Sweetest doctor, fixed my prescription, was able to see me on very short notice, great experience

First and foremost. Had an appointment at 4 for my son, got there early, checked in and sat down. The front desk receptionist said I'd be seen shortly. 30 minutes go by and I can hear the doctor chatting away with the patient. Like talking about life and other crap that has nothing to do with an eye appointment. So I ask the front desk if I will be seen soon and he basically gave me the " she's running late and I could just cancel and come back another time " shpeal, so I was just annoyed to start. I waited 45-50 minutes to be seen. Secondly, my child has ADHD and comprehension issues. So when she was checking his eyes, she was asking him questions really fast. And of course, he was confused, so when I proceeded to clarify the question she asked him to answer, she shushed me and told me to " stop helping" and I told her to basically clarify what she means because clearly he doesn't understand what shes saying. Once I clarified he was answering the questions thoroughly. And not to mention, compared to the previous appointment she had, ours took about 15 minutes. Whereas we spent like 45 minutes waiting in the lobby for the previous appointment. She's not professional at all and feels like she doesn't know what she's doing. Felt so rushed, I'm hesitant to trust the prescription. Needless to say I will be making another appointment elsewhere to do a recheck. Moral is, this place is sus. Literally smells awful when you walk inside. And the doctor needs to get recertified or investigated. Shady business all around read more

I took my glasses in after several months realizing that they were defective. Dr. Hoang did not stand behind her product, she tried to play it off as if I was lying. finally she did say she would do half price on a new frame. When I clarified what she was saying, and said I would do that and write a yelp review; she told me to leave. I did and here is the review. read more

Recently did a walk in. They took my VSP insurance and accepted last minute walk in appointment even though doctor was busy with clients. I found the doctor to be very humble and kind hearted person that gives one on one attention. You can tell she cares about her career and helping people. I also felt she was experienced, was able to figure out my exact prescription within 10 minutes. (Other doctors have taken way longer) Receptionist was good with answering questions. Office pretty small and cozy. Not a huge selection of glasses but sometimes that makes it easier to narrow down a pair instead of having too many to choose from. Overall, it's a decent place. $200 total for exam and glasses with VSP insurance. (Beats the $500 I paid last year at Lens crafters!) read more

Owner is super shady! She will try too sell you anything to get an extra buck!! I took my son in we picked out some glasses that I wasn't happy about but honestly they were the only that didn't completely cover his whole face! I wasn't happy about the choice so I went else where! 30 mins after my appointment I called them back asking if I could get a refund. She said no refund but I could exchange them. I went in to exchange them for the ones the insurance covered and she decided to give me a refund but says I won't be allowed to be serviced here anymore. My son is 4!! This is how's she's treating a child! She would rather refuse service than help us out! read more

Dr. Vanessa Hoang is the best optometrist I've had in years. I have broken my glasses many many times and she has been so helpful with making sure I am taken care of. Like many of other negative reviews, I recommend everyone to steer clear from this optometrist and find somewhere else to go. I called them ahead of time (on behalf of my wife) to ask how much the contact lens exam and contacts were going to cost. They were not transparent with pricing and just told me: "trust us, our prices are very competitive". Stupid me for trusting them. On top of the $220 insurance allowance, they charged my wife $200 extra for 2 boxes of 12 monthly contacts. Summary: $420 for a contacts lens exam + 24 contact lenses Since they wont say: - Their contact lens exam is $199 (my plan has a 15% discount on that price) - Contacts (acuvue vita monthly) where $130 dollars per box. For reference, Costco sells them for $81 and optiocontacts.com sells them for $50 (that is the cheapest I found and would highly recommend them) read more

I feel like I should warn people not to go here. I've been going to this place for the last 2 years and thought it was good, but I now realize how terrible this place is. If you have VSP through Medical, call them and ask for a different place that will take your insurance. First off, I was having terrible eyelid inflammation and dryness and itching, the Optometrist told me it was from overwearing my contact lenses... this doesn't make any sense?! I went to an Opthamologist who diagnosed me with eczema after months of being in pain from being misdiagnosed. Second, I've just been diagnosed with an eye disease, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and possibly AMD. This would have been caught 2 years ago if the Optometrist had an OCT machine to take pictures of the back of my eye. She is so rushed that she didn't even dilate my eyes. Go to a place that has an OCT machine and it could save your eyesight. read more

