Very poor customer service and experience. They are very hard to get hold of; barely answer the phone or emails. I tried to reschedule the appointment multiple times by calling, texting and emailing but without any response or consideration. I commuted from out of state to show up at the earliest time I could make it given the Boston protests happening that day. But, when I showed up late to my appointment, they didn't take me in and barely talked to me, which I understood. But also, they denied me a reschedule and I lost the money I've put in with Groupon ($130 if you must know). They do have a way to ruin your day for sure. I was asked to "pay again" to book a reschedule. Please beware before booking. Definitely "not relaxing" experience. read more

Horrible and unprofessional experience with customer service (Maria G.) in setting up the appointment and I'm so glad I did not schedule. I was interested in two particular spa treatments and as a first-time customer, I was looking forward to meeting Levina. I was told she is off until the end of March. I was then open to scheduling with someone else (Manuela). However, since I had never been there before, I did not feel comfortable with having everything pre-paid. Most businesses do not demand this of their clients. When I told Maria G. that I would rather pay after receiving the spa treatments, with a generous tip, she showed no flexibility and even less warmth. Upon looking deeper into reviews and feedback for this place, I am glad I did not ultimately come here, as business practices seem extremely shady, unprofessional, and honestly questionable. They also never pick up the phone and have an apparent reputation for being impolite to clients and falling short of their expectations. Please use caution. read more

My boyfriend booked the massage, mani, pedi, and facial special for us on Groupon. We thought we scored a great deal based off the positive reviews but unfortunately we had a bad experience. We felt rushed especially when this woman who we believe was the owner came in. She appeared annoyed and said something to the staff in her language. The staff became uptight and rushed through their tasks. My manicurist was sweet but did a poor job. She painted over my cuticles and the nail polish was streaky. It looked like a child did my manicure. I uploaded a photo of the manicure. My bf's nails were cut too low and he was cut twice during his manicure. My masseuse had a cold and was sniffling and coughing throughout the massage. The massage felt very rushed. The facial was pleasant however I was afraid the masseuse might cough in my face. read more

I went here and had a wonderful facial, however will not be returning because of the rude owner, Lavinia. I came with a $100 gift certificate, which they approved over the phone, and then when I went to pay after my service, they refused to take the gift certificate. I offered to call the company that issued the gift certificate during business hours and to put a hold on my credit card in the interim, and she would not do that. I offered to pay for the whole amount if they would issue me a $100 refund if I were able to get the gift certificate company to pay them the $100; she said "Maybe. Email me later." When it became clear that I would have to pay the entire charge that day, I asked to use the $20 off promotion for new customers and they agreed; only after my card was charged did the owner then tell me that then they would never give me the $100 back because I had used another offer. This spa was awful! They scheduled me for the wrong treatment. My deep pore facial was horrific. I get facials very frequently and I know the process that needs to be done. I was never exfoliated. Never steamed to open my pores. And they took my mask off with a wooden tongue depressor. Not to mention the lady got the face wash in my eyes. I spent a lot of money there. And when I told them that they scheduled me wrong they weren't going to do anything about it. I had scheduled a massage a body wrap and a facial. Now in normal spas you would be given a robe and sandals. As well as a locker to put your belongings in. However I had to change back into my clothes in between each service. With the oils all over me. How awful. I will never EVER come back. And will make sure to give a bad review on every site I can. read more

