Most likely the worst "dining" experience. I have been coming here for years (although only a few times each season) and typically this restaurant provides a solid Italian meal. Clearly, the times they are a changin'. Servers continually make excuses for poor quality service and low level attention, simple things like clearing tables (ours, or the recently departed guests), refilling water, timely delivery of dishes for all seated patrons (the list goes on...). Ultimately, I don't blame the servers, it's purely lack of training (ie poor management), and poor execution (management again), as well as a hugely delayed kitchen. This spot is not understaffed, they're undertrained. I'd never take this out on the server (as I used to be one), but it would take a concerted effort of change, and new management for me to ever come back. This cannot be a one off issue, the only evidence I have is that no member of the staff seemed to care to address any of these issues when we raised them (with management and with wait staff). Update: I just went to the men's room... there's no soap in the mounted soap dispenser, the softsoap(R) dispenser on the countertop was watered down (clearly they ran low and just added water to stretch it), and under the cabinets there's no refills. I notified management and the waitstaff, who said "ok, we'll take care of it." I truly do not believe them. Just was walking out and this exchange happened: Manager: "thank you for the constructive Yelp Review" Me: "thank you, have a good night, good luck" Manager: "Good luck to you, you're gonna need it, I do not." read more

My family and I have been dining here for 4 summers and always look forward to coming back. But times, they are a changin'! Unfortunately we had the displeasure of sitting next to some of the most obnoxious, whiny, rude people I've ever seen/heard. From their conversation to the way they spoke to the waitstaff was disgraceful! After reading this lowlifes review I find it funny that they claim to have been dining here for years and always have a great experience yet this one bad experience warrants such negativity toward the waitstaff and a bad review on yelp. We may have waited a little longer than usual for our food but our veal chop, homemade pasta etc. was worth the wait! We also understand that it is a Saturday night in August at the busy Jersey Shore. Our server informed us that a lot of their staff had already returned to college so they were a little short staffed. Kudos to the staff for working extra hard (as I can see by the way they were running around) and keeping us informed and happy. My suggestion to N.Z. would be to stick to his overly congested, filthy, foul smelling, rat infested island of Manhattan and leave the island of Stone Harbor to us little people who stretch our Softsoap by adding water to it. Update: I went to the bathroom and washed my hands with a freshly new opened Softsoap if you'd like to go back and get the hand wash you so desperately needed! P.S. Went here with a group of 10+ on a Friday night while on vacation and had a very disappointing experience. The portions are very small, the food very overpriced and the quality very sub par. The appetizers so small they were impossible to share even with an average price range of around $12. All pasta dishes were under-cooked and fish dishes under-seasoned. Last night we showed up 3 mins early for a 7pm reservation, waited for 30 mins to be seated while looking at 6 empty tables surrounded by 20 others waiting. When we finally ordered the waiter told us how he did not like the white sauce at the restaurant and how certain menu items "you can get anywhere." Salads and octopus appetizer came out relatively quickly and were both excellent. Then we waited, and waited, and ran out of wine (only 2 bottles..wasn't trying to get hammered) The waiter joked at 9pm that we probably have time to run to Fred's and back before our food came. At 9:15 (2.25 hrs after we showed up) we asked for the check for the appetizers since we were no longer hungry. Looking back the waiter may have been "steering" us to the food that they still had left or what came out the quickest Moral of the story, it was a disaster last night. I was with a party of 7 the other night. Our waiter, jeff, was excellent and tried to get our food to us quickly. It took a total of 90 minutes from the time we got our appetizer to the main course. The Food Was Good But Obviously Something Was Wrong In The Kitchen. Our waiter kept apologizing and kept on top of things, and then got yelled at by the owner for trying to get our food to us in a quick fashion. When we complained to the owner, he merely threw his hands up and said "well look around". I was appalled. Did he actually just say that? We just left this restaurant and I must say few things bother me more than when a bait and switch is pulled. Especially when it concerns my food. That's exactly what happened tonight. I ordered the fresh Pappardelle pasta dish which was supposed to have Rock Shrimp. It didn't. Instead baby frozen shrimp cut into small pieces, hiding what they actually were by sight but not by taste. I mentioned it to the server, who by the way was great who then said he would go over to MARCO and tell him. I went on and finished my meal and was never visited by this guy Marco. To pay $27 for a plate of pasta with frozen baby shrimp seems a bit excessive. No grudges here, my check was $202.00, I left $240 and can only hope this is read as a restaurant that looks to cut anywhere it can to make a buck. By the way, no salad came with the meal and the bread was inedible. Someone needs to teach this restaurant that a good Italian meal always needs to be accompanied by a good loaf of Italian bread. This is a fantastic Italian BYO with excellent choices for pasta lovers and non-pasta lovers alike. I came in a group of five for dinner while on vacation in Avalon. We were eating late (930pm) so we were able to walk in and were seated right away. The service was excellent. Four of us had pasta dishes and one had the branzino. All were excellent. Several of the pastas are homemade. We had two dishes with homemade fettuccine that were both amazing. The bread is