Located down near the waterfront on US 1, Southern Kitchen draws a lot of boat people, who you can spot at the counter from the type of weathered, deep tan you can only get being out on the water all the time. Southern Kitchen is old Florida, the kind of no-frills place you can get a huge breakfast and coffee for around $10. This strip mall restaurant has been catering to Florida's nearly bottomless supply of functional alcoholics since 1971. You can tell from the healthy supply of Goody's Headache Powder and a sign up front advertising Bloody Mary's for $3.75. The service is friendly but wary, just like most Florida residents. When they find out you're local and cool, then you're family. Southern Kitchen is old school, right down to the box of mismatched coffee mugs. This is the place for breakfast when you've been partying on the boat all night. They pile on the comfort food while you get your Goody's on and a little hair of the dog. What an amazing mom and pop diner! We found this place on Yelp and couldn't be happier!!!! My boyfriend had steak (ribeye) and eggs and said it was a 7/10. I had the jersey omelette with a biscuit and I'd say it was a 8/10. The biscuit was the BEST homemade biscuit I've had in FL! This was our second visit and was even better than the first. If you're hungry, this is your stop. No frou-frou portions for you! I ordered the omelet special and biscuit and it was super delicious and hot! My husband had a "big" breakfast that filled a large platter. Be sure you get the bacon, it is some of the best I've tasted. My only criticism is the coffee. It could be stronger. I frequent this place often with my dad. It's our hangout spot. The people are super cool and friendly. We have always had good service and good food. There can be a little bit of a wait but it's pretty nice consider the location isn't very popular to drive through. I like their Popeyes omelette and their shrimp and grits. Cake is awesome too. And the biscuits I will keep coming back for sure. And ya the news is on but if y'all are really gonna be watching the news instead of enjoying time with your loved ones you have a problem lol. I tried this restaurant for brunch this morning(Sunday). There were a lot of people. There was a list to be seated if you wanted a table but if you were willing to sit at the countertops...there was open seating which is what we did. They had a lot of food options. They serve breakfast foods from 6-2pm and lunch from 11am onward. I decided to get one of the specials. The Turkey sausage, feta cheese, tomato and spinach omelet. It was delicious. I've been going to Southern Kitchen for over 15 years. I normally only eat breakfast there and being a creature of habit, I always get the same, two scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, toast and pancakes. Hands down these are the best home fries you will ever taste. They are spiced and cooked perfectly. The pancakes are always light and fluffy. They have an amazing pot roast lunch. Many of the staff members have been there as long as I've been going there. The staff is friendly and on top things. read more

True small town feel. If you go for pancakes, bring your own real maple syrup otherwise you get fake maple favored corn syrup. Butter in foil is hard as a rock. It's taken me a while to write this review because I really don't enjoy writing about negative experiences. BUT this one really took the cake. My husband and I were on our scooter headed to the local beach to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The breakfast place we wanted to try was not open, so we stopped into Southern Kitchen. My first red flag went up when ALL the TV stations were on FOX News. I decided not to judge and we sat at the bar. Our server was lovely and very polite. I did ask if they could just change the channel on the TV in front of our seats to CNN because we did not want to watch FOX News while having breakfast. She said she would ask the manager, but informed us the owner only likes that channel on the TV. I reminded her I didn't ask to change all the TVs, only that one. She went back to the office and asked the manager. Meanwhile, our food came and we started eating. The manager came out and was very aggressive and rude to us. In the middle of a bite, he came to the bar, put his hands on the table and said very rudely "We don't change the TV channel." I reminded him we were paying customers and while we were having breakfast would appreciate if we could watch a different channel. I asked him how he handles customers who do not want to watch FOX News? He said usually people who don't want to watch FOX News sit at the window and pointed to a totally different area in the restaurant. Basically saying that he segregated them to a different area. He was SO INCREDIBLY RUDE, I lost my appetite and my husband and I generously cash tipped our waitress (who was so embarrassed and not at all like the manager) and went to pay our bill and left. The food was mediocre at best and the manager was such an ignorant buffoon I will NEVER consider supporting an establishment that is so blatantly close minded and aggressive with their customers. read more

This restaurant hired someone, had them work all day and didn't pay them because they said they were "in training". Oh but they were nice enough to let them eat lunch - oh but they had to pay 50%. I will not support this type of a business and I will tell everyone I know not to support this business.
