OK, so I do not give many 5 star reviews, but listen up and hear me now! This little beer store in Bowling Green, OH has the best Lebanese/Greek/Middle Eastern food on the planet. From 1974 to 1979 I attended BGSU (yes, that included Grad school so give me no grief). This shop was my beer store of choice back then. Would ride my bike from campus to...at the time... the edge of town, for a cheap 6 of Miller Genuine Draught and some eats. My first off campus apt was just east of SS6 on Napoleon Rd and I continued my shorter bike rides/beer runs. In '80 an actual job took me and my new bride to THE INDY city. Over the next 30 some-odd years our growing family drove from the "Racing Capital of the World" to parts of "The North Coast" through BG country and many times we stopped here for a long distance "beer run/snack stop", all the while keeping it, what we thought, a best kept secret! Alright. I've ordered carry out from here multiple times and it's been wonderful each time. My favorite things to order are the lamb gyro meal and the large chili cheese fries. First, portion sizes are big! As a big guy, I could finish the gyro meal but I'd feel VERY full. The large chili cheese fries are everything I want in chili cheese fries. Finally got the chance to try their food after 2 years of passing by! Our son attends BGSU and every time we visit from Michigan I plan on stopping but never got the chance. So glad I did today. I ordered beef kabob platter, thinking it was a small platter for 1 person - WHOA, this will feed 3 adults. My husband got 6 Grape leaves, wow it was good. It's probably too well known to be considered a hidden gem in Bowling Green, but South Side 6 qualifies as one of the most unexpected surprises in the small college town. My experience began while working the Thursday night shift at Campus Pollyeyes; the other employees would always get excited about their gyro deal which is currently 2 for $9.99. As it turned out, my coworkers were 100% justified in their level of excitement for the SS6 gyro. It's not only a massive portion for the price, but also one of the best made gyros I've ever eaten. The meat is cooked to perfection and I remember the mouthwatering smell of it being slow roasted every time I stepped in the store. Aside from their staple menu item, they also have one of the better selections of beer and liquor in town, so if you're looking for something aside from the standard light beers, this is the place to go. Their burger deal on Wednesday's is also something to try out, another gigantic portion served with a pile of deliciously seasoned fries (probably the best in town). On top of all the incredible food and drink they have to offer, the guys who run the place are some of the friendliest folks around as well, nor can I remember a time when their service was slow. On my second visit I was amazed that So (The owner) remembered my name, on that visit he introduced me to his wife Amal and its been nothing but positive since. When I walk in now, I feel welcomed like family by all their employees. Not only is the food amazing but they're one of the very few establishments that deliver to my rural home north of town. Now the best part, the food. I'm sure I'm not alone with those that started with the gyros, both the beef and chicken are excellent not to mention huge. By far the best in the area! Their hummus and pita chips are truly addicting as well. I have been looking for a local place that serves fish and chips, no longer, SS6 has that covered also. Two huge fillets and a generous portion of fries always hits the spot. On a diet? No problem, you can substitute rice instead of fries in any meal. Their Route 25 Burger, with two six ounce patties is juicy and delicious, by far the best bang for the buck burger in town. Every day, and every month, they have a special. This month the sandwich special is grilled chicken, it's one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It's important to point out there's no seating, just the best carryout and delivery in the entire area. I have gone to school at BG for 3 years now, and I can't believe it took this long to discover South Side 6. That sauce is unbelievable. From reading the other reviews, it must be that cucumber sauce. Fresh onions and tomatoes. The meat was so flavorful and moist. I just want to scream from the top of a mountain !! Also, I loved that when I ordered, the guy turned around and said to the gyro-maker "Make it a good one." And it was! Outstanding Lebanese food! This tiny little carryout is a hidden gem in Bowling Green. Great food, huge potions and outstanding service. They also have amazing burgers, chili dogs, great wings and other American dishes. Tomorrow also happens to be my birthday and I mentioned it to them and then they gave me all this free food (pita chips, baklava, fries PLUS the actual hummus). Totally unexpected! Traveled from Toledo to Bowling Green to take and feed my mom who is battling stage 4B Uterine Cancer with Mestosis and hasn't had a Gyro in over a year due to Chemo taking her taste buds away, I was looking forward to having her eat one. She saw the deal advertised on TV yesterday 2 Gyros for $13.99 and as they have on their Menu, I went in and ordered 6 Gyros. The man said they were $17.99 for 2. I went back to the car and my mom informed me that they are supposed to be 2 for $13.99 so I went back in and asked the man about the deal they had advertised on TV and on their Menu, a woman interrupted and said, "No, they're $17.99 for 2 now!" After asking my mom if she still wanted them, she told me thats not what they advertised as, I went back in and asked the gentlemen if they could honor the price they had advertised and that we traveled there from Toledo to get them, the woman (with Sharpie Black looking eyebrows) interrupted again and said, "No!, the price went up today!" I love South Side! It is, in my opinion, one of the best local places in Bowling Green. In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find better food anywhere around. Yes, it is a convenience store (and a good one at that! Check out the amazing beer selection) but don't let that stop you from trying out the world class food. Just about everything is fresh and homemade by the owner and his family. You really can't go wrong no matter what you try, whether it be the chicken shwarma, the gigantic gyros, homemade hummus and pita chips, or fresh grape leaves. I guarantee that once you try south side hummus you'll never want to buy it at the grocery store again. If you don't consider yourself an "adventurous" eater, there's plenty for you, too! Forget McDonald's--the burgers are the best in town, the fries are to die for, and you won't find a better deal on wings anywhere. Trying to eat healthy? Try one of the salads. My personal favorite is the fatoush, but like i said, you really can't go wrong. South Side always has daily and monthly specials, so you certainly won't have to break the bank on your mission to try all the wonderful food. I think if your afraid to try the food because it is a liquor store then you shouldn't rate the establishment a 1 * place unless you had a bad bottle of beer. Maybe you were afraid to try the beer as well. At any rate the gyros at SS6 are great! The meat is fresh. You can watch them make the gyro from the counter. The hummus is among the best I have had. Ridiculous amount of food (not that I care about the quantity). Lamb Gyro - 5 stars probably the best gyro I've ever had. So fresh, excellently spiced, perfectly cooked meat. Kafta platter - 5 stars again, excellent. Amazing flavors, insane rice complete with almonds and caramelized onions, hummus was off the hook, salad was great. I'm usually on an expense account when I travel to this area, so I can choose either a $40 steak or a $10 gyro from South Side 6. I usually choose South Side 6 - it's that good! A couple of notes: A gyro takes about 15 minutes. A mixed grill platter takes about 30-45 minutes, so call ahead. It's worth the wait. read more

We stumbled across this place a few years ago while in town visiting family. The owners were super nice and even gave me a free taste of hummus. When we got to our gma's and told everyone about our experience we ended up ordering lunch from there. No it's a tradition whenever we visit. It never disappoints and the owners are super friendly!