I first went to Southwest Day Spa in the spring. I was really impressed by their facials and body services. I got the body scrub and wrap, a CBD oil massage, and a facial; all of which were fantastic! I was impressed with how seamlessly they moved me from one service to another and their general hospitality. By the time I left, my whole body was relaxed and my skin was softer than it has been in ages. The owner also seems to be incredibly knowledgeable about different skin types and what specific services are needed for a person's specific skin type and current issues. This place is awful. I had a head to toe package. The message was ok. The Mani/ pedi was terrible. 8 of my fingers were nicked but my thumb was cute so badly it bleed for thirty minutes after I left the salon. Great massage. Toes and fingers are beautifully polished. All the ladies were friendly. Spa was clean and relaxing. Very affordable. My only negative is the pedicure and manicure chairs. The pedicure chair did have the ability to massage but would not decline or move backward/forward. That made sitting there during my pedicure less relaxing. I booked a full spa treatment for me and a friend, and it was THE BEST experience I have ever had in a spa. This place is absolutely cute, cozy and spotless clean. Our massage was unlike any massage I have had before since the masseuse was very experienced yet gentle and she knew exactly what to do to for back pain. Our facial was also very clean, thorough, and calming. I cannot describe how glowy my skin was after! Will definitely come back here for facial and massage. More hassle than it's worth My friend and I bought a Groupon for massage, facial, mani, and pedi. We should have read the fine print because it's only available to be used Monday-Thursday so she and I were struggling to find a day to go after work. What made our issue harder is that there is apparently one massage therapist and only one nail tech? So we find a day to go. I get my massage which is softer than I want. I asked for more pressure and it got a little harder but not much. The facial was ok. My skin burned from one peel, but afterwards my skin looked and felt the same. The nail tech started on my feet. She was polite and did a great job exfoliating. She also gave my nails (hands and feet) great shape. However, she cut my cuticles, and we both knew it. The polish, I don't know if it was old or if she layered on too much too fast. I could tell my toes weren't dry, and I don't have a separator on when we move carefully to the nail station so I messed up two toes. She redid them for me, but when putting on the clear coat, she messed them up again because the polish was so wet. She finished my manicure with similar issues on the hands. I've now been drying my toes for like 30 min. Sure enough, when I move to the second drying station, I mess up the same two toes. I don't care; I sit down and continue to dry. She does my friend's manicure while I dry. I have a bad feeling about my polish being set but I've been drying now for over an hour and it's winter and I have to put shoes on. Yup, messed up the toes again. I go on to dinner so it's now been an hour since my hands were done. Smudged those too. The polish I blame on the salon. They clearly have bad polishes or other top coats if I'm smudging everything after an hour of drying, but the nail tech I blame for the cut cuticles. I would never return here. Like many other reviewers, the first thing I noticed was how rude the staff was. The front desk receptionist gave me major attitude for simply wanted to keep my purse with me. I arrived early, but my massage started 15 minutes late. I could hear the staff talking about how they had forgotten to heat up my hot stones for the massage. Even though the massage started 15 minutes late and I paid for 80 minutes, it still ended early. The massage itself was okay but there was no music playing or anything and you can hear the street noise. Will not be going back and certainly don't recommend. read more

My husband and I got a couples massage here and the woman at the front desk was rude and combative. The experience was really uncomfortable and made us never want to go back. We had some gift certificates and first-time customer coupons, and from the beginning they were trying to convince us that we couldn't use our coupons (something about how it was the week of Valentine's day). Then they told us that because we were using coupons we couldn't get a couple's massage (nickle and diming us). Whatever. After the massage, she accused me of lying about getting a prenatal massage and of lying about being a first-time customer because my address from over a decade ago was in their system. I actually had to defend myself to this woman! Afterwards, when I said how put off I was by the interaction she just smirked, shrugged, and acted like she was annoyed by us. I was in Boston visiting friends from high school and we decided to have a mini spa day. We were definitely excited and this place was walking distance from a friends place. It was very very easy to miss and I walked right passed it the first time I looked for it. It's in a apartment building and you have to buzz in. If you're looking hard you'll find it. I will say that the place is clean, no chemical smells. The receptionist the day we came in to make an appointment wasn't the brightest bulb, but we were able to schedule appointments for four people a day ahead of time for multiple different treatments. I had a massage and a deluxe pedicure (foot massage w/paraffin wax treatment). The massage was AWESOME. One of the reasons they get 2 stars. Strong hands, silence and working on problem areas well is exactly what you want in a massage. The room was clean and very relaxing. The pedicure was less amazing. Was pretty awful actually. The foot massage was non-existent and they had to be told multiple times that it was included in the price. With paraffin wax treatments, I'm used to my own individual wax for single used. Here they have a large bucket that they dip multiple peoples feet in. I was not of fan of that part of the treatment. My friend received a facial and there seemed to be a lot of scarring as a result of the extractions. I've never had a facial, but isn't your skin supposed to look clean and refreshed after. That was not the case. Although I would never go back for a facial or pedicure, I would, when in town, go back for a massage. Also, the technicians (minus receptionist) were very friendly and nice women. This place would have gotten one star had it not been for an AWESOME massage and the ladies that work there. read more

I received a gift certificate to this spa for a hot stone massage and went in on a rainy saturday to redeem it. Overall, I was happy. The staff was nice and welcoming when I entered and offered me a drink of lemon water in the serenity room. There was maid service vacuuming and cleaning in the room so the serenity part went out the window. I was received on time for my appointment which is a big plus for me. The massage was great, very relaxing. Music was playing and the bed was warm, but the stones were too hott! She tried her best to cool them but it was still super uncomfortable for me so I decided to just suck it up and try to enjoy it. I would likely give this place another shot. read more