Was scheduled an eye exam for January 2nd, 2018 at 11:45 am but when I got there at 11:27 am they weren't even opened so I drove 20 minutes from my house for nothing. It was silly how they even had a sign taped on the front door notifying people who came there that they weren't going to be open on Sunday, December 31, 2017, Monday, January 01, 2018, and January 02, 2018. Thanks for wasting my time and energy even before we had a chance to meet. Will not be coming here ever again. UPDATE: So my Grievance Letter from Santa Clara Family Health Plan arrived and it stated that this place claimed they actually contacted me several times to "reschedule". Well, 1) I never received any such calls around the end of the year once my appointment was made, 2) how about NOT FKNG UP the first time so you don't actually waste people's time? Thanks! Yeah, I know the ethnic background of these people at this office and I understand they would say anything to save their ass, Oh, excuse me, reputation. That's a common thing among shady Asians. I went here for a full eye checkup and eyeglasses prescription. The eye checkup didn't include pupil dilation; I don't know if that's normal or a sign of an incomplete checkup. Through the process of getting a prescription, I did my best trying to get a clear image but my view through the big glasses never felt right. When I tried my new glasses based on the prescription, I could immediately tell it was wrong, with a blurry and awful result. I made a follow-up appointment to find the problem, bringing the new glasses with me. The optometrist never even glanced at them, saying that the quality control on glasses ordered online is so bad it's not worth checking them out for a single second. Their idea of a follow-up on a wrong prescription was just to go through the same process again, which couldn't possibly accomplish anything other than confirm that their process had not changed since the last prescription... which I had informed them was wrong. Then they sent me on my way, with two incorrect prescriptions and some glasses that aren't right for me. Bad prescriptions, low effort, didn't listen to me, total waste. read more

Took my son in for a 10:30 appointment. Arrived a few minutes early. The Dr had not arrived and the receptionist told me to 'take a walk' as the dr was a little late. There was not much to see in the small strip mall so we came back after a few minutes. Asked receptionist when dr will arrive, was told 'few minutes'. The dr eventually arrived 45 minutes after our scheduled appointment. No apology was offered. The dr did a vary basic exam and gave a prescription. Told me that my son did not need to have a thorough exam since his eyes are healthy. By that time I was so upset I just wanted to leave. The receptionist then tried to sell me some very expensive and ugly frames - total cost over $300. Don't bother going here. Very unprofessional, lousy service. Can do better at Costco optic center. read more

Happy with my results. I am far sighted and near sighted and have had issues in the past trying to fix both. Prior to Dr Vanessa, my glasses caused eye strain and since my job requires a lot of computer use and paper documents, I have had to tolerate this for years. When I told her of my issues, she adjusted my prescription to reduce the strain. What a difference that made. It has been about two years now and I am glad she was able to help. I first called the office in July because I was due for an eye exam and because I wanted to order more contacts. When I got there, reception staff was very friendly and the Dr. did not keep me waiting long. Somehow the Dr. interpreted my desire to order more contacts as me wanting a full contact lens evaluation, which I found out (after the exam was done) cost $170 and was not covered by my insurance. I was annoyed, but the Dr. claimed my prescription had changed and gave me some contact samples to try out. I came back a week later because the contacts were straining my eyes and didn't feel right, so the Dr. Re-evaluated my vision and found that my vision HADN'T changed after all. So I paid $170 for nothing! And I didn't even order any contacts because I was annoyed with how the whole experience went. I made the mistake, then, of ordering new lenses for my glasses based off the incorrect prescription. This cost $217 and took over two weeks to happen. I soon realized that the prescription was wrong when I was in class and couldn't see the board properly (I'm beginning graduate school full time in a month so this is obviously a huge issue). Today I'm going back to the office to voice my displeasure at spending nearly $400 to learn that my prescription hasn't changed and to be majorly inconvenienced. Based on other reviews I'm not hopeful about getting my money back but I will certainly not be doing business here anymore. Update: spoke with Dr. Vanessa today and she claims that since I went through insurance for my new lenses, I cannot get a refund. I may follow up with my insurance company to clarify. In the mean time, she is putting my old lenses back in my frames free of charge, and also gave me two weeks worth of contacts. I'm disappointed that I couldn't get a refund, but I'm hopeful that getting my old lenses back will at least be good. I'm planning to do an annual eye exam elsewhere though! read more

Matter of fact, I dug into it a little and if you click on the link (later in the review) and look at the filtered reviews, you'll see a lot of great reviews for this company. My experience is that I don't need glasses. I stopped by because I needed some new Oakley's and I heard they have Oakley's on display. They did. They had a nice selection, spent some time helping me pick them out, suggested styles for cycling and riding a motorcycle, and Tommy was great at helping me pick a pair which fit my face! I had an extermely unprofessional experience today at this place. They dont honor appointment times and are not sorry for such behavior. If u value your time, go somewhere else. I had an appointment booked for 2 pm and had verified that I should be done by 3pm. I reached promptly before 2 pm to find 6 people waiting in the waiting area. I asked the very rude receptionist how long it will take for the doctor to see me and she tried to delay and ignoring me as long as possible. After repeated asking she was unapologetic and said it will take more than 1 hour for me to see the doctor at which point I just decided to leave. read more

