We came here for Valentine's Day, and they were offering a special set menu, which made the whole experience feel really thoughtful and well paced. The menu included a palate cleanser, an appetizer, a choice of an entrée or two rolls, and mochi for dessert (green tea or vanilla). It was a great way to experience a few different things without being overwhelmed by choices. For my rolls I got the Metal Gear Solid roll and the NYPD roll, and both were incredible. Everything was super fresh and really well balanced. One thing that stood out was what they served with the Mizuno Crudo. The sauce that came with it was so damn good that I actually asked for extra because I started dipping my sushi rolls in it. It took the whole meal up another level. The atmosphere made it a great date-night spot, especially for something like Valentine's Day. It felt intimate but still relaxed. We came here on a whim after a day visiting Virginia Beach. We were starving and the sushi place we were going to go to ended up being closed during regular business hours. We were starving and had 4 kids with us after a long day and this was the next closest sushi place. This is not a place you would typically bring small kids or a whole family group with strollers but they were luckily empty at the time and they completely accommodated us. Everyone was so friendly and the food was incredible. We got a bunch of sushi rolls to share. Definitely on the pricier end but it is because of the quality and the atmosphere which comes with great service. I would love to come back for a date night with my husband. This family owned restaurant serves fresh, quality fish that is sourced locally and internationally from Japan and other parts of the globe. I WAS BLOWN AWAY by Chef Watawaru's sushi creation and the superb freshness of his seafood. I was able to watch the chef first hand filet his fish. He showed incredible perfection with his knife skills and craft in his dishes. Upon casually conversating with him, I could tell he was a hardworking dedicated person who invested so much time and love into his restaurant. I made reservations for Valentine's day and was prepared to spend some money to enjoy my 3 course dinner. Our preappetiser just wowed me! The perfect bite.. was incredibly genius! The Tuna salad avocado on a chip was a tease that made me wanting more. On a regular they make it on the house with sushi-grade tuna.. they have a tuna salad roll, that is highly recommended. I ordered the hamachi ceviche and the chef's sashimi platter with the mochi ice cream for dessert for $80 per person. I also had their toro and uni which are my normal favorite go to selections for sushi. That is when I fell in love with the place. The entire meal was memorable. My husband ordered the ramen, but although it was a smaller bowl than he expected, he thought the broth was incredible. How have I never been here!?! Hidden by a nondescript entry near Aldo's at The Promenade shops... I've easily driven past 100x and never knew this sushi haven was right here!!! Loved it. Very classy inside with a beautiful light-up white bar area and plenty of seating. Prompt and friendly service and great menu selection to please everyone. Lots of fabulous sushi rolls, including some low-carb veggie options as well as local options and the old faves (think California and Philly). We had a seaweed salad, a yellowtail tuna roll, and the King Kong roll which is a low-carb roll with salmon salad wrapped in a thinly sliced cucumber with no rice. Soooo good! Went out here on a whim from Yelp for our date night. I can't even remember how we ended up in this area (a bit far for us) but I am so glad we found it. When you walk in, the visual appeal is very immediate. I loved it. It really set the stage for a great date night appeal. We were too hungry to take any photos. We ordered online and went at our time to pickup. I arrived a few minutes early so I sat at the bar to wait. The inside does not look at all how I thought it would. The bar was very neon and then the rest of the restaurant was a little dark and intimate. It was a very cool looking place. I hope to dine in next time. We ordered a ton of things to go and everything was perfect. We got two small miso soups, but were wondering if they were actually larges. It was a good amount of soup. We wanted to try a new sushi restaurant and was recommend this place. We did not have reservations but they were still able to find a seat for us upon walk-in. First impressions, this restaurant has a modern upscale vibe. It was really busy all while following Covid regulations. It was also very clean. This place was pretty pricey but your able to find some authentic Japanese dishes on the menu. The menu had a really good selection. We ordered the Salmon Crudo, Salmons Salad Tacos, Spicy Salmon hand roll (not on the menu) and some other sushi rolls. Every single dish brought to the table was beautifully presented. Everything was delicious except the Salmon Salad Tacos which was dry and the Spicy Salmon hand roll. I should have known that since the hand roll was not on their menu it probably wouldn't have been made well. It was literally just raw salmon, sriracha, rice and sushi wrap which unwrapped the minute I picked it up to eat it. I really do believe they should improve their hand rolls and add it to the menu as this is an opportunity to add their touch to an authentic style sushi. Overall, I do believe there are better and cheaper sushi restaurants locally. I'd probably here come for a girls night with the nice modern upscale atmosphere to enjoy sushi and drinks. Amazing is an understatement with how heavenly this food is. Every time we are in town we always have to make a stop here. The owner is a lovely man and I enjoy his food to a point where it's concerning almost. The beef negima is a blessing in the mouth. Everyone at the table practically fights for it. I gave this place an average rating, because overall, I think some of their sashimi is good. I don't like how a lot of restaurants cut their sashimi so thick and this place is no different. I got the sushi and sashimi dinner, I liked their ikura, salmon, and tuna. The Hamachi was okay, and everything else was not memorable. The rice was ok, not terrible but not amazing. The price point is a bit high for what it is, but I think maybe it's due to location and ambience. Service was good. I think the owner himself came over to check in on us. I think if you're looking for a modern ambience of a Japanese sushi place, then this is the place. We can't stop talking about how amazing the food and experience was! 1) I recommend reservations if you can. 2) It is more upscale than local sushi places. 3) the quality of the meat, fish and vegetables used are very high. So I'm not from Virginia Beach, but I have been to Mizuno about 4 times. I'm a sushi person and tried a few places around the area (I've been out here semi often for work), and Mizuno is by far and above the best out here. Located in a really nice complex off Laskin, Mizuno's decor really fits in well. Modern, clean, trendy. Now normally when I hear trendy and sushi I think it will be shit food. Not here. The owner takes pride in his establishment and the food he serves. You get traditional nigiri and sashimi, and less focus on the fufu. There is some ramen and a few hot dishes. I have tried them, but they all small great. Aesthetically, the physical sushi bar is one of the nicest I've ever seen. It's a beautiful piece of naturally cut wood, finished in a semi matte top coat. If you're into higher quality sushi, great ambiance, and conversation with an owner that really cares...
