I'd give 0 if I could. 3 weeks in a row we tried to eat here and 3 weeks in a row they were not open at stated time. We even called to verify their hours. Made 3 trips from out of town, basically 24 miles each time to wind up at other establishments. 3 strikes and you're out. read more

What a let down. After reading through all the glowing reviews I was excited to finally try some good Chinese food in bowling green. Ordering was a slight pain in the ass because the menu was hard to fine but I found some pics of it here on Yelp. You call to place your order and it's cash only. We picked up our food and I was excited because the food felt piping hot in the bag and I was certain it was gonna be a home run. I was lied to. We were all lied. The food had no flavor, no spicy kick, not even enough salt. The lo mein noodles were pretty much just regular ole linguine noodles and way overboiled so the mouthfeel was unpleasantly squishy and slimy. The curry we ordered smelled good but flavor wasn't there. Was pretty much a container of onions, gravy, and a little bit of chicken. With the leftovers I tried to doctor everything with my own fish sauce and oyster sauce and seasoning to try and salvage what I could. But you can only do so much when the cooks don't add any garlic or ginger to the food when they cook it or. I was hoping against hope that this place would be a a step up from Bamboo Garden (another sad experience) but sadly it was a step down. read more

The cheapest and nicest lunch you'll find in Bowling Green, Ohio. This is the type of place where you can become a regular, and order "the usual". The owner couple are very kind and are always pleasant to talk to and share a few stories with. They are the only workers and chefs in the establishment, so don't expect service to be rapid and fully attentive to only you. Regardless of it only being two workers for their small restaurant, she manages to serve, talk, pour, and joke around very well. My family is on first name basis with them, and we hug and laugh whenever we visit. The plates are a fair size for one person. I wouldn't say to share with others unless specifically noted, but the lunch will fill you up for a very cheap price. I think it's between 11:00-15:00, lunch is less then $5, and it'll come with a spring roll and a soup as well. The place is usually busier during the lunch specials. Drinks are in the can for soda (no refills), and there are also some fruit mixes, and hot tea. There is a variety of dish choices, but it'll most likely be what you are already imagining in your mind. Seating is limited, as it is a small location with not too many tables. The lighting is very dark with a red overtone. So don't expect to be the most comfortable or lavish, but it's thrives on its simplicity. A simple Chinese restaurant with arguably the best prices in town. Even outside if the lunch time, prices are still very affordable. For $20 you could probably have a feast here, and a much healthier one compared to fast food. read more

A group of coworkers and I wanted Chinese for lunch, so we walked to China Village, which is my hands-down favourite Chinese restaurant in north-west Ohio. Literally a 'mom and pop restaurant,' Sharon (the mom) is greeter/server/busser/cashier while Shin (the pop) is food prep/chef/dish washer. Specializing in authentic, everyday Chinese cuisine, China Village reminds me so much of traditional Chinese eateries, that when enjoying a meal there, you could easily believe you have been transported to a restaurant in the hutongs of Beijing or Xi'an! Since the menus are totally different for lunch and dinner, this review will solely cover the lunch service. As others have noted, the daily lunch special at China Village is easily the best deal in the county! For the low, low price of $3.50, you get an ample portion of the daily special entrée (my favourite is the sweet and sour pork on Wednesday), a heaping side of fried rice, a lunch-sized egg roll, a cup of soup (your choice of wonton, egg drop, or hot and sour), and a pot of oolong tea. Our party of ten arrived shortly after noon, and was congenially greeted by Sharon in short order. Completely unperturbed by the size of our party, she quickly rearranged several tables in order to accommodate our group. Sharon then took everyone's drink orders (I ordered "cha" or tea) while we looked over the menus. Returning with our beverages of choice, Sharon then worked her way back around the table taking everyone's meal orders. Being Wednesday, I naturally ordered "tang su pai goo" (sweet and sour pork) with a cup of "suan la tong" (hot and sour soup). Décor in the restaurant is very Chinese, but without the ubiquitous tourist site photos (Great Wall, Yangtze River, Temple of Heaven, etc.) that you see at every other Chinese establishment. Instead the walls are adorned with bamboo paintings as well as exquisite woodcuts both small and massive. Additionally the front and back halves of the dining room are separated by a bamboo wall, complete with windows festooned with traditional red and gold lanterns symbolizing wealth, fame, and prosperity. Even the cashier stand is enclosed in its own miniature bamboo hut, with a laughing Buddha statue on the counter, whose belly my kids love to rub for good luck. Despite the large size of our group, it did not take a super long time to receive our food, as Sharon brought out our soup course just a few minutes after taking all of our orders. My hot and sour soup was served piping hot, and had a very good flavour with just the right balance between spicy and sour. Some minutes later, our lunch entrees began arriving. The generous portion of fried rice was very good while the egg roll was pretty standard. However the star of my lunch was the sweet and sour pork, where the meat was perfectly deep fried (and not over cooked like what seems to happen elsewhere) and the copious vegetables were tender-crisp. One of the things I love most about China Village is how traditional and authentic the food is, and the plentiful slices of carrot, onion, and green pepper in the dish did not disappoint! Tying it all together was a classic sweet and sour sauce, which while tasty in and of itself, brought the entire package together to form one harmonious, delicious dish. For a unique atmosphere with great tasting food at an unbeatable price, I rate China Village as being Excellent, and cannot wait to go back! read more

My girlfriend and I ate dinner here on a Saturday, and it was a good experience! The hostess (Sharron presumably, based on other reviews) was friendly, and the only employee we ever saw in this tiny, dimly-lit, intimate restaurant. For most of our visit we were the only customers, and inoffensive soft rock played at an acceptable volume, though that was a bit at odds with the charming Chinese decor. The decor seemed far from the usual catalog-items you see at a lot of restaurants as well, which was a nice change. The menus had significant portions crossed out, unavailable for ordering, but there was still a good variety. We ordered hot and sour soup, egg drop soup, an eggroll, orange chicken, and vegetable fried rice between us. I think they must be a different school of Chinese cuisine, or perhaps just more authentic than typical Americanized Chinese food, because it was very different from what I'm used to getting at Chinese restaurants. The soups were both a bit peppery (not spicy, ground peppercorn-wise) and the hot and sour soup emphasized the sour, whereas every other place I've been to emphasized the hot. The orange chicken was not nearly as sweet as I'm used to, but was salty instead, in a soy-sauce based sauce, but served with actual (thinly-sliced) orange wedges instead of orange peel. Scraping the orange flesh into the rest of my meal added back some of the sweetness I'd been missing. The pieces of chicken were also much smaller than I was used to. The dish was still delicious, but didn't match my expectations. The vegetable fried rice had water chestnuts, and was perfectly seasoned (just enough salt or MSG or whatever.) The eggroll was smaller than I was used to, and may very well have been made in-house instead of pulled from a freezer and fried. It was extremely crunchy, which was rather nice, and smelled divine, but the flavor was a disappointment. Your mileage may vary. We'll definitely be back. I'll have to explore more of the menu to see what else they do differently. read more

Sharron and her husband (name unknown) make a delicious lunch--$3.75 for the princess chicken (my recommendation). You get the main dish, vegetable fried rice, and egg roll, and soup. The soup isn't to my liking, but it is nice on a cold day. All in all, a great place to eat--and a real hidden gem in Bowling Green, OH. I had the Sweet and Sour Shrimp it was delicious most definitely will be back very reasonable price can't beat it, they have fantastic Lunch specials will have to try it for lunch soon.