I do not know what happened to my review from 2 years ago. Well she gets another great one, because she deserves it. I just went back to visit the Dr. and I was reminded why I go there. I have horrible vision and most doctors try to just get me in and out, but not here. The Dr. took her time to try and get me the most accurate prescription she could. I have been wearing glasses for more than 30 years, and she and Tommy have done nothing but be professional. Negative star. Don't go there. I went there last year and after some simple exam, they charged me $150 for the exam. That left me to cover the actual goods fully out of pocket. This year, I went to a different place. Their service is 3x more comprehensive and comfortable, and they charged only $55 for the exam, fully covered by insurance. Knew my eye sight was starting to weaken and it had been 5+ years since my last checkup. A friend referred me here. Easy parking. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Eye exam was thorough and I received a prescription for my stigmatism. Plenty of glasses to choose from and they helped me pick out a great looking pair. Very important for me, especially because this is my 1st pair. I also get compliments from all my friends and family on the way they look on me. I saw Dr. Vanessa H. couple of years ago and paid cash for both distance and reading glasses and I wrote a great review for her (which I can't find now). After visiting DMV few weeks ago, I was told by DMV, I need to change my distance glasses. I immediately made appt with Dr. Vanessa H. and saw her the next day. She suggested I need to change both distance and reading glasses and charged me$250(which I paid cash /in full) on my Dr visit on june 1st. On june 14th, I went back to pickup my glasses. Both glasses (reading and distance) were extremely uncomfortable. But she said, my eyes will adjust to the new lenses soon. I came home and my friend told me that she remembers the frame I picked for my distance glasses, were grey and tiny/small shape vs what Dr. H. gave me which was dark red w/big frame work! I said that is my least problem. Because lens for left eye is extremely blurry and I can see better withOUT glasses by my LEFT eye and the frame of the distance glasses looked defected (shifted to left) and not evened out on my face. I called Dr H. and shared my concerns and made appt and saw her on june 22nd. I explained every single problem with my distance glasses. She examed my distance vision and agreed she needs to order new lens for my Left eye and asked for extra $50 and I said: NO! and she tried to convenience me that the glasses were not defected and right one, I paid for. I said:NO. She said: Ok i will order new lens for your Left eye with new frame. She promised to fix the problem and guaranteed to deliver correct lens and said btw your eyes will look the same size in the mirror (eventhough the right eye is weaker). Today, june 29th, I picked up my distance glasses and the left eye is still blurry with new glasses(without glasses my left eye is better) and my left eye looks smaller than my right eye (I asked two other people to check the size of my eyes, by looking at me with glasses on, they said my left eye looks smaller) and my reading glasses are loose and the nose rubbers are loose. I told front desk helper/Eddie all my concerns before I left Dr. office and he said he will tell the Dr. (She was with patient). I drove home with new glasses and I hardly could see the street signs. Dr. H. is very dishonest. She gave me a weak lens for my left eye. All she did was changing frame for my distance glasses. But she didn't re-order new lens for left eye and I am not comfortable driving with them and also my left eye looks smaller, in the mirror and my reading glasses are loose on my nose and still not comfortable to read with %100. read more

Feeling sad that I have to write a somewhat negative feedback for this place. I have been Dr. Vanessa's patient for years. I took my eye exam and got my glasses here every year, and I have been happy with that. Back in those days when Tommy was her assistant, this place would have been given five stars (5 years ago). Unfortunately, Dr. Vanessa couldn't find any comparable assistant since Tommy left. This year, the new assistant was the worst I had seen. I feel like she is more like a saleswoman of expensive designer frames than an person who really cares for my vision. I was pushing to buy multiple pairs of glasses just because I have good insurance coverage, instead of whether I need those glasses. When I noticed that the frames are outrageously overprice. I cut back and say I can only afford one pair. Her smile just goes away and acts like she is not interested in assisting me anymore. I wanted Dr. Vanessa T. Hoang to check my eyes for any possible problem, but during my scheduled in advanced appointment she did not do anything except to prescribe me new glasses. Her explanation was- she sent equipment for test and that is why she cannot do her job ??? I paid for my visit and my insurance cover only 1 in a 2 year visit to the such kind of specialist. She basically took my money for doing nothing and she did not tell me that she will be out of her equipment when she did schedule my appointment. This Doc just want to take your money by selling to you glasses from her optometric center, but does not care much about you and your eyes. lets just say I have been wearing glasses for over 27 years now. i have a very strong prescription, which means i have very high needs. The job they have done for me has surpassed all of expectations. Dr. Hoang was extremely patient and explained everything completely. I recently got my first pair of progressives from them. I was a little apprehensive at first because the Dr said it could take up to a month to get use to them. But, I was relieved when they were comfortable the very first time I put them on. Tommy, their office manager helped with the selection of the frame and it was very close to my old pair which I also got from them a few years ago. When I got home, my wife said that they looked nice so overall, it went very smoothly. It has been a few months now and I am still happy with the results. Whenever I called them and tried to check the status, they promised me the glasses will be available next week but it was actually not. My boyfriend had an appointment in September he was experiencing migraines. Alma and Vanessa were very kind, courteous and professional. He was using over the counter readers, never had glasses. They spent time with him, picked out a great pair of glasses within our budget (no Vision insurance) he's been happy and has not experienced any headaches. In December I decided to stop in and see for myself their selection, they were so wonderful with him that I thought I'd check it out. I made an appointment for the following week. I had been going to the same doctor for over 6 years. The staff are so helpful, thorough and I have been referring my friends. Terrible. I was called to come pick up glasses and I arrive thinking they will be open. They were closed, had their "open" sign turned on and their hours clearly said 10:30a to 6p and we got there at 5. Was not happy at all.
