Can you say awesome? This place is great. We professionally hosted an event there today and the staff was extremely helpful. Even though we were not one of the guests, they treated us like we were and were very attentive, helpful, and kind. The manager is also awesome. I think his name is Louie. They offered us soft drinks even when we did not ask for them because they knew that we were working hard to set everything up. What made it even cooler was the fact that despite the fact that they had things to do, they always came and checked on us (the planners). They were great conversationalists as well. The food was out of this world, epically the sauteed shrimp (not sure if that is the dish's name but it was the best shrimp I have ever tasted! The rest of the food was also great. They were also great about keeping tabs on how the event needed to run in terms of timing. I wish every event ran this smoothly but when you have an awesome staff like this..things just flow. They all need recognition and I feel that they deserve this and every other good rating they receive. They work so hard, that you would think that they were working for tips. I love this place. When I dined at the Spain Inn, I ate a seafood rice dish called Paella. Oh it's deliciously buttery and seasoned to perfection. It compliments well with the red sangria. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it. As far as desert, I'll pass. My stomach was entirely too full. Perfect night out for adults. read more

Read the fine print carefully when booking for a party. We attended a party (a buffet) that was booked for 4 hours. The host also paid for 2 hours of sangria to be served. We sat there for 45 mins with no food served. The host repeatedly asked when the sangria would be served, with the pitchers of tea, water, and bottles of soda that was placed on the table. The sangria was not served until 1 1/2 hours after the party began. The food was set up and guests began to be served approximately 1 1/2 hours after the party began also. After an hour of the food being out, the waiters began to remove the food. The hosts nor guests were allowed to take any of the remaining food (doggie bag, and the waiters were placing the food in serving bowls. I would hate to think they were going to re-serve this food! The hosts asked them to leave the food a little longer because all of the guests had not arrived yet, but to no avail. Although the waiters were apologetic and nice, the manager was short, abrupt and kept referring to the contract. When the host pressed him for a copy of the contract, he admitted the restriction of 1 hour food service was not in the contract! He also said if guests arrived, they could receive a plate of food. I have attended many events in the tri-state area and never encountered such restrictions. The host and hostess was outraged, and have filed a complaint. We would like to share our New Years Eve experience at the Spain Inn.. My husband had planned to take me out and enjoy dinner at one of his favorite sea food restaurant, Spain Inn, which is located in Piscataway NJ. Spain Inn has been in the pass a place where we have celebrated special events with friends and family. Well, yesterday marked the day of that no longer will be the case! The service and food served yesterday was one of the poorest experienced. The bread served looked like someone had used their hand instead of a knife to cut it. Or that it was served to another table which refused it and then served to us. Our ordered was dish twin stuff lobster and salmon with mash potatoes and veggies. Well the stuff lobster was served with very little stuffing, and it tasted very watery. The salmon dish was served with a table spoon of mash potatoes. It was mentioned and the Waitress seconds later came with a plate of mash potatoes that looked like it was taken from another's table. The mash potatoes had spoon marks all around and cold! I was turn off by looking at it and saying to myself that is shameful. It's seem to us that it's all about business. We shared our experience with the owner "Luis" and his response was "I sorry" "its like Mother Day" whatever that means. He did give us $10.00 Very disappointing... read more

Had a terrific meal! One of my favorite things to do is go an order many appetizers. The spanish chorizo is amazing and served with a great honey mustard sauce. I would also recommend the shrimp and garlic and calamari. As for the meal, my stuffed salmon was amazing and my friend had a steak on the stone she enjoyed very much. I went with my boyfriend for lunch. We were greeted at the door when we first walked in. They offer coat check here which is nice. I had high hopes for this place but I was disappointed. They do not offer any lunch specials, we had to order from the dinner menu. We got the fried calamari for appetizer. It was bland and wasn't crispy, but not terrible. The sauce was good. I ordered the stuffed salmon $28 and my boyfriend ordered the garlic shrimp $20. My plate had mashed potatoes, over cooked string beans and carrots, the salmon which was quite good, and Spanish potatoes. I didn't eat the potatoes because they were soaked in grease as if they put them to fry before the oil was hot enough. My boyfriend shrimp was a little bland, the rice was dry, and his Spanish fried were greasy as well. The red sangria was great I must say, we got a pitcher. The service was great, the waiter who offered dessert was a little pushy when we clearly said we didn't want dessert (we were stuffed). The bill came out to $90 and we honestly felt robbed. Another business that rose from poor to great.I grew up in Piscataway and two blocks from the restaurant.I would not even go in there for free beer,but after the remodeling and menu change I was amazed.I have been there four times and I am never unsatisfied.Great people,beautiful interior,and great specials.I love their white sangria.I probably should have given it four stars but I remember what it USED to be so I gave five.Worth while to give it a try. read more

