We were excited for a girls dinner at Spice Finch but were left feeling very disappointed in the food and service. To start, we got the trio of spreads, olives, French fries and baked cheese. The spreads were ok but the portion size was tiny and none of them were particularly memorable. The flatbread they were served with was excessively oily. The French fries were good but once you finish the top layer they became soggy and unseasoned. The olives were warm which is a fun twist but the texture was mushy and unpleasant. The baked cheese was delicious, however, it was comically small compared to the dish it was served in. For my main, I ordered the king salmon. It was a great portion size. However, it was overcooked, dry, and overpowered by a very bitter garlic flavor. My friend's steak (which she asked for medium) was also overcooked and tough, without a steak knife she was really struggling to eat this. My other friends ordered the swordfish, cauliflower, and halloumi salad - all were ok. The desserts really saved the day. The tahini brownie was incredible! The lemon cardamom bun was also tasty but a little dry. The ambience here is very nice and the bar is beautiful but the bathrooms are filthy. The service was fast but unfriendly. The convening I attended reserved the restaurant for dinner for the entire group. There was a section set up for appetizers and then we got to pick where to sit. Then, there was a pre-set menu with various appetizers & main entrees. Each table got all of them. It was soooo much food!!! Most of the food was interesting in taste. I love Mediterranean food and the food here mostly tasted good but coming from Houston, TX, it was not the best I've ever tasted. However, the ambience and service were really great. Dessert was served at a separate section and it was pieces of brownie with what seemed to be marshmallows & what appeared to be strawberry shortcake pieces. Both were just okay. What a FANTASTIC MEAL. Came by with a group of ~8 with a Friday 7pm reservation. We were seated at the round chef's table right outside the kitchen. We were planning to go the tapas/family style route, but the waiter seemed a bit pressed to persuade us to choose the tasting (we were being a bit indecisive). It was initially off-putting, but decided to go in on the chef's tasting ($64), and wow were so glad we did. There was SO MUCH FOOD - it seriously kept coming. For our group size, we got 2-3 servings of "small plates", 1-2 servings of "medium plates", and options of 2 mains from steak, lamb, and eggplant (opted for the former two). Portion sizes may vary depending on the size of your party. Starters - hummus, crudités for dipping - baba gannoush - bita - crispy spiced pita - broccoli tabbouleh - chickpea fritters (delish) Seconds - grilled cheese w tomatoes - ground lamb (beef) kebabs - poeri peri shrimp - couscous - rice Mains - lamb - steak - whole fish Dessert - brownie w ice cream - orange honey cake - dates The steak was delicious, and the lamb was oh so tender. I was looking for a nearby restaurant and found out that Jennifer Carroll (top chef alumni) runs this restaurant so I had to check it out. Friendly service. It looks like it can be a spot for a cute date night or a small group of friends night out. The server was helpful with providing drink and food recommendations. It is tapas/family style. The food here was phenomenal. I really enjoyed the smoky baba ganoush from the trio spread. The Halloumi salad was good but got heavy after a bit. The steak kebab was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for great Mediterranean/middle eastern food. read more

We went to Spice Finch for dinner on a Saturday night and it was pretty full! We made a reservation about a week in advance. The interior and ambiance are nice. They have a decent wine and cocktail selection. Our waiter was great and offered great recommendations for food and drinks. The halibut was tender and slightly crispy on the outside though a bit bland overall. The halloumi gem salad and roasted cauliflower were delicious! It's funny that a prior review mentioned some of the staff trying to clear dishes from the table too early because this happened a few times during our dinner as well. So four years later I finally ate IN the restaurant maybe this is a more fair eval. The service was warm and attentive. There was no 'tude. Food was still good; maybe a little "clean" for Mediterranean? To me Mediterranean is a "dirty" street food and Spice Finch is more precious than this. But everything was tasty and portions weren't insultingly small (for example). This is a good mixed Mediterranean option with full bar. read more

