I said it last time and I'll say it again: This is one of the best BBQs I have ever had. I went in and was fully ready to wait in line but there wasn't a huge wait which I thought was a sign that I was supposed to go. (It was also Halloween so I think I just got lucky everyone else was out and busy) When I got to the front of the line, I already knew I was going to get the brisket again. But I changed up my sides this time. I love the cardamon corn bread I tried once from here so knew to get that and the shells and cheese (gotta bring home some for my son) this time. My wife got the foldie again with the barbacurry and a side of the shells with cheese too. The food is absolutely incredible here. Ryan and his team do a great job with their service and their food prep to make it run smooth and taste delicious. We wanted to cross the border back into the US before finding a place to eat. We searched around and found this place with good reviews and wanted to give this place a try. The restaurant is more of a long bar, with the dining area being in the very back. The place is themed after Texas, with the state's symbol and various items like album covers and posters adorning all of the walls. The bar in the front was packed when we went, but it was relatively quiet in the back dining area where we sat. The restaurant is small, though that may be because the place is split up by multiple white walls. We sat at a 4-person table, which was situated next to three green booths. In front of our table was one of the many white walls and beyond it were a few more tables that ranged from 2-seaters to 4-seaters. The restrooms were located in the very back and are dark. We got here on a Sunday and was told that they were serving brunch and that no other items were available. That was fine. We got the Sunday Brunch Trio for $20: Carnitas - smoked pork, chiles, cilantro, orange, red onions The Bird- spicy smoked chicken, spinach, butter chicken sauce and queso TVM Central - barbacurry, masala potatoes and mint sauce Daughter said she liked all three tacos but her favorite was the TVM Central because of the mint sauce. Hubs thought all three tasted similar but he agreed with daughter. He said that the mint sauce separated the flavor from all three of them making it slightly different. The barbacoa was softer. He thought that the Bird was a little overcooked, though. We all got aTexas sized cinnamon roll, which is homemade milk roll with cardamom whipped cream and candied pistachios. Daughter and I loved it a lot. She wanted to keep eating it but she had to stop. LOL. We also got a Brunch Foldie, which is pastrami and kielbasa with salsa, cheddar. Top 3 BBQ joints I have had in the country and its a lot of BBQ joints tested. The ribs are the best I have ever had....good crisp bark, bite on the bone and tender meat...the perfect bite. The sausage was quality meat ratio with a crisp casing, the brisket was really good and my buddy got the turkey and that was great too, ton of flavor. Sides we had were the Brisket Biriyani, had so much depth in flavor, some nice kick and my favorite of the sides we ordered. The mac n cheese has some sharp flavor to it, which is a huge plus for me, and it was saucy and delicious. My buddy got the brisket beans and they were really good, you can tell the beans arent canned and have a good chew to them. I've been to Southern Junction several times, and I must say that the food is absolutely exquisite. Our party of 4 split two platters, and we still took food home. Here's the set up: 1) You stand in line, no matter what time you get there, but the food is absolutely worth the wait! You can get their early and stand in line until they open, or you can get their after they open and wait until seating is available. 2) You order at the counter and then find a seat. If there are no seats, you can order it to go. 3) Eat the food--amazing! 4) Leave when you're finished so others can have a seat. What to order: 1. Brisket, brisket brisket! This is the showstopper. I have never had better brisket, and I've had a lot of brisket in my life. 2. Brisket biryani. If you like biryani, you will love this. 3. Cardamum cornbread. A unique twist on a Southern staple. 4. White Cheddar Mac n Cheese. A high-quality side. 5. Other meats: The ribs are very good. I'm originally from the St. Louis area, so again, I know ribs. These are juicy, fall-off-the-bone tender! Sauces are served on the side. They are good, but I like the meat flavor itself, so I generally don't use any. The turkey breast was tasty, probably the best I've had (given that most turkey is dry and overcooked). It was perfectly cooked, smokey, and moist (sorry if you hate that word, but it's apt in this case). If I had never tasted the other meats at Southern Junction, it would be a go-to for me, but in comparison to the other meats, it's down on the list, maybe #3. The sausage is also smokey, very good. In short, there is nothing on the menu that I don't like. Now, the ambiance. It's reminiscent of roadside barbecue places in Texas. There's nothing fancy about the decor. Seating is limited, hence the line. Ideally, people eat and leave, which frees up tables for incoming diners. There is also outside seating in warmer months. We've never had trouble getting a table before because you can also sit in the bar and order food. Anyway, I hope you eat at Southern Junction soon and get some of the best food Buffalo has to offer. We went on a Monday night and it was popping, I can only imagine it would be three times as busy on a weekend so plan accordingly! First: there are high chairs available, and only street parking. We have been looking forward to visiting ever since it opened. We finally got the chance to try brunch. We got the bacon foldie, brisket biscuit, and cinnamon roll, with a side of eggs. Everything was absolutely incredible. The flavor was unique and perfect. