I had a pedicure a week ago. Even though the service in itself was good I feel the pedicurist was a bit tough since a week later my toes are still hurting ! I 've been there a few times and this has never happened to me. So I am a bit disappointed since I am 75 years old and have trouble cutting my nails. I am very disappointed with my experience at Spa Bene today. I had booked an appointment to get a Dazzle Dry mani and pedi because I am getting married this weekend. Suzy, my nail technician did a very poor job with my manicure as it looks messy, cuticles are still apparent and she missed some of my nail on certain fingers. There was a lack of care with the execution of her work that made me wish I stopped her half way and either asked for someone new or left all-together. She also cut my cuticle. I have no intention of returning to this salon and hope I can find one in the neighborhood that is more professional with workers who hold themselves to a standard. I fly out to California tomorrow and have to somehow get them fixed before my big day on Saturday. read more

I've been coming here off and on for a few years. I wouldn't give two stars if it was a regular nail salon but it calls itself a spa and charges more money than other salons. The level of service doesn't justify the high prices. I feel rushed to pick my colors and the pedicures hurt. Last couple of times I was there, I was left at the dryer. No one came to check if I was dry, apply quick dry or help me with my shoes. I don't consider that "spa" treatment. It appears to me as if staff is rushed and fearful. Once when I was there the boss was shouting at the staff. I think I'll start trying some other salons in the neighborhood. There was lots of them. Hopefully I'll find a place where the staff are friendly and gentle. read more

I've been going here for several years now. My manicure needs are pretty basic - I like my nails short and neat with a light polish. They always do a terrific job. For me, the pedicure is really where it's at. I walk a lot in NY so I'm in here pretty regularly....I get compliments on my pedicure ALL the time. And the foot/leg massage that comes with the pedi cannot be beat. They also have a great selection of polish colors and the salon is very clean and spa like. read more

This is the closest nail salon to me, and my neighbor recommended them, so I went for a pedicure despite the mediocre reviews. Well, the Yelp consensus was right, and I will need to look for a different place next time. The woman who did my pedicure filed my nails extremely harshly and quickly, so much so that she scratched the skin on my right big toe and it started smarting. I asked her to avoid the skin when she moved to the left foot, and she said "well your nails are...ok, I'll stop then". Ummm, what? All I wanted was for her to be more careful, but apparently she just got frustrated and gave up. It wasn't super relaxing after that, as I felt like I had to watch her as she cut my cuticles in case of any issues there. It was not exactly the best experience, and I'm left hoping I don't get an infection from the scratch. read more

I asked for a soak off for my acrylics. The woman barely tried to soak them off and then just started ripping them off. My nail beds are now pretty much completely exposed. And then she said "your nails are too weak, we can't do gel today". I could have done the same thing at home for free. Wouldn't recommend. read more

I initially tried Spa Bene because it's my closest spa and have since gotten a few massages and nail services. They have a gorgeous outdoor area where you can get reflexology/massage and pedicures, pretty rare and was a feature even before the pandemic. Their safety procedures are really good, and every employee has been lovely and skilled at what they do. My 5 star rating is really based on their expertise. I had a nail that was splitting and I couldn't get it to grow out after trying at home solutions and having another salon glue it, and immediately when I showed the team at Spa Bene they used a nail wrap to fix it and actually solve the problem- and then gave me a great manicure on top of it. Several people actually complimented my nails and it was truthfully one of the best manicures I've ever gotten- the shape and polish were perfect and my sensitive cuticles remained intact! I'm happy that my most convenient salon is also a good one, and while prices may be a little higher than some other nyc nail salons, the quality is worth it. Glad to have them so close! read more

