This restaurant is a gem! We've been passing by this restaurant for years and had been curious as they serve both Chinese and Filipino food. We were really more interested in the Filipino food, as there aren't many options in Sacramento. My husband says that the Filipino food has a Chinese influence here. It's definitely a more hole-in-the-wall place. We came at around lunch time and were warmly greeted by two ladies. A couple of other parties came in after us. We ordered 4 dishes to share, and they came out pretty fast! 1) Pinakbet - probably my favorite dish. It's a simpler dish with vegetables including eggplant, bitter melon, okra, tomato, kabocha, pork. I liked that the bitter Leon had a but of a wok char flavor. The eggplant had a bit of an oil taste but I'm aware that restaurants will fry the eggplant and then stir fry it into the fish to maintain the color...I actually liked that oil taste haha. 2) Kare Kare - it's a peanut butter stew with vegetables including eggplant, bokchoy, green beans, and oxtail. The oxtail is so tender. They also provide a shrimp paste and that adds some salt and pungent flavor. 3) Pancit palabok - as you'd expect with the addition of tofu. I wished they had more chicharron on there for texture 4) Bopis - diced pig ear with some jalapeños and peppers. This was seasoned so well and goes well when mixed with rice. We ordered rice to go along with the dishes. There was sooooo much food leftover. Great value! I am totally looking forward to the next time I get to go here!

I attended an event where the main course was a lechon from South Villa. I had only see whole pig at a luau so I was excited. I watched in awe as a friend prepared the pork to be eaten. I had a piece with some crunchy skin but the real star of the dish was the sauce. I'm not sure what's it's called but I could take a bath in it! I'm sure it's not tamarind but somewhat reminded me of tamarind. Finally experienced lechon, thank you South Villa!

Haven't been here in years so it was almost like a brand new experience! This is a good spot for both Filipino and Chinese cuisine if you just can't decide between the two. It's best enjoyed family style so you can try lots of dishes. The food came out quickly and relatively around the same time so we could enjoy everything while it was hot. Some of my favorites were the beef kare kare, fried chicken (so crispy similar to tempura batter!), and the Hong Kong style chow mein. The Shanghai lumpia was nicely made as well. I was most excited for the sizzling sisig but it was actually my least favorite. It was not diced into tiny pieces like a traditional sisig and actually tasted more like caldereta than sisig. I do wish they had some Filipino drinks like mango or calamansi juice but all they had were bottled sodas and teas. Overall it was a satisfying meal but nothing too memorable. But considering the Filipino sit-down restaurant options are very limited, this is your best shot if you want something more than just the food court inside of Seafood City!

Ambiance is okay, old restaurant. So so playing old Tagalog music in a background. 2/5 Service 4/5 since they are attentive and nice there. Food was not good at all, for dine in, singang Bangus was nasty no flavor no fat belly. It was no flavor, the pork belly was so dry like super dry it looks like it was made a week ago and reheated it. 0/5 Would not go back after this experience. The food was too nasty and almost throw up. Really want to like this place but this is 3rd time and same as always.

A foodie friend recommended this spot, and after a decent takeout experience with their chicken chow mein and binagoong fried rice, we decided to dine in. The restaurant has a charming 'mom and pop' feel with a mix of Filipino and Chinese decor. Service is subpar, but I didn't mind much as I've grown up with that style of service in Asian restaurants. We ordered the beef chow mein, garlic fried rice, kare-kare, and 'explosive beef.' Everything was delicious, though the explosive beef was a letdown--it wasn't spicy at all despite the menu marking. My husband even mentioned it tasted more like tocino; perhaps the chef forgot the spice! The chow mein had a great wok hei, and the garlic fried rice tasted just like a home-cooked meal. The kare-kare had a perfect, rich peanut flavor, though the homemade-tasting bagoong was a bit 'meh' for me. My only minor gripe was the small water cups; as someone who drinks a lot of water, I wish they had checked on us more for refills. We'll definitely return for the food, even if the service is an afterthought.

South Villa restaurant is a place my family uses to cater our big events. Whether it be birthdays, parties, or other celebrations, it delivers great food and great quality for a great price. Service inside is pretty good, they don't offer a whole lot of indoor seating due to COVID impact, but they still deliver great quality food and service nonetheless. I definitely recommend getting this place when you have big events, just take a look at those photos, the chicken is crispy outside, and soft on the inside.

Absolutely wonderful they were so accommodating and very prompt with our needs, the ambiance is perfect and the guests are happy that we done it there. It was my Mom's 85th bday and South villa was the perfect place to celebrate my Mom's bday. The food was delicious and cook just about right. Close to perfection.

You know when you crave something but you don't wanna make it cuz it takes soo much time? And also you want it now?!!! There is not a lot of Filipino restaurants here in Sac like the bay. Womp womp... We have been in Sac for a minute and have always been searching for a good Pinoy spot. honestly, there is not a lot but we found South Villa and we are happy. Came here literally 1 minute after they open and you can tell this place gets a LOT of party pick up orders. We ordered Kare Kare- BOMB! Laing, amazing!!! Lechon kawali was not the best. It was chewy and was thinly sliced already. I'm used to the thick and crunchy, juicy goodness. i think it was air fried but needed a little more time. Ambiance is typical Chinese/filipino restaurant with a touch of aloha. Would love to try this place again. Masarap! I was legit happy and satisfied my craving!!

3.5 stars. The workers are amazing and the customer service is very good. I think most of the food that I've had has been mid. The stand out dishes that I've tried are the lechon, crispy pata, chicharron bulalak and fried chicken. I think the Filipino dishes are definitely better than the Chinese ones. I've gotten the lunch plates a few times and it was pretty disappointing. The portion and price is great but I didn't prefer the flavor.

Ask the Community - South Villa Restaurant

Does anybody know if this place is still open? I tried to call but nobody answered, their website is non-operational, so I'm not sure if this place is still open.

Still open. Just went yesterday. It's take out only so it is advised to call in and order. If no one answer it's probably because they are super busy. While waiting for our food we ordered, many customers drove up to pickup their orders

Does the buffet still get offered on Sunday mornings?

Is this place even open? How can a business be open and the phone number does not work?

I tried calling tonight , no answer. I sure hope there still open. There fried chicken is the best around.

Are they open for dine in yet?

As of 10/24/2021- They are not doing dine-in

IDK how I went for so long without being obsessed with honey walnut shrimp. the green beans were delicious. even getting them takeout, they remained crispy. They were also well seasoned. It was a chilly garlic rather than just garlic, which I liked. normally I feel like garlic green beans are under seasoned, but these ones were well done, flavoring wise. The orange chicken was really good. It actually tasted like purposeful seasoning rather than just relying on the orange to carry it. I wish it was crispier, but it probably would've been had I ordered it in restaurant. I wish the chicken pieces were smaller, but that's my personal preference. The chicken was really good quality/ cuts of meat. No fat or weird textured pieces.

We decided to try a little bit of everything and here is what we ordered: hot and sour soup, potstickers, spicy cucumbers, BBQ pork, BBQ pork fried rice, Mongolian beef, and honey walnut shrimp. The food came out fast and piping hot. Pretty soon our entire table was covered with dishes. We started with the hot and sour soup, which we both felt was lacking in the flavor department. It didn't have that spicy tang that you look for when you order hot and sour soup. The potstickers were fried crispy, but the dough was a little too thick. The spicy cucumbers had no flavor to them at all. And the honey walnut shrimp was not memorable. We both felt that the two best dishes were the BBQ pork fried rice and the Mongolian beef. The beef was tender and had good flavor. The prices were extremely fair and the portions were large, but all in all this was not my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area.