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth, and the tomato jam on the (delicious) biscuit was such a creative and flavorful surprise. The cinnamon roll was moist and flavorful and not too sweet. The foldie had different textures and varied but complementary flavors. Nothing was super spicy. The ambiance was very casual. The out-back BBQ and sitting area were very much like visiting a relative in the country with their own DIY setup. The service was extremely comfortable, sincere and friendly. There are no waiters/hosts. You order and get your food, then find a place to sit. You bus your own table. And I'm not throwing shade- this is actually a feature, not a bug. These things are what contribute to that visiting-relatives sort of atmosphere. We drove 30min to try this place and will 100% do it again. Who wouldn't want to come to a place that has been noticed by one of the culinary world's highest Honors. It was a brisk evening and when we arrived, the line was almost out the Door. I thought that it would take a few hours. Especially with my buddy Colin and his Girlfriend's dog Theo in tow. I never thought that we would make it inside when all of a sudden. Ryan F.'s girlfriend Lydia came up to us in Line and took us to the Back Patio, sat us down and took our orders right away. I wasn't gonna complain about how cool it was outside, neither was Colin. Especially with some Good Meat on the Way and some other Groups out back keeping us Company. For Drinks, Colin got himself a Peach High Noon while I got myself a Beer (Beer & BBQ pair good in my opinion). I picked Miller Life (the Champagne of Beers) to go with my Meal. Colin got himself Brisket with sides of Brisket Biriyani and Potato Salad. While I got the Texas Trinity, 3 Meats plus an Additional Meat. Nothing better than fall off the Bone Ribs that were glazed with Maple Syrup. Texas Hot Link Sausage that packed some Heat with every Bite, Brisket that was melt in your mouth Tender that broke apart with Ease. But my favorite Bite of the night was by far the Barba-Curry, tender Slow braised Beef Shoulder tossed with a housemade Garam Masala and Caramelized Onions. If that wasn't enough the Sides were plenty to as I had White Cheddar Mac & Cheese (minus the Cowboy Candy) and Cardamom Cornbread too. Even better was that they gave me all 3 BBQ Sauces, their housemade Hot Sauce, their Ancho Chile Sauce which had a subtle Smoky Flavor, but the one that blew me away was their Coconut Curry Sauce, both Sweet and Mild. They also had some Fresh Pickled Vegetables for some Acidic Bite. Surprisingly enough the only thing that I did not eat on my tray was the piece of White Bread they had for me. This guys are amazing, friendly, customer oriented. We got in late to Buffalo on a Sunday so missed them. Saw the schedule, had to get there Monday or we would not have that great BBQ until Thursday. We couldn't wait that long. My wife made me be the Door Dash person so I got there at 4:30, lucky not much of a line but the bar seating looked busy already. Got to the guy who cuts the meats, ribs, brisket and sausages. Got the sides, very typical bbq set up, but with the real bbq meats flavor. Simply put there's nothing like Southern Junction in BBQ world and that's what makes it so special. Ryan's approach applying cooking techniques from India to Texas style barbecue means flavors that are more pronounced than what you're used to and personally, I find it enhances the traditional. This is most evident with the brisket beans, cardamom cornbread, brisket biryani and the chicken bbq where Indian spices and cooking styles are applied to traditional bbq sides. If nothing else, you need to try the cardamom cornbread and chicken bbq. The venue is small inside but don't let that scare you off. Apparently there is outdoor seating but I didn't see it and they also serve brunch, which the menu looked just as amazing. I was so excited to finally try South Junction since I had heard so many good things about it. Walking in, you line up to order and can't snag a table until you get your food. This was a little challenging with our toddler and stroller. We came in around 4:15pm so there wasn't too much of a line. I decided to go with a one meat option of brisket and sides of Mac n cheese and the biryani. I also got to choose one sauce I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the biryani since it blended Indian and southern food! The same with the choice of sauces were so unique but still went well for dipping the brisket in. My husband got the 3 meat choices. I have not had much southern bbq so I am not quite sure if this is normal - but all of the dishes were room temperature and not warm since you could see they had been sitting out by the serving / ordering area. I would've liked the brisket, biryani and Mac n cheese too be warmer. It was almost like they just needed a quick warm up. Overall I enjoyed southern bbq although seating is a bit tough if you have little ones and would've liked the food to be warmer than room temperature. How was this not voted the best bbq joint in buffalo for 2024? The flavor of the rub on the meat is absolutely delicious. The brisket was tender and the biriyani rice was one of the best foods I've ever had. The combination of spices in the flavor of the rice is something everybody needs to experience once. The ribs were ok, not quite fall off the bone tender but it might've been the piece we got. The white cheddar Mac has a really really thick sauce consistency if you're into that. After experiencing all of the flavors from the delicious meal, the banana pudding was a let down/ nothing special. Service at the bar was excellent. My friends and I went to southern junction a few days ago and it was delicious! By the time we went (7 pm-ish Saturday), a lot of the popular meats had been sold out. But everything we tried was great, in particular the chicken, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. It was a bit of a wait (about 20 min) to get served and the cashier informed us they're now doing online order. It was too busy to find a table so we took it as takeout.
