I really wish we could do half stars. I would give this 4.5 stars. A coworker and I went here for lunch one day. Looking at the place, I was expecting to have to make sure my shoes were on so I didn't get poked with a needle in the foot on the way in. Once I got inside, I made sure to check my shoes again and schedule an appointment for a hep C test. On the positive side, the food was DELICIOUS! I had a chicken breast bacon cheese sandwich thing that was the size of both hands put together. The fries looked frozen, but who cares when you get a whole chicken on a plate for $8. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the cheese covered it like it was a blanket and the chicken was cold from being in Fairbanks all week. Needed a brunch spot after church. Southern Kitchen was an excellent choice!!! It was quite busy, but well organized and we were seated within 10 minutes. We had a mix of breakfast and lunch dishes. All were well prepared and tasty. There is a family atmosphere in this restaurant. The servers were very friendly and the manager was engaged in assisting and mingling with customers. Didn't love the pancakes and the hashbrowns were a little underdone. However, the service was great and love the southern hospitality.

So, a caveat - after searching "fried chicken" on Yelp I came here in search of classic fried chicken and discovered they do NOT have it on the menu, instead it's a fried chicken breast. Nevertheless I decided to stay the course and ordered this as the only fried chicken plate option on the menu (although it also comes in a salad and as a sandwich). And, to my surprise, it was *excellent* - crispy, juicy, hot not warm, with crispy fries and a side of applesauce substituted for the default peas. The cornbread was pretty good too. If all white meat chicken was cooked this way, I'd be a convert from dark meat. In summary, if you're hoping for dark meat fried chicken don't come here, but the other options are at least as good if not better. read more

Usually an okay place for breakfast but my last visit made it the last place I will ever choose. The service was terrible and when I asked for my undercooked omelet to be recooked my server rolled her eyes and the food still came back undercooked. Gross. Never go again. read more

My family and I had breakfast here this morning and there was some type of bleach like cleaner in the grits! I told the waitress, who did nothing. So I spoke with the manager, who decided that taking 2 child sized beverages off my bill was the solution. I then go to cash out and the counter women argued with me about my experience. Never again! My wife and I visited this restaurant for breakfast before heading to the airport from our hotel. The restaurant is very clean and have a very friendly staff, each helping to make our visit very enjoyable. I had one of their 3 egg specials including bacon, sausage grits and gravy and biscuits. The eggs were cooked to perfection (over medium) and the individual items were very tasty. The portions are large, so make sure you are hungry. My wife had an egg southern sandwich which she also loved that came with hash browns. The hash browns were cooked Golden brown crispy which she also thought were terrific. If we lived closer we would definately be a regular. Even though it was packed on a Sunday we were seated within 10 mins. The entire staff was friendly and very polite. I've been craving Eggs Benedict for weeks and found this spot one morning while driving around. The eggs Benedict was amazing!!! I messed up and ordered the southern Benedict at first and they had no problem cooking me up what I really wanted. I felt so bad but they made me feel so comfortable aabout it after! I would definitely recommend this place. Food was so filling and the atmosphere was very home like. Felt like everybody knew eachother. My son also enjoyed his pancakes. The prices were also great! I came here early in the morning right at opening for a quick breakfast with my girlfriend we arrived at 6am only because we had to be somewhere early and we thought we would be the only people there at that time and we were not. Gross! Gross! Gross! Food was bland especially the home fries. Omelet was tolerable after adding salt and pepper. Pancakes were good. Coffee was horribly bitter. My daughter got her drink in a used cup with what appeared to be a chewed straw. Would have told the waitress but she looked like she was jonesing for a cigarette and had an attitude. The check also had no prices on it so you get a surprise when you go to pay and unless you remember the prices from the menu, you don't know if you're bill is accurate. I have been going to southern kitchen since I was very little. They have been around for years. They have since relocated but the great food and friendly service remains. My favorites for breakfast are the meat lovers omelet and the southern sandwich. Lunch is great too. Had breakfast there for the first time. Was pretty good. Didn't want anything heavy so just got a bacon egg and cheese mcmuffin with the potatoes. Was delicious I must say. Buddies got grits and stuff and, said that it was good also. Umm, I'm definitely going back. Typical breakfast cafe. Service was average at best. The soups were AMAZING fried chicken was ok no season in the breading. The country fried steak was pretty good. This place has been around a long time so it has it's usual local crowd. Don't get scared of the neighborhood it is pretty descent. read more
