So. I have struggled with this restaurant for the past few years. I like the atmosphere. I want to like it. But I really don't for the price. We went for lunch on a Saturday. The server/bartender worked hard and was very nice... But I think she was the only server, period. This made service strained. But I repeat, she was working hard. Food. Mediocre at best. Remember, I keep trying to like this place. My wife's burger was about 2x the size if mine (all burgs were same size in menu) and did not come with accompaniments she asked for. Had to ask again and that took a while because server was overwhelmed. My burger was a pattymelt advertised on wheat. I like wheat for dietary reasons. Came on white. Pointed this out, new chef apparently. Chef should understand menu. So. Again. Another disappointment at this spot. After 8 years of trying... Maybe done. read more

Our FAVORITE restaurant in Downtown Appleton... absolutely delicious! A little pricey.. but so worth it for the amazing food.. we've had their fish - deep fried and pan fried- which is always great, we've also tried their steaks and this last time their mango chicken... wow! Absolutely fantastic! We went there last night to celebrate my birthday, and I had the best, and I mean best Ribeye with Bleu Cheese and Mushrooms! No Friday fish specials! This is Wisconsin,daaaa. Very slow service. Food bland and overdone. We had a party of 4. Everybody had a problem of some sorts with their food. Lots of other places in the area to go to. Even the Walgreens across the street would of been better. Not going back. read more

Good for a casual dinner and moderately priced. Friday night fish offerings are really good. However it gets pretty crowded. Go early or late. Be sure to check out the Spatio-- their outdoor patio. Love this place!!! Amazing everything. Don't let the spatio fool you if you're just driving by, it's very cozy and relaxing. The traffic isn't very noticeable once you're kicked back with a drink and food. Owners are the friendliest and many people are regulars. Very "Cheers" like. Spats has good bar food, and their dinner options have never disappointed. I often order the Herbie Burger, which is like a grilled cheese with a hamburger patty. The patio is a nice spot to enjoy a meal on a nice day. read more

NEVER AGAIN! "Muscling the old ladies" On Saturday, during Mile of Music a friend and I went to Spat's- ordered food and drinks in order to sit at a courtyard table, as was required. When a high top table next to us opened we moved over, as it was crowded and we were being jostled by people standing around us. We ordered another drink and told our waiter we would settle the tab as he said that we were now sitting in another waiter's area. At NO time were we told we could not move or would have to vacate the table. The new young waiter came up and asked, loudly- "Are you ordering food from me???" We explained we had eaten and had just settled our bill. He came back a few minutes later and very rudely shouted - you have to LEAVE- NOW. I asked to be able to finish my wine as we had paid and followed their policy. A manager came up, was somewhat polite until I again asked to be able to finish my wine --- and she said we must leave- NOW. She then signaled to a bull dog of a female 'bouncer' - who fast approached our table. UNBELIEVABLE. All of 10-15 minutes had passed at this table. I have NEVER been treated of witnessed service so uncouth and rude as this. I hope this comes to the attention of the owner as I will also report to Mile of Music. P.S. Though NO ONE should be treated this way, we are senior women, 69 and 73 yrs.... Really bad form, Spat's. read more

Really, Really disappointed. Heard a bit about this place and I really wanted to like it. Very clean, recent remodel - the owner cares about the looks...but sadly not about the quality of the food or ingredients. Ordered a chicken breast sandwich....wanted mushrooms with it....waitress almost had a fit... Bun was easily several days old (Fell apart) - chicken was fair...mushrooms CANNED - ate about a 1/3rd of it. I'm guessing I made the wrong choice...but come on....mushrooms from a CAN? Service was ok..... Feel ripped off and hungry Too many other places....for Sysco food - won't go back sadly. read more

I rated Spats at 3 stars because of the service. The food was very good, even though they forgot the feta cheese on my Meditteranean Chicken. The waitress took our order, served our food, but then forgot about us. The same thing happened last time with the same waitress! She acted as though she was afraid to get close to our table. Management needs to remind waitresses to check on their patrons midway during the meal. read more

Fish fry with the family, cheese curds were so good we got a second order. Cheeseburger was cooked well but my son did not like the peppered bacon- a bit too strong in flavor. Fish FYI platt was good- shrimp was cooked correctly. Crab cakes were unique. There was 5 small cakes deep fried instead of on the flat top- not too bad. read more

i've gone to Spats for fish since i was very young. have always ordered the broiled haddock. every time i've ordered broiled haddock anywhere else it does not compare. the wait time for friday fish is quite lengthy, but the fish is to die for. read more

Love their food, (both their lunch and dinner menus) particularly their Friday fish. Somewhat of a hidden gem on 'their end' of downtown College Ave, but you can't miss their occasional live music in their outdoor seating area.
