...And unfortunately back to 2 stars. After four tries, it's just unfortunately way too inconsistent. I've tried them 4 times; 2 times have been really bad, 1 was okay and 1 was great. Those odds just aren't that great. This last time I ordered, which was today, the bread was so stale...I had to pull the sandwich from my mouth with entirely too much force to bite the bread apart. I flipped the sandwich over to try and eat it like that, I don't know why lol, I thought maybe it would help but the entire bottom piece of bread was so soaked in mayo it was completely soggy and disintegrating. The bacon also taste pretty cheap, not sure if it's freshly made or if it's just like the heat and serve bacon but it sorta tastes like that cheap heat and serve bacon. It's so unfortunate because the sandwich was nice looking but after looking back now, I can see how the bacon is just in a clump on one part of the sandwich. The tomato also wasn't ripe at all, it shouldn't have been used on the sandwich. read more

Southern Subs is a quaint little sub shop that is turning out very good custom subs. Went for lunch with a friend and was welcome as we came in. I really respect this kind of business culture. I requested a Philly cheese steak and they were able to accommodate. I asked for wiz on it but they didn't have any wiz so I settled for provolone. My friend got the Cuban and we shared he got half of my Philly and I got half of his Cuban. Both subs were very good and I would highly recommend giving Southern subs a try. The atmosphere is simple with some small tables. More of a takeout place than to sit in. read more

We've been past this place a bunch of times but never stopped in. Today we were starving, in the area, so we stopped by. The menu was posted on the wall with descriptions on each sandwich. The restaurant was bright and clean. A few tables but I got the idea this place was more of a takeaway restaurant and that's what we wanted to do anyway. I ordered the BBQ Pulled pork sandwich and my dining companion ordered the Italian sub. All I can say is we will be stopping here more often in the future. The pork was delicious and the BBQ sauce was very tasty. Lots of pork on a toasted brioche bun. My dining companion's sub had a good portion of meats and a nice contrast with the oil and vinegar sauce. You could tell the gentleman making the sandwiches took pride in his product. Did I mention the sandwiches are made fresh? My suggestion if you live in NFM is to head on over to Southern Subs and see for yourself. Hello foodies after reading some reviews there supose to make the best steak and cheese subs in North Fort Myers so that's all I needed to know to stop in and try one. Food 5/5 I ordered there steak and cheese and boy was it digger licking good , the reviews were bang on and this place lived up to its reputation. The bread was super soft , the beef oh that beef was so perfectly tender and juicey melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned with the right amount of fattiness. Covered in melted cheese with onions, mushrooms and green peppers a perfect blend on this incredible tasting cheese steak. Service 5/5 it's a small independent family run business .looked like husband and wife and the mother in there running the place super friendly and fast service. ​Wow! What a shocker! I'd never seen this little hole-in-the-wall Sub shop across Byshore Road from Walmart in North Fort Myers, and didn't think it looked like much from the outside. Boy, was I wrong! We went in and my son (as usual) ordered a Reuben sandwich. I asked the man working there what he would order if he came in? He told me the Philly Steak sandwich. I said OK, and was I ever glad! That was one of the best Phillies I've ever eaten! (well, half of it was. I could only eat half because it was so big! I'll eat the other half tomorrow! My son's Reuben, according to him, was big, messy and full of yummy Reuben flavor! He also told me his was the SMALL Reuben! Lol! The big one is even bigger...1/2 lb pastrami and 1/2 lb corned beef! I pity the person who tries to eat that much food in one sitting, although my son would love to try! If you haven't stopped in, do yourself a favor and get one of the best subs around. The sandwich is made with a local bakery partners hoagie rolls that are toasted before piling on shredded lettuce, tomatoes, thin red onion slices, garlic mayo, oil, pickles, provolone and all the Italian meats. Delicious. Gigantic (enough for someone who is ultra hungry or can be shared by 2). Great entrepreneur named Jamie who explained his home made process for curing meats, purveying the bread products etc. go check it out! Small seating area of 3-4 bistro tables for two. We stopped into Southern Subs on a whim after the recommendation of a friend and honestly I feel like we owe the tipster a cash reward, this place is FANTASTIC. Even after the area got blasted by hurricane ian, Southern Subs is open and firing up awesome sandwiches, it was a little hard to find due to signage missing from the storm but I'm so glad we did. My boyfriend ordered a mind-blowing Cuban that quite literally filled an entire to-go box. It was piled so high that other patrons in the store were gawking and making comments like "How are you even going to fit that in your mouth?" But the wildest part to me was yes it was a giant sandwich, yes you have to unhinge your jaw like an anaconda to get around it BUT the structural integrity of this sandwich would put any engineers work to shame. We handed it back and forth to each other to try it, and took big forceful bites and this work of art stayed in one piece! Personally I ordered a southern reuben and my only regret was not ordering a second one to have for lunch tomorrow as well! Delicious meat piled tall with sauerkraut and utter happiness, bread toasted to perfection, what more could a girl want?! We're already planning on coming back for round two! Southern Subs was a BIG disappointment. After reading reviews and looking at the pictures we spent all day looking forward to lunch at this place. And what a let down!!! We ordered two Reubens whose pictures online and in the store made our mouths water, But after the first bite we needed water to wash down the dry corned beef. The meat tasted frozen or old, we didn't taste very much sourcrout, the bread used was not Rye as described and one of our sandwiches was made with the heel end of the bread. Third time disappointed. I had the ultimate hoagie. Asked for mayo, oil and vinegar. Got mayo on one side, and I didn't ask for my roll to be grilled. This left a stronger flavor than what the meats and cheese could cover. I asked for lettuce, tomato, onions and green pepper. Tomatoes was fine. Barely detected the lettuce. Onion was not detectable at all, and when I searched for the green pepper, expecting rings, there were 5 little diced pieces. There was also no oil and vinegar as requested. Unless they use tasteless oil instead of good olive oil and hardly any of it and water down the vinegar. These are not cheap sandwiches, so I don't understand why they go so cheap on the toppings. Don't grill the bread unless you ask. I thought bread was supposed to be crusty, which would have offered some contrast for this sandwich lacking in the crunchy veggies, but it was all soft and no flavor. read more