My friend and I came to Spice Finch for an amazing dinner on a weekend. The ambiance is beautiful inside, everything on the menu sounded great, and service was good. We ended up ordering the Melitsanosalata, the Shabazi Fries, the Halloumi Gem Salad, and the Mushroom Nwassar Pasta. The Melitsanosalata was a delicious, refreshing eggplant and feta dip with walnuts and pomegranate on top. The Shabazi Fries were served with harrisa aioli but to be honest we didn't taste much harrisa in it, and the fries were just ordinary fries. We would probably not get this next time. The Halloumi Gem Salad was refreshing and came with many pieces of halloumi. The Mushroom Nwassar Pasta was so creamy, with these tasty crispy sunchokes on top. i really enjoyed spice find the first time i was here, but my recent visit for restaurant week fell a little short of expectations. overall, we still had a great dinner! my boyfriend and i came for the restaurant week dinner ($45 tasting menu) which was definitely worth the price tag in terms of quantity. however, the appetizers were truly subpar. the chickpea wedges were dry and bland, the fattoush was uninspiring. frankly, i would not get either of those appetizers again. my favorite item here of all time is the moroccan steak frites which are served with shabazi fries. the steak was tender and juicy, very flavorful, and the fries were perfectly crisp. unfortunately, the fries were cold when they came out. i don't know what was going on that day, but it took an hour and a half for our entrees to hit our table... and my boyfriend and i are extremely fast eaters. i got so bored of sitting there that i wanted to just get everything to-go and leave. our server was nice, but it was just so slow. the whole dinner took over 2 hours, and i was losing my mind by the end of it. patience isn't my strong suit. overall, i would come back but skip the mid appetizers. the steak is so good that i would come back just for that. i'm hoping the slow service was just bad luck, i don't think i had that issue the previous time i was here. it's a beautiful restaurant, great for a casual but classy date night. read more

A LOT of food! We really enjoyed a couple of the dishes, however some of the dishes needed some pizzazz (read seasoning/spice). Alas, Spice Finch's dishes weren't very spicy. Our waiter was good, took a while to come over and the check ins were essentially an "everything good?" as he was already moving away. We were sat next to the station where waitstaff plugged in orders, so were privy to some complaints-being assigned to too many tables, etc. Fave of the chef's tasting menu were the pita with dips-very tasty and flavorful and brownie dessert-who doesn't love warm brownie and cold ice cream? There is interior and exterior seating and lovely decor. It was okay and you get a lot of food for your $$ but due to a serious lack of flavor, we really won't be rushing back. read more