also homemade and was delicious. We waited over an hour for our order to arrive. Looking around, we could see that no one else had been served either, and none looked very happy. No one came over to offer us anything for the long wait or to apologize...so we just sat. Dinner for two at 6:45 on Sunday July 6. With a reservation we were seated immediately. Waitress was professional. With a place that makes their pasta from scratch why wouldn't they have some real Italian bread trucked in daily? The bread they serve has us thinking it's frozen, but the point being that we were immediately skeptical of what was to follow. We had the rolled eggplant appetizer which was very good. We had one fettuccine which I thought was well made but my gf thought was bland. We had one gnocchi with their meat sauce which I thought was again well made but could have had another ladle of sauce - not a big deal. After most restaurants didn't have any availability or didn't take reservations on a late Saturday evening someone found this place on open table. We were able to make a reservation at the perfect time for us! All seven of us got there a little early and we were welcomed with open arms. That was the first thing I noticed about this place, a warm, local feeling. They knew everyone, or at least treated everyone like a friend. They took us very quickly and service was phenomenal. We ordered some starters and they were absolutely fantastic and arrived very quickly. The entrees were absolutely delicious. Went here with a party of 9 this past Wednesday and were promptly seated. When we got there, at about 6:45, the restaurant was far from full. Our server was young but said she had been working there since May and was very knowledgeable about the menu. Appetizers we chose included the excellent burrata and the frito misto and some perfectly acceptable salads. The beet salad would have been good except that the beets were inconsistently roasted so some were done and delicious and others were rock hard and yuck. The problem with the restaurant is that once it filled up, about 7:15, all service to our table seemed to stop. It was after 8 by the time we finally got our food. Lobster fra diablo was cold and, after being heated up was woefully overcooked. The handmade pasta is quite good, if rather heavy, but one of the dishes we got was undercooked and doughy. Of the dishes we got that were properly cooked, including papparedelle, ravioli, and gnocchi, everyone thought it was good, but not worth the prices, wait, and aggravation. The poor busboy had absolutely no idea what he was doing. What started out as a promising meal turned out really disappointingly bad. The nail on the coffin was that after all this waiting and sending back improperly cooked food, as we were leaving, a woman, who apparently was a manager but had not been seen in the nearly 2 hours that we were there, came by the table to ask if we needed anything. Visited the restaurant tonight with my grandparents to celebrate Father's Day. I had never been and my first impression was that it was beautiful inside. Our server Emanuela was one of the most attentive and thoughtful servers I've ever had. As a server myself this means a lot! We ordered the meatballs (which were fabulous), the special flatbread, and the Romana (Cesar) salad to start. All were great. For dinner I had the Rigatoni Norcina. It was DELICIOUS. So flavorful and well done. My sister had the gnocchi in marinara sauce -- Emanuela was able to get marinara instead of the meat sauce to cater to my sister being vegetarian. Very thoughtful. My wife and I were down in Stone Harbor to celebrate our wedding anniversary We have come down to Stone Harbor for many years. We had dinner tonight at Spiagetta both the food and service was excellent. My wife and I shared a delicious antipasto followed by homemade gnocchi's as our main entrees. The gnocchi's were as good as my wife's Nonna's gnocchi's light and delicious. We completed the meal with cannolis (they made their own homemade ricotta filling) and coffee. Decent staff, attentive waiters, absolutely mediocre food based on what we ordered: two tough veal marsalas and a highlighted by the waiter veal and seafood dish that was an over priced mediocre mess: tastless crab and lifeless shrimp surrounding breaded veal cutlets made soggy from an indifferent watery sauce. At $37 any entree in a good restaurant should knock your socks off, this was like smelly overpriced sodden socks with cheap seafood. Our take is that this is a restaurant in a highly popular tourist area where the really good restaurants get booked so Spiaggetta profits from the undiscerning overflow. In other words a tourist trap. Save your money. Get a good local pizza and burger and get a "res" at one of the many good local restaurants. Maybe if, down the road, Spiaggetta hires a real talented chef and changes its tune, it might be a place to consider. For our take for now, don't waste your hard earned money here. Stone Harbor has excellent restaurants.This is not one of them. read more

Tuesday night. End of August. 730pm arrival. Party of 3. Dining room was about 25% full. Initial waitstaff was attentive. Overly attentive perhaps with multiple waiters asking for our drink order. Once we ordered it took over 30 min to receive our entree after we received our appetizer. So from placing the order to getting the food it was nearly an hour. Based on the size of the place, and how full it was, the kitchen should have been able to deliver our food much more quickly. We should not have been waiting 30 min in-between courses. Dissapointing in every way. Our group of 7 was seated on time and ordered apps and entrees. 3 apps came out on time. Then we were served 3 entrees seconds later (they were for another table). Then the other entrees As for the food...meatballs and lobster tail were very good. All else was blah...the fettucine with eggplant tasted ok, but had just 5 razor thin pcs of breaded eggplant that seemed like an afterthought. The spiaghetta shrimp ($27) was cold and tasteless with 4 medium shrimp and just a handful of pasta. The owner deducted about $35 because of the service mixup but....why would we go back? read more
