Long time customer of this restaurant. Called up Friday and got a reservation for 7:30 Saturday night for inside (I was asked if I wanted inside or outside while making the reservation). We arrive, I called to see if our table was ready. The young woman on the phone said yes, I have you outside meet you out there and hung up before I could even get a word in. She comes outside and I told her politely when I called for the table friday the woman on the phone confirmed it was inside. She said hold on and ran inside. She came back out and said ok we can take you in side, move your car. Apparently the first three parking spots are for curb side pick up, but only two of them are labeled that way, we were In The third spot mind you. We moved our car, came inside to see that the moved a table right in front of the front door. I said this table is never here and we can't sit in front of the front door. Lisa jumped on the attack and was very hostile. I explained my husband is a big guy and we would keep getting knocked in too. My husband asked to speak to a Manager and Lisa said there is no manager. My husband asked for the owner and she said they aren't here. We then told them we were leaving and my husband told Lisa she had an attitude ever since we pulled up. We walked outside and she followed us, exclaiming I have an attitude?! Yes, Lisa you have a major attitude and perhaps hospitality is NOT your forte. I've had food from here twice and both times were pretty good. The salads were a little pricey considering the small portion sizes and the Cobb salad I had was OK but nowhere near as good as Perabell's Cobb salad for example. I like the craft beer aspect to it and think It would be nice if they had a little bar area inside or outside to just have a drink at. Overall I would recommend it and will continue to go. read more

The restaurant is tiny so I would suggest making a reservation. The bread wasn't very good and the butter tasted like it had been in the freezer way too long. My entrée was pretty good. The food isn't bad, it's getting to the food. The wait staff is either swamped or very slow but they apologize for neither. I've been here twice, this time I ordered a burger well done. It wasn't so I asked them to cook it more when it came back it was medium well and I told the waiter that I give up. We sat for 15 minutes before we heard the specials and had a chance to order. My wife and I went to South Ocean Grill for the first time yesterday. It was amazing. We came for lunch, sat outside and ordered a number of dishes. Flatbread pizza, burger and fries, flavored corn on the cob, soft shell crab sandwich and some ice cold wine and beer. Really, really good. Topped off by excellent key lime pie. My husband and I were newcomers to this gem of a restaurant last night. Off typical Main Street in Patchogue but worth the mile drive. The atmosphere is warm and intimate. The owner and staff are friendly and attentive. We started with two different flatbread appetizers. Delicious!! Burgers to follow. Perfectly executed with homemade buns. The kale salad?? OMG!! I had dinner here with my family last weekend and I'm looking forward to coming back. We ordered three appetizers and I thought two of the three were dynamite. The corn on the cob and steak flat bread apps didn't disappoint. The white bean dip wasn't warm enough and was bland. My Cajun chicken sandwich was great and I would definitely get it again. They don't have a kids menu but offered to make any of the typical kids staples. The kids meals were just as big as the adult meals and will most likely mean you'll be taking home a doggy bag with tomorrow's lunch in it. There was lots of outdoor seating but it was too cold to take advantage of it. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. While some may say the food here is good the customer service you're paying for is beyond horrible. I've worked in the service industry for about 10 years (serving & bartending) and I'd never treat customers the way they treated myself and my group. So we made a reservation 2 weeks in advance for a party of 16 because a friend had been a few times and said how good it was. Due to such a large party they said we had to be there early (5:15 pm) as you could imagine with 16 people that would never happen. All were there however by 5:30. Earlier in the day on the night of the reservation the owner called and said that we must be prompt as there would be another party right after us at 7:30. I think 15 minutes by the time everyone was there is not a big deal. Food was ordered by 5:40. We ordered many apps and entrees with a total bill of roughly $1200 of course gratuity was included. At 7:32 the owner came to the table and said "you know how I called earlier and discussed the reservation behind you at 7:30? Well its 7:30 and we need the tables and dropped the check" Now some of the next party had arrived but not all of them yet. Frustrated at how the check was dropped without being offered dessert I felt was wrong especially being there for a birthday party. I walked up to the waitress and said "i'm sorry but are we not allowed to order dessert" the waitress replied "We told you we needed the table by 7:30" so I asked for a manager. Well better yet I got the owner. Her words were "I called earlier to explain there would be a party after you and that you had to be out by 7:30" I said "Miss, I understand but its 7:32 and we have a few people that wanted dessert however all are willing to let it go except we have a pregnant woman craving your cookie sunday, do you think while you are running credit cards we could get one for her quick" she told us no and that "the restaurant only could seat 30 persons and that she needs to turn the tables over" mind you we just paid the restaurant roughly $1000 for food and drinks with a mandatory $200 tip to the waitress who wasn't very observant to empty drinks on the table. Now working in the industry I ordered a med. rare strip steak that came out more towards well, very very little pink inside. To not be a pain or the only one eating alone at the end of dinner I did not send it back, however had I we would have potentially been there until 7:45 at the earliest. I've never been pushed out of a restaurant especially as a good group with a high bill so FAST. I know if I was the second party and the owner said "I'm sorry for the wait it'll just be a few minutes as this table is just finishing up dessert" I would have had no problem. I would have went to the bar and had a drink while I waited. Now coming from the service industry if the next party was upset I would have offered to pay for the round of drinks while they waited with no problem knowing that I just made $1000 on the last party and likely to make around that much again on the next. The owner was VERY RUDE and VERY UNWILLING to compromise. In my opinion she has no idea how to run her business. If a restaurant that seats 30 can't handle a party of 16 then simply say that when calling for a reservation, or tell the next party that there is no availability until 8:00. You should know your restaurant and you should know how long it takes to serve (x) amount of people. I know I will NEVER GO BACK nor will anyone of the other 15 people who were with me, and to South Ocean Grill you better believe I will pass that word along to anyone I talk to, as well as the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshall's for over occupancy inside your small restaurant. read more

