We frequently go to Southgate Grill. Tonight we went about 6:45. There were plenty of empty tables and the hostess said the kitchen was backed up. We asked to be seated and said we would have a drink while we waited. She insisted she couldn't seat us at one of the many empty tables. We left. read more

This restaurant is awesome! We have a place in the Pines and are so glad to have found this spot. The food is excellent, great portions, and the staff is so friendly. Beware!!!!!!This restaurant has the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. We purchased a large gift card over the phone to be sent a half mile away to my in laws. The gift card was never sent and they charged us for the purchase. No one has any answers and the owner refuses to call us back! Awful!!!!!!! Beware. Guess the owner is fine to take my money but not fine to explain why the gift card wasn't sent or offer an apology or a refund. I have never experienced anything like this!! Disgusted. read more

Really like the food and the service (the service is stellar!), but the music is just. Too. Loud. Even eating outside on the porch on the front of the building (nowhere near the bar), the music is so loud my table mates could not hear one another. The menu is weird and boring and very limited. The food is average at best. The place is full of old people has a very sleepy mood. Nothing but domestic beers. They have a nice outdoor bar but you have to tolerate the crappy menu and the average food to enjoy a nice summer day on the deck. Customer service in the restaurant industry is vital to staying open. My family asked for a table not in the bar section (the rest of the restaurant was empty) and the older woman seating customers told me "we don't have room for you to change tables". She was horrible, absolutely horrible. Her and my waitress Actually verbally disagreed with me. Finally i forced a move with a new waitress (she was awesome). The food is great and so are the prices. Southgate grill is one of the places that I would go to eat at least once a week. There food is pretty good and the waiters and waitresses are always fast. I particularly enjoyed the hostess named Mckayla. She was smiling and showed us to our table very fast. The only reason I cannot give this restaurant a five stars is because of the steak. The steak was hard to chew and didn't taste much like the steak I've known. But that could just be the way they cook there medium rare steak. read more

Decided to stop here out and about because we couldn't decide where to eat. The menu looked great but quite honestly the food is very disappointing. To start off my boyfriend got a Tito's Collins for his drink and it was not made correctly then him and I got the surf and turf with crab cake. My steak was tasteless, and the crabcake even though I asked for it broiled came out pan fried, and it tasted like plastic. Both of our crabcakes tasted the same. The coleslaw was very bland it tasted like just mayo and cabbage, the broccoli was overcooked. Now I am a server and my boyfriend is the manager of another 4 star restaurant and we arent the type of people that complain but it was just awful. We couldn't even finish it. The service was okay as far as the server goes. Nothing against her. Now the man who seemed to be in charge at the time was behind the bar just chatting it up with other customers having a good old time drinking behind the bar. We gave the server some feedback about the food and told her that it was nothing against her but the cooks and the manager need to be notified that their food is terrible. And it looked like she was trying to tell the man in charge about it but he paid her no mind. Didnt even come to check on us. We asked for the check and took the food home with us since we paid for it to try and fix it up ourselves at home. On our way out we asked the host who the man behind the bar was, if he was the manager and he told us it was the manager's cousin that they had put on as an assistant manager. So there ya go...will most likely not come back but maybe just for drinks. read more

We decided to try this place because it was close by and wanted to go somewhere new. The building is physically beautiful. Nice and clean, lots of tables, lots of TV's, and a projector that was playing college basketball. It was St. Patrick's day so there were specials on green beer, corned beef and cabbage, and Sheppard's pie. My boyfriend and I started with steamed shrimp. They had no seasoning at all. He got a burger and said it was good. I got a southwestern salad and wasn't impressed. The crispy chicken was chicken tenders and the tortilla crisps were cheap chips. Friends and I went to the Southgate Grill on Wednesday which just happened to be $5 burger night. After reading the menu we decided to try a couple things. We had the Jambalaya (awesome!), the Cream of Crab soup and the Crab Dip to start. All were delicious. Then we did the "Build Your Own Burgers" along with a few beers. Everything came out timely and hot. The food and service were great. We are just so happy to have such a nice alternative here in the Pines for dinner and drinks. And... The bar is open until 2am every day...Yay! Chris the bartender was extremely personable and attentive. He added to the enjoyment of the evening with great service and friendly conversation. Definitely will be returning. Perfect addition to the Pines. Sure to be another local's favorite! read more

Great service at a difficult time for my family that included a 4 year and one year old. Arrived at the restaurant late after a bad storm hitting the O.C. area. The food here was mediocre or decent at best. I ordered a roast beef sandwich with mustard and lettuce with some cheese. It came with a side of Lays potato chips. Now don't get me wrong, I like lays as much as the next guy, but I'm not a fan of them in restaurants, where I like most people hope to have a plate of hot food. I've been to multiple restaurants where hot chips were served, and I was disappointed with this side. The sandwich was okay, Arby's quality at best. Now I like Arby's as much as the next guy, but I could go to Arby's and get the same thing for half the price and with a side of fries. We had a horrible experience here. They are totally not ready to be opened. The kitchen staff is inadequate to handle as many folks as they are taking. The waiter staff is completely understaffed. While we were waiting we heard 18 people had walked out. There are way too many other restaurants in Ocean City and West Ocean City that are ready and able to serve you. This is a great place and what a nice change from the other two previous places that tried to do business there. The food is great, is quite varied and within any range of any budget. Great $5 burger. Must also say that what added to the very pleasant experience was Chris the bartender who I first ran into at the bar on the deck outside. I came back another night when he worked at the inside bar just because of him. He has a great sense of humor but also is sensitive to people's requests for explanation of food and drinks. I have seen him stop and provide assistance or information to other staff who were having a problem with an order etc. The whole place appears to work together well. Also I saw Chris leave the bar area to personally thank both an older and younger couple for coming to Southgate and insuring they had a good experience. Chris and this place is great. Will be back for more and tell anyone visiting the area to go to Southgate for a great experience. Very nice change from the Ocean Boulevard places on the main drag of OC. read more