Terrible experience. I booked two massages over the phone, one for me and the other for my boyfriend. I got a call less than a week before my appointment asking if I could reschedule my appointment because they had overbooked for the day. I said ok and rescheduled. On the new date of the appointment, my partner and I arrived to an under construction office space, manned by only one woman at the front desk who happened to also be the masseuse. No other masseuse showed up for my partner's massage. The massage itself felt like I was just being lathered up by lotion the whole time. When I went to pay for the lotion session with SpaFinder gift cards, the woman told me that she did not know how to redeem those. She called her boss a few times and left voicemails. Finally her boss called back and told me over the phone and said that I could not get any money back for the gift cards (the massage was $80 and I had $100 in coupons). So I could either pay $100 in giftcards or $80 upfront in cash or debit card. My partner never got a massage, my massage felt more like being lotioned up for 40 minutes, and I had to overpay. The woman on the phone did offer to apply the $20 extra I paid and an additional $30 to another massage in the future but I do not plan on going back. read more

I agree this place is comfortable with a very welcoming atmosphere. I'm not sure where the name and accompanying decor came from as I believe it is a Russian family who owns and runs it. I got a facial and the owner (I forget her name - very sweet) was excellent at recommending treatments and products after - giving me samples and not being too pushy. I also tried the reflexology foot massage which was given by her husband (I think) - it was divine. I even snoozed a bit - when he was done he told me that was common and he encourages people to just relax and let go. I love it here! Totally relaxing on the inside, even if you are going for a Brazilian. In the past, they've even offered tea or water while you wait... but I guess I haven't been there early enough for that anymore haha. I like to go here for eyebrow waxing, which they do very well. Also, when you say just to clean up around the edges, that's exactly what they'll do. No surprises here. Last time I came here I actually womaned up and got a Brazilian, which was painful (of course) but I ended up being very happy with it. Unlike what a previous reviewer had said, I didn't find that there were many stragglers. The waxers here are very nice and friendly, but not overly chatty. Even during my Brazilian I felt totally comfortable and it wasn't awkward at all. Prices here are very reasonable for what you get- definitely a great value. read more

I've been here twice now for Brazilians and I'm happy (I paid $50 - they accept SpaFinder gift certificates too). I do NOT recommend getting your first wax here, however, because they use strips instead of hard wax and that's much more painful. If you're coming for follow-ups after 4 or 5 weeks and the hair is coming in thinner, the pain will be a LOT easier to take. The atmosphere is really nice, they have a lovely waiting room, receptionists are a little distracted but super nice. Levina did my first wax here and was extremely quick and efficient, i was worried her speed would have her sacrifice quality but it was truly the best Brazilian I've gotten - less than 10 minutes! Other places always leave hair even when they're up close to my crotch with a magnifying glass, I'm always confused how they can miss it when they are literally in between my legs. But anyway, great job Levina! Aline did a good job too, she took about 15-20 minutes and was thorough. She overwaxed a little bit in one area, and is a wee bit clumsy with the wax and baby powder, but I'm not very high maintenance. As long as the hair's out and there isn't wax left over I'm good. Most importantly, the rooms are very CLEAN, they don't double dip, and they give you lollipops! read more

I'm a big fan of Southwest Day Spa. Lavinia does one of the best eyebrow waxes I've ever had (not too thin, and relatively painless). I've found the manicures a bit hit or miss (had one of the thickest shellac manis of my life there), but the place is definitely clean and very peaceful. Today I went for an ear candling appointment with Chrys, which was amazing. Totally relaxing (a little disgusting when she showed me the results) but otherwise a great experience. I was a newbie, and she explained everything to me as she was doing it, but then let me rest during the process. They take online reservations, which is phenomenal, but only for 24+ hours away. If you want an appointment in the next 24 hours, you'll have to call, but you can still check the availability online. read more

A+++ for eyebrowing waxing, shaping, and friendly service. F - for the stuff they use to disinfect/calm the skin. I had an allergic reaction, and it caused my whole eyebrow area to puff up and turn red for an hour! I had to take an antihistamine and then ice my face to reduce the swelling. If I go back, I just have to tell them to use a different facial wash. And, I want to go back because the person who waxes eyebrows (there's only one) is really, really good. There's easy-enough (metered) parking. You have to be buzzed in from downstairs, kind of like someone's apartment building, which is a bit odd, but inside, it's a nice decor, and everyone is really friendly. read more

