So it was a Sunday and they were extremely busy, they took so long for 3 coffees and although it looked delicious sadly it tasted terrible. The coffee has a sour taste to it, unfortunately it didn't do it for me. The place was so cute and spacious inside. Maybe if I came back I'd try something else but I did not like their coffee hot or cold. First impressions are everything, right? We'll, the young cashier who greeted us was friendly, welcoming and so sweet! She answered our questions patiently and gave us recommendations- all with a smile the entire time. The house burger was fantastic! It might just be my new favorite place for a burger. I saw a big menu and various great desserts..I had the chocolate cake..so scrumptious. They had beers on tap and wine. They offer interesting sandwiches.. This location is super cute and I love the interior! It had more ease of parking than the location in San Marco (that I initially thought was my meeting location). There is some covered outdoor seating in the front and when you enter, it's high ceiling with lovely decor. I had the macchiato and breakfast sandwich (I chose croissant, ham, egg, and Swiss). The drinks and food are brought to your table. Drink was not bad, I didn't love the white chocolate syrup (I am used to Starbucks' white mocha), but loved the warm croissant. It was flakey, soft, and delicious. My friends and I really enjoyed everything. They really liked the regular coffee and the latte. Staff were friendly and helpful with ordering. I'm absolutely in love with Southern Grounds. I started coming to the Neptune Beach location when I lived at the beach during the pandemic. I love how they have outdoor seating and our pet friendly. I know my roommates dog always loved the pup chinos. You can't go wrong with the casual ambience great place for a meeting a small event or just to have a quiet cup of coffee. I'm excited that they're finally expanding into Saint Augustine. It's a nice touch that they offer beer and wine as well as I recommend their avocado toast. read more

Today I had the Turkey Apple Panini and it was soooooo good. I added arugula and it was the perfect addition to an already great sammy. Had some time to kill this morning so decided to try this place out and I really enjoyed it! It is HUGE!! I really dig how spread out it is. I got here around 930AM and it wasn't that crowded, lots of seating to choose from. It started filling in as the morning went on so I'd say the earlier the better (and quieter). One good thing is the place is so big, so the acoustics seem to balance out and it's not overly noisy. This is important to me for a coffee shop since I'm usually coming to do work or have conversation with a friend. I ordered a large chai tea latte with coconut milk and banana chocolate chip muffin. Both were amazing!! I would recommend everyone try the muffin, soooo rich and delicious! I could only eat half. They offer a wide variety of foods- from breakfast items such as bagels, to bowls, to benedicts; to lunch items such as tacos, salads and hot sandwiches. There truly is something for everyone here! You can't ignore the dessert case as you walk through the door. It will catch your eye before anything else! Very tempting, but at 9AM I had to resist. Made a stop in Avondale today and figured I'd try a new spot. The restaurant is open and bright and very clean. Great place to wake up and start your day. There was a lively group of young ladies having a reserved party in the back which gave some extra life to the room. The staff was hit or miss unfortunately. I sat for some eggs, toast and a cafe con leche. While the coffee was beautiful, it was just an espresso and not the delectable cuban treat I was hoping for. It was good it's just not what I wanted. Next when my food arrived I wasn't asked if I needed anything and had to wait for someone to come by before I could ask for salt/pepper and sugar for my coffee. They ran and got me packets of salt and pepper but then I was told if I wanted sugar (which are also in packets) I would have to go up to the front myself to get some. Needless to say I was thrilled to leave my food at the bar to go get my own sugar. Those things should be available for guests at tables. So I planned on taking a couple of friends there for on a Saturday morning I picked the avendale location because it was the biggest and a higher moral room to accommodate us. I was a little surprised that it was a but it didn't stop the food from tasting gyou should. I ordered A 3 omelet and a latte that was very delicious. The soft hair was very nice and prominent alien we had we had practically our own little room with the table and the wine behind it. My friends were also impressed by press by how nice the place was and how good the food was the only thing that we all