I bought a refurbished hot tub 2 weeks before 9-11-2001 from Donn when his business was called "Spa Warrior." This is about the purchase and follow-up service in these 13 years since. It was originally a Sundance Spa about 7 years old costing $6-7,000 new. It has a beautiful heavy duty solid (real) Redwood cabinet with rounded corners. He installed new patterned (real) ceramic tile with grout replacing the original in a 4-inch indented strip on the interior four sides at the water level. His work was such that we have re-stained the cabinet only twice and the tiles and interior are still perfect. The spa remained problem free over 3 years. (Today figure 5 years, because all mechanical and electronic parts are replaced even if working now). The new spa cover provided at purchase was just replaced October 2013. With a bad knee and legs, my spa is comparable to a short massage every day. What was my cost in September 2001? $1900! With tax--just under $2000. It was very surprising to learn than Spa Mania still sells many rehabs in that same price range. Included are free delivery and one-year warranty on parts and labor. If Donn's products had many problems such as those related in negative reviews, it is doubtful he would still be in business. Spa Mania has an "A+" rating by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) because only actual customers with a receipt can complain. Spa Mania services the entire Bay Area and then some, having recently delivered to Sacramento and Santa Cruz, demonstrating that few bargains like this exist. Besides price, there are other advantages in buying this way. Even in a top end new spa you won't likely find real wood or ceramic tile today. I had a choice of two spas at the same price, but varying in size, style and appearance. Donn told me what he was planning in renovating them, helping me decide. In recent years I've performed some of the few repairs, and have received bargain prices on parts, and regularly the same on spa products such as water treatments. Some seeking lower prices, have requested retaining the existing working parts resulting in a price around $1600. If you decide a new spa is still your preference, Spa Mania can sell you one of top quality for less also. And you still get Spa Mania's personalized service instead of generic warranty service. Being right on Freeway 101, the access off and on is very quick and easy. Touissant has always been very polite, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable as well. In August 2012, yellow jackets built a nest inside my hot tub's cabinet. I phoned and on the spot, by memory, Touissant provided information on opening the cabinet without much bother. Donn always remembers me and is glad to hear from me, and where can you get that today? I have recommended Spa Mania many times and will continue to. PLEASE NOTE: I was not asked to write this, I volunteered because of the ugly and unfair negative reviews. I do not usually do referrals. When asked, Donn said he tried in every way possible to contact these people to make their problem right, and was unable to, or got no reply. One claims to have repaired as many of Donn's rehabs as reviews he's posted, yet says there's no conflict of interest in him blasting Donn(?) He warns Donn's work must be checked by a "licensed" tech but neglects to provide his own qualifications. My spa was checked by a licensed tech and nothing unsafe was found, only a faulty part due to be replaced, so it was. In point of fact, some negative reviews are only testament to the fact that Donn provides 2 things his competitors don't--quality spa rehabs and lower prices on new ones. It is an unfortunate aspect of the internet that such scares and smears can be anonymously and permanently posted against those who earn their living by offering good and reasonably priced products and service, and an excellent alternative to buying new. read more

I recently bought a tub from spa mania, and came to write them a good review and i could not believe all the negative reviews!! I have nothing butu great things to say about don and the guys he works with. I bought a refurbished spa, and in buying anything used i expected it to have some wear and tear. But they actually put in all new equipment. I was really happy to hear they rebuilt spas for a few reasons, 1. I hate seeing things go to waste, especially big things like hot tubs that are in no way biodegradable, and 2. because i simply couldnt afford to pay $8,000 plus tax for a new spa. His technician toussant came out to my house in san francisco to scope out the job and said they could do it, it had to go over 2 fences and through my neighbors yard. He brought over a samll crew and to my surprise they did it, with only a few scratches to the tub, which he came out the next week and touched up. Im more than happy with this purchase, I had a problem heating it at first, and toussant came out 2 days after they delivered it to fix it, i guess there was some air still in the lines, nothing big, but im glad they give a waranty. Theyre a small operation which i like, because when i went into sundance there were just salesman, which really didnt sound like they knew the technical aspect of the product they sell. With spa mania, the smae guy who sold me the tub, is the same guy who moved it, and who came out to service it. I met Don while he was picking up a neighbors old hot tub that he wanted to get rid of. We chatted for a bit while he was getting ready to get this old spa out of my buddy backyard and really seemed to know what he was talking about. I had owned one in the past and had issues with this thing and he was right in line with what the issues were. I asked for his information because i knew we were going to be shopping for one pretty soon. I called Don and was not able to speak with him because he was out on a call but his worker was able to give me a breakdown of new and used inventory and prices. I left a voice mail for Don and he got back to me. We scheduled a trip to Navato and picked out a spa that we really liked and he did an excellent job delivering it to our house and muscling it into out back yard. I have now recommended Spa Mania to a couple of friends that have said thanked me for the referral. read more

This is the worst and most two faced organization that has existed on planet earth this guy Don is a whack job - he sells crap and tells you it is great believe ALL of the negative reviews here he sold my wife a total lemon - the spa not only stinks as if someone deficated in it and it was never properly cleaned but only one of the pumps work - endless repairs, endless agony - most importantly - the jerk said that he would swap out the spa if we did not like it which we immediately attempted to do but then basically he is a liar and reneged - that man should be run out of town and or taken to court and sued for professional incompetence - DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS SHOP FOR ANY REASON they are thieves and two faced liars BUYER BE WARY read more

I have purchased two hot tubs from Don, and got fabulous deals on both of them. Believe me, I shopped around and no one beats Spa Mania's prices. The owner Don is a total stand-up guy. He wants his customers to be happy and he goes out of his way to make sure that happens, even if that means absorbing some of the product cost. I was initially very happy with the service and excited about my "new" refurbished hot tub. Unfortunately, I've had 4 broken parts in 2 years. Don did the first repair because it was within the first year and was under warranty. However, I've had 2 problems with the heater and a broken circulating pump since then. I spoke to my hot tub service company and they immediately guessed that I bought my lemon from Spa Mania. They know his work and and spoke very poorly of the job he does. He came here 2 weeks ago and left with our parts (he said he needed to make sure he had the right tools) 2 weeks and at least 6 no show appointments later, we still don't have our parts returned to us so we can hire someone else to do the job. As my message today stated, if the parts are not returned by 5pm tomorrow, I will initiate a small claims case against and contact the BBB. What a waste of time this has been. read more
