I have spent time in Asheville, where the standard for bread is genuinely high, and this holds its own next to places like Owl Bakery. If you care about bread, go early and go often. What a delightful spot!! I was craving a croissant and made the trip up here, it was well worth the drive. Croissant was delightful--perfectly flaky with just the right chew. Lots of coffee/ tea options too. The inside is a little crowded especially for a large group so we sat outside which although their outdoor area is cute, is tough on a Jax summer day. There were tons of ants and bugs that made it difficult to sit down and enjoy. No fault of the restaurant but would recommend eating inside if you can find a spot. The best foodie quest so far this year. I fell off in love instantly with the cottage style house setup. As I walked up to the counter there nothing but smiling faces staring back at me. I ordered an egg sandwich on sourdough bread with an iced tea. I also ordered a sourdough rosemary & garlic loaf to go. The iced tea had a mild minty flavor and it tasted out of this world. The staff is amazing and quick. Prices are fair and service is easy included so no issues with tips. Parking is easy with several places to park your vehicle. The food here is great. This place offers a casual indoor and outdoor ambiance (in the weather situation when I stopped in, outdoor was the clear favorite). They offer a variety of baked goods to go and prepared food items for those that wish to sit. I saw the option for a white bean and avocado sandwich and was thrilled; you don't need to have some crazy new fake meat product to make a good vegetarian breakfast. I ordered it, and it was a robustly flavored sandwich with pesto inside. Adding a salad, however, was not a great decision. Don't get me wrong, the lettuce was delightfully crisp and the house dressing flavorful, but $5 for a little lettuce and some dressing just isn't worth it. On the other hand, their chai latte was full of all the flavor one could ask for. The bun I took to eat later was sweet and delicious. My friend and I had never visited Community Loaves so made a date to have lunch here. You wait "outside" on the porch until you can get inside for the line. They have menus outside so you can decide what you want while you're waiting. The line moves fairly quickly. Up front is a bakery case with lots of goodies for sale. Even though it was fairly early for lunch (11:45) the case was quite empty. She said they sell out quickly, so get here early if you want something specific. We both ordered Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup. It is self-serve for water, silverware, and napkins, which we didn't know, but watched others and figured it out. The inside is quaint, with a hand-painted mural on one wall. Seating is not bad, with small tables. If you have a large group you'll, need to scoot chairs around. The Grilled Cheese was gooey and filled with onion jam. It was toasted well. The tomato soup was not a cream soup, but broth based. It was good but could have used something to spice it up a bit. Tasted like tomatoes in a broth, without much flavor. I was somewhat confused about the 10% service charge they add on your bill. Pretty much everything is self-serve, including bussing your own table. If you need to pay your employees more, then do so and just reflect that in your pricing. I don't expect a service charge when I order at a counter, get my own drinks and silverware, and bus my own table. But that's just my opinion. Menu is quite limited, and if not for the bakery case, can't say I will be back for breakfast and/or lunch. read more

I guess I completely forgot to take pictures of the food... but it was still yummy! I had the Apple Spice Sourdough Pancakes and an Avocado toast with an egg on it. The Apple Spice Pancakes were delicious! They had a great amount of apple/pumpkin/spice in them. I love the small apple chunks as well as the pecans. It was topped off with a huge wad of salted butter though, which could have definitely been placed on the side so that it didn't soak through and saturate the center of the pancake. The avocado toast on Rosemary Parmesan break was yummy, but the egg on top was just okay. It was a way too over cooked and because of that, was not that great. I also ordered a chai tea here. Despite asking for it to be as scalding as possible, it was lukewarm and the drink must have been at least 70% just water. I'm not sure if I just caught them on a bad day?? The vibes here are great though, because the community so clearly loves them and everyone that works there is very sweet. There definitely could be some improvements. read more

