I'm new to the area and found soya on yelp. I read a couple reviews and decided to go. The parking is horrid, but its worth the trip. The waiters that day were good eye candy and they had such great customer service. They made conversation amd immediately had my roll made to go. The sushi was delicious. I got a new mango roll they had just rolled out for the season and I was not disappointed. I could taste each bit of the roll and it was so filling. Really big pieces and the end piece should have been 2, but still totally great. I totally would recommend trying it. An awesome place to grab sushi on the oceanfront totally loved it. read more

Soya has the best sushi! The poke ahi tuna salad is my favorite! Tony (the sushi chef) starts making the poke salad as soon as he sees me walk in the door. Very friendly staff and the freshest sushi. The vegetables were cooked correctly, but I don't like so many onions. The shrimp was oddly crunchy and the beading fell off?? One of the better places to get sushi in VB. Its hard to explain but their sushi just tasted fresher, while most places have average "mall" sushi, you can really tell the difference at Soya. We went in the evening for dinner and it had a very intimate setting, better for couples or dates. We had my daughter with us and while that was fine, we felt kind of out place amongst the couples in a dimly lit setting :P Also, the service did take quite a bit, so go when you have a lot of time or make sure you bring an interesting date ;) read more

Right off the bat the waitress seemed annoyed we were with children. But other than that the lunch special was cheap but the food was not. It was like a small 4 course meal of a sushi roll, some choice of seafood related friend type business, a salad, and soup. The whole family just got their orders and threw them in the middle of the table and we all pigged out. I was there off the popular season so the place was pretty empty. I have no huge qualms other than the waitress honestly. Good location for the touristy types and any beach goers with a price to match even the frugal spenders. Customer service was a little slow, but understandable given there was only one server for the whole place. Awesome sushi! My friends and I were only in town for two nights and ate dinner here both nights. The VA Beach Crunch roll and Volcano II roll were my favorites. Very fresh and super yummy. The food here was really good. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. We had the negimaki, salmon rolls, shumai, and yakisoba. I had nothing to complain about the food. But the service was absolutely ridiculous, figure out somewhere else to go if you are really hungry. It took nearly an hour and half just to get appetizers. The waiter claimed that it was their first busy night of the year. I don't care, as a restaurant they should really get their stuff together busy or not. I'm not a sushi kind of person and that's what I like about soya. A large selection of vegetarian and non seafood dishes on the menu for those of us that dont eat that and they are done very well. My wife loved the sushi and even my picky son enjoyed the sushi as well(that's a gargantuan task in it's own right) as the other dishes I got. Great place surrounded by average at best restaurants. The portion on both was just about generous enough to justify the cost and the flavors of the proteins were good. We didn't enjoy the flavor of the fried rice, but the white rice was fine. There are places you go in your hometown and abroad that on the surface seem to be fluff and location, but no substance or yumminess. Not here - SOYA has it all. This is where you go for a date night, with friends or even with your kids who love sushi and you want to feel like you are treating yourself. Years we have frequented this sushi (and more - steak/chicken dishes and interesting apps) restaurant and it has become a source of reliable comfort and replenishment. $5 salad may seem high but fresh ingredients and huge. Their miso soup is always tasty. Our Favorite rolls to not miss - Atkins (no rice....flavorful and fresh), Watermelon, Lion King (if you want something cooked) and SOB (cilantro lovers). Salmon nigiri never disappoints - buttery with generous slices. Friendly service and relaxing environment that still energizes. Easily one of the top sushi destinations in not just Virginia Beach but all of Hampton Roads. read more

I ordered some sushi to go today and I had a great experience. The workers were very friendly. The sushi was very fresh and the sushi chef made the slight changes to the rolls that I requested. I ordered a Dragon Roll, Philadelphia Roll, and a Lion King roll. I will return next time I'm in Virginia Beach to try dinner. read more

Came around 1:30. Not busy at all. Didn't get sat until 5-7 minutes later. Servers were nice, very engaging. Ambiance is nice. Had a oyster shooter. First time having one, but I wasn't a fan of the raw quail egg. If it was caviar and the oyster alone then it would have been more enjoyable. The main thing I didn't like was the uni.
