This is the type of place you stumble across, and am grateful later you did. We noticed Spearfish Grille while parking nearby and, after wandering for a few blocks, came back to give it a try. We started by chatting with some locals who'd just finished dining (always a good sign), and gave wholehearted endorsements. The beer was cold; ambiance, laid back. Food was near exquisite. Hogfish was melt-in-your-mouth good. Amberjack (the catch of the day) was perfectly tender and immensely flavorful. The lobster mac-and-cheese is a "do not miss." Grilled vegetables were robust. We will absolutely return next time we're in the area. If this level of quality is maintained, it won't be long before tables are hard to come by. read more

Casual dining at its best. The outdoor tiki hut is rustic but shady and comfortable. The service is outstanding. Would recommend the watermelon salad, grilled grouper sandwich and the exceptional gumbo. The plane is environmentally friendly down to the biodegradable forks and knives. read more

Had a great dinner here tonight and would highly recommend! I had never heard of a hogfish - glad I tried it because it was delicious. The fish was cooked perfectly. I got it blackened on the mixed greens salad. The blackening added a nice additional flavor without overwhelming the fish. I have a high bar for salads, and this one exceeded it. I also enjoyed the local IPA I ordered with. We got key lime pie to go, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was efficient and friendly. Great place to eat in Siesta Key, would definitely go back! It's casual, counter service and seat yourself. Nice if you're coming straight off the beach. I'm vegetarian, so I got the veggie tacos and the Florida Mesclun Salad. The tacos were solid, the salad was really good. My mother raved about the grouper sandwich, said it was the best she'd had. The staff were a bit overwhelmed while we were there, but overall it was excellent food for pretty reasonable prices and a nice, casual atmosphere. read more

Unfortunately this place was very disappointing. This place is not full service. Instead, you get menus, then go inside to order your food at the counter, and then they bring it out to you when it's ready. Staff was friendly and decor is super cute. BUT... food was nothing special, and WAY OVERPRICED for what you get. We tried their recommended fried grouper sandwich. Several members of our table ordered it. GEESH, the breading was so thick, and HARD, it was terrible. I actually pulled it all off the fish, which was very easy because it was so thick. The appetizer crab claws were good. Lobster tacos were OK, but nothing special. We also tried the oyster poor boy, which was decent. Overall, food was below average, and very overpriced. I guess the tourists might like this place, it's on Siesta Key and near the marina - but, locals know there are much better seafood restaurants in the Sarasota area. Won't be back! read more

Yum yum yum! Came across this place walking in the morning - walked back for dinner after a day at the beach. Our favorites were the blue crab claws, calamari and blackened grouper sandwich!! The hogfish was worth trying since it's caught by spear. Being from WI - the land of the Friday fish fry 52 weeks a year, it was good, but we have comparable quality fried fish. Almost came back today for the first three items mentioned they were that great!!! Service was OUTSTANDING -- very attentive workers so we tipped them well. The palm plates and utensils were fine to me -- if you have issues with wooden popsicle sticks (like nails on a chalkboard type problem), you should stick to the food not needing a fork to eat, which for us was only a side salad. Will be back - our new SK fave!! read more

My husband and I were looking for something new (for us) on Siesta Key as we tend to visit the same places on every visit. Boy, am I glad we chose Spearfish Grille! We started with the fried grouper cheeks. Meaty, and perfectly seasoned. These were hot, fresh, and perfectly cooked. We ordered a fried hogfish sandwich and a fried cobia and split them. We'd initially done this to see which was the "winner," but agreed we'd probably just order the exact same thing the next time, if available, and split the sandwiches again. I've eaten at plenty of local, independent seafood restaurants before, but in this day and age, many of those restaurants are having their seafood supplied by a commercial distributor, just like the rest of their food. This restaurant highlights their use of fish from their own fleet and of other local fishing boats. Let me tell you, as someone who has grown up enjoying fresh catch as well as eating at seafood restaurants, you can 100% taste the difference. Love their commitment to the environment and their use of pressed palm plates, wooden disposable cutlery, and corn-based biodegradable plastic cups. We look forward to coming back when we're not headed out of town, so we can sit back and enjoy our meal with some of the local craft beers they have on tap. Went there for dinner. We had the hog fish and the triple tail. Both were prepared excellently and sauces were great. The added side salad and potato side dishes were very nice and all the portions were nice as well. I would have given this place a four star but the prices are over the top. You have to order at the counter and all sides are extra and $32 for hog fish with no sides is not worth it. Won't be back. read more

Great little place for informal dining. Loved the order taking process--order and have a seat. Staff was very friendly. The coconut shrimp was delicious and I would definitely get it again. The shark taco was good, and though I got a piece with gristle I could tell how fresh it was. A little more fish and a little less beans on the taco would've made it just about perfect. Such great food! We ordered a ton and didn't regret it. I recommend the grouper cheeks, any of the fish tacos, and for sure the conch fritters. Only left off a star because our server was rude. Arrived for dinner and was asked for a credit/debit card, which was returned, while getting drinks and a menu. Following dinner I paid in cash and upon my return home discovered $20.00 was removed from my checking account without any authorization. I called the following day explained the problem and asked to speak to someone in charge and was told no one was available and left a message. Waited two days and phoned again and was told no one was available. Left a message and was assured someone would contact me about the withdrawl. Still waiting after three days............. read more

This place should rock. Pleasant staff, friendly. Fresh fish...what more do you want. However the food looks good bit falls short. Maybe it was what I had. Lobster corn fritters.... beautiful fried brown, but still tried to find the lobster and managed to see 3 or 4 corn kernels. The grouper cheeks an all time favorite first came out with pooled grease. Staff were accommodating however next looked better but on picking them up ...more grease. I guess they just don't have the technique down. After a few paper towels, they became somewhat edible. A new casual restaurant tucked away on quiet Old Stickney Pont Rd, adjacent the Siesta Key Marina, this gem opened its doors on March 9. The menu is diverse, offering fresh, locally caught seafood, draft beers and moderately priced wine, along with land lubber fare as well. We weren't super hungry, so we ordered from the appetizer section, being rewarded with very large lobster frittatas and a fantastic file gumbo, chock full of shrimp, sausage, okra, and a marvelous syrupy broth that evokes thots of bayou country! There are several tables indoors and a fairly large outside dining area. There is no doubt we will be regulars here, as the food is excellent and the service is personal and very attentive. read more