Upon walking in to Southwest, I was immediately greeted and welcomed into the establishment with a smile and an offer for refreshments. Most places, I find, have you sit around uncomfortably while you wait for your appointment, but here, they placed me in a very plush and warm waiting room. When it came time for my massage, I was put in a peaceful and private room. As someone who has long been suffering from back injuries since early teenhood, my expectations for a decent massage is fairly high. Yet I was presently surprised by the quality of the massage. In 50 minutes, my masseuse attacked areas of extreme tension and even got to areas that most masseuses ignore such as the arms, the hands, the wrists, and the feet. It was an extremely relaxing and relieving massage. Afterwards, they again offered me to enjoy refreshments and to relax after the massage. Although medical circumstances forced me to cancel, their massage club is a great deal. For those who suffer from sport's injuries or back injuries in general, we all know getting the proper care and treatment is expensive and hard to find. The monthly massage club they have is a fairly cost-efficient program if your insurance does not cover massages/therapy (most don't...). I highly recommend Southwest Day Spa. read more

I really like this place. It is not the most luxurious or decadent health/beauty spa I have ever visited, but it is perfect for a college student who can't splurge on extravagant retreats every month but who still wants to look good. It is easy to miss, hidden on Beacon St., and you have to call to be buzzed in. The decor is pleasant and the overall impression is of stepping into a secret, peaceful place in the middle of a noisy busy street. The receptionists have always been polite and friendly. The services I have received have all been very good - waxing, manicure, pedicure - quick but efficient. I have seen Lucy for all; she is very professional, nice but not overly friendly. After a stressful week, I was looking forward to a nice relaxing day at the spa. My mother called ahead to check if they take spa gift cards and the woman said yes. We got there and the woman said they don't take the spa card. We had a time restraint and we told the woman that and she said that we could still get spa treatment. It was rushed and uncomfortable. This is entirely about their front office, as I never got an actual appointment. I called and asked if they had availability for a specific day as I wanted to use their Groupon. The lady said she would call me back and let me know if they could move things around to get the appointment. She asked if they honored Groupon's price I would just pay them, which I said yes to. When I got the call back, saying they had an appointment, I told her that Groupon had a promotion for an extra 25% off, so I was just going to purchase the Groupon and bring it to the appointment. I was basically told that's not acceptable and they only made it work because they thought they were getting paid directly. When I asked why it mattered, she basically said because we have to pay Groupon then. I then asked if I had said I have a Groupon to begin with would they have even tried, and she basically said no. I told her to not worry about the appointment then. It's poor practice in my mind to advertise a Groupon deal but try to get people not to use it after they call. read more

Literally this is how I ended up getting my first brazilian wax here: I woke up one day and had the spontaneous, inexplicable, unrelenting NEED to get waxed. The compulsion consumed me but the general going rate for that kind of hair removal doesn't really fit in my nannying budget. I scoured yelp high and low to find the cheapest I could, but none of those places were available for my immediate gratification. Southwest, though busy, offered to squeeze me in essentially right then, so I hurried my way out of my apartment and hopped on the C line to St. Mary's Street. I arrived a little later then when they wanted (but exactly when I said I could get there) and Lucy took me back to a room immediately. She was very friendly, pleasant, professional. She was able to maintain the spa atmosphere, avoiding any sort of clinical feeling. She worked fairly quickly - I'm not sure if this is because she was pressed for time or is this is normal - waxing with strips (from my understanding this is the most popular but not the best/most gentle method), then tweezing (owwwwiee) some of the remaining. By the end, her next, actually-scheduled client had arrived and she definitely rushed through with me, hurrying myself and herself out of the room. It was quite jarring. I went out to pay my $50 to the nice, but Stepford-ish (particularly in the voice) receptionist girl. Upon later inspection, I was disappointed in how many stragglers there were, considering how long it felt like she was tweezing for. The fact that it is called "Southwest Day Spa" probably should have tipped me off, but still, I was startled to find that the spa is dessert and cactus themed. Probably because when I think of "spa" I think of relaxing beaches and calming whirlpools, not so much dry air and faux Navaho artifacts. But apparently, for no clear reasons, this is what they went with. Whatever, that's cool. But the theme, coupled with the facts the spa is awkwardly wedged into the lobby of an Allstone brownstone, makes the initial experience of going to Southwest Day spa just a little strange. I'm not faulting them for this - I mostly find it funny. And a little weird. I liked my eyebrow wax a lot, even though the technician didn't actually do what I asked. The results lasted for about 3-4 days, that's why they want you to do them so close together. I found this online and took a big chance. It was my friend's bachelorette weekend and so I took nine girls in tow to somewhere I'd never been. Risky, I know. I'm VERY glad I chose this spot. The managers were extremely attentive, calling to confirm everyone's services, were timely, and managed the schdeule so that the group as a whole started/stopped on the times they gave us in advance. They went above and beyond by shutting down the place just for us, let us bring champagne for the happy outing, and they even provided a tray of fruit and cheese for our party. So nice! The girls got a mix of facials, massages, pedicures, and manicures, and everyone seemed to be happy with the results. I'd go back here, and I am thankful to the managers here for making the afternoon relaxed and enjoyable for the whole gang of us. read more

