Amazing!! Today was my first time eating here and they took my whole family by surprise. We did have to wait to be seated about 15 minutes but we were a large party. The Southern Kitchen is a long standing home away from home for me. Though I now live in Los Angeles, whenever I head home to South Florida, this is a Restaurant I have to visit. The owner Kim is usually there, and along with the manager Mark, they are friendly and always helpful. Now to the food, tasty tasty tasty! Easily some of the best burgers in Florida. Juicy, tender, flavorful and big! The diner fare is top notch, with plenty of the same styled items you might find at a Denny's or IHOP but with quality that will impress you! This was my third try at breakfast and each time has been decent or better. My first time included a classic meal with eggs and hash browns and pancakes and they were really good. My favorite pancakes are the Oat and Banana Pancakes which were a special one morning were absolutely delicious. They might be my favorite pancakes I've ever had. The coffee isn't good but it isn't the worst diner coffee I have ever had. Order it at your own peril. My particular meal this morning was great and on a weekday morning the place had plenty of space at the counter for individual diners. Service was fast and I was able to get my meal in a swift and expedient manner. My hash browns were really good. They were crispy on top and cheesy and delicious underneath. I did have to ask for Tabasco and I didn't know if I should wait for my own waitress or just ask someone passing by which is what I am actually decided to do. It seems like the workload is shared pretty evenly so don't be afraid to ask anybody for anything. For less than $8.00, I am willing to fork out four stars. :) read more

Yelpers led us to Southern Kitchen as we were in the vicinity. Southern Kitchen is one of those little, local places that welcome you as soon as you step in the door. Even though it was New Year's Day and busy, we were seated in less than 10 minutes. Servers were friendly and quick. Typical diner fare served here. Our food was pretty good except that my grilled chicken breast was only lukewarm. My husband enjoyed the fish and chips. Will be back if we're in the area. read more

Great spot! Came on Fathers Day! This place reminds me of the mom and pop shops from up North that I used to go to all the time. The menu is not huge which to me means that they are good and what they do. Having a huge menu always makes me question the quality of the food and how long the ingredients have been sitting at the restaurant. My wife and I seated our self and were greeted immediately. Order some coffee and a water and then checked out the menu. My wife orders the Biscuits and Gravy, side of hashbrowns, and a side of eggs, while I dove in and ordered the western skillet with sausage instead of ham. Before you know it we started working on the word search on the table mat and within 10 mins are food was sitting in front of us hot and steamy! The waitress addressed all our needs and our drinks never went dry. As for the price! Expect to spend 5-10 dollars a person depending on what you get. Love this greasy spoon dive. Never underestimate breakfast spots in a strip mall. They do all the breakfast basics and they do them well. It was awkward and the management did not handle it well at all. Great biscuits, bacon was perfectly crispy not chewy. Ordered medium eggs and they were under cooked. Waitress knew as I touched them and ran it back to the kitchen immediately for me. I have frequented Southern Kitchen in the past for lunch but decided to try breakfast today and was unpleasantly surprised. I have allergies to eggs, and eggs are a primary item on most of their breakfast entree's and no substitution for eggs. However, you're still being charged the full entree price even though you're not getting them. Go figure! Therefore...if you have an allergy to certain types of food on their menu, DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO SUBSTITUTE IT FOR SOMETHING ELSE DUE TO MEDICAL REASONS. Just go somewhere else. I will not dine-in again for breakfast. My medical condition may not apply to the next diner but if it does, here's your notice. Overall their food is good, but this is an issue regarding CUSTOMER SATISFACTION rather than quality of food. I have never had a dining experience where a restaurant was inflexible with a reasonable request to substitute eggs for hash browns. I'm disappointed needless to say.. read more

I dined here on 8/16/16 with my sister and niece. We arrived around midday - the restaurant was pretty full and we were still seated fairly quickly. When I ordered fish and grits, I knew it would take just short of forever for my meal to arrive - not so. It couldn't have taken more than twenty minutes for everyone at the table to be served their meal. On top of that, they have the best fried fish and grits I've ever had at a restaurant. Sunday Morning. . .after a night of Salsa Dancing. . .possibly hungover. Actually, it was the only thing I did until about 4pm that day. Was originally thinking IHOP, but when I tried to get in - all by my lonesome - it looked like a no-go from the start. A quick google and Yelp for "breakfast restaurant", and Southern Kitchen is just down the street! I sat at the bar, and the waitress there was a bit. . .lost. . .But I got in my order: coffee, one egg + biscuits and gravy, a side of bacon. I didn't notice the special's menu, with steak and eggs (I looked for a specials board and didn't find one - then realized it was on one of those tri-fold boards on the bar), but I'll know where to find it next. The biscuit was a little lost in the gravy. The eggs were well cooked. The coffee...diner coffee. I know, I know. Not really the type of food to base a rating on (seriously, I'm rating eggs over medium and biscuits and gravy). About half of the gravy was left on the plate when I was done. So the food was okay, the service was okay, but the ambience was cool. I felt like I was in a diner, so I liked it. I will probably come in again, and will try something new (like the steak and eggs), so I'm giving it the Big 3! read more
