I truly wanted to give at least 4 stars, but I had to be honest. The food was good, but it was very Americanized if that makes sense. The wings were great, but the cultural Thai, and Vietnamese food was lacking. But again they are pleasing their audience which is typically a blue collar white American crowd, the Thai Tea, was horrible and that's me being nice. My wife is Cambodian from Ankor and she was very displeased with the Tea, and stated the food was good, but you can tell it's adjusted to the community. This small spot is a shining example of how Southeast asian cuisine can be executed with love and skill. My fiancee and I had crispy spring rolls and grilled shrimp for an appetizer. The rolls we're perfectly seasoned with bean sprouts and juicy pork. The shrimp were coated in some sort of heavenly marinade, then chargrilled in a way that had those perfectly crisp grilled edges and the most tender meat, at the same time. For our entrees she had the curry salmon, which she loved. I had lemongrass beef with rice vermicelli. The beef had lightly sauteed onions in a, perfectly savory, coconut milk based sauce. Every dish showed the care that is missing from so many of the bigger restaurants. The kitchen crew at Southeast Kitchen is proud of the food they serve and it shows. I have one con and it's just a personal preference. I would liked to have had the sauces on our entrees thicker. They were too thin/soupy for my liking. Southeast Kitchen is absolutely a hidden gem. The quality of their food is on par with Thai restaurants in major cities. We have nearly worked our way through the entire menu and find all dishes flavorful and well prepared. Great thing is they ask how spicy you would like your dish. I was in town for work and was getting the craving for some good Asian food. I did a quick search and was able to find this place as one of the higher rated joints around. I made my way over on a rainy afternoon to grab an early lunch. The joint itself is not very big nor was it overcrowded despite being near lunch time. Parking around the area can definitely be tricky so something to consider if you are trying to make your way over especially since there are other business around that would also compete with the parking space. The floor plan is open with tables on both sides of the room heading straight to the kitchen. The owner was in the joint that day and he was very friendly throughout the process while giving me recommendations on what to order. I was actually going to order a few of the rolls for an appetizer but he recommended the dumplings by stating they were handmade and fresh. I decided to go with the dumplings and a Beef Salad served with the vinaigrette chili sauce. I ordered everything to go and was able to bring it back to continue working. The salad was good and standard with fresh veggies cut up and the beef was char grilled well and with good flavor. The vinaigrette sauce was good for me but I could see the flavor complex being difficult for some people as it was very strong in the way it layered in flavors. The dumplings were in fact good and you could tell it was homemade. The soy sauce was also good and I recommend the steam as it cooked well and made me feel healthy as well haha. All in all, a good spot in Delaware and definitely appreciated the owner's friendliness and recommendations. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I have been following this restaurant for many years now and every time I order, my expectations for the food always exceed. To the customer service, food quality, quantity and taste, I have never seen better. The menu has a wide variety of food. Personally, my favorite dish is the Pad Thai. It is full of flavor, ambrosial, savory yet the hint of lime enhances the flavor. I highly recommend the scrumptious dish for new consumers. The quantity of the food is filling, yet having enough for leftovers for lunch the next day. Visually, the food is mouthwatering and is the equivalent of how i perceive heaven. My wife has grown tired of Pho Cali, our usual go-to for Vietnamese cuisine. So we haven't eaten Vietnamese food in a DE for a while. While Philly has a plethora of options, there are only a few in the First State. My co-worker lives near Southeast Kitchen, and he recommended we go there one day. I'd heard about it some time ago, but I'm rarely in this part of the city. We ordered takeout from their menu on the Internet (they don't have takeout menus). When we got there, parking was a little sparse. It's street parking, so you may have a tough time finding a spot during the day. Entering into the restaurant, you'll notice it's very clean and well organized. There's not a lot of tables, so takeout may be a better option. The food is very good. They make their spring rolls with rice paper, which I prefer over egg. I do prefer Pho Cali's bun a little more as they use a thicker noodle. But taste-wise it's comparable. Since my first visit, I've been back a half dozen times. I'd recommend the Drunken Noodles, spring rolls, and bun. read more

