I wish the BBQ ribs were a bit juicier especially because it was part of their specials. The bbq sauce was more like a tomoatoe sauce. The apple juice tasted more like a very sweet iced tea which was a bit strange. I would still come again because the other dishes were phenomenal and I cant complain. **OVERALL REVIEW** First and foremost, I am happy there is another breakfast/brunch restaurant taking the risk to open south of Malabar Rd. As a matter of fact, any business that opens south of the aforementioned road gets my respect, because business isn't exactly at is prime southbound. But to be honest, all of the breakfast/brunch places south of Malabar Rd. have been fantastic, and with their respect to traditional breakfast along as innovating it, it looks like Southern Cypress Bistro has become my new favorite breakfast/brunch place here in the Space Coast. Though an address is provided, Southern Cypress Bistro (which I will shorthand simply to Southern Cypress for the remainder of this review) is located in Shady Oaks, the "somewhat sad" strip mall located at the southwest quadrant of the Malabar Rd./Babcock St. intersection. On the oustside, Southern Cypress looks like any other business here, but at least it has the visibility from Malabar Rd. The entrance is flanked by columns and brick post foundations, in which the sidewalk is large enough for about four tables and chairs of outdoor seating. Inside, the interior is updated to be cozy but moderate. At least they did not highly-depend on modern architecture and furniture design to highlight the space. Nothing gaudily sharp or grotesque. There is a bar for single-serving patrons as well as many tables for groups, especially families. Space-wise, the dining room is a-okay with groups as they combine tables, but given the fact this is a scratch kitchen, one of their flaws is the time it takes to create food on the small staff they seem to have. And if there are more than one big group, you might have to wait a time before your food comes to you. That is expected with a scratch kitchen, and despite it all, the staff, especially the waiters, are very kind, attentive, and do their best with the time constrants and limitations they may have. For me, the two waitresses I had were Christine and Amber the second time. Definitely enjoyed their service. Now to the main event: the food. I have ordered one appetizer, one side, and two main dishes from here over the course of my visits: The cheese fried eggs, chorizo biscuits and gravy, hush puppies, and macaroni and cheese. The cheese fried eggs were phenomenal as they fry the cheese on the bottom of the egg which in turn keeps the egg intact when you eat it. That was one of the most-innovative ways I have eaten fried eggs ever. The chorizo biscuits and gravy are overflowing with umami flavor and they don't skimp on the chorizo, too. Finally, the hush puppies were surprising because not only did they have cornbread in them, but crab. Wow! That was amazing. And as for the mac n' cheese. It was simple and good. However, I got it to add the "extra" from the other dishes to it and exemplify its flavor even more. The first time, I had extra hash browns which I threw in. The latest time, I had chorizo gravy to throw in. Both times made the mac n' cheese taste way better than it already was. Another flaw - depending on the person - would be the price. Let's face it, the price on everything is going up and overall wages are going down. I am fortunate that I am willing not to settle and to keep going upward in my profession meaning more money and more time. Prices for the food I ordered are in the pictures of the menu or captioned in my pictures of food. Finally, the baked goods Southern Cypress has are exquisite but minimal. I got myself a couple of good donuts, but also got a cronut (which I jokingly also call a dosaint) to split with friends, and a maple bacon donut for my girl, Damaris. She got me trained well to take care of her. And just so it is noted, the men's restroom was cleaned and well-stocked. But given that it was a single-server, the restrooms could do well being unisex. Ultimately, I am giving Southern Cypress five-out-of-five stars for this overall review. Every time I have been here, the food has been phenomenal, the service fantastic, and everything that is considered a flaw is understandable if you see the whole picture and have patience. Like I said, this is now my favorite breakfast/brunch place in Brevard County and I will definitely return for more as well as recommend this place to all my friends, family, and fellow Yelpers. read more

