I like that they serve a little bit of south Indian food. I wish they had a larger south Indian menu with additional dishes besides dosas and idli. The dosa here is big and the texture is great. My favorite here so far is the Mysore Masala Dosa: Dosa smeared with red chutney and stuffed with potato masala. They also have a Mysore dosa with just the red chutney without potato masalas. I always love the lightly fermented flavor (Thin crispy crepes made with a fermented batter of rice & lentil). I like the Sambar soup it comes with and the cilantro chutney. I also tried their channa masala. I have had lots of channa masala in many places and also make it at home and I am not sure this one was particularly memorable for me. it's been a while though since I had it here and it was good from what I remember. I want to try the Samosa Chaat here next time which can be ordered with or without the yogurt. I also want to try the chilli idli appetizer. I like that they have outdoor patio seating and the service was always good for me here. I like that they are responsive to questions and inquiries via email. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. As a chef, I'm pretty particular about food, and Spice Garden genuinely impressed me. The chicken tikka masala had a rich, well-balanced sauce with plenty of depth, the chicken was tender, and the basmati rice was light and properly cooked. I totally enjoy this local Indian restaurant that serves a variety of Indian cuisines! Wow. I had their takeout, but because of the nice sit down service, we normally dine in. The spice levels are customizable on most items & a 7 or 8 has got some zip to it, without being overwhelming. I had not been here in years and the food is just as good as before. This time we got chicken korma and lamb tikka masala and a mango lassi drink. Everything was so rich and flavorful and the meat is fall apart tender, no knives needed. The lunch menu is served daily, but it didn't have anything on it that we wanted. The portion sizes have gotten even smaller and the price has gone up. A person with a big appetite will need to add an appetizer or other sides besides rice. The restruant is in a large space but has limited table space. We were able to get a table. The sign said they were short staffed but we taken care of. Our water was kept full and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. We have the chef's special chicken and the eggplant. They came with rice and we shared a garlic naan. The flavors were nicely mixed. There was a lot of chicken. We ordered the spice level at a 3. We could have gone a little gotten with the eggplant but the chicken was perfect for my palate. The flavors were excellent and true to desi cuisine, and the pricing felt fair. We ordered everything at a 4 out of 10 spice level, which was just right for both my husband and me. It had a satisfying kick without making us sweat. The mango lassi was the highlight. Even though it was listed under desserts, we enjoyed sipping it alongside our meal. The lamb biryani was rich and aromatic. We almost did not go to this restaurant because they did not have a lunch buffet. But the reviews were so good and when I called, I was told that they had lunch specials. We had the most incredible naan bread I've ever experienced. Their bread was light, flavorful, crispy, and buttery. My husband and I ate the entire basket. The meal is served Thaali style (served on a platter with individual bowls) we were able to select two meets, two vegetables and the type of naan bread (we had garlic)and dessert. It was plenty of food and we ate everything. Our waitress was excellent and had the cutest little baby boy I've ever seen. She showed us a picture of him when we asked, She was thoughtful, conscientious, and well-versed about the food in the restaurant. We will definitely go back when we're in Tucson again. read more

My husband and I visited Spice Garden for lunch today, March 17, 2026. The food was fine, but smaller portions. The server was good. But, when we received the check to pay, my husband noticed there was an addtional fee for using a credit card. We decided to pay cash, so were refunded the credit card transaction and fee. Upon leaving, I looked around near the front cash register and on the front window and doors and nowhere did it say that there would be an additional fee for using a credit card. It's not posted on the menus. I read online later that day that in Arizona restaurants are supposed to either tell you when you order that there's a credit card fee or it needs to be posted in the restaurant or on the menu so customers are aware before they order. We don't live in Arizona and didn't know about this fee. We probably will not return to this restaurant. read more