Only seems to be one size sub offered a 8 inch. So $10 for a 8 inch subs seems high. I got the Spicy Italian. Nothing spicy about it. It was good though. The owner was nice enough. With rising food prices it's hard to gauge value but I know I can still finder better prices for the size of the sub. Yelp's 15% off would not load so that's yelps problem. read more

I've been eyeing this place since I moved NFM. I've never seen a crowd of people there, so I kept on driving. Today, I had the craving for a cheese steak sub. I arrived around 7pm and out the door by 7:15. Friendly service, WITH a smile. The aroma in the car had me jacked-just hoping it wasn't a tease! It did NOT disappoint! The bread was SO soft, the steak was cooked to perfection, and my toppings were right on point! I'm pretty sure I haven't had cheese steak this perfect, since I moved from Maryland, honestly! Advertised as "Best Rubens" and I love any sort. Nice sign out front but super dinghy bare decor and stools inside. Very small set up with what looks like a portable flat top. No ventilation at all. I had to walk outside the smoke was not filtering anywhere and it took almost 18 mins for one Cuban and one Reuben. $26!!! No drink no fries not even chips. One pickle for the Cuban. They pressed the Cuban with the paper melted to it.... Why? Rueben was sloppy, too greasy, didn't even cut the monster in half and the thousand island dressing was sour and a soupy drippy mess. Yes it was 1/4 pound fresh sliced roast beef and corned beef but most was from the black charred end piece. If they maybe had a decent side dish like fresh fries or spuds but dang. This is the second time I've treated myself to the club sandwich. The first time I went in, a girl came in right after me who had gotten I think the Italian sandwich? She said it melted in her mouth. As I was walking out to my car with my sandwich, I passed her eating hers in her car, and thought, 'man she isn't waiting one minute to eat that thing.' I drove back to my house and unpacked my sandwich. It was HUGE!! Like, triple layer sandwich. I wasn't expecting that at all!! And then I bit into it and it was fresh, creative, made with what tasted like love- it was delicious. The owner was very kind as well and gave me a discount on my lemonade (which was like a lemonade tea- it wasn't either- it was both and neither at the same time- like the best parts of lemonade with the best parts of tea- literally the most refreshing beverage ever; it was original and authentic and wonderful) and was super accommodating. This business is putting in the effort and coming up with the best sandwiches ever. I mean, what are your other options in the area? Fast food? GO TO SOUTHERN SUBS. It's worth it. It's wonderful.
