Food not as good as it used to be although pancakes are huge, thick and pretty good tasting. My sausage patties were frozen so they burned them trying to thaw and cook them and they were burned and hard as hockey pucks. Eggs were cold. Just not good enough for the $50 bucks we paid for two people. Well here's a business that made a decision to not only increase prices drastically they also have implemented a fee if you choose to pay by debit or credit. They know most people nowadays don't pay in cash so what other way to squeeze more money out of people than by charging them to pay by card. I have a good allergy. after I placed my order I called to confirm they knew I needed special instructions for my order. even knew there was an up charge. i got my food and it still contained what I was allergic to. i called just to let them know and the woman who answered the phone didn't believe me. questioned me about what it looked like. acted as though I didn't know what i am allergic to looks like. i understand that mistakes happen but when someone calls to confirm you know about a food allergy it's pretty important. the woman after a while said she could make me a new order or get my name to comp my next order, but I won't be coming back. honestly shame on her. I've worked in the service industry pretty much my whole life and have experienced everything. I understand the times we are in and the added pressure & stress restaurants have felt and been under. However, my most recent visit here will be my last. The food is good and our server was pleasant, but the manager on duty could use some customer service training. The lesson I learned today is that if you order an item off the menu that comes with set sides - and you want to substitute those sides, you get charged for the full price of the new sides you ordered, as well as full price for your original item. Most restaurants - will have an 'Add on' button or a 'comp' to make up for the price addition/subtraction. For instance - if you order an item that's priced at $12 and comes with 3 sides, but you just 1 side of something else besides those 3, you shouldn't be charged for the full price of the item + 3 sides on top of the new side you ordered. If that's the case, give me the 3 sides, since under your pricing model, they are free. According to this manager - if you don't want the sides that comes with the item, that's your loss and not her problem - you still pay for the full menu item. So no substitutions - even though that's nowhere on the menu. Had the manager not been so rude with explaining this, maybe I would have had a better understanding, as I was not looking for a free meal, but a fair meal. Bad business model when people are trying to support local. I'm sure I'll find a business that appreciates it's customers more and isn't so rude. read more

I've been here many times, so this review will be for an overall experience. Every time I've been here we have been seated quickly (parties of 4-8 each time), taken care of very well, and looked after. Food is always incredible, and the rotating specials menu often has some of the best items, which is a delight as most restaurants specials menu is hit or miss. We come early to avoid the crowds. Every time we come in and ask to sit outside they tell us they are not sitting out, however 5 minutes after being seating a white family will ask to be seated outside and they are sat out. We have even tried coming in with the crowd and ask for sitting outside. The hostess will tell us that before they sit us they have to ask everyone waiting to be seated inside and they make us wait until our number comes up, even after everyone has told them they rather sit in. We are Latinos and have lived in the Plainfield area for 12 years, the waiters are nice and take good care of us, but the manager and hostess are rude and racist. Not sure what has happened, but this place has changed for the worse. To start when I walked in my menu was all dirty, and the lamination was ripped open, seen it's better days. When I went to order, I was going to get a side of pancakes. The waitress was super nice and said just an fyi a side cost $8. I said I will pass. When food came out my scramble eggs were cold, and were like rubber. Biscuits and gravy were horrible. Biscuits so hard, and gravy sauce had no taste. We usually come here often but we won't be coming back again. We made a reservation but when we got there, they had us wait for 40 minutes and seated many parties before us who came in after us. We enjoyed the food and waitress was very nice. But when we went up to the register to ask for a discount since they made us wait 40 min when we had made a reservation, the manager came out right away ready to fight and already angry when we nicely asked. We didn't complain or yell. We asked if there was a chance we could get a discount and she was right away very angry and making a scene and telling us that reservations aren't a guarantee. When we said we spent a lot of money but won't be coming back any more she was totally ok with it and didn't bother trying to keep us. I've been coming to this restaurant for 10+ years. The food has always been 5 stars. I've noticed in the last few visits that the service depends on whom your server is. The new bus guys are very annoying. The three of them wonder around the restaurant talking, checking their phones, basically it apparently takes all 3 mopes to clean one table. It multiplies the effect when a server doesn't appear at your table for at least 5 minutes. While you watch other servers take orders from people who came in after you. The the "coup de gras" the Amazon woman, Hostess, (by title only) seats you, walks away saying little to nothing. Not even a grunt. Funny thing is..it was slow.no reason for any attitudes. This was my first experience at this restaurant. Good news: the staff is friendly and the restaurant appears to be well maintained. Bad news: the food... I would say I'm lost for words but that would be a lie. I've got a few. Pork Belly Benedict so... those grit cakes are a travesty and disrespectful. Only to be topped with unseasoned spinach and tomatoes which was a recipe for what can only be described as, "wet grey matter". The poached eggs were medium and not runny on 2/3 orders so consistency seems to be a challenge. Hash browns were undercooked but browned nicely, I guess? We also ordered chicken & waffles and an omelette. Chicken was odd and not reminiscent of any southern style fried chicken I've had. The disrespect continues with the omelette which was dense and an awkward dirty beige color (as if it was cooked in burnt grease). But hey, we enjoyed our juices! This is a one and done for us. I've been here 3-4 times, mostly on weekends, and each time the service is slow and the waiters don't introduce themselves. The last time I was here we were seated but no one came up to us for about 20 minutes, and this was after we made eye contact with several servers and we saw them discuss who should help us. Someone finally came over, asked what we wanted to drink (we didn't have water yet) and never introduced herself, acting a little flippant. This is a nice comfy spot in Plainfield. I love places where you can get breakfast or lunch because sometimes, I just don't know! I had a scrambler with tomatoes, ham and swiss cheese. It looked a little odd as it was sortof pinky red from the ingredients but it actually tasted really good. I like scramblers better than omelets, they are a bit less organized and softer on the outside. I also had an English muffin, fruit salad and coffee all of which were pretty regular but the orange juice was superb. I liked the layout, the very cold A/C, the comfortable chairs and tables plus that they left us alone and let my girlfriend and I talk. We needed privacy and space and we absolutely got both. I ordered the Southern Belle Skillet which was very , very good (kind of a meat lovers/ butcher block thingy) and not dry like a certain way over rated place throughout the Chicago suburbs.. and it came with a side of pancakes... they let me substitute RED VELVET PANCAKES! The RVP's come with this delicious cream cheese topping and with some syrup.. I was pretty much in heaven. Decent coffee. Lisa got a basic breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns) and pumpkin pancakes. It was good ** we'll get back to those pumpkin pancakes Our friend Janet got the mexican skillet and she was pretty much "it's a'ight" if she spoke that way. And the side of pumpkin pancakes** OK for the ** nobody was grooving on the pumpkin pancakes.. when they set them down.. I was soooo relieved that I didn't order them. They had (GASP!) fruit on them! I'm sure it said it on the menu someplace.. but none of us saw it. A sauce of apples and cranberries. Apparently, I was not alone in my thoughts because they both tasted them and scraped them off.. even tried to pawn some off the apple off on the baby.. he wasn't having any of it. I have been here a few times and each of those times I am disappointed about something. On one occasion my hashbrowns and toast came out burnt. The toast was black and the hashbrowns were so crispy that I couldnt eat them. I had already waited forever for my food and I had to send the potatoes back and wait some more. Second time the server was just awful. She was rude and not attentive at all. The food was just meh.. Third time my order was wrong, I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese. They useta have one of these in Oswego (now inhabited by the wretched "Biscuits") but it weren't as good as this one. This place has a nice modern "cafe" type air, while the Oswego joint was one of those "mismatched antique" places that owners do when they dont have a clue (or more likely a budget) for real decor. Luckily, that ain't the case with the Plainfield "Belle's". I was there 8:30-ish on a Thursday, and the place was ger-JAMMED. They put me in a 6-top booth (I ain't THAT fat..). The Menu is dense, but not too bad to decipher. As I am in "no-carb" mode, the vaunted pancakes were off the twig, but I'm not a pancake guy anyway. I got scrambled eggiwegs with onions and jalapeños, the home-made sausage patties and subbed the taters, precious, with Cheese d'Cottage. The best brekky I have had in