Love this shop! I have been going to this beautifully setup, always full of stock bicycle shop for only about 6 months. They have a great staff that are all very knowledgeable as well as courteous. Especially as a beginner in the "biking" world, I have always been treated great by any of the staffers. First off, I'd like to say they have a great selection of bikes. If you need to get in and out, not a bad place to go! Very serious cyclist oriented. However, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, especially when compared to Helen's just down the road. The staff is rather snotty about biking and as a new bicyclist, felt like I was being talked down to. I came in having done my research on bikes and was looking to spend $2000 - $2500 on a nice carbon fiber Specialized Roubaix bike, so it's not like I was a clueless person who had no idea what I wanted and was wasting their time. Here is a summation of my experience: 1. Came in looking at the Specialized Roubaix and explained I have lower back issues and needed more of an endurance (geometry) bike. Instead, the salesperson pulled out a performance bike (Specialized Tarmac) for me to try. 2. When I asked questions about the bikes, the answers I got were way too technical for me. I explained this is my first road bike purchase, but the salesperson didn't bother coming down to explain things to me in a way that I'd understand it. 3. Salesperson left halfway through helping me to help another customer. 4. Salesperson told me I could only test the bike in the parking lot, which is very, very small and not adequate for testing what is a relatively expensive purchase. 5. Salesperson didn't give me my drivers license and credit card (deposit to test ride the bike). Salesperson was too focused on trying to sell me the bike as I walked out. 6. Came back to the store to retrieve my drivers license and credit card and got a half hearted apology from them. I actually slightly preferred the Specialized Roubaix (sold by Cynergy) when I rode it compared to the Trek Domane (sold at Helen's around the corner). However, if I'm going to support a local bike shop, it's going to be one I like and treats me right. I ended up happily buying from Helen's instead, who have been so nice every time I've been in the market for a bike (beach cruisers previously). As you can tell, I had a pretty bad experience. Judging by the reviews for Cynergy, it seems like I am in the minority, so it may have just been a one-off situation. Take this post into consideration, but definitely still stop by to at least check it out when looking at bikes. read more

well they get one star for being nice and talking to me about my bike jumping gears. and they also only get one star for telling me they don't work on department store bikes. when i asked why not, he said the same thing again. they just don't. all i needed was a gear adjustment. read more

Best service dept - bought a great frame/shocks/wheels deal and built the drivetrain myself. When the bike had some shock issues (their's) and set up issues (mine) the service manager made it right, patiently explained and helped with the set up issues (who knew a chain can be installed backwards?!?). Just had a terrible experience there. Test drove a bike around the block, I really liked it and decided I was going to buy it. However, when I came back around the block to return the bike to the store. Another salesman came over and said that another customer in that store decided to buy it after seeing me ride it. Very disappointed with my first experience here. I came here after doing my research online in the process of finding the nearest authorized dealer for a very rare bike. I finally found out that they really did in fact sell this bike in-store. As I was looking to purchase the bike, they started trying to up-sell the value and exploited the no-tax sale that they were doing. As a very avid biker who knew exactly what to buy, they kept insisting that I buy more things. It eventually got up to the point that I just dropped all business with them and left the store. For someone who was willing to spend at least 10,000 dollars, I've never been so put-off by customer reps. I should've went to Velo Pasadena or Serious Cycling to begin with (also authorized dealers for the same bike I was looking to purchase). read more

I was so excited to finally step up and get a road bike. I was told to go to Cynergy as they sold the Specialized Ruby. When I got there I was greeted by Will. He proceeded to help me, and it seemed like he was being helpful. After trying a few sizes he realized that he didn't have my size in stock but would bring one in for me to try. Sounded great!! In the mean time, I was going away to bike in Mammoth and he said he wound have me rent their demo bike but wanted to make sure it was available but...for SURE I'd have something to take with me over the weekend. I called three days in a row to find out if I'd have something to rent, yes for sure again, just call on Friday. Well when I did call on the day I was leaving, I was told that it was Will's day off and he didn't tell anyone about having a bike for me and nothing was available. I was so upset, I had to go with my group of riders without a bike. To date, one week later I haven't even heard from him or the store. I guess they didn't want to sell a $2000+ bike. I went to Performance bikes on Broadway in Santa Monica and bought a bike. They all were so helpful, especially Angel who was a doll and spent hours with me. read more