Went for dinner, party of 12. Forks were dirty, cup had lip prints on it. Bread was AMAZINGLY soft, sauce for the bread was delicious! Service was acceptable however i still don't know my waiters name. Sangria was EXCEPTIONAL! Food came out a decent pace. Three orders were wrong - (medium, rare and well done steaks were mixed up). A friend who got the well done steak was handed someone else from our tables dish after recognizing the mix up AFTER HE ALREADY TOUCHED THE FOOD. Of course she declined and they kindly brought her a well done steak newly plated. Stuffed tilapia was out of this world. Great portion size - couldn't finish. Everyone loved the steaks - although plating was poor (if you're into that kinda stuff) and rack of lamb was "bangin". Prices are acceptable. Parking wasn't bad. Overall we had a pleasurable evening. Would go back again. 4 stars because of the waiter, he was a bit sarcastic for my liking, the cup and fork was dirty (I'm kinda picky about that) and the fact that the plate was handed to her after someone fiddled with the veggies on it and he expected her to take it. read more

The Spain Inn is by far my favorite local eatery short of a drive to Newark, the place to take our visiting friends, family and relatives or the wife on that dreaded anniversary. We always leave bloated, happy and liquored up. Whether it's a birthday party, graduation dinner or simply looking to eat a great meal they always have surpassed our expectations. From the Paella Marinera in saffron rice to the fresh lobsters (I have seen people eating 3 maybe even 4 pounders) to my favorite the huge portion of Alaskan King Crab Legs deliciously steamed and served with real drawn butter, freshly fried potato chips and veggies. They procure the best product available and prepare and serve it consistently as good as it gets locally. For some reason I never see the crab legs on the menu so you might have to ask for em. The sangria is also fruity awesome with none of that powdered Tang drink mix thing going on others places force on ya and after a few pitchers alright maybe more than a few you wish you could eat and drink like that every night. If it's just the wife and I we often just get 5 or 6 appetizers which we share. The servers and wait staff are so attentive to every detail from scraping the bread crumbs from your table to ensuring you get a free shot of sambuca (I think that's what it is as I am usually plastered by then) you want to plan your next visit b4 you leave this one, really! The fresh hot bread with seasoned premium olive oil dipping sauce, the clams, the chorizo, the stuffed mushrooms, the lobster stuffed sole, the steak on the stone sizzling and causing you to smell like you work the grill at Sizzler. I feel a Spain Inn dinner is inevitable this week. Food wise this place is a real class act... If there is any downside it's a little dated like remodeling may be in order soon and the coffee is like that terrible dark medaglia d'oro spanish stuff, and the place is not cheap. However I learned a valuable trick here many years ago that being, you get up and follow the Maitre d out of the room and ask him to bring the check to the table, then hit the bathroom for five minutes. You would be surprised at how often the bill gets paid b4 you return. Especially if you are with a big party... This could save you tens of thousands over the years and the best part is you find out who your friends really are... lf the bill remains unpaid, pay it as you would of anyway and if someone else pays you could return to eat there again the next day! read more

For Iberian cuisine, I give it moderate marks and for the area, there isn't much to compare. They handle large groups very well and the menu offers lots of the standard Spanish and Portuguese fare you'd get in Newark. The food quality doesn't always seem very fresh so you may want to stick with the specials. The atmosphere is not as cozy as it could be. read more

This place in the worst to celebrate an event Luis this the worst person to deal with he is not a man of his world he would lie to you so you and plan you event at his location once he has you locked in he would change everything please please I encounge anyone not to book an event here. I had a big celebration this past weekend I made the worst decision ever I was promise so many thing and nothing that I was promise I receiverd on the day of the event they ruined my daughter sweet 15 a every special day for her and our family one day I will never get back. I wish I could add my review without a STAR. unfortunately this site requires at least one STAR. I used to go to this restaurant and it was good. after a few years, I decided to have dinner with my family there. First, we called to make sure there is no need for reservation, I was told, rudely I might add, that no reservation needed but it's up to you if you come or not. weird, I thought. I still drove up to Piscataway. first, they only had the smallest room open, and this was for a Friday night. the food was horrible, nothing like Spanish food. from Shrimp to chicken and veal....rice was hard to bite on, everything just smelled bad. waiters carried the food on their arms, few plates at a time with their sleeves touching the food..........we were planning to leave quickly anyway, but the constant checking of waiters made it even faster and easier for us to leave and go home and wash down the bad taste with a good cup of tea. only thing I can think of, there must be new owners/managers since my last visits. if you still want to have dinner in this place, I suggest that yuo think twice, your health and the health of your wallet........ read more

The food was average, nothing to get excited about. The wait to receive our food was pretty long considering that we only ordered 2 entrees and no appetizers. The seating was cramped and not much elbow room or walking access, patrons consistently walked behind our chairs and bumped into our backs, and arms. Waiters carried the plates out with multiple meals stacked on top of each other, with bottoms of plates touching the top of the food underneath it. And to top it off, when we called for our check, they tried to charge our card 30$ extra than our meal cost, claiming that they thought $50.88 was $80.88. When we approached the manager to fix the transaction, we were told it would take 3 days to show an adjustment to our account. So in conclusion, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I will go back to driving right past this place on 7th street, but now in will be shaking my head as I go. read more

My rating is based on the horrible service at this place. If I can give it a zero, I would. The waiters seem disinterested and are really rude. They can care less about providing you with a pleasant dining experience. Management should take note of the low online ratings geared towards bad service and do something about it.
