Southern Subs is a quaint little sub shop that is turning out very good custom subs. Went for lunch with a friend and was welcome as we came in. I really respect this kind of business culture. I requested a Philly cheese steak and they were able to accommodate. I asked for wiz on it but they didn't have any wiz so I settled for provolone. My friend got the Cuban and we shared he got half of my Philly and I got half of his Cuban. Both subs were very good and I would highly recommend giving Southern subs a try. The atmosphere is simple with some small tables. More of a takeout place than to sit in.

Hello foodies after reading some reviews there supose to make the best steak and cheese subs in North Fort Myers so that's all I needed to know to stop in and try one. Food 5/5 I ordered there steak and cheese and boy was it digger licking good , the reviews were bang on and this place lived up to its reputation. The bread was super soft , the beef oh that beef was so perfectly tender and juicey melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned with the right amount of fattiness. Covered in melted cheese with onions, mushrooms and green peppers a perfect blend on this incredible tasting cheese steak. Service 5/5 it's a small independent family run business .looked like husband and wife and the mother in there running the place super friendly and fast service. The ambiance is a takeout place and was under renovation at the time I went but nice ...plenty of parking and easy to find check them out you wont be disaeponted

    Small Reuben sandwich

Wow! What a shocker! I'd never seen this little hole-in-the-wall Sub shop across Byshore Road from Walmart in North Fort Myers, and didn't think it looked like much from the outside. Boy, was I wrong! We went in and my son (as usual) ordered a Reuben sandwich. I asked the man working there what he would order if he came in? He told me the Philly Steak sandwich. I said OK, and was I ever glad! That was one of the best Phillies I've ever eaten! (well, half of it was. I could only eat half because it was so big! I'll eat the other half tomorrow! My son's Reuben, according to him, was big, messy and full of yummy Reuben flavor! He also told me his was the SMALL Reuben! Lol! The big one is even bigger...1/2 lb pastrami and 1/2 lb corned beef! I pity the person who tries to eat that much food in one sitting, although my son would love to try! If you haven't stopped in, do yourself a favor and get one of the best subs around. He has a rule that you get a free chips and canned soda if you write your first review. It doesn't have to be a good one, just honest. Don't worry. If my first trip in is any indication, yours will be as good as mine!

I had the appetizers because I wasn't my usual hungry. I had the wings with sweet Thai Chili and onion rings and a half sweet and half unsweetened iced tea. The service was amazing even though the place was totally packed. The wings were big and totally delicious, the onion rings were just how I like them, battered and absolutely delicious. My drink was done perfectly. The ambience was definitely inviting, it made me feel as I had just come home for dinner with a very unique family that welcomed us like family. My waitress Mary, was very good despite the fact that it was her first night, if she wasn't sure of something she would quietly ask Rachel, who is the new owner and she would tell her very nicely, just like she was family too. If you haven't stopped here yet, please treat yourself to a great meal and great place to go. They also have wine and beer. I can't wait to go back and enjoy a family style meal and maybe even some homemade soup. The specials looked really good, the next time I go back I will definitely try a full meal and probably even a glass of wine. My husband had the Chicken Finger Basket and said. They were delicious..

We were told the food is excellent and that the owner/chef has a Michelin-level background, so we had to check it out -- and it did not disappoint. Inside, it has that classic old-school diner feel -- simple, nostalgic, comfortable, and real. Not fancy or super elegant, but warm and full of character. It feels like one of those places where people come for real food, good conversation, and that hometown diner atmosphere. I had an incredible omelette with rye bread and potatoes, and we shared the biscuits and gravy... BEST we've ever had. Truly. My husband had the French toast and loved it. And you have to try their hot sauce -- they actually make it in-house and you can even purchase it. So delicious and full of flavor. We came about 45 minutes before closing, but we were told mornings get very busy -- especially Sundays -- and sometimes there's a wait. Now I understand why. We had a chance to meet the owner Brian, and our server Randy -- both amazing people. Friendly, welcoming, and you can feel the passion there. The prices are great, the food is absolutely delicious, and the experience was just one of those "wow" moments. If you've ever seen What About Bob? -- that "mmm... mmm... yum yum" feeling? The interior is not fancy, but it is thoughtfully laid out and has a classic barbecue feel. Our waitress was quick to bring drinks and take our order, which made the visit start smoothly. The menu offers a wide variety of barbecue meats, along with fish and simpler options like hamburgers and hot dogs. Overall, there is something to suit a broad range of tastes. What We Ordered: * 3 Baby Back Rib Dinners with Baked Potato, Corn, Coleslaw & Garlic Bread * Fish & Shrimp Combo with Baked Potato, Corn & Applesauce * Fish & Shrimp Combo with Sweet Potato, Corn, Coleslaw & Garlic Bead Food Quality: The baby back ribs were decent, but they seemed a little dry. Adding barbecue sauce helped quite a bit and improved the flavor. I was very disappointed with the fried shrimp included in the fish combo dinner. After removing the breading, I found that there was barely any shrimp inside. The baked potato was average in size and came with only a packet of sour cream and a few butter packets, so it felt fairly basic. The corn on the cob was half a portion but was okay. The coleslaw had a slight bite to it, but it was also only average. Overall, nothing really stood out or delivered a strong flavor. I must give the Smoke'n Pit Bar-B-Que a 3 out of 5 stars. The outside dining area has a stage with music most nights starting around 4pm. When we arrived the place was not busy at all and we found an empty table right away about halfway to the stage so the music would not be too loud. Our waiter was Joey and he took our drink order fast. Once he came back with our drinks he took our food order immediately. I ordered the blacken chicken sandwich which I had a couple times so I know it's good. The wife ordered a salad and a blackened chicken sandwich. We sat for just a few minutes listening to the music and our order came out in very reasonable time. My chicken sandwich was very good and flavorful with blackened spices, onions, tomatoes and lettuce to top it off. Our waiter did ask if we wanted cheese but we said no to that. The wife had never eaten anything blackened as she was afraid she would not like it. Once she bit into this sandwich she just loved it. She stated just as I have in the past it's one of the best chicken sandwiches she ever had. Our french fries were seasoned and usual there and were very good. One thing that I always say is it's the little things a restaurant doesn't do that separates them for great restaurants. My wife called Joey over and asked him if he forgot her salad and he looked surprised and said I'll be right back. He brought the salad right out and apologized but somehow he did forget it. Joey kept our drinks filled and did check on us a couple times. One other thing I will mention is that the outside chairs are very uncomfortable and you should take a cushion along to sit on them for the duration of your meal. All in all this place offers good food and good music. There is a great vibe there once the music starts. I will add I stopped by there on a Friday when they had all you can eat fish a couple months back and the fish was very good. They were not stingy at all with the 2nd helping of fish either. Both portions covered the plate and I bet you can't eat more than 2 servings because of the large size they give you. So if you're hungry for all you can eat fish or the blackened chicken sandwich go ahead and order them you will not be sorry. This place is open Tues to Sat 11-8 Sun to Mon 11-7. The outside restaurant is called Tommy's and the inside is called Southern Grill but I believe the menu is about the same for both.