It's been a couple of years since I've been to Spice Finch so I definitely wanted to update my review. We were in town visiting with family members so made the reservation for the 6 of us. First I want to say that they were very accommodating with our vegan family members! We decided to do shared plates so everyone could try a wide variety of items. Warm olives , the trio of spreads (garlic yogurt, red pepper hummus, melitzanosalata with flatbread and crudités) , blistered peppers, fattoush, broccoli tabbouleh, roasted cauliflower, steak kabob, lamb merguez and grilled eggplant ( one with yogurt and one tahini). Dishes were brought out as they were prepared which was terrific timing and no one went home hungry. Our server was pleasant and efficient. I'd never been here before , only had take out; the atmosphere is warm and inviting. We are already looking forward to our next trip back to Philly to visit them again. Went to spice finch for a friend's birthday party. This place didn't have adequate seating for our party of 8 to be honest. The lady who served us was doing double duty with the bar so she was really peeved when we kept changing seats but her actions really did ruin the experience. She was mad because my friend changed seats even though she asked if she should give her name so it made getting the check easier. She was brash about not letting us have multiple checks after a certain point. She was hard to get ahold of at the end of the night for the bill or other food items. She also brought my friend the incorrect dish and then blamed her for ordering the wrong food when she did no such things. The food definitely redeemed the service. I really liked the N/Agroni. This drink was a non alcoholic nagroni. It is such a clever name for a drink and tasted just like an alcoholic nagroni. We also got the blistered peppers which were very delicious. The peppers were mixed with harissa and tahina. We also got the Lamb Merguez Kebab. This dish had perfectly cooked lamb that was spiced for perfection. Usually I hate lamb but this is definitely worth ordering. The dessert is not to be missed either. We got the warm tahini brownie. It was the best dessert ever. Very close to Rittenhouse Square, Spice Finch is a Mediterranean spot in Philadelphia that's perfect for a flavorful meal or even a productive work session if you're me. My friend and I went to Spice Finch for dinner and had a delicious meal with plenty of leftovers! The space is pretty big for Center City with a good amount of seating, but we had made a reservation just in case. To drink, I got the Hangman's Beautiful Daughter (bourbon, amaro, orange essence, and rosemary). It was so delicious and surprisingly refreshing for a heavier whiskey-based drink! To eat, we split 4 menu items: - Melitzanosalata (eggplant, feta, bell pepper, walnuts, pomegranate, mint) - Shabazi Fries (with harissa aioli) - Halloumi Gem Salad (with marcona almonds, and honey sumac vinaigrette) - Mushroom Nwassar Pasta (with sunchokes, brussels sprouts, and manchego) My favorite items were the halloumi gem salad and the melitzanosalata! The pasta was also delicious, especially the sunchokes. The fries were good but nothing out of the ordinary. I was very impressed with the portion sizes of the "small plates!" We had plans to get ice cream elsewhere that evening, but the dessert menu looked very tempting! Roasted cauliflower- 1/2 a head of cauliflower. This was super flavorful and I liked the herbiness of the dish. I think what u was tasting was dill combined with some nice acidity. Dry rubbed chicken- they were not lying when they said that this can feed 2 people. (I think maybe more). The meat was fall off the bone tender. Paired with the green herby sauce and nuttiness from the muhammara, it was perfect. The roasted veggies were roasted well and had a bit of tang to them for balance. My only complaint is I thought the chicken meat was salty. read more

This place was GOOD. We started with the "Trio of Spreads" appetizer which came with garlic yogurt, red pepper hummus, melitzanosalata and spreads. In addition to the crudités, we tried both the flatbread and berbere crisps. I'm not sure which I liked more as they offered such different textures and flavors. So I recommend getting both. We also tried the Spinach Kichi which was similar to a flaky croissant roll with a layer spinach wrapped up inside. The flavor profile was divine - the soft pastry paired wonderfully with the spinach. For my entree, I ordered the Grilled Eggplant, which was much larger than I anticipated but so delicious. The eggplant was swimming in the creamy tzatziki (I think?) sauce with chickpeas which made for a wonderful combination. Overall, I was so impressed. I really loved the upscale yet laid-back decore and ambiance inside, and our waiter was fantastic. I hope to return soon to explore more of the menu. read more

I've had a lot of great experiences with Middle Eastern food in Philadelphia. This was not one of them. We went with the tasting menu, which was reasonably priced. Another benefit was that I probably would have regretted the meal more if I had to pay individually for the majority of the dishes we received. One big gripe I had, though, is that there is no menu for the tasting menu and really at no point until the main dish did I know if more food was coming or what food was coming. First came the dips: garlic yogurt, red pepper hummus, and melitzanosalata. I wasn't familiar with the latter but it was the best of a fairly mediocre three. Came with one flatbread but wish there had been more instead of the strangely hard spiced chips they came with (which felt like/tasted like chicharrones). At this point, an absolute mound of tabbouleh joined the table. I continue to wonder why someone felt so much tabbouleh would ever be necessary. The twist of a broccoli tabbouleh I felt like didn't really work, as the broccoli just made the whole thing quite bitter. Blistered peppers was a nice dish. The sauce was a good mix of tahina and harissa. Chickpea wedges were fine. A bit overly mushy inside and crumbled easier than expected once dipped. The baked cheese really added nothing to the meal by the time it came out. Not sure that the combination of baked cheese and tomatoes was a smart choice. Also, serving this in the baking pan in which it was made felt a bit off when the remainder of the dishware had matched so well. Peri-peri shrimp: probably the best dish of the night. Plump shrimp, decent sauce. Lamb shank: We chose this over the bass option. We subbed the crispy rice for the couscous. The rice was fine but at least what I was expecting from it. The lamb was supremely without flavor, as were the vegetables with which it was served. The latter were also not as cooked/soft as I would have wanted or expected. Two desserts: the brownie with the ice cream and halva was good-nothing standout but at least done well. The date truffles bordered on inedibly sweet. The place itself was pretty empty for a Saturday night. Our waitress was super attentive. This was in contrast to the waitstaff that brought the dishes over and essentially whispered what each thing was with no explanation. read more