It is located in Edgewood, plenty of parking in the morning and probably they can get pretty busy on their rush hour. this place is so cute! when you enter, on the left you will see the counter with all their sweet goods and where you can order. that morning they only have 2 sweet choices which was a butter cream filled cake and chocolate muffins, believe it or not I did not try any of the sweets but I got their strawberry jam and I tried it yesterday and it was sooooo good!!!!!!!! very fresh and the sweetness is not over the top. we ordered Foccacia Egg Sandwich added sausage, Hummus Focaccia Sandwich and added a sausage and their strawberry sourdough pancake as for drinks we have strawberry lemonade and the strawberry latte. ohh my goodness! the food was amazing! The focaccia bread was fresh and soft and the egg and the sausage compliments each other it was good! I did not try the Hummus Focaccia sandwich but it looks amazing too and the pesto that was put on it smells so fresh! my favorite of all was the strawberry sourdough, I can eat that everyday! Went to Community Loaves for the first time today and this place was a rip off for three reasons we experienced in this one visit: 1. The ice lattes are served in what can only be described as a child's sippy cup. One shot of espresso in a child size cup waS $6 + tax and service charge. 2. This cafe has a sign that says "tips not accepted", but when you look closer theres an automatic service charge added to the bill. Theres no transparency as to how much this service charge is, and its automatically added to the bill nto knowing how much. 3. Today was baguette day and we bought a baguette to go. When we brought it to the table is was rock hard, like bang on the table hard. We went to the register to switch it and it was the same issue. If this baguette was made today (on baguette day), the recipe is off. We had to force it down with a lot of olive oil and even then our teeth hurt just chewing it. There was no crunch to it like stale, it was just like chewing a hard piece of rubber inside and out. Poor quality control and Im sure this thing was $6 or more. This will be our first and only visit to this place and I felt others needed some hoenst feedback on the price gouging and quality going on here. read more

You ever go someplace and it feels like home, or like a memory of home from childhood? That is what happened when I walked into Community Loaves. It was the smells that had me feeling nostalgic- baking breads, sweets and savory foods. Mom and grandmom would cook and bake everyday and make everything from scratch. Something I learned to do at a very young age and by middle school I was baking treats for the family several times a week. Back to Community Loaves- the case at the front is filled with baked goods and breads but my eyes stopped on the mushroom-parmesan quiche! Oh yes please! And then I stumbled upon a croissant with peach filling and it looked like a cronut, I ordered one of those too. Because I came in just 15 minutes before closing- I opted to take my bakery finds to go, but I did go for a heated quiche. I ate most of it before getting home because it was so good and I couldn't help grabbing a bite at every traffic light! The peach pastry was not a cronut (sad face) but still a delightful treat that even the new kitten loved as he stole the last bite and hauled tail through the house with his kill! After a recommendation, I'm so glad I stopped by! I came on a Sunday afternoon, late, I should say as they close at 2pm. Nonetheless, I ordered the breakfast bowl (cheese grits with zucchini, pesto and tomatoes), kale artichoke croissant and the lemon pistachio (not pictured) . Oh so delicious! Others in my group let me try their rosemary sourdough and the 'everything' sourdough. That bread melted in my mouth. For my beverage I had an iced latte with oat milk flavored with vanilla and lavender. I'm truly impressed, their customer service is top notch. One of my favorite places for coffee and pastries in Jax. It can get very busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait in line but it goes quick! You order at the counter and they bring your order out to you wherever you sit. My favorite things they make are the Cardamom Roll(bun), cocoanut/pecan cookie sandwich. all of their breads, vanilla latte, and chai latte. They have outside and inside seating. This place kept coming up on Yelp while I'm looking for coffee spots so I decided to give it a try! Such a quaint spot I live the ambience.. I ordered: Avocado toast - The avocado was perfectly ripe, I know this is a a given for avocado but you'll be surprised how many times I've ordered this at other places and the avocado was too ripe or not ripe enough. They had pieces of garlic on top I love garlic, it was great. Box of goodies - Cheese danish, sweet potato roll and quiche, all was very good. Cold brew Mocha - it was strong but wasn't bitter, I added a little more cream but it was good. I was initially drawn in by the adorable exterior in historic Murray Hill, but I stay because of the smell of fresh coffee, brewing and rosemary bread upon entry! When I saw the line was almost out the door for this place, I had a good feeling. This bakery has everything you need from loose leaf tea brewed with love, to their signature loaves of bread that are made in house daily. Can you say "freshness" or what?! I had to see what the hype was about so I got the rosemary garlic loaf to go. They sliced it for me but you have the option to leave it whole! I figured while I was there, I'd get a little iced coffee to pick me up and I was pleasantly surprised to find out they had oat milk. I had pleasant interactions with all of the staff members and even discussed their cafe menu with one of them on my way out. When I got in my car to drive away, my entire car was lit up with the smell of fresh rosemary, I can't wait to serve my bread to my dinner guests later this week. Yay my first review of 2021 is the first restaurant I ate at for the new year! Community loaves is such an easy review too, it's wonderful!! Loved everything about it! It's an old house that was converted to a bakery/restaurant they make all their own pastries, breads, coffee drinks and a few lunchy kind of things! We came in for New Year's Day because they had a special of black eyed peas, greens and rice for prosperity in the new year! We got that and a few pastries and a coffee and headed out to the lovely outdoor patio under a big tree. Everything was excellent! They had a huge selection of pastries. The pastries were amazing, buttery and crispy! The peas and greens were even really tasty! The only thing that is a bummer is I don't live close to this place at all, if I did I would go much more!