Retail shop is great. My complaint is with the bike fits I received on two bikes over the last 3yrs. As I increased my mileage and training, I started noticing pains in knee and foot. I felt my feedback was not taken seriously and ended up with a severe knee injury. After doctor visits, PT work and a lot of questions and research, I found other fit specialists who helped me tremendously. The fit I have now is VERY different from that of cynergy and am riding pain free for the first time. There is technology out there that can help. Cynergy does not have this technology. Nice place. Very slick and flashy. Decent prices. Congenial staff. Customer service is the worst. Bought a bike. It was ordered. Came late.I had to call to find out what was going on. The bike came sans a front brake that was part of the deal. After a month of calling these guys and talking to about six different people, I forced the issue by showing up and demanding the brake. It was put on after a grudging admission and then I was treated as if they did me a huge favor by installing what was paid for already. Next time go to a place less flashy and more reliable such as Helen's Cycles. read more

Sweet! A bike shop that has deviated away from the trend of being super pretentious with people that have hairy legs-- not saying that I have hairy legs or anything. Anyways, I stepped in the Cynergy on a quiet Wednesday, and as I walked in I was quickly greeting with a "hello", and "how many I help you", which I think is essential in every customer service oriented store. The interior of the store is nicely put together with bikes in one part of the store, shoes in one part, sunglasses in another part, etc. They carry an array of HIGH END parts, such as Specialized, BMC, Capo, Look, so remember have a pretty fat checkbook before you come in here. Basically, they carry everything you need for bicycles, such as bikes(DUH), tubes, service, shoes, clothing, food, sunglasses, etc. Again, I must reiterate the customer service is SUPERB-- they know what they're talking about, and are happy to bestow their almighty bike knowledge onto you. I've been here numerous times for stupid fixes, and they're super friendly about it( not giving me the "wtf" look) . Me and some of the dudes love to crack sexual jokes pertaining to bikes, which just adds more brownie points to their great customer service ambiance they provide. These guys were at CicLAvia today in Downtown LA in front of City Hall. They helped me with my bike (for FREE). I was so grateful for the wealth of information the guy had for me (bummed I didn't get his name tho) so I told him I'd give him a shout out on the web. He put a new tube in my tire, explained my bike to me, and gave me some pointers on what needs to be fixed. Thank you SO MUCH! Cynergy cycles is quite simply amazing. Twice I have bought high end mountain bikes from these folks and Jim, Ben, and Willie have been nothing but helpful and exceedingly generous! They take their time to make sure the bike is set up right, that I schedule the necessary follow-up maintenance, and simply really good guys to boot. Highly recommend these folks. Too bad, this place could be good, but its not. Prices are hard to deal with, everything is way over msrp. They say they make up for it with service. Not sure what service they are talking about. They are busy and understaffed, they don't have time for you unless you are spending big bucks, even then they try to upsell you. They are usually out of what you need. If you like specialized then this is a good place, but I would go for a better made bike for less at helens personally. Helens are very helpful and quick to service. read more

They refused to repair my bike. It seems that they have some subjective standard about which bikes are good enough for them to repair. I was very surprised and asked to speak to the manager. The best he could do was refer me to the Bicycle Ambulance, which did the repair for less and doesn't discriminate based on the appearance or age of your bike. read more