This review is for their substandard TMJ massage quality and the rude treatment afterward. My TMJ has been worsening lately due to stress and I was excited to see an advertisement for TMJ-specific treatment at this spa. I had a conversation with Isaac and he seemed really knowledgeable so I made an appointment, even though it's expensive at $75/30 mins ($80 with tax). When i showed up, he didn't ask any questions before getting started and wasted a lot of time on useless massage. Finally at the end he hit on a couple of trigger points and then told me I could do this at home on my own - so what was the point in paying him? I didn't have cash for the tip, so he gave me his Venmo handle. Two minutes after I left the salon, the salon calls me to ask why I haven't venmoed him a tip yet. Unbelievable - I have never been harassed by a salon about gratuity after leaving and won't return. read more

Nice and clean spa. Walk ins are welcome. It was moderately busy on a weekday evening when I arrived but I was serviced quickly and I didn't have to wait. I got a mani and pedi. I was in and out in about 1 hour. The lady who did my nails was quiet but friendly and fast. They have a variety of spa services including massages and facials. A little on the pricier side. Mani and pedi were about $50. Only thing is the nail polish quality. A regular manicure usually lasts about 2 weeks for me but this manicure barely lasted 5 days. read more

I have come here previously for massages and been happy, so I thought I would try for a pedicure. The advantages: This place is very clean and quiet which I like. No one appears to be rushing, and there is space to sit and read while you wait for your nails to dry. I really appreciate this. The disadvantages: all of this said, I felt that the service was not out of this world and that the staff was not the most attentive. I noticed that there were a lot of regulars around at the time I came, and it seemed like more attention was poured on to them than to me because I was new. All customers should receive the same attention! I was stumbling to get my personal items around with me upon arrival (no one offered to help me for several minutes). Similarly, when I wanted to leave, I had to make it very, very obvious that I was worried about my pedicure getting damaged when I put my shoes on before anyone (and it was not my pedicurist) offered to wrap my feet. This is not good, especially for $40+. I am not sure if I will return. My advice is to go with someone who is a regular I guess. read more

oh my gosh... I just had the worst experience here. So I just popped in to just get my eyebrows done, which came out to 18 dollars. Unfortunately, the spa only takes credit cards for over 20 dollars, so I asked if she could just add another two to the bill. She (very rudely) said no and began nearly yelling at me asking me how I was going to pay. I said that while I don't have venmo, I could get my sister to venmo someone. To this, she raised her voice even louder, saying that venmo was for tip only. By this point, I was irritated. No one carries cash after covid, and if you aren't going to accept a credit card (even after I volunteered to add however much to the bill) you should at least take venmo. Finally, she told me that I had to add an extra service, so I went for the quickest option, a polish change. I paid, got my polish changed, and went to dry. This lady had the NERVE to then come up to me and demand that I tip her through venmo and when I explained I didn't have venmo (that's why I was going to have to get my sister to do it) she then told me to, "text my sister to tip her." I had already paid an extra 20 dollars simply because she could not figure out / refused to add an extra couple of dollars to the receipt so I could pay in cash. Also, as someone who always tips (usually 50%), I found this to be absolutely infuriating and felt like I was being taken advantage of. I will never come back here. read more

They gave me a fungus!! I went with my mother a week ago. I typically do my own nails but I'm two weeks away from giving birth and wanted to treat myself. Today I took the polish off and I have a fungus on two nails (Pictured). I've never had anything like this in my life. This place looks clean and high end but obviously it's not and $200 later I'm horrified that I'll have this on my hands when I first hold my newborn. They also tried to sell me a bottle of Zoya nail polish for $26...It's $10 on Amazon. Go somewhere else! read more

I made a manicure/pedicure appointment online through Spa Bene's website (also left my email and credit card info) and received an email confirmation of time and date. However when I arrived shortly before the time for my mani/pedi I was told there was no record of the appointment because I should have called rather than make it through the website. No apologies offered. Needless to say I will never go to Spa Bene again and am concerned because I foolishly entered my credit card Info when making the appointment. The person I dealt with at the spa was not helpful and rushed me out before I could even make sure all my info was removed. Not a pleasant experience. There are so many manicure shops on the Upper West Side you'd think customer service would be a priority but not at Spa Bene. read more

