We stopped into this place after jet skiing on the Siesta Keys. The guide at the jet ski agency suggested it as a one of the spot for locals with fresh seafood and live music. Apologies for no pictures, we were starving and dug in...but we had the fried grouper cheeks with aioli and the blackened shrimp poboy with a side of the tiki corn. The corn was amazing and so were the grouper cheeks. They were fried to perfection. I thought the poboy wasn't too bad either. Our order and service was pretty fast. Be mindful that all of their cocktails are pre made or come in a can, so I just had wine. First time trying Hogfish (blackened preparation) and it was excellent - buttery fish, similar to Mahi Mahi a little. Very tasty. The root vegetables that came with the fish were fantastic, and the "nachos" were good too. Market prices for fresh caught fish, so it was a bit pricey - the price for two hogfish sandwiches and nachos came out to around $100 - but quality was high. If you're looking for a great meal and you're good to splurge - you'll enjoy this little hole in the wall place that serves top notch food. read more

We stared off with the Conch Fritters and I really enjoyed them. Good balance of conch and breading. For my main I had the Hogfish Sandwich. I don't get Hogfish a lot and was really excited to have it. The fish was cooked perfectly and the portion was pretty big. Unfortunately I didnt get a pic of my sandwich but it's worth it. While staying on Siesta Key we rode our bicycles to Spearfish Grille. We were looking for fresh seafood with a locals type feel and we found it. We started with conch fritters. Our server was good and the fritters came out quickly. They were excellent. For lunch I had fish and chips (local caught Hog Fish). It was outstanding and the portion was generous. I ate every bit of it. They serve a vinegar based sauce on the side with it that is amazing. My wife had fried shrimp. Again, the shrimp was great. The hog fish is market price and a bit on the expensive side (for us) but hog fish is harvested by divers spearfishing so it's pretty labor intensive. Worth the money in my opinion! We have been here several times before our experience today and always thoroughly enjoyed our exceptional service and food. Today was different. We arrived early for lunch and were the only guests. We entered the dining room and were told that we can choose any seat. I asked the female server what the soup of the day was and the manager replied "black bean and chorizo". She asked him to repeat it, not understanding "chorizo" and then replied "whatever". That should've been our first clue. Major red flag. Since I had the ahi nachos on previous visits - both dining in the restaurant and takeout - and they were delicious, I decided to gladly order it again. The others in my party ordered the ahi sammy and the burger. My Aji nachos came smothered in wasabi aïoli and sitting in a pool of the soy glaze. They were completely over-cooked and hard, not light and flaky as they were previously. As she was walking through the dining room, our server looked over at us and said "how is your food?" and kept walking into the kitchen. She never paused or approached the table. We found that extremely odd - why would you ask and then keep walking and not bother to hear your customers response? I approached the man working behind the counter and gently asked if I could speak with a manager. He looked up and quite defensively said "I am." Completely not curious as to why I wanted to speak to a manager or asking me how he could help. I said I just wanted to give them a little feedback that the wonton nachos seem to be a little over-cooked. Now he was super defensive. I mentioned that maybe when a server asks how everyone is enjoying their food they don't just ignore them. The manager the. proceeded to follow me back to the table. It was painfully obvious that he was completely closed off to whatever constructive criticism I was giving him about my meal. He came over and looked at the nachos and said "I'll go check, but they look perfectly fine to me."Because of his honestly offensive attitude and demeanor, I simply explained that I just wanted to let them know. (You'd would think as a manager of an establishment that he would want to know if the food was a little off, no?) He responded "I thought we were having a conversation but if you just want to tell me things and don't want to hear my response, fine." At this point we were all completely baffled and honestly shocked by the way we were being treated by this absolutely unprofessional, inapt, rude manager. He was combative. He treated us like a nuisance. I have never in my life experienced such bad behavior from a manager in a restaurant. We asked for our check from our server ("Gigglefish") and as she returned with the credit card reader, he grabbed it out of her hand and said "I'll take care of that" and handed it to my mother who was paying. As she was figuring out the tip he said "if you want to give us a zero tip that's fine. We don't care.." What?? Who says that? As my mother proceeded to input the tip he mentioned that he removed the nachos from the bill. As we get ready to leave he came back to the table, leaned toward me and said "I'm sorry you didn't enjoy our food" and walked away. We left feeling really ripped off giving our money to an establishment that would allow such uncalled-for behavior towards customers, customers who would've returned for life if not for this bad apple. What an incredible little spot right by the fishing charter on the water. Went down to visit a friend who lives in the area and this is his go to spot and I can see why. Great little spot, friendly staff, good live music and great food. Could not believe how quick the food came out after being ordered. I did not get a picture of it but the coconut shrimp is a MUST order. It was actually such a good side order we ordered it again the next day for a lunch snack. I love their food but their service is absolutely terrible. Went the first time 1/2024 and server was absolutely terrible there was only 3 tables we even had to guess our bill to leave on the table. My mom and I aren't really seafood people at all...but we got the fresh hogfish dish and it was SO good! So buttery, none of the "fishy" taste. Great seasoning. The waitress (Jada) didn't return to our table for ten minutes after bringing us waters. We had to flag her down, and she said she didn't want to bother us because we were talking. We ordered our entrees with salads and one order was a shared pasta. Our entrees arrived before our salads? And we were missing one salad. Flagged down our waitress again. She said we didn't ask for our salads first?? Don't know why I have to ask for my salad first?? They bring out our salads and one was missing. They finally bring out the missing salad and it's half the size of the others. The split entree came out on one plate without an extra plate?? Asked for the manager and explained that we asked the server why we didn't get our salads first. She had no answer and said they serve the food that way. We said that's not the way any other restaurant does it. She then said I will get you a box and you can leave. No apology! Then says I told you I would take the salads off the bill. Came here two separate times and we all enjoyed our meals both times...The coconut shrimp were tender and were one of our favorites...we also likes the tuna nachos..I never eat anything raw but I tried them and ended up liking them...They were a bit on the sweet side...A nice dish to share with others I would say...I also for the Hogfish which can only be caught by spear...It was white meat slightly dense served with rice and beans...I enjoyed it and would get it again...Both nights they had musicians that were quite talented....The first night was a guy playing bass and he also had some kind of metal island type of drum..He could really jam and played well with an island flare...the second night was a guy on acoustic guitar playing GD, ABB, Little Feat, James Taylor, etc...His guitar sounded excellent as he really had it tuned it and could really play too...All the servers we dealt with were friendly and excellent. read more

