This is the second New Year's Eve event we have attended at this venue. The previous year's live entertainment featured the Bellamy Brothers and this year it was Glen Templeton. Sadly Glen, although a good performer, did not bring it home. It lacked a true country feel and resonated a warm gospel tone , not fitting if a New Year's party. The venue itself is always great, nice ambiance and efficient service with reasonable pricing. Considering we fly from South Carolina for a Dallas Cowboy style New Year, we are disappointed that it did not hit the sweet spot as in the previous year. That said, a great venue and concept, well organised. We have not done the sit down meal and hope to add it to our 2026 repertoire. read more

You should've canceled the southern junction yesterday because the air conditioning wasn't working. People spent their hard-earned money and left due to the heat. It was unacceptable! Your promoter stayed outside, knowing how hot it was inside. This location is mostly open only 2 days a week, why would they continue to have air conditioning issues for the past several years. Advice to you...... cancel the event if your ac problem is not fixed. read more

Wow! I just had a very rude interaction on the phone with this business. I was in search of a place that could accommodate 30 people, but we do have minors (16 year olds). Their response was short, terse, and they let me know, "this is not the place for you!" When I inquired if they knew of another place that might fit the bill, the response was, "No, I stay busy enough with what I have going on." While I know we will never see this person I spoke with, it's still bad business and poor customer service. read more

I was a little worried seeing the bad reviews, but it seems like things have vastly improved. This is a super cool place! Very country. Good music. Good bbq! They teach you how to dance. PROS: We had a large group and they reserved tables for us. Atmosphere, lighting, and dance floor were great. Music wasn't too loud so we could actually talk to each other. Workers were nice and helpful. DJ was good and attentive, however they seemed to play a lot less country music after 11pm. This place is great for a large group, but eat before you come. CONS: We got there pretty early and started ordering BBQ around 7pm. They were already out of some meat items and were rationing the sides. Later as other friends arrived, more BBQ items were out and they man in charge was giving our friends a lot of attitude although it was he that was running out of food. BBQ was mediocre, tasted like it was cooked the day before and reheated. I wish they were serving steaks like the Royce City location. No servers at the tables, so we had to constantly go up and stand in line at the bar to get drinks. They only had the one large bar open with just two bartenders, so you sometimes had to wait in line for a while to be served. They even ran out of some liquor (ie, TX whiskey) pretty early in the evening too. Overall it was "meh". If we were not with a large group, we wouldn't have stayed as long as we did. Probably not come back to this location again since everything seemed to be running at the bare minimum. read more

This place is great!! I honestly don't know why there are any low ratings on here. My wife and I just went here this past weekend 9/7/2024 for some country dancing and we were not disappointed! We were from out of town and stumbled upon Southern Junction. They had a cover charge but I'm telling ya it was worth every penny. This place is big with a really nice large dance floor. It wasn't too crowded either. There was plenty of country couples dances, 2 step, double 2, etc....and just a few line dances. My wife and I are 45 and 50 years old. It was mostly an adult crowd. Not a lot of 21 year olds hanging out here. Nowadays it seems like a lot of country bars cater to the younger crowds starting at around 10pm. So if you're looking for non stop line dancing all night long, and like shoulder to shoulder crowds, and over crowded dance floors, well then this isn't your place. Otherwise like I said this place is awesome. Great dance floor, nice bars, clean, friendly atmosphere, and good country music!! We even met the owner Tony and what a great guy. I've had bad service before, but this takes the cake. 30 plus minutes to get a drink. Literally all of your customers are talking about it. What a rip off!!!!! Horrible isn't a bad enough way to describe the service and bartenders here. Update: after 1.5 hours waiting for a drink, and yes you read that correctly, we gave up. I ate here opening night. Not expecting everything to work smoothly on a grand opening night. Surprisingly the wait staff performed well. But I went out on a limb and ordered the brisket. And let me tell you. It was awful. First of all, there was a manager I believe that walked around talking to everyone that ordered it. And giving my honest opinion about it I was given a coupon for 50% off my next visit. If your not a high volume brisket shop you NO business selling it. You're going to turn a lot of customers off if they order it. You've exposed a couple of things about you. 1 you don't know anything about running your business 2 you love wasting money And as a result you will close your doors soon. On opening night you should have run over to Springcreek BBQ to get their briskets and learn what real brisket taste like. I wish then well. But you're either a BBQ shop or a bar. read more

