Fresh Orrechetta Pasta with Broccoli Rabe Pesto

Our first experience at this wonderfully, welcoming Bistro. Our server, Chelsea was very warm and kind. She was very informative of the menu and specials. She listened well to our questions and as I ordered my cocktail, she had it made exactly as I like it! The fresh bread was served on a nice board with three different accoutrements. We also enjoyed crispy Brussel sprouts. I ordered the pasta special; Orrechetta Pasta withBroccoli Rabe Pesto and it was lovely! My husband ordered the Wild Boar Tagalatelle Pasta. This dish was outstanding! My husband ordered the Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding topped with fresh vanilla bean ice cream. It was incredible! Our friend ordered the Sea Bass with Cauliflower Mash. Wonderful! We enjoyed the .5 star cuisine while being relaxed in this comfortable ambiance. We will return!

Just had a lovely anniversary dinner here last night which was our first time here. They recognized the anniversary throughout the meal and had lots of great NA options as well. We ordered the bread board, soup of the day, Caesar, rigatoni with meatball, and the asparagus ravioli. Our server Khaliyah let me get one vegetarian meatball and one regular (both delicious). The dessert was hazelnut brown butter torte. Everything was exceptional and we will be back very soon. Was a great selection to celebrate. Only wish they were open Sunday Mondays.

Went here for dinner and sat in the beautiful back room. Excellent service, bar drinks and food! Great meal for my birthday!

We stopped in after a date day at Longwood Gardens. Greeted at the door by the hostess. Had a reservation & seated promptly in the bar area. Our server was friendly. Their menu was pretty diverse with salads, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, and breakfast items since it was brunch time. I ordered their chicken salad sandwich which was great. I also requested fries instead of chips but they forgot that part. Hubby ordered a Moroccan lamb wrap which he liked. Negatives and reason I docked 2 stars - They forgot my fries, Their seasonal sangria was good but pricy at $16/glass. Not a fan of their credit card upcharge either. Drives me nuts when restaurants do this.

Came in last night to celebrate my 5 years anniversary with the boyfriend. We were seated by the hostess right away. It took a few minutes for our server to come to our table and asked if we wanted water. A few minutes later, she came with water to drop it off and left before taking any orders. A few more minutes went by, she came to get orders for our drinks. By then, we've already figured what we wanted for our entire meal. It was surely a busy night for a Tuesday but it doesn't excuse the fact that we were there for 2 1/2 hours for mediocre service and food. I wanted to rate this place 5 stars... I really do because it was highly recommended by a lot of my clients. The few things I enjoyed was the margherita pizza, watermelon crush cocktails, and the duck confit with fried rice. The crispy calamari was good but wasn't great. They tried too hard to make it different. Would've been perfectly fine with laying it on a bed of arugula and chipotle and garlic aioli sauce but they also added capers & pickled onions (which threw the flavors/texture off). The bolognese wasn't impressive either. The pasta was way undercooked. It tasted like school lunch. Even school lunch tastes better. The side dishes (such as the Brussels sprouts, potato latkes, and mushrooms) were too salty. No one asked us if we were celebrating anything. No one came by for dessert menus. It felt like we were playing the waiting game for each of our courses/drinks to come out for the evening. After spending $260 (including tip) for a mediocre experience, don't think we'll be coming back.

Let me start by saying I'm usually stingy with my five star reviews but Sovana Bistro really deserves it! We tried this place for the first time tonight to celebrate a birthday. I had done some research and was looking for a new place to try and this place had gotten some nice reviews. The reviews were right! This place was really great! To start, it's new and clean inside and has a quaint ambiance. Adding to that, the staff is super friendly and attentive. Our waitress Francesca was outstanding! Great attitude, great smile, great listener, knowledgeable - a rare find! The food is farm to table so it is super fresh. They even make their own pasta. Early on the waitress made note that we were celebrating a birthday and later in the evening even circled back to that fact when she asked the individual if he wanted some dessert for his birthday. One really nice touch was that our waitress let us know that each course would come out separately (it's a pet peeve of mine when the main course comes out too close to or even at the same time as the appetizer). It made me comforted in a way and she did not disappoint! Everything was timed to perfection! We had a carafe of water on the table, which I think is also a nice touch and eases the burden of the waitstaff while making sure customers have something to drink at all times. As a pleasant surprise our dining experience began with amuse-bouche "gift from the kitchen" gazpacho shooters which were super tasty. We then had a cheese board and a bread board as appetizers. The raisin bread was a standout, but it was all delicious. For dinner (there were four of us) there was pizza, rigatoni and meatballs and a Sovana double burger (with egg and bacon). The meatballs were soft and flavorful and the perfect blend with the homemade pasta. I didn't try the pizza personally but the individual who ordered it ate the whole thing! As for the burger, I got to try a bite and it was truly amazing, as were the crispy, salty string fries that came with it! We managed to save room for dessert and there was crème brûlée that was rich and velvety and delicious, a s'mores bowl (chocolate, graham crackers and seared marshmallows) that was rich and gooey and amazing, and also a yummy chocolate cake with a coffee ice cream. In fact, one of the crème brûlées even came out with a birthday candle on it, showing their attention to detail! Overall, I definitely recommend this place for a celebration or a date night for sure! I am looking forward to going back!