kind of noticed was the price of things there were higher than we would have normally paid. It was a shaky beginning. During the beginning of the Covid era, I visited the San Marco location and "rude" could not begin to describe the way the staff and manager treated our party. It was like "sh*t brother", we're just wearing masks and only kindly asked the staff not to spit when they talked over our food. So, going to my neighborhood Southern Grounds in Avondale, wasn't on my first-choice-list. However, it is now. I love it. Great vibes. If you're a local, you see all your neighbors. If you aren't a local, you have a great time meeting people, or enjoying your space in peace. The coffee is delicious and the food, is unexpectedly fantastic. (I only say this because you wouldn't expect a coffee/hang-out place to have such quality food.) Breakfast options are top notch; I partcularly love the breakfast burrito and avocado toast. The lunch options are equally as delicious with a wide variety of options. Parking is always an issue on the Avondale strip; if you've been here you know...... but you just have to hope your good karma parking angel is alert and ready to helpyou find a spot. Oh my goodnesss!! This place is so amazing! We're from the Jersey Shore, and this is my favorite place i've been to in Jacksonville!! I got the California Bagel, a Chocolate Twist, a Caramel Latte (almond milk), and a strawberry banana smoothie. Everything absolutely blew me away! This is my first time patronizing Southern Grounds since the pandemic and i was blown away at the number of people at this location during lunch. There was a long line, but it moved fast thanks to the numbering system assigned at the counter. Food and drinks came out promptly, and we were able to sit anywhere. We chose the long gray couches in the middle of the restaurant, and we could hear our conversation perfectly despite the number of patrons. The matcha is powder-based so rest assured you're not getting a lot of added sugars present in a concentrate-based matcha. Restrooms were very clean and this would also be a great place to work. Not just "not hot" it was cold, like they made the eggs hours ago and put them in the fridge. I take it back to the counter, they eventually bring me a new order. Also cold. No manager in sight. Nobody ever came to check if the new order was good. HEY MANAGERS! When a customer brings an order back it is your responsibility, AS A MANAGER, to go check that the problem was fixed and the customer is happy. Stopped in today for a cup of coffee to go with my book and ordered a small drip coffee ($3.01) with cream. Got my number and found a table in the busy restaurant. Despite the fact that the business is large, they were still full at 10AM, so finding an empty table was no small task. The staff were helpful and polite. They took time to make sure your order was correct and answer questions about things you may not know. They even helped me find a penny so I did not get ninety-nine cents in change back. Coffee was good and served in a nice mug. They also offer free refills on plain coffee which is a plus. We have given this place two tries and each time we've been amazed at how slow and unorganized they are for such a large and busy coffee house in Avondale. The first time we wait 15 minutes for a regular cup of coffee to go, and our second visit we waited ten minutes for a latte to go. They seem to only employee one barista a shift - the same barista who has been working each time seems to be the only thing holding that place together, I might add. At first the Steak Frits were amazing. Very tender with what seems to be a mushroom sauce. Then tried the Oriental Bowl and it too was awesome along with the Jasmine rice. Went back for the Oriental bowl and the meat was tough, rare when I requested medium and the rice was just plain white rice cold. Chicken sandwich as well, initially awesome. Then second visit got cold chicken half gristle on a cold bun with what seems to be microwaved bacon. The macha green tea was just green water. I decided to get the most expensive breakfast item on the menu. Treat yo'self. Besides I like Eggs Benedict and the promise of sourdough (my favorite kind of bread) was to tantalizing for me to pass up. It tasted as good as it looked. Wholesome, fresh--all the right flavors. Loved the avocado layers and the eggs were perfectly done, the yolk golden and melty, the whites creamy but not gelatinous. Giving it 4.5 stars. The grits had great texture, but lacked a flavor. I heard the coffee is great. Next time I come, I'll make sure to try it. A lovely way to pass an hour. I had the Grits bowl which was very good. I would have liked more meat but that's not on them, I'm just a caveman. The coffee was just ok, but the whole experience made it nice.