Shrimp po'boy - shrimp very nicely fried, too much bread for the ratio to shrimp, I'd suggest other bread as there was plenty of shrimp (8) for $15. Group cheeks - very disappointing, dry and seasoning/batter was lacking in salt and taste, very bland coating. Drinks good. The daily fish was very expensive for sandwiches, platters and salad. Ask the price before you order as the board has no prices. We were expecting the fish to be a good price as they say they have there own boat. However, it's priced like a high end restaurant, a bit taking advantage. Would probably return for the fritters, but sadly not the fish at that price. read more

We stopped by spearfish grille after a long day at the beach. It's hidden back by a boat storage lot on the water. Kinda tucked in. Plenty of parking around. Spearfish specializes in local seafood and has a menu packed with local offerings. We had never tried stone crab claws so we eagerly ordered a couple. The flavor was delicious and really fresh. We also had the grouper cheeks. They are fried little bites of heaven which you dip in a spicy Mayo noms. Finally we tried the hogfish fresh catch. The presentation was ‍‍‍ and the flavor on point. A friend recommended this spot recently and with all our time in the key hadn't been so we had to go! We had a very short wait and had fabulous service. Drink options are limited to beer, wine and some canned cocktails so if you're looking for lots of frou-frou (no shade, I love a good froufrou drink!) options plan ahead for drinks before or after but don't skip this place! We both had the hog fish, called "filet of the sea" by Spearfish. Hubs wasn't so enamored as he loves a good filet and felt it wasn't quite what he expected. I thought it was perfect. The hog fish was served with perfectly cooked and seasoned broccolini (too many places under or overcook it) and a side of your choice. The Caesar for me was great and the rice& beans for my guy (asked for more rice and less beans and got just as he asked!). Live music every night here as it did not disappoint. They even have a gf cake that was amazing and several other delicious desert offerings! Hubs enjoyed some beers and I had a watermelon seltzer in a can. Not bad and perfectly refreshing in the outdoor setting. If you have a long wait there is a guy cooking up apps and it appeared that folks were ordering drinks from the bar while they waited. My wife is the Elite Yelper, and I usually leave this job to her. But she was not with me for this and I can't leave this meal unlauded. Who would have thought such a laid back place could have such incredibly fresh fish. It is all about the local fishing boats. I had the hogfish, butterflied and blackened. It has now replaced Chilean sea bass as my fav fish. Giovanni is fast and efficient, yet still manages to make the diner feel like a friend. Just before I left, they brought in a gorgeous hunk of ahi tuna. The buyer saw me eyeballing it and cut me off a generous portion, and proceeded to tell me how his boys had caught it between Key West and the Dry Tortugas. Food was good and staff is friendly- fresh seafood but many fussy dishes.Lots of cheeses and sauces. Ask in advance what 'market price is'. Prices are as high as the big seafood places in town and lobster roll is crazy expensive. Located in a parking lot right off the street and seating is small tables or picnic benches. Wearing beach attire is completely fine. The main drawbacks for us are the toilet facilities are outside the restaurant in the back and used by many non-customers and staff, and always seem to be busy! The other issue is the music. Some entertainers are good but all are extremely loud so don't expect to have a conversation with your table mates. The mixed drinks are from cans and the wine is bar quality. The beers are local and good. We only go on Saturday or Sunday before the music starts! read more

This is a pretty cool place Sitting outside listening to a good local singer playing a guitar, eating good food, drinking a good beverage, what a nice way to spend an evening. While my wife and I didn't quite pull that off, I think most people at Spearfish did, and five stars for that. It was busy this evening when we arrived, even though the season is technically over. Busy places are often good places. With all the seating outside taken, we sat inside. That was fine, it gave us a little more of a view of the restaurant operation itself, and we could still hear the music. As mentioned in other reviews, it is an order at the counter they bring you your food kind of place. Even with two registers going there was always a line. It appeared like there were just two people preparing the food. If that was the case they did an excellent job getting food out, "Order Up" heard quite often. Our order didn't take long, a food runner appearing at our table in around 10 minutes. I got their Gulf Shrimp Po' boy. Have I ever managed to eat a Po' boy without making a mess? I don't think so, and my streak was not broken this evening. I want to blame it on the thick sliced tomatoes making it too difficult to close the bread, but I'm the one with opposable thumbs, the tomato is just sitting there. Very early on I managed to have almost all my sandwich filling end up not in the sandwich, melted cheese about the only part that stayed put. I thought it was funny, and focused on reassembling and eating. There was no sauce, so it was not as messy as I could have achieved. The sandwich was good, the shrimp fresh. While the crust lacked crispiness, overall the bread was good for a Po' boy. The inside of Spearfish was comfortable, dollar bills hanging from the ceiling, a TV by the counter. Food runners were weaving through the line of people waiting to order. Being inside, we did miss the marina view of all the boats stored. I should mention we made parking difficult, driving up and down the road several times hoping a street parking spot would open up. We finally just parked across the street from Spearfish and paid the $5.35 parking fee for an hour. read more