I've heard such great things about Sovana and I was so excited to try it out. The inside is gorgeous with a boho/farmhouse vibe. The bar is a cool curved shape with super comfy chairs. The libation menu is pretty huge and they had pretty cool flights to choose from. The cocktails are pretty pricey but look delicious! The truffle Mac and Cheese was absolutely creamy and delicious! The Brussels were extremely underwhelming. They weren't crispy at all and tasted kind of burnt. The mushroom pizza was a hit (obviously near the mushroom capital)! I'd come back for a few of the menu items but I was as impressed as I intended to be!

Ask the Community - Sovana Bistro

I just drove by from the looks of it there was a gas explosion or fire as place is closed down...?

Yes, it had a bad fire on January, 2020. It’s so sad because this place is exceptional in food and service. I’m praying for all the staff and owner that Sovana will have a quick recovery.

    Is Sovana BYOB?

Nope. I'm sure you can but there'll likely be corkage. Their wine selection is actually interesting and varied.

Do they have a kids menu?

    Yes!!

I love when this happens…read more With no agenda, we ended up in West Chester PA (vs Westchester NY.) A cute town with an inordinate number of restaurants, we peered into windows and read menus. "The Mediterranean Restaurant" sparked interest. Infusing Lebanese and Italian cuisines, they garnered great reviews. Also BYOB. After running to Carlinos for a bottle of red, we took our chances at Mediterranean without a reservation. (Do indeed make one if you come for dinner.) I chatted with the couple across from us. "This is the best restaurant in West Chester," the fellow said. They live here and have been to them all. We started with what's called a Maza Platter: customer's choice of four appetizers. I selected feta & olives, tabouli, hummus and baba ghanoush. Delish!! (Unlike my husband, I wasn't a fan of feta, but this feta was infinitely better than anything I've had before.) The spreads are made inhouse. The cheese isn't. T raved about the lamb kabob, which was likely grilled. I in turn recommend their falafel encrusted chicken. Chef isn't afraid to spice things up and everything was noticeably fresh. Even the sides were stand-out. The aforementioned couple recommended Mediteranean's apple pie for dessert, a seemingly odd choice. They said it's baked in the restaurant's adjoining bakery. Since they ran out of ice cream -- what's pie if it's not a la mode?! -- T and I shared baklava. Two thumbs up. Homemade, not saturated in syrup. I'd like to give a shoutout to Jason, our delightful and efficient server. He does the restaurant proud. Note that Mediterranean has been in West Chester for 29 years. (That's a virtual lifetime in the restaurant world!) Prices we thought reasonable, and portions generous.

The entrees weren't any better. Ran out of beef. Not sure how one does that on a day with like 3 tables. Tried the special soup, which we sent back. The bolognese was gross. Tasted sort of like Chef Boyardee, but worse. The had to argue with the "chef" to even take it off the tab. She suggested we'd be better off eating at home. We agree. McDonald's would have been a step up. It seems like they just don't have any spices or salt in that kitchen. Plus the servers would just disappear for ages. It appeared that this was our server's first job in food service. Service was rather slow. And hour in, no entrées. It's in an hold house, which was cute. Most tables are upstairs. If you want Mediterranean food, you'd be better off cooking something from the Betty Crocker cookbook.

I discovered this place from Yelp and am so glad that I did. I really like their shawarma platters. All of the meats (chicken, beef, lamb) are good. I like the hummus as a side and it comes with a delicious piece of bread, that smells amazing if you pop it in the oven for a few minutes. They also have an option to sub the rice for veggies in the platters. I enjoy dining in because the service and ambiance are nice. It is also convenient for take out. My only gripe is that they use styrofoam takeout containers so the hot food does burn into the containers, which releases toxic chemicals. Definitely worth a stop for food! I'm providing this honest review as a constructive feedback for improvement…read more We came across this place online but were only able to try it recently...I was honestly disappointed by many things: First, when a place advertises shawarma meat and posts videos of the famous Lebanese shawarma revolving cone that grills the marinated meat as the cone turns, you would expect that the shawarma plate you order is an authentic shawarma meat cut off the shawarma cone...unfortunately, this was not the case at cafe baladi. I respect the owner who's advertising authentic homemade Lebanese food but the shawarma meat we got was not an authentic shawarma meat...this was meat that was cooked either in a pan or in the oven and was not tender because it was not probably marinated and it's not grilled on the shawarma cone. Placed that have the famous shawarma cone you can usually see in the restaurant either behind the counter or through a window in the back - this was not the case. Second the plate included the choice of hummus or baba ghannouj and tabbouleh...we picked baba ghannouj and we got the tabbouleh...again, the baba ghannouj did not taste at all authentic nor homemade...it tasted like the baba ghannouj in a conserved can that you find in grocery stores. Authentic baba ghannouj is made from grilled eggplant tahini lemon juice and salt. Third, the Lebanese tabboule is made from finely chopped vegetables (parsley, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, and burgul). Unfortunately again this tabbouleh was not finely chopped and it lacked the burgul. We were really disappointed. The only positive thing was that the service was quick.