Went there for the 1st time and the food was fantastic. We had the corn appetizer and a flatbread pizza for an appetizer. I enjoyed them both. Then I had a the branzino with kale salad, it was out of this world. For dessert the key lime pie was a bigger winner and there was a cookie dessert that was out of this world read more

Tried this place sometime around August I believe..... Will never go back again! Walked in around 4:30.... On a Sunday afternoon... Hostess asked if we had reservations and we didn't... I would understand if it was a Saturday night. She said sorry we don't have an indoor table because she expected people with reservations would be in shortly. She offered one of their outdoor tables... And we took it. In the meantime I didn't see any of the indoor tables filling up. They sat us outside on this tiny table (supposed to be for two) with no umbrella... (All the other tables had umbrellas) and I roasted in the sun. Food was ok but I found this whole seating situation to be very rude! Will not be going back here! There are too many restaurants around that treat their customers with respect! read more

The waitress was super nice and had a smile on her face the entire time, the wife who owns it helped her and came outside which I love! Went on a sat night. Atmosphere was great. Was able to get a seat outside. Prices were just way too high. My husband and son got a chicken dish with arugula and peppers. Chicken dried out and dish was well over 20 dollars. Sauce was flavorful but didn't make up for price an lack of food. I got the scallop dish. At 26 dollars expected more than 3 over salted scallops and tiny flavorless shrimp. Waitress was great and so were drinks but sadly didn't make up for overpriced average food. read more

We chose this restaurant because it was approximately halfway for us to meet friends. It turned out to be a wonderful experience. As vegetarians, going out to dinner is often a chore with few menu options which are anything special. In this case, The menu had many options for our fish and meat-eating friends. For us, there were many interesting options. We ordered the vegetable plate and it was a beautiful combination of roasted artichoke, quinoa salad, corn, kale slaw. Wonderful flavors and beautifully presented. We also shared one of their homemade veggie burgers and it was delicious. (Truthfully, we were both a little put off by the fact that the veggie burger had an appearance and texture similar to rare hamburger. I suspect someone thought this would be an asset but as a vegetarian, I'm not looking for a meat look-alike.). However, it did not prevent us from enjoying the burger over all. Went here today, Mother's Day, without a reservation because I had passed it a couple times heading to the dock. Figured we would take a shot. It was my wife, oldest son, and youngest, handicapped son. Jackie was fantastic when we asked if we could be seated. She said (at (2:40 when asked) that she thought a table (a 4-top) would be clear by 3:00pm but she didn't want to rush us because there was a reservation for 4:00pm. 3:00pm came and we indeed were seated AND Jackie told us she was able to move the 4pm to 4:30pm so we wouldn't have to rush. Alejandra (not sure of the spelling) gave us fabulous and expedient service. The food, after all that, was still the star! From the app.: Mushroom and Goat cheese flatbread, to the Pan-seared Scallops and Rock Shrimp accompanied by a great risotto perfectly prepared and seasoned. My wife, who doesn't compliment easily enjoyed her burger with avocado and other items. Oh, we had to order our Key-lime pie to go, we were full. 5 stars all the way. Found this restaurant on Yelp. What a find!! There was not one dish we were disappointed in. Mexican corn a must. Kale salad fabulous. Steaks excellent quality, well cooked. All the side dishes were terrific. Best Sangria I ever had. Every dish had something unique about it. Right down to the French fries. Of all the many dining choices in Patchogue, South Ocean Grill is by far the best place in town. The salad with scallops is my absolute favorite. The flatbreads are delicious. Came here for my birthday this past Thursday. Not a great experience. The staff was friendly and the waitress was nice. It took a while for her to take our order. Also, it was FREEZING in the restaurant. If you can't keep it warm enough for your customers to not have to wear a coat or sit there shivering, you shouldn't be open. I ordered the gold coast salad which comes with scallops. They tasted slightly undercooked and I felt nauseous after eating them. My husband ordered the Louisiana cajun chicken sandwich. He said the chicken was like rubber and the sandwich was basically inedible (like the chicken had been frozen and reheated?). He did say the bun and everything else was ok. My daughter (3 yo) had grilled chicken and french fries which were both pretty good. The waitress did take the chicken sandwich off the bill. Anyways not the best experience for my birthday dinner :( Definitely will not return. read more

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner last night at South Ocean Grill at the bar. Mexican corn, scallops/shrimp risotto and T-bone steak were absolutely excellent. Discovered this place a few months ago & it is one of my favorite restaurants. Patchogue's best kept secret. The food is very high quality, meticulously prepared, & delicious. The owners are so nice & friendly. My favorite meal so far is the grilled fish sandwich. The bun is home made & that makes such a difference in taste. I love paring it with their delicious kale salad instead of fries (although the fries are delicious too!) for a healthier meal. I could eat their kale salad everyday. It is SO good! I took a friend there who did not like kale until she tried their kale salad! Now she's a convert! And when I'm not being quite so health conscious, their creme brûlée cheesecake is simply divine. Oh, and their salted caramel cake is delicious too. My son likes their turkey burgers. Honestly, I don't think I could ever get a bad meal here no matter what I ordered. The ambience is spot on too. Returned, yet again, for a really wonderful dinner. Flatbread with mushrooms, delicious salmon and chicken dishes, great service BUT was simply discusted by the ant infestation. One crawling on the menu-thought it could have come through the open front door but the three crawling out of the sugar "bowl" simply ruined the meal and caused us to leave without coffee or dessert.