We were looking to stop in and grab a healthy bite. We came across southern cypress. The wait staff was great. They seemed to be a bit busier than normal because we ordered coffee to start and it came without condiments. I need a little sweetener with cream. By the time she returned my coffee got cold. Nevertheless, they did bring me a new cup of coffee. They also gave us a free blueberry muffins right out of the oven while we waited for our meal. Totally delicious!!! Our meal took about 20 minutes which is to be expected farm to table and everything is made fresh. He ordered the biscuits & gravy w/eggs which were phenomenal. I had a bite. I had the Denver omelette that was perfect. Both dishes have a savory favor to die for. Very satisfying. As I am a booshie food snob, this establishment passed the test. We also got to meet the grandparents of the chef. It was nice to hear how they inspired him to follow is passion. We will be back. First time here and I will be back. Nice variety of menus items and not everyday fare. I had the Avocado toast and trust me not the avocado toast I make at home. Lovely presentation, bacon on it was crispy and delicious, fresh and tasty avocado. In asking others around about their meals, everyone said great food and they took will be back. Decided to try this new restaurant. Upon arriving we found the place quaint with a black tablecloth and a pretty lamp on each table. Tables were set with a napkin and black well-weighted black knife and fork. The place was busy with only 4 vacant tables and 1 waitress. A couple was also seated outside. The cute little place is quite pricey especially for breakfast. One is obviously paying for the atmosphere. The menu has a variety of "fancy" dishes. I got a a Latte that tasted wonderful but was cool and served in a giant coffee cup. It took some time for the 1 waitress to get our drinks and take our order since she had many responsibilities and the entire room. There was someone who cleaned off the tables but left the entire set-up for the waitress...tablecloth and all. The waitress was also tasked with fixing the latte, serving as hostess by seating people and providing menus and there was no runner serving the food. As usual she had regular wait duties such as taking the order, warming coffee, checking to see if guests needed anything, etc.. with no help. Today she was informed by the cook after taking the orders that they were out of several things. In expensive restaurants the wait staff is informed BEFORE shifts if they are out of something (which is rare) so the customer can be informed up front. Not at this Bistro! They were out of steak and simple things such as hamburger and spinach. Really? This caused the 1 waitress to return menus and input another (and sometimes a third) order,,,,wasting valuable time for an already over-worked employee. My husband had gravy and biscuits ($20) since they were out of hamburger for the Breakfast Burger ($17). The biscuits were so stale, it was difficult to cut and the "gravy" was so spicy and more like a sauce. The scrambled egg was cooked hard on the outside and runny on the inside. I ordered the Florentine Omelet ($16) but since they were out of spinach chose Chicken and Waffle ($24). The waffle was delicious, the chicken overcooked almost burned. The bacon syrup was an unusual and terrific touch. The food was served on nice curved plates that could also serve as bowls. Our 2 breakfast meals cost $59.28 plus the tip. No discounts were offered despite slow service plus the fact that what we ordered was unavailable, There was a woman conducting an interview at one of the tables. When she finished, she got up, said something to the waitress then retired to an office. She offered no assistance to the waitress. There were at least 3 flies in the restaurant that continually landed on our food and drinks. We were constantly fanning them away. Although the waitress did the best she could with a room full of guests and her other duties, the least amount of tip one could leave was 15%. We are normally heavy tippers (25%+), however we do tip on the level of service received. We eat breakfast out a lot. We frequent local family owned places such as Dottie's and Jersey Brothers as well higher priced chains such as First Watch and Keke's. We're always looking for a good experience to add to our future dining list. This unfortunately was not one of those good experiences. read more

I almost don't want to share because I don't want it to get to crowded, but I honestly can't say enough good things about this restaurant. From the wait staff, who are charming and attentive, to the chef, Caleb, who is really fun to talk to and makes the most amazing food. The presentation definitely elevates the experience to another level. The fact that it is all fresh and locally sourced makes it even more amazing. I love the family owned feature too. The only thing that concerns me is that they are going to outgrow their location soon. In three weeks since our first experience it has already started a lot more customers. So go, try the crab hushpuppies (the sauce is good enough to sell), and take home some propagated lettuce and cobbler for later. It's good! read more

This is the type of restaurant Palm Bay desperately needs! I must be honest, when we pulled into the plaza lot I was a bit skeptical. From the outside it looks like a typical Palm Bay diner... wrong! Inside is cozy with faux brick walls. The menu is creative with twists on basic breakfast. For example, the cheese fried eggs I just enjoyed; caramelized Gruyère and cheddar as a crust for fried eggs! Possibly the best eggs I've ever had! They even offer locally made jams for your toast! How about tomato, carrot or a blueberry bourbon jam!!! The service was attentive and very friendly. Yes, it's more expensive than Dennys, but the quality and portions are absolutely worth it! We had our first visit this morning for breakfast. I had the breakfast tacos and it was delicious. It is a little pricier than say Dennys price but they did have a "special" menu that seemed slightly adjusted food and price wise. They do offer military discount. Good treat I would say. Service was great. Our server was kind, attentive, and very informative about the food we were about to eat. The look inside was very different from the outside. It was clean and modern. We were seated promptly, but it's not the biggest restaurant so be aware you may have to wait for a table if its busy. The vibe was actually quite elegant for a breakfast and lunch spot. The Service was mainly timely, but I can't even complain for the few extra minute wait because the Omelet was one of the best I've ever had. My daughter and her toddler, my sister and myself had brunch today to try this relatively new restaurant. We were not disappointed one bit!!! The food is farm to table ensuring freshness and then to top it off, perfectly prepared. The hostess, restaurant manager and even the chef made sure we were well taken care of. We each had a different herbal drink. Very different but all delicious. We had...banana pancakes, cheese fried eggs, candied bacon, roasted potatoes, parliment omelette and left with a to go breakfast for my hubby!!! The service here was not to a tea. While they claimed they were down a chef there is no reason that we should have not gotten our drinks refilled. We havent had a waitress come back to our table for 20 minutes now. I understand being understaffed but it should not go along with not having our drinks refilled or an update on our food. Tried this restaurant for breakfast Wed morning with my wife; I ordered the french toast with eggs and sausage and wifey got the waffle with potato mash and bacon, so review is based on that alone. I may be a "basic breakfast" guy, but I also believe it's pretty hard to screw up breakfast, but this place managed to. The waitress started off by saying that they even had everything today, but, turns out, they had no decaf hot tea, they had no sausage so I got bacon instead, and the french toast was so loaded with nutmeg and sugar that it was inedible. Waitress never stopped by to ask how things were; I wanted water but was then informed that all they have is bottled. Food rating:3, wait staff:2, atmosphere: ok, nice to have table cloths and clean place, if only because it is newly renovated, but it definitely has an AWFL vibe. This would work in Orlando, maybe Viera, but it will not make it here in PB/Malabar area. read more
