I finally went in the last day that I was here and while the cashier did have a protective shield on, the four people in line in front of me not only weren't wearing a mask, they didn't appear to even possess one. I love a great burger joint and this little spot is up there in my book. Walking in you see along the walls stuffed monkeys of all different sizes lining the store, thought it made it an even better experience. Customer service is tops, always friendly and patient, helping you out if you don't know what to get. Gotta love the big board with all the fine ways to enjoy a burger, crab cakes, dogs, sausages and then some. If that still doesn't satisfy you they have specials on a side board ,plus they have dessert ! The options here are endless along with the fact they are not expensive, very reasonable I noticed as I am salivating in which direction to go. I finally decided , torn between the two I intended to go with.. Viking.. Voodoo.. Voodoo.. Viking and with the flip of the coin I'll take the Voodoo habanero cheese burger with bacon please ! Now this already perfect cheese burger ( with the bacon I added ) needed some company to follow and where do we go, that's right chili cheese fries ! I was gonna go with gravy fries but the wifey was getting it with her meal of choice so I know I can steal a little to sample. With the Voodoo burger they make a habanero BBQ sauce on the side for you to apply, they are not responsible for the intense heat you are about to endure. Understandable and thoughtful on their part, and at the time I didn't think it would be that intense. As I receive my order that is being brought over I go and grab that sauce and just spread it everywhere top and bottom portions of this burger , mouth watering I just bite in . All I need to say is WOW what a great burger and a HOLY S**T that's hot, now I know why they do it this way as I wipe the sweat from my head. The fries were great with that melted cheese and chili given to you me on the side per request. (which was great ) An amazing meal with a great experience to go with it, who is going to argue that. Once you have finished your meal they also have a gift shop inside where you can buy souvenirs from shirts to shot glasses, the stuffed monkeys unfortunately are not for sale. They have been donated through out the years by customers and the locals. I tried for one, the highest I went up to was a 50 spot for a stuffed animal. Great food, great staff, comfortable setting, and I expect you to enjoy the same experience I just did. Now walk in that door and order !! I will be coming back again in the future when we go on vacation to rock out that Viking burger ! read more

My husband and I come here every year, and THIS year he decided to try the Mad Viking Challenge: a 2lb 4xpatty monster with cheese. I got my old standby of the NC BBQ sandwich with coleslaw and fries, which were great as usual, but his burger was so freakin good he finished it, no problem. Found this down the road from a wedding we were atrending. Got the crab cake dinner combo which came with hush puppies and fries. Prices were cheap and everyone enjoyed their meals. I was surprised how decent the crab cake was because it didn't look that appealing. Only real complaint is the place looked like it needed to be cleaned a bit. We wiped down the tables from the crumbs from the last people who sat there. The floors looked like it needed a good mopping as well. read more

Spanky's was the most unique location I ate at during my vacation. They offered a "Mad Viking burger" (2lb.burger). Although in my picture it may look easily beatable, that picture is deceiving, this bad boy was a mammoth. I was able to finish it in a sitting but it was a challenge for sure. The quality was perfect as well, and my table got 3 of these things and they had them out very quickly and the taste was on point. The one takeaway I had from this shop though is the customer service. They had the best out of any place i went. And the gentleman at the front desk that helped me was so kind. The entire staff was upbeat and happy to serve me. After beating the challenge i received a sticker and my name on a list that they have on the store. If your looking for a quick lunch this is THE spot to go to. They offer all your basic chicken sandwich and burger options. Tried this place based on the reviews on yelp and it did not disappoint If you haven't been here you're definitely missing out. The burgers are so good! I got the big bacon burger my dad got a double and my mom got a 1/4lb burger. The coleslaw is really good too! I wish we would have tried this place sooner since my parents have been coming to obx for 20 years. We have went twice this week! The prices can't be beat and they have specials during the week too. This place is amazing!! Good sized portions even better prices, and AMAZING service most of all. Both the man at the counter and the guy helping bring out food and buss tables where amazing people, really friendly and attentive! Super welcoming environment. Lots of seating inside and some outside. We also got 2 t shirts $20 each, good material and a lot of logo options as well. We got a hot dog- YUM, chicken fingers & fries- tons of fries and 4 really meaty chicken tenders, a burger that was so good and fresh toppings with a nice thick patty for $3 dollars and change, and a great bbq sandwich. Spankys is an old fashioned fast food joint, and I'm reviewing it as such. It really reminds me of the 80s style fast food places. Hubs had the burger with fries which he said was very good. I had a taco salad with grilled chicken and it was very fresh, a surprise at a fast food place known for burgers and dogs etc. Kids had hot dog and chicken finger stuff, what can you say about that except it looked hot, fresh and crispy?
