Not a great experience for us. My wife hasn't been feeling well and was craving some comfort food--Chicken Lo Mein, Egg Drop Soup, and Steamed Rice. Unfortunately, all three missed the mark. Even the red sauce was oddly gelatinous. I will say the egg rolls were pretty decent, so no complaints there. Our usual go‑to Chinese spot was closed, so we tried this place as a backup. I ended up doctoring the leftovers at home, but overall it was a real disappointment. If you're a regular and you enjoy this place, more power to you. It just wasn't for us. read more

I'm from Colorado.... every time I come to OKC, Speedy Wok is on my to do list. Their sweet and sour pork is amazing!! Perfectly battered and fried, with no extra "dough" like other places. The hot and sour soup is fantastic, but a warning.. it's pretty spicy. The first time I went to Speedy Wok, I tried the SS pork. Someday I'll try something else, but I will probably get two dishes that day because it's so good that I can't not get it. read more

Wow. This was horrible. Idk how you even mess up Chinese food this bad. I got vegetable chow mein with fried rice and it was SOUPY! WHAT?! And it smelled like dog pee. I'm not exaggerating. My chow mein kept wafting dog pee into my face and I couldn't take another bite. I sent the rice back for being so salty I needed an entire glass of water and they brought back "a fresh batch" of rice that looked literally exactly the same as the last. Burnt and brown and gross. I didn't even try it. My husband got chicken Kung pow and his was SOUPY too. I tasted it and it was just as nasty as mine was. So, I've eaten here several times and it has always been to go. Never had a complaint about it. A few nights ago, my family decided to dine in and we totally regret it. We ordered a few dishes, and all the food was super salty, service wasn't that great... and to top it off, I saw something floating in my water, so I looked inside an there was a huge dead roach in my cup. Ew. I literally lost my appetite. I told the server, and she was shocked and just gave me another one. Nothing else was said. While eating my soup, I had a huge long hair in it. My hubby ordered the Szechuan pork platter and I order the Szechuan beef platter. The platter; with your choice of steam rice, fried rice or brown rice, Hot & Sour soup or Egg Drop and an roll. I've been consistently impressed with Speedy Wok's food and service, especially when comparing it to other takeout Chinese places in the area. Compared to other Chinese takeouts, Speedy's - dining area is cleaner and furnished in a way that's much easier on the eyes. Most other takeout places, I'd avoid sitting anywhere because the whole place looked so dank and grimy. - portion sizes and meat-to-veggie ratios are way better. Speedy does a good job of not skimping on the meat when you order meat & veggie dishes. Their lunch menu options also give you a ton of food for the price. Bang-for-buck values are crazy high with Speedy Wok. - service is generally quicker and nicer. Nobody's out-of-their-way cheery, but they've always been pleasant and quick to check on us. - food just tastes better. I won't say their food is lightyears ahead of other fancier Chinese restaurants, because at the end of the day you're still eating Chinese takeout. Still, tasty for the price. I'd say Speedy Wok is the best fast food/takeout Chinese in town. My husband grew up and was a regular here that the owners all know him. He recommended the place for us to eat one day and I'm glad he did! I'd have to say their fried rice is the best fried rice for a takeout Chinese place. The sweet and sour soup is also my favorite. Now the best kept secret is the general tso chicken! I believe that's their BEST plate. It tastes better when you eat there because it's not as crispy when you take it home (unless you live down the street.) We had a terrible meal here, and when I both described and showed the problems to the manager, he did not care, didn't even bother looking at the food. He was rude, full of excuses, even blamed us. General Tso's Chicken were big hunks of over-fried flour with super dry chicken buried inside. It was so badly done I was afraid someone might choke on it, so I made especially sure our youngest chewed it extra well. And the sauce pooled around it was even worse. Much too salty and heea-vy on the soy sauce, and the added vinegar and chili just magnified the mess. That stuff tasted caustic. And then there was our Kung Pao Shrimp, which was by far the worst I've ever tasted. Vegetables were undercooked and each piece had a gummy paste that looked almost painted on it. The paste had no flavor, no heat whatsoever and the texture was of coagulated gravy skin. It was awful. First Kung Pao I've ever had with no spice, which makes no sense. The fella I assume was manager says among other things that they don't cook like other places, that they're more "authentic", and that it's not for everyone. Yeah right. I've had every type of authentic Chinese food, and not one dish resembled this, I'll say it, crap. Honestly really disappointed, reading the reviews I thought it was going to be delicious. The reason being I love Chinese fried chicken, but once I saw my chicken I knew it was off. The chicken was breaded oddly, that the you can't even make out the form of the chicken because it was surrounded by breading. And to top it off the chicken was really bland. The almond shrimp was not what I expected either. It was stir fried and I decided to try it and I usually like it breaded with sweet sauce on top. The shrimp was bland as well. Well here's another five star review for Speedy Wok! Yelp never steers me wrong! We got takeout from here on Saturday night. I'm always looking for something new I can get when I'm over at my parents and need to feed the kiddos. Pulled up Yelp and found this place! We had chicken lo mein, shrimp and veggies, beef and broccoli, general Tsos and egg rolls. We also had egg drop soup. All of it was wonderful: not greasy, fresh, piping hot, and delicious. We like the food but this place is very inconsistent with their hours of operations. They have a sign posted in their store that says they stop taking orders at 7:45 so they can finish up the last orders and be closed by 8:00pm. But then they turn their phones off at 7:00 so you can't put in a to go order. And if you show up at 7:30 to put in an order in person they turn you away even when the sign at that register clearly states they stop at 7:45. read more

I've heard good reviews about Speedy Wok, but never really gave it a try after living in the area for over 20 years! I was told they don't do lunch specials like most Chinese restaurants in the area. I ordered the broccoli beef (because you can't go wrong with that) with fried rice and egg drop soup. I was expecting it to be around $7, but the family member who picked it up said it was nearly $14! A bit steep for what it is worth in my opinion. Anywho, the taste was good. The rice wasn't dry in comparison to competitors and the broccoli beef was tender and tasty. I'm not a huge sauce fan, but for what it was, I'd say it was good despite of the price. I wish the egg roll was more authentic in taste. To me, it reminded me of the Americanized frozen kind. read more

AS FOR THE STARS: I am going to give it a 3 as in "meh." We have been good customers, usually every 4-6 weeks, for years but we prefer delivery for dinner. Without delivery this restaurant is now a personal 0 or 1 star but if you want to dine-in or pick up then the average moves up to a 4.5 star.