My experience at Spring Spice Gardens, Tucson, AZ on March 11, 2025 On the evening of March 11, four friends of mine anticipated getting together for a delicious Indian meal. These four friends had previously eaten here, so I was looking forward to feasting there. I was visiting Tucson. And...they were right. For the most part, I was not disappointed in my entree (although the mango lassi dessert was overly spiced with cardamon instead of letting the mango sing out). When it came time to signing the bill, I got distracted, thus leaving my Amex card at the restaurant. Shortly after leaving, I started receiving alarming texts from Amex, asking me if I recognized a number of transactions. I did not. The transactions added up to several hundreds of dollars. After nearly two hrs. on the phone with Amex, I finally went to bed, anxious & angry. The timing was too close to having just dined at Spring spices to be a mere coincidence. I left a vm with the restaurant that night, urgently requesting a call back. The next morning, I again left two messages close to their opening time of 11:00 am. Still no response. My gracious friends drove me to the restaurant. No, they had not answered their phone & yes, they had my cc. I explained what had happened. Their expressions were just that of surprise. I asked to speak with their manager but that never happened. Their only response was a weak apology. I followed this up with a phone call to the restaurant. I finally got hold of the manager. He was less than accommodating. He did not apologize; in fact, he denied the remote possibility that an employee would ever do this. When I asked him what he could do to amend the situation, he was abrupt & said "nothing, that's your problem". It would have been a great moment to apologize for all the hassle I had to go through & to provide me with some sort of compensation. We had spent a lot of money at his restaurant only the night before. An offer would have gone a long way to rectify my now crumbling opinion of this establishment. As a result of this encounter, I needed to go on record to warn my friends & folks like you who are either Tucson residents or visitors. My 4 friends have decided not to ever eat there again. They charged us a credit card fee, but they did not have it posted that they were charging fees, nor did they tell us they were going to do so. In the past month we ate at 8 other restaurants and none of them charged a credit card fee, so if you wish to not be charged such fees there are lots and lots of restaurants who don't. I have a small business and I don't charge credit card fees; I assume it is part of the cost of doing business. Additionally, we were told that if we ordered a 3 in hotness we would not even notice it was hot. The food was so hot that neither my husband or I could eat it. read more

We have been regulars at this wonderful restaurant since they opened, and we have sent countless others there and always get great reviews from them. One of the main reasons we first tried Spice Garden is for their Dosas, which are thin, savory "crepes" from South India. They're served hot with chutneys and can be eaten plain or filled with various ingredients like spiced potatoes or other vegetables. This is the only place we know of in the Tucson area that serves them, and they alone are a reason enough to come here. As others have already said, the rest of the menu that we have tried is also 5 star! The service is always attentive, and by the way you can always order your dishes in varying degrees of spiciness, just tell the waitperson a "1 through 5". Lamb and Tikka Masala with two additional orders of Garlic Naan. One could not tell they were short staffed. All of our food came out quick and the time between appetizer and entree was perfect. Portions were generous. Spice level 6..they hit it on the head!! There were two waiters taking care of 7 tables. They didn't miss a beat. Both of them checked with us to see if we were going to order more food as the kitchen was closing. Superb!! The ambiance is nice. A clean look and feel. Absolutely love the serving dishes. Made it easy to share. Glad I've found another fantastic place up north. P.S. The spice level increased when I ate it the next day. What a gift this restaurant is to Marana! The staff is always helpful, the restaurant is always super clean and inviting, and most importantly, the food is always epic! We've only gone for lunch, and I always order the option that lets you have a sampling of several dishes, served on beautiful silvery platters and bowls! There are completely meatless option, meat-filled options, and everything in between. It's also a nice touch that ordering this way includes a small dessert. I ordered the lunch combo. There is many options and the flavors were so rich it hit all the spots on my taste buds. The rice was flavor full and very soft and not dry! I wasn't a fan of the ricing pudding the rice was really hard compared to most rice puddings I have had. The mango lassi also fell short it was warm and had pepper in it I believe which is something I never experienced in a lassi and wasn't a huge fan of. The Star of the show was garlic naan which was cooked to perfection and seasoned so well complemented the lunch combo so well! This was my first time at Spice Garden, and wow, the food is amazing. The Mango Lassi here is solid, not overly sweet and just the right flavor and creaminess as expected with a normal mango lassi. The Chicken 65 appetizer is described as marinated deep fried chicken, and, although this is a factually accurate description, it deserves even more: It's chicken breast pieces marinated with spices that give it the red color like tandoori chicken and topped with pickled bell pepper and onions. Eat a bite of each piece of juicy, deep fried chicken with a piece of pickled veggie to have that tasty balance of tangy with juicy, marinated chicken bites. read more