recent times was at Juicy-O's, and I must say that "Belle's" is right there. The Eggs were creamy and buttery, with just the right amount of Onion and Jalapeños-and FRESH Jalapeños at that. I don't mind the ones in escabeche when I'm sucking Coronas and pounding Tequila Shots-but in Eggs only the fresh ones will do, and they DID at Belles. The home-made sausage patties were fine fine fine. I think Juicy-O's has a very slight edge here, due to a bit more aggressive seasoning, hence the missing star. If I had never had the Juicy-O's patties, the 'Belle patties would reign. Crispy on the edges, with a sagey-porky goodness, they are head and shoulders above most every other breakfast jernt you've been to. I'd been looking for the great breakfast sausages in the sky-like I would imagine an Indiana or Iowa farm Mom/wife would make for her family. Finally found them first at juicy-O's and now here. Very good Coffee Shop coffee-not aggressive like Starbucks, which I've determined to be a solitary brew-It's the star, not great with food. Coffee shop coffee should not compete with the food, and should be benign enough to allow mulpital cups whilst sitting there shooting the sheetglass with your cronies, post-meal.The "throw" of the Diet Coke was very very good, too. It's the little things, y'know? A few folks remarked that they found my praise of the cottage cheese at Juicy-O's funny yet helpful. If a joint takes care with their cottage cheese, that bodes well for the rest of the Menu. 'Belles Cheese was fab and creamy, with a portion too large to finish. I apologize for invoking the Juicy-o name throughout this review, but that place knocked me out. To see the same fine quality in another local chain was most welcome. the Men's room was even Boy Scout (bright, clean ,and cheerful) Input and Output, both a pleasant experience here. I went to southern belles in Plainfield on Friday 1/29. Everything was okay till I lifted my sandwich and saw two blue dots on my bread, it was moldy bread. I was so disgusted and shocked. I waited for my server to come and told her that there was mold on my sandwich and she said "oh sorry about that I'll have them make you another one" at this point the person I was with had his food already and had to wait for my new sandwich to come out. No manager came over to talk about the situation. The server gave me different bread to "be safe". So at this point it wasn't what I ordered. I only ate about half because I lost my appetite. The server brought the bill and charged me the full price of the sandwich. I work in a restaurant and if a mistake is made on the restaurant end there is always some sort of compensation. I went up and asked the manager and she was never even made aware of the moldy bread. Rather she said "there's no way our bread is made fresh". She then went to ask the server and the server said she remade the sandwich so the manager said if it was remade why would I be compensated anything. I was really bothered by the attitude that was given. Mold is not something to take lightly so I was shocked that they didn't handle the situation with more care. I don't know how a business can let a customer walk away unsatisfied with a problem that happened on their end. read more

I asked for patties instead of links when given the choice by our server. I wasn't expecting two enormous burger sized patties though. Way way too much sausage. I and my family stopped here on the way back from errands. After being sat, a bus person brought some water (too much ice). I would guess we waited about five minutes before a server came to our table. Our server was friendly and had a bright tone to her voice. I placed an order for the Irishman's Skillet (I wanted to try their home made hash.) About three minutes later, our server came by with our syrup and the hot sauce I requested. After about eleven and a half minutes, we received our meal. The pancakes are quite good, with a slight sweetness coming from the batter, and a good texture. I was somewhat disappointed with my skillet, however. While it was evident the corned beef was hand made, and not from a can, it was somewhat lacking in flavor, requiring generous splashes of Cholula. I could have used another egg on top as well, as the skillet's contents were quite dry. I did not feel I received value for the $10.45 the skillet cost. Perhaps it was the party in the private room, but our server seemed rushed and was impatient with my wife's questions about pricing, even though she offered to speak with a manager instead (since the server was busy). I'm going to chalk this up to scheduling or something since it seemed like the seating was at about fifty percent. There was a spot of weirdness as well when we paid. We purchased a Groupon which gave us $15.00 off. The cashier only honored it for $14.00, explaining it had something to do with adjusting for tax (?) My mouth is watering for this place just thinking about how awesome their breakfast is. I've been here quite a few times with neighbors for a "farewell breakfast" before heading to the airport to fly back to Kansas City. This is ALWAYS the place that everyone wants to go.
