Decided on A5 because 1) it's got some great appetizers / starters, 2) love the servers there, and 3) was in the mood to chow down on a hunka-chunka serious steak, and for the first time get a tomahawk slab o' beef that I had seen before on the A5 menu. Came in early on a Thursday night (6:15 pm) so the place was losing its happy hour crowd and had not yet been swooped down on by the hip dinner crowd. A great time to go. Could not have been better. Started with their crab and shrimp dip app and Japanese milk bread, both of which are stand-out non-steak items on their menu. Ordered the tomahawk steak which is ridiculously large (over 40 ounces (10 of which is from the large rib bone)) and ridiculously good (and ridiculously expensive . . . as in like over $225), along with an order of asparagus. Loved it all. Of course, we split the steak and had no room for dessert. Brought home probably 10 ounces of meat along with some other leftovers which will give us another night of good at-home eating. Bottom line . . . wonderful experience. Pricey but they made it a true celebration for us and it was well worth it. Go. You'll have a great time there, and if you don't want to blow a bundle and its your first time at A5, check them out at happy hour. It's probably the best deal for the best HH food in Denver.

What was just okay: The $20 cocktails we got were fine, nothing spectacular and they didn't stand out in any way. My martini wasn't cold enough. The cheapest glass of wine is $16, which is exorbitant. We ended up spending $38 on two glasses of wine. Yikes. The broccolini and mac and cheese croquettes were fine, but not noteworthy. What we didn't like: We went with reservations at 6pm on a Wednesday and the restaurant was about 1/2 full. We were seated at a table directly next to the partition for the restrooms. I could smell the generic bathroom cleaner. I asked if we could be moved over to another table, and our request was accommodated, but we shouldn't have been seated at the worst table in the first place. The bathroom table remained empty for the two hours that we were there. The automatic "service charge" is fine but it explicitly says "it is not a tip or gratuity" which to me sounds like they want you to tip on top of the service charge. We were confused by the wording and I left an additional $10 which in hindsight I shouldn't have. The price point is too high for the food/ambiance/service. I know everywhere in Denver is expensive now, but a $350 dinner for two is exorbitant. Speaking of price point- they didn't even have nice soap in the bathrooms, it was the "pink soap" that you find at rest stops and gas stations. It's all in the details. We won't be returning which is a shame because the steaks were great, but spending that much can't be justified.

We started with the burrata based on Yelp reviews and they weren't wrong. Super fresh tasting, and the focaccia paired with it perfectly. It's an upcharge but worth it, and you aren't at a place like this to pinch pennies anyways. We both chose the rigatoni, we had a heavy lunch, and it was perfect. The sauce was deep and hearty and the pasta was exactly al dente. We split a strawberry guacamole sorbet and glad we did, it was larger than expected and absolutely delicious. We started with the wedge salad, which was fresh, crisp, and packed with flavor--easily one of the best wedge salads we've ever had. The warm bread service was incredible and paired perfectly with the house-made spreads. The mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and absolutely unforgettable. The highlight of the evening was the Wagyu steak topped with cheesy potato croquettes. It was cooked to perfection and so tender it practically melted in your mouth. Every bite was packed with incredible flavor and was one of those dishes you continue talking about long after the meal is over.