Go for dancing, not for food The dancing was a lot of fun. The instructors were very friendly and made the dances easy to learn.  This was the worst food experience I've had in years. My wife and I were part of a group of 20 celebrating a friend's birthday. The venue can probably seat 1000 people comfortably but there only a total of 30 people their the evening we went.  I mention that because there was 1 waitress that covered our party. She was nice & polite but couldn't remember what people ordered and no other staff helped her.  The worst part was that my wife and ordered at the same time and she wrote the order down on the same ticket. Burger, fries, chicken sandwich and side salad. My burger and fries came with all the other orders. 10 minutes went by and we asked about the half of our order and the waitress said they were making it and it was almost ready.  Another 10 minutes went by and the waitress told us the same thing.  My wife's chicken sandwich finally came out 30 minutes after my order came. The waitress said that the each of the cooks thought that the other cook was taking care of it. 5 minutes later we asked about the side salad. She said she forgot who ordered it.  There is no excuse for this.  There others in the group that had a similar experience. read more

On Valentine's Day evening I went to Southern Junction in Irving to celebrate with my Christian singles Facebook group. There were more than 200 of us plus many others from other groups. It was apparent the manager did not have enough employees on duty to reasonably accommodate such a large group. We had to stand in long lines in one area to pay, and get food. For drinks we had to go to the bar and stand in one of two more long lines. There were only two bartenders taking drink orders, taking payments, and preparing/fetching drinks. There were two male employees each carrying mag lights. One stood by the entrance from the lobby to the main area. The other walked around in the main area. The man walking in the main area bullied, threatened, and emotionally raped, me. I estimate he is about 6'4", and weighs about 280 lbs. He's obviously a body builder in his mid to late 40s. I'm 5'5", almost 69 years old, and I have severe arthritis in my left hip. Sometimes I have trouble walking. Awhile after drinking 2 glasses of ice tea, my throat was dry, and I wanted some water. I asked the big guy about getting me some water, and he said I had to get in line. I said I had already been in that line twice. He said "Those people are paying." I said "I already paid." He said "I don't want to hear it." The big guy came walking by me again. I told him he needed to be more customer service oriented. He said "You give me ten dollars right now, and I'll get you some water." I said "It would be wrong to pay that just for water." Then I said again "You need to be more customer service oriented." Then he got extremely angry with me, and said "I want you to leave right now." I said "I'll leave." I set my plastic cup on the bar, and started to walk toward the exit. This bully wasn't satisfied with just letting me freely walk. He kept towering over me from behind, and I was afraid he was going to assault me from behind. I thought if I'm going to get beat up I want to see it coming. So I turned to face him, and I started walking backwards. Then, he kept putting his chest in my face as if to bate me into putting my hands on him to push him away. I kept walking backwards trying to maintain space between us. After walking backwards about 30 feet I said "You're bullying me." He didn't respond. As we proceeded past the other guy, and entered the lobby area I said again "You're bullying me." He said "If you don't get out of here right now you're going to be leaving in a black and white." Then we passed the two ladies that were working in the lobby. We both stopped. I asked "What's your name?" He stuck his right index finger in front of my nose and said "It's Drew D R E W. You make sure you get this. Conatser C O N A T S E R." I said "My name is Dave Shamass." Then I turned, walked to the exit, and left the building. As I walked away he told the two ladies "Don't let him back in here." I was quite shaken by what happened. I got in my car and drove to a gas station a couple miles away. I called Southern Junction, Irving. My call forwarded to the manager, but he was at their Royce City location. I told him what happened. He, Tony, apologized. He also said when he got to the Irving location, he would talk to him (Conatser). I told Tony that if he's going to be there soon I would drive back, and the three of us could talk. He said he wouldn't be there for another hour. As I continued driving home, I decided to call back to share a few more details. My call went to voicemail, and I didn't leave a message. On Saturday, February 15th, I called again, and no one answered. This time I left a message stating I wanted to talk to a manager about what happened Friday night. No one returned my call. I googled and found the owner's name, and work number in Royce City. Monday morning I called, and a lady answered. I asked to speak to Charles Houk. She said he was out all week. I told her I wanted to discuss an incident that happened at Southern Junction in Irving. She said she would give him a message. I gave her my name and number. Mr. Houk never returned my call. Since then I've consulted with an attorney, the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission TABC), and the Irving Police department. The TABC is assigning an agent to investigate Southern Junction, Irving. The BBB person instructed me on how to file a complaint. In summary Mr. Conatser walked around the area, and he could have easily assisted the overwhelmed bartenders. I googled his name and found that his job is food service. He was trying to insight me to engage him physically. Someone in his position should be objective, and stable, and should seek ways to deescalate conflict - not try to escalate it. I'm old, I don't drink alcohol, and when under duress, I remained calm, and I didn't take the bait. I'm concerned that a young man that had been drinking might not have been able to restrain himself. Mr. Conatser's behavior can damage the innocence of a young man. read more