The place is typically busy when I am there but I have always been helped and the staff is friendly. This shop is the real deal. A friend of mine recommended this place so I went after work. Went directly to the service area where the bike tech was and explained my story. He was not only very informative and understanding but he helped me stay within my budget while still getting what was needed done to the bike. I had a great experience at Cynergy. I may be biased because I won a Nirve cruiser from them as part of their June anniversary celebration, but they nicely let me try out a whole bunch of mountain bikes and explained the differences/benefits of each one. I ended up making two visits, getting the cruiser and some accessories and they were accommodating at every turn. Helped me put the accessories on the bike, checked to make sure everything was secure and never pressured me or made me feel like an idiot. I'm a recreational rider (I don't race or compete at all) and mostly ride in the city, but I ride a lot, so I appreciate a shop that helps me with the simple things, doesn't mind answering questions and is generally friendly and welcoming. I'm surprised to hear about bad customer service in other reviews, cuz I certainly received or witnessed none of that. I wish they carried more brands, but I am partial to Specialized stuff anyway, so I know I'll be back. read more

Bought a bike from this great shop 3 years ago. More than helpful in building it and fitting it. Liked them so much that whenever I need more than a gu, I head there from the Valley. Just had them swap components from one bike to a frame I bought from frame. They were very helpful in encouraging and discouraging me from certain purchases I needed to make in order to complete the conversion. Never tried to upsell me. Spent several hours ensuring the newly built bike was properly fit and even lent me a stem while they waited for one to come in. They wanted me to enjoy the new bike. In my quest for the perfect bike, I have frequented Helens and Velo and Bicycle John's in the last few weeks and the customer service at Cynergy far surpassed the others. Unbelievable service that harkens back to a time when service mattered. The only thing missing was the salesmen in uniforms, bowties and hats. Will and Rico spent over two hours answering every question and then some, and just as importantly, they did so happily and with enthusiasm. The owner came by and asked how things were going and so did the manager. At no time did they bad mouth competitors, to the contrary, they said positive things about other stores and the brands of bikes they did not carry. They did not pressure us to buy lots of gadgets and even saved us money by showing us what we didn't need to buy in the way of a bike rack for our truck. Happy and smiling faces throughout the store. I wish they could bottle their passion and enthusiasm and share it with a city built for speed rather than the comfort of the customer. read more

Cynergy is probably the most friendly and knowledgeale staff of any westside bike shop hands down. I have purchased one complete road bike, one cyclocross frame and many parts and jerseys from them. All quality stuff, they only stock the good stuff (albeit pricey, but I knew that). Overall, I've been very happy with the staff there and always feel welcomed when I stop by. The layout of the shop is very attractive. They are a Specialized Bike Concept store and it shows. Being that, they carry mostly Specialized, so be aware of that before you go in (No Trek or Cannondale). A pleasant surprise is that they carry Bianchi and Ridley. Dealers have been dropping Bianchi over the years, so good to find a shop that still sells them. As I briefly mentioned, things here can be pricey, It's definitely a higher end shop compared to general bike shops like Helens or Performance. So don't be surprised by the $7000 bikes and $200 bib shorts. The shop is ideal for the Westside cycling crowd, which is more fitness oriented in riding goals. Eastside fixie kids won't find much for them here, as it's more fitness than style bling vibes (go to LA Brakeless in Mar Vista if you are fixie kid). My only one minor criticism of Cynergy, is more a general one about many bike shops. Sometimes it's hard to get rung up if you just want to buy a tube or a pair of gloves. Cynergy operates like many shops, where you are rung up by the sales person who was helping you all along since you came in. Typical sales practice. The problem is that the shop gets busy on the weekends and all the sales staff is helping on test rides or answering questions on the floor and since there is no dedicated cashier, you just have to wait til one the sales staff frees up from a current customers to run over to check you out. As much as I like the place and it's like Cheers cause everyone knows my name when I walk in, I have had to walk out after waiting 40 minutes on several ocassions to pick up a tube or small part. It just seems like a strange kink for a retail store to have an unreliable way to literally taking free money from people who just want to pay for something. Helens Cycles avoids this by having a dedicated cashier at the counter who is always ready to take free money from people. read more