With something that interested me on their services in the range of prices the card was for. So I went there to book it. The woman who booked the appointment apparently was the owner. Not very pleasant but since she was apparently in the middle of a manicure i thought that was the reason. The day of my appointment arrived and i was relieved she was not the one doing the mani-pedi i booked. The lady was very nice but I felt rushed. It was supposed to be with hot stones relaxing... I barely felt the stones even less relaxed! I asked for a gel manicure (since a regular one doesn't hold with me having 4 kids) and i was asked to add money for it. The experience was ok. I was at the Southwest Day Spa for the first time this past weekend and I am a huge fan! I surprised my boyfriend with a 50 minute Reflexology and treated myself to a 60 minute deep tissue massage. From the moment you walk in, you are happily greeted by Iris who has impeccable customer service! She makes you feel comfortable and right at home. I had my massage by Alie who was fantastic! I have chronic lower back soreness and a bruised shoulder from skiing which she focused primarily on during our hour. By the time I walked out of there, I was able to move my arm without pain and hadn't been able to do that for a few days. She worked out the stress and tension in my shoulders, massaged my head (loved) and even massaged my jaw! She has a liberal use of hot towels which was fantastic and really came in handy before working on my heck and shoulder. She let me choose between oil or lotion which might be standard practice but blew my mind b/c I can't remember ever having been given a choice. I choice the lotion and so glad I did b/c it smelled so delicous! Turns out it had chocolate in it. The next time I go back, I'm making sure I get Alie! My boyfriend had a 50 minute reflexology on his feet and while I didn't get the name of his masseuse, he said she did a great job! He fell asleep on the table twice! The spa is located very close to a Dinkin Donuts, a BOA ATM (for tipping!) and parking is readily available on a Saturday morning. I'd recommend this to anyone for a massage! read more

Roquel was incredible!!! Got my nails and toes done and it was the best mani pedi I have ever had! She was so sweet and helped me choose my colors which I enjoyed because I'm very indecisive. She made me and my friend feel at home and talked to us occasionally! It was a very friendly cute place that is really good at what they do! I have to say after reading all of the positive reviews I was very disappointed after coming here. I came here for a Swedish massage and mani pedi. First off, I was rushed into the massage room and once I was settled my massage lasted about 35 minutes. My appointment was for noon for a 50 minute massage and I left the room at 12:43. I factor in letting me get ready took maybe 5-7 minutes before she came back. Then afterwards they gave me a sheet to fill out since it was my first time there, and it was all the information the massage therapist needed to know before going in! If you're going to have people give medical information, make sure it's done before you begin the massage. After I got out the woman at the front said I was all set even though I still had a manicure and pedicure scheduled. I reminded her of that and she apologized and had me wait in the side room until they were ready for me. They forgot to tell me to get a polish first so when it was time the woman was annoyed I hadn't gotten a color yet. The color selection itself is also very bare. During my pedicure the woman SHARED THE TOOLS that the other woman had been using on the client next to me. They didn't even sanitize them before using them on my feet. They did my pedicure without gloves, and the woman at one point was using her finger nails to pick off some of the dead skin. They then began my manicure while I was getting my toes done and it was very cramped. Once my pedicure was done they gave me dirty old small flip flops to wear. Very gross. When I was finally at the manicure station the woman who was there asked if I had used a groupon. I told her that I didn't book it but I could ask my boyfriend if she'd like. She said sure just because when they have a combo mani pedi, massage and facial- I didn't have a facial and she seemed very confused. All around disorganized. Manuela did an awesome job with my pedicure and Amanda did great with my manicure. It's a relaxing spa experience and my only comment would be for them to work a bit more efficiently with the time for each client. I think it's better to make an appointment than to walk-in. I was a walk-in so I understand they did the best they could with their time but a normally 1.5 hour service lasted 3.5 hours, much longer than I was expecting and my service was interrupted to accommodate an incoming appointment. Overall, I would return but I'll be sure to make an appointment first. read more