I used to say that Spa Bene was my favorite mani/pedi place in all of NYC and I'll probably never find another place as clean or quiet but I won't be going back and here's why... Yesterday I walked in for a manicure. I knew they were closing at 8 so I asked if there was enough time. If I was told, "No." then I would have said, "Alright, I'll come back tomorrow." but I was not told no. So I sat down and everything was fine until it came time to dry. The woman who did my nails came up to me, said they were closing, and kicked me out. If you're going to rush someone out the door when they're in the middle of drying that means there wasn't enough time and I should have been told that. Because the time it takes to dry should have been factored in. Or they should have just let me stay and finish. Once you let a customer in you should let them stay until they're finished. I mean, imagine if a restaurant did the same thing to people while they're in the middle of eating. The woman said, "Oh, the cold air will help them dry." Hahaha. That's like if a restaurant told a customer, "Oh, that bench outside is a good place to finish eating your food." So my nails weren't given the proper time to dry which means they may chip more easily and/or quickly. So the salon should at least say, "If they chip easier and/or faster than normal we'll fix it within a few days free of charge." They said no such thing and I had actually already asked for them to remind me of their policy when it comes to chipping that occurs a few days later since I know many salons will make minor fixes free of charge within three days. Nope, not here apparently. Was told I'd have to pay $10, the same amount as a full polish change. Eff that. Never again. read more

This has been my go-to place for Pedicures. I always found it clean, and relaxing. And, my Pedicure always looked nice. I will not be going back, and here is why: During my Pedicure, I saw a roach scramble across the floor near my chair. I didn't love seeing that, but got over it, as my bag was resting on the chair beside me. About 5 minutes later, a roach crawled onto me from the side of the chair. I jumped and the woman doing my pedicure gave me a smile and sprayed at the relentless roach. I then saw another one to the side of the chair. Gross!! Besides being disgusted, when I very quietly addressed it with who I thought was the manager, he said he was very sorry for the experience and would let the manager know. And, that was that. Not having a manager come to me and apologize or say something is so wrong! I have a feeling that this is a common occurrence. read more

I have been here twice and it was ok, but I just went for a third time (yesterday) and it stood out as being a pretty bad experience. During my pedicure, I was asked if I wanted to add an extra foot massage for 20 mins. I said ok, even though it was another $40 or so. She set a timer. What followed was 20 minutes of pretty much nothing. She intermittently pressed lightly on my feet and toes, while looking around the entire time, and occasionally talking to others. I literally had to shake my feet to get her to restart the "timed" massage and even asked twice (very nicely) to press hard so that I could feel the massage. The pedicure itself was meh, 3/5... but the massage was -1/5... the biggest waste of time and money. read more

Stopped in around 11am on a Saturday morning for a pedicure. The ladies were so nice and helped me pick out a color to match my open toe sandals. I opted in for the zen pedicure ($55) which includes a 10 min foot rub. Very clean and relaxing experience. I'll definitely be back! read more

Cot Daaamn! This place is super pricey! BUUUT, it was a wonderful experience the first time and has proven to be consistent the few times I've been since. The aesthetics are simple, beautiful and very clean looking with a lot of light. The equipment seems sterile and I saw people cleaning while I was there which was comforting. My nail person was friendly. I downloaded an app they use called Perka that works on a point system. It's nice they have something to provide a discount given the high prices. They offer massage packages too. I always tak on a 15 minute chair massage after I get my nails done and each time has been very relaxing and worth it. One day soon I will be trying out a full body massage. If you're going for quality over quantity this is definitely the place! read more