I visited the Irving location of Southern Junction, which is new to the area, on Thursday evening recently Dec. 2017. The owners/investors spent a bunch of money inside as it is very well done. It is a spacious layout with a western theme of an old western town. I was one of about 8 people in the joint. I stood at the bar in the center of the room, along with one other person. I ordered nachos, as I just needed something on my stomach, since I was drinking. I do not recommend the nachos. Chips, squeeze cheese, jalapenos and plain hamburger. Very bland. You can get sour cream with the nachos, but it really would not have added anything. This is all I had, so please don't assume the rest of the food is as bad. It is a steak house. Now, the employees were excellent. Tammy the hostess with the mostess was so sweet and kind at the door. The bartenders, Brandon and Max were exceptional. I wish I could say the same for the purported owner Tara. I was attempting to order from Brandon and she storms in and demands of Brandon to know where is "so and so " person. Brandon, being the young gentleman he is, looks directly at Tara and says, I'm taking this lady's order" and continues his focus on me. An "I'm sorry" announced to the air is all I get. About 3 mins. later, she storms up again demanding to know where "so and so" person is, again butting rudely in to the conversation I am having with Brandon. No apology this time. A few minutes later she is chatting it up with the male customer several chairs down the bar. He was also drinking and eating just as I was. My point is, I was patronizing the place, spending money, never once got an acknowledgement of patronizing the place, but sure got rude interruptions in my conversation with Brandon. Overall its a cool place. The band Keith Mitchell was quite good. I hope this place flies. It's relatively close to me and could be a cool place to go. My 3 stars only reflects the employees location and the interior and layout of the building. read more

Bar service was absolutely terrible. We tried to buy two buckets of beer for a group of 6 people, but could never get a bartender to acknowledge any of us. Finally a bar helper who was cleaning helped out after about a 20 minute wait. On the second go around trying to get another bucket we asked a waitress if she could get it for us and handed her a tip.... 40 minutes(literally) later no drinks and the concert was almost over. We asked the manager about it or even getting refunded so we could leave we get blown off by him. Finally after finding the waitress and asking 3 more times for our money back we were able to leave this place. Sadly if this bar was in any other place than it is currently I'm sure it would already be closed. This place needs John Taffer from bar rescue and a lot more bartenders that can pour drinks faster than the display they had tonight. read more

Well I can tell you that when it first opened I was worried it wouldn't be open long but... Wow the bugs have been worked out and everything is great.... They have the best Burger I have ever tasted... and the people are so so friendly. Our waitress, Kenya, I believe that was her name, took care if us great all night long. The Band was amazing... the fiddle player was awesome and the lead singer is a great entertainer... he came off stage and sang to the crowd... he even got my wife to sing with him.. This was my husband and I first time at Southern Junction. We got there around 8:00 and got seated right away at a table. It took the waitress about 20 minutes to take our order. When she did, she said that she needed a credit card or debit card to hold if we wanted to start a tab. We said we were going to pay cash but she insisted that she needed a card to hold. We think it is because people walk off because of the horrible service. When we got our food my husband didn't have the cheese on his bacon cheeseburger he ordered and I didn't get a chance to ask her if I can get sauce with my chicken strips because she handed our food to us and took off quick. We didn't dare to wait and ask her anything else but the check. The house band that was playing sounded pretty good. So if you just want to dance and have drinks at the bar, that is the best option. Trying to have a meal there in the evening would be a disaster. read more

I would give this place zero stars if it were an option. I attended the BlackHawk concert on 6/15/18. Door staff and waitress were very accommodating and the only positive things that I experienced about this place. We ordered 2 sirloin steak dinners upon arrival. Salad came out very quickly, however, our steak did not arrive until 2 hours later. Our waitress kept asking the cooks about it and were told that they were waiting for coals to heat up? Really? About an hour and a half into our wait, I asked the GM about this and was pretty upset by this time. He was immediately dismissive to me and told me they were working on it. I told him I have been waiting for 2 hours. He then corrected me that it really had only been an hour and a half. Really??? That is very unprofessional. Our steaks did arrive about 20 minutes later, but one was raw and the other was burned. Also, there were two empty bottles of A-1 sauce delivered with them. Really? I had had enough at this time and found my waitress and asked to pay for the drinks and asked for the steaks to be removed from my bill. She found the GM and he agreed to remove, but did not have the professionalism to come out and apologize to us. I would not recommend this place to anyone at all. read more

My wife and I went tonight to try this place out. Ordered 2 $10.95 burgers and an order of fries with a couple of drinks. We got there around 7:30 this evening and the place was not busy. After waiting for 45 minutes. I got up to find our waitress to find out where our burgers were. A few minutes later the manager came over to apologize for it taking so long and that our burgers would be right out. Thirty minutes after that he came back by to tell us that he had to grind the meat for the burgers and they should be out in the next 10 to 15 minutes. So after waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes. The meat for our burgers supposedly made it onto the grill. After waiting another 20 minutes nothing showed up. I got up, found the manager and told him to forget it after the people who sat down at the table in back of us 30 - 45 minutes after we got there, got their burgers before we did after sitting there for over an hour and a half we left! I would NOT recommend this place unless you want to wait 2 hours to get your food. read more
