P & L looked over my car for about an hour and discovered the other company had damaged my oil pan drain plug. They replaced the drain plug and charged me $5.07. Yes, that is Five Dollars and Seven cents. (That includes tax.) There was also the time I bought bad gas and my car kept sputtering. They installed fuel injector cleaner (that time it cost me close to $9.) They have saved me a number of times. Like the time my car would not start when I was in Schaumburg. I refused to have anyone in Schaumburg look at my car, so I had it towed all the way to P & L. (It was just the battery, but the battery was so dead, my car would not even take a jump). P & L only fixes what is necessary, so I usually leave pleasantly surprised as to the cost of the repair. They provide a quote before making any major repairs and they always give the parts back. Except that one time my belt shredded so bad, it looked like string. I did not get the belt back. One thing for sure, they are honest!! If you decide to have them work on your car, call ahead and make an appointment and be prepared to leave the car there. They are a small operation. Sure if you have an emergency (and I have had a few), they will do their best to get you out the same day. I have also waited in their lobby a few times when they were changing the oil. They said no one can properly change your car's oil in a few minutes. An oil change is the time mechanics are suppose to give your car a quick check to make sure everything looks okay. I won't trust my car to anyone else.

They left the car sitting outside and the rims were damaged so bad I had to send them to a rim shop and have them disassembled and new rings put on them at a cost of $3200. Just mind blowing how disrespectful this shop is with peoples vehicles. For your own sake stay far away from this shop!

Even though one coworker likes to use them for our corporate vehicles, FOR SHEER CONVENIENCE (since they are 2 blocks from our office), the rest of the employees remain skeptical, and are consistently overcharged for unnecessary work. They are reluctant to give estimates, and always manage to "find" more things wrong with the company cars, especially since this review has been posted. Recently, I needed new brake pads for my front tires. To save some money, I picked them up at an auto parts store and brought them in. They said they would change them. Later that day, I got a call saying I needed new rotors as well. I asked how much everything would be, and I was told $160. For parts and labor for changing out brake pads and supplying and installing rotors, it seemed a little high, but I had no reason not to trust them. Just to compare, I went online, and saw that rotors with a 2-year warranty were only $31 a piece. Feeling a little worried, I called back within 5 minutes to confirm the price was for everything, and I was told, no just the rotors themselves, no labor!! $160 versus $62. I asked if I could purchase the rotors and bring them in the next day, and they said it was too late - they were already installed. Five minutes later and I was screwed. I called Mazda to see how much rotors were, and was told that they were, in fact, about $80 a piece, but if another shop installed them, there was no warranty. That's just great. I asked what the likelihood was that an auto repair shop would have them lying around, and I was told it was highly unlikely. So if they were actually factory rotors, like they claimed they were, they wouldn't just be hanging around unless they were an ordering mistake or sheer luck (sorry, doubtful). I felt very taken advantage of. When I told them money was tight and I didn't know I would be able to pay, I was told not to worry, pay when I could, and they wouldn't bother me about it. I picked up my car and found out the credit card I don't use a lot was expired, again I was reassured to give them a call when I could pay. How ironic they called me the very next morning to get a new credit card number from me. A coworker managed to get the price down, when they wouldn't do a thing for me. Which helped. But sadly, I won't be back.

I spent over $2,000 on a catalytic converter replacement for my 2012 Audi Q5, and the repair never…read moreresolved the original issue. The car continued throwing emissions and catalyst codes almost immediately afterward. I eventually took the vehicle to two independent Audi specialists. Both told me they were shocked by how much I had been charged for the converter Meineke installed. Both also told me they did not believe that converter was ever going to reliably pass emissions testing on my vehicle because it was such a low-quality part. Despite that, both specialists encouraged me to give Meineke the opportunity to make it right before having any additional work done elsewhere. I tried. Over the following months, I returned multiple times looking for a solution. Instead, I kept being presented with additional repairs. At one point I was told I needed brakes and an alternator. When I reminded them that Meineke had installed the brakes less than a year earlier, suddenly I didn't need brakes anymore. Later, I learned the alternator replacement was unnecessary as well. The final straw was Meineke's proposed solution. After all of this, their answer was to replace the failed converter with the same type of converter that had already failed. After being told by two Audi specialists that this was the wrong part for the vehicle, I had no confidence that putting the same part back in was going to solve anything. I was initially told that if there was a problem with the repair, I could take the vehicle to any Meineke location. When the repair failed, I learned that was not actually how the process worked. I ultimately dealt with multiple Meineke locations, their warranty process, and Meineke corporate over many months. After months of trying to resolve the issue through the shops and through Meineke corporate, I had to take the vehicle elsewhere in order to pass emissions and keep it on the road. During this process, management at the original location changed. My issue is not with the employees currently working there. My issue is with the way this repair was handled, the repeated attempts to sell me additional repairs while the original problem remained unresolved, and the complete lack of accountability from Meineke afterward. I also filed a Better Business Bureau complaint. The BBB ultimately closed the complaint after Meineke failed to respond. Based on my experience with multiple Meineke locations, their warranty process, and Meineke corporate customer service, I have lost confidence in the company as a whole. I would not trust Meineke with a major repair and will not use the company again.