I've been coming here on and off for a couple of years. It is convenient, has a nice atmosphere, and I really want to like it. However, it is a little more expensive than some other places, which I was always happy to overlook. I'm finally done though. Despite coming in fairly regularly, they always seemed happy to see me, but would then ask if it was my first time. Not a big deal. What was a big deal was that after a my last few treatments (massage/facial), I had to seek medical attention for neck and back issues and for dizziness that lasted several days. Scary! I also noticed that gel manicures from here, unlike any I've gotten elsewhere, don't last long. They just start peeling off, like the whole nail, within a week or less. Weird. When I asked about it, I was told some colors do that. When I said it had happened to me with a variety of colors, they said maybe it was something about my nails. Ok. Never happened with anywhere else. I did notice they seem to skip a step I've seen elsewhere of sort of cleaning or priming the nail before the first coat, but who knows? The last time I was in the lady who did my nails and her colleague sitting next to each other mock-whispered making fun of my polish choices. I ran out of time and the friend I was with had to cancel one service (manicure) which I think they charged me for anyway, but in the end I was in such a rush to get out that I didn't check the bill. Oh, I was also frazzled because as I was checking out, still feeling woozy and achy from the massage, they made a few final comments about my polish choices, and someone else held up calculator showing me how much I should tip (to my surprise, less than I'd calculated/planned, but still weird and insulting). So, I've tried to make it work with Spa Bene, but now I'm done. read more

Terrible experience. My husband and I went in on a Saturday afternoon to use a gift certificate someone gave us. The reception when we first got there was nice and welcoming. We didn't wait long to be seated and helped to our manicure. The two ladies that helped us took (literally) less than 10 minutes to get us in and out. They rushed through the manicure, did a half-ass job on both of us, and the product they used was falling off our nails 3 hours after we left the place. Not sure if they rushed because we were both male and thought we just wanted a light cleaning and leave or what. We noticed another female client who came in before we did and was still there by the time we left. Maybe we just got unlucky with the two ladies who helped us, but either way we have no plans to come back. The gift certificate will expire with some dollars left in it. This place is not worth repeating based on today's poor experience. Spa not so bene :( read more

I went here for a chair massage. It was $50 for 30m, which is not super-cheap, but they did offer the option of doing it outside in their back patio, which was good. The massage was good but not great. I walked in spur-of-the-moment, said I had no cash or credit card on me and asked if they took just a debit card. They said yes. But they did not mention that they only took tips in cash. When I went to leave, they informed me that they only took tips in cash. I said I had already told them I had no cash on me. They pointed me to their instore ATM. I had to use this in order to pay the tip. So I had to spend an additional $4 ($2 for the ATM fee, and $2 for my bank fee for using an outside ATM) in order to give them a $10 cash tip. I think, in the current coronavirus situation, nail spas and salons need to rethink this compulsory cash tip policy. Many people, including me, prefer to minimise cash and use cards for hygiene reasons. This place is more high-end and assuming people carry bundles of $20s around with them is no longer realistic. In this case I had specifically told them in advance that I had no cash on me, which is why I give them 3 stars for "meh" service. I was forced to choose between stiffing the guy on the tip, or paying another $4 in order to give him a tip. read more

There are a few nail salons in my neighborhood and I've been to Spa Bene a few times over the years. My primary salon is the Dashing Diva on Columbus but it was packed so I went to Spa Bene. Past times, it's been decent but today's most recent experience was such a disappointment. I was jabbed so hard while having my cuticle pushed back and my finger started bleeding. There was no apology and the nail technician kept moving along. I paid $25 plus tip ($5 for Zoya!!!) for a manicure that left me bleeding - will not be coming back even if my usual spot is full. There are better prices and experiences in the neighborhood! read more

I never in my life have taken the time to give a place a bad review but this nail salon did such a poor job that I felt the need to WARN others not waste their time and money. The lady that did my nails was totally inexperienced and took almost 2 hours to do simple gel. I had to give her tons of directions cause she had no clue what she was doing!! They also charge me double what it would cost at any other salon. Than to top things off 3 days later guess what, my nails are chipping! Spa Bene was such a great experience. I helped to organize a friend's bachelorette and booked 7 manicures and pedicures plus a massage. They accommodated us and the service was excellent. All of the amenities are extremely clean and well taken care of. Not only did they take care of our entire party nicely, they also had set up the outside patio for us so that we could bring rosé and enjoy outside. Overall, great service and great experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone. read more