The place is not very big , nor is congested. They have around 6-10 tables and an almost open kitchen. The restaurant is quite tidy with big TV screens displaying some amazing food. The servers and hosts are professional and courteous. The food is really good. We ordered - Chicken Green curry - We asked for level 4 spicy and it was really hott and spicy. The ingredient of the curry tasted fresh and was just awesome.I would give 4.85/5 Drunken noodles- Agin level 4 spicy, which was bit too much for noodles , but did not taste bad.Would give it 4.7/5 Just be wary about the spice level. Okay i know this is long. I'm sorry. I just want to be thorough. And so I only write reviews when I'm super impressed with service and every once in a blue moon when I am completely APPALLED by the experience. Unfortunately, my first experience at this restaurant was the latter. And I honestly don't think I will be able to entirely express how dissatisfied I was with this experience. So I have had Southeast Kitchen food before as takeout & it was wonderful. Quality and portion wise, I had 0 complaints. And I'm aware of friends of mine with diet restrictions/allergies who speak highly about the owner and the quality of the food! HOWEVER, no one usually sits in to get the full experience. My friend came all the way down from New York today to spend time with me and another friend of ours... and the treatment that we got from the servers THE ENTIRE TIME was SO uncomfortable and unacceptable. I ordered the Thai Papaya salad. And my first concern when they brought it out was that it looked like maybe an appetizer or snack. It was literally 2 pieces of lettuce, with slaw & crushed peanuts on top of it, sitting in papaya juice. No exaggeration. I wish I took a picture because it was literally laughable. This 2 pieces of lettuce was a total of $10. So I try to call the server back to our table, he's conversing with his coworkers with a chicken wing in his hand. He sees me trying to get his attention, puts the wing down and comes to us. I asked the server if this was the $10 salad on the menu and he confirmed that it was, I said "Umm... I'm not paying $10 for this. (At this point he just immediately walked away and started talking to the hostess who just rolled her eyes and shook her head in disappointment at whatever he told her about me)... he stood around talking and didn't come back to the table until I made eye contact with him to ask "May I get something different?" (looking back i should have just asked for something different and left it there). He said "you mean like not eat that? no i don't think so because we already made it". My friend said "people don't send food back?" and he said "no we don't wanna waste it" So I said nothing in disbelief. He walked away and a minute later came back and without announcing took my plate and said "you can send it back"... That had already put a sour taste in my mouth. I ordered for the pad Thai instead. I asked what was in it and if there was any dairy or anything in it (I don't eat animal products and assumed that wouldn't be an issue with the raving reviews from my vegan/vegetarian friends). So I modified it to what I thought would be vegan. Lol it was brought out with egg in it. So my friend kindly asked to send it back for me because at this point I didn't want to get anything at all. I just felt like a bother, from the attitude of the server and no one there seemed to want to serve us. I honestly didn't want to order anything else. But the meal came out. I thanked them for the trouble and ate even though I wasn't hungry by this point. The entire time the server and his coworkers were all standing at the check out, staring at us and talking until we were finished our meals. As soon as I pull my card out of my wallet, the hostess comes over with the iPad and says nothing. She just stands there with iPad in hand until me and my friends all noticed, stopped talking, and she said "I'm sorry i just saw you pull out your card". And so without allowing us to see the receipt (there was a lot of changes and trouble and i understand that can be confusing and time consuming so I'd like to know that we are on the same page and that I'm not overpaying for a service I wasn't even satisfied with) OR asking if we were actually ready to pay, she attempted to take my card (and honestly i was so ready to go so i was gonna just pay) but my friend stopped us to confirm what we were charged for and it was all correctly summed up. Needless to say, they didn't get a hefty tip (and i am a strong believer in tipping servers well). I asked my friends if we could please leave because the workers were staring over at us, and making me feel super uncomfortable. All in all, my friends enjoyed their food. I enjoyed my pad thai. But the customer service and the overpriced salad was a no go for me. I honestly hope someone takes a picture of the salad so that you guys can see that I'm not a crazy lady haha read more

I am goving tbis place a 5 based on how good the food is, how large the portions are for the price and where it is located. I am from NYC where there are tons of excellent food options both expensive and reasonably priced. I have not found comparable food in very many places Delaware. I no longer eat out or order in very often due to finances, have lived within walking distance of this spot for a year, didn't feel like cooking and gave it a try. I do not like spicy food so I ordered the chicken drunken noodles with no spice. Delicious! Flavorful, the noodles were cooked right and I love the addition of actual thai basil. I also ordered 5 of the southeast wings because of the great reviews but one cannot order them with no spice. However, they only have a slight kick which goes so well with the sweetness and crispy texture. Delicious! I look forward to trying something else! The noodles will last me at least one more meal. Masaman curry, pad thai, drunken noodles, pho, fried dumplings, crispy egg roll. It was all good and would be terrific as takeout food. Love the wings here! They come with a sweet spicy sauce covering a crunchy fried coating on ginormous meaty wings. They are one-of-a-kind and a definite must try. Hubs gets the panang curry every time we're there and my two go-to's are the pad sew (flat noodles in a yummy soy sauce) and the pho. I also love their spring rolls in vermicelli noodles and the pan-fried noodles. This is the best asian spot in Delaware and they are also BYO which is a big deal. read more

I ordered: - pork rice platter; crispy spring roll - salmon special - kitchen dumplings (steam) the pork was too hard, overcooked and the salmon was too soft - undercooked, almost raw like. The dumplings was chewy. To make matters more bitter, the waiter spilled the soy sauce while setting the dishes on the table and didn't say a word and just left. I left like this place was trying way too hard to be a place for a hipster. The only redeeming moment was when the chef or owner came to our table and asked us in Vietnamese - "how was your meal?" The food is good. However, every time we have ordered, part of the order is not packed. As there is no close parking and no counter space, you have to trudge to the car and check the order. Things missing. Trudge back and argue that things were left out. They check, then double check the receipt. Ah ha! There it is on the shelf with my name on it. We order a lot and leave a good tip. I never noticed this restaurant before because when I take a walk out from work, it is in the opposite direction on Delaware Avenue from the strip mall. When everyone started talking about Southeast Kitchen though, I figured I had to try it one day. Southeast Kitchen is an unpretentious affair. One might not notice it at first because even the restaurant sign is plain and small. And that simple / barebones motif continues into the interior as well. There are just a few tables for dine-in customers and a counter where you place your order. You can see the cooks working in the kitchen. I tried the Drunken Noodles with chicken. I thought it was pretty good -- spicy but not burning, with a more-than-adequate portion size of noodles and chicken. Service was cordial too.