Service was good, but staff could use some training on cues when to clear out the plates. We got interrupted several times by a young man mid conversation. Maybe they had a plate shortage? Many open tables around 830pm so I don't think he was trying to hurry us out of there. Highly recommend & don't forget to make a reservation. I'd definitely come back to try more dishes. read more

I tried Spice Finch for the first time last week and I'll say the best part of my experience was the bartender and the fabulous cocktail (pictured) Aftercastle. I arrived for my reservation early and spent time with her before transitioning to a seat. The ambiance is "cute" due to its location within a hotel and a beautiful part of the Rittenhouse area. However, the spaces within are cramped, tight and from my personal experience, not enjoyable. I began my experience at the bar and every minute someone was brushing up against me due to the tight space and walking to the service area. When I moved to a table, the service was ultimately poor. The server was disengaged, rude and wasn't helpful when suggestions were needed. I also noticed the lack of check-ins with us compared to the surrounding tables, it was disheartening. I provided this feedback and all I received was "Sorry to hear that." It was restaurant week, so I gave grace on the long wait for the food. There were many great options to choose from. The Chickpea Wedges (pictured) were GREAT! I wasn't a big fan of my meal, the peri-peri shrimp, it was cold. However, my friend LOVED the Moroccan Steak Frites! Overall, this was a celebratory evening that I wish would've turned out better. read more

Spice finch is a nice dining experience in a pretty environment with good service. However, the food was really lacking a wow factor, especially for Mediterranean dishes. We ordered the 4-course tasting menu and I was pleasantly surprised that each course was actually several small dishes. I enjoyed the dips, but they could've used more flavor/seasoning. I liked the flatbread and veggies with the dips, but not the crunchy chips. The shrimp was tasty, but I didn't care for the blistered peppers. Our main entree, the whole fish was well prepared but just came with relatively plain rice. My favorite part of the meal was actually the warm tahini brownie and the cocktails (the after castle with gin and pistachio was unique and delicious). Baked Cheese and Roasted Cauliflower: Both were a bit too sweet for my taste but still good. Persian Rice Cake: Don't order this; it has no taste. Shabazi Fries: These fries are so good and addictive, seasoned with some type of salt. Chicken Kabab: The meat is tender and flavorful, paired with a delicious sauce. Watch out for the chili pepper--it's spicy! Skirt Steak: Cooked perfectly and tender, with a bonus of fresh cucumber and spiced cashews. Elegant place in the heart of the city so a safe spot off walnut. Service was great as nothing was rushed at all which I prefer in my service. The chickpea wedges were unique and I really enjoyed the dipping sauce they came with. The chicken kebab was juicy and tangy, and I liked the bit of spice from the chilis. Got the brownie for dessert which you can't go wrong with (although I wish they added more halva to mine!) I really enjoyed everything I ordered and the portion sizes were really great for the price! Where this place fell a little flat was the service. The employees were generally nice but the wait times between courses were way too long. My party and I all ordered everything at the beginning so I think the courses couldve been timed better. Then when we got our check at the end of the meal, there was an extra item on our check that nobody at my table ordered. When we told the waitress, she sort of questioned us a little bit and then after telling her again, she said she would go "investigate", which meant that we had to wait even longer to leave. Although she was still nice and I totally understand that mixups happen, my group and I just didn't love all the waiting around we had to do as we had another commitment after dinner to go to!
