Spice Grill is a store front Indian restaurant in Parsippany, NJ. Unassuming on the outside with tasteful and understated décor on the inside. The service is friendly and patient. The kitchen is slow but I will attribute this to the time taken to properly prepare a meal. My wife and I have now been here nine times, three times for their Sunday dinner buffet, the remainder during the week to order from the menu. As "almost" vegetarians, we really enjoy the large selection of vegetarian entrées common to Indian cuisine. The large number of vegetarian appetizers is also appreciated. Our favorite appetizer is the samosa. Wonderful fried pockets of potato and peas with delicious seasonings. Served with Cilantro and Tamarind Chutneys. Truly delicious. The Naan is freshly baked and exactly as it should be: warm and chewy with just a hint of seasonings. We have found the food to be delicious. A favorite dish for me is Kadir Paneer. Homemade cheese with a tomato, onion and green peppers in a tomato based sauce. When I ask for it "extremely spicy" they believe me and I get the heat level I desire! The owners, a husband and wife, are friendly and ready to answer any question. The wife spent several minutes with us explaining how they make their spice mixtures and maintain the full depth of flavor in the dishes even while making it hot enough to satisfy this chili head. Missus does not care for her food to be as hot as I like mine and she asks for it at a medium heat and tells me that it always hits just the right level for her. It is 18 miles each way for us to go to the Spice Grill and we make the trip about once every other week. Though we have tried several other Indian restaurants in the same area, this is the one that we keep coming back to. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. First let me preface by saying we used to frequent here weekly. Then after years of eating there, I came across raw chicken after part of it. I quietly went to one of the owners and whispered to him that there was raw chicken on the buffet and that I had eaten some. He never said sorry, or anything for that matter, just turned away and went to the kitchen. He never came to the table to clear the raw chicken either or check up on us. In fact, he avoided us for the rest of the meal. Odd because we have been long time loyal customers who were friendly with the staff. He then tossed us a full price bill and muttered under his breath "sorry about that." Uhhhh did you just charge me full price for raw chicken after years of coming to you? I said "well I just hope I don't get sick." Boy did I get sick. I lived in the bathroom for 8 days. Lost 5 pounds. And spice grill keeps trying to erase this review so nobody sees. Amazing. We will never ever ever be getting back together..(or going back lol ) It's not that you had a bad day and made a mistake (a BIG one) it's the way you handled it with a long term customer. Lucky for us though, this gave us the opportunity to try other Indian restaurants in the area that turns out to be WAY BETTER and cheaper. To name a few......... Chand Palace Cinnamon Go elsewhere if you want to eat safely and be assured if there's a problem that it will be handled correctly. I was so so sick. I prayed I wouldn't get sick, but I did. Below average food. Terrible Service. My wife and I went there on a Sat morning at 11.15 for the buffet. The website says the place opens at 11. So we knocked at the door since we weren't sure if they were opening later or just closed for the day for whatever reason. A guy (head waiter) came to the door, scowled at my wife that the restaurant opens at 11.30 and slammed the door in her face...all within 5 seconds. We still waited for the restaurant to open at 11.30 since we figured this may be a one-off thing. We were received with the same attitude after opening. We decided not to eat here after all this experience. On my way out, I called the owner (his bus card was at the front desk) leaving a very polite message about the bad service we received. Mind you, not one rude word in that message. Just saying we were disappointed. It's been a week and the owner never even called to speak with me. There's plenty of good Indian restaurants in the area. Try Cinnamon in Morris Plains. read more

Disappointing... I had been to this place years ago and happened to be in Parsippany and was really craving some indian food so I stopped in here and ordered some take out. I ordered the paneer makani, rice, naan, and some raita. When I got home I was soooo hungry that I probably would have ate anything but was highly disappointed by what I had in front of me. The rice was perfect and fluffy, the raita was spiced well and the naan was done well. However the centerpiece of my meal...the paneer....seemed to be in a tomato sauce that resembled tomato bisque. It just was not what I think of when I eat indian food. I would go back here again...everyone deserves a second chance but I def will order something different. read more

When I walked in there wasn't a lot of people seated inside, however I didn't expect there to be so many orders for take out. The service that I received was inconsistent - it was okay, there were moments that I felt ignored to moments where I received great service. The service wasn't so bad that I would never go back, perhaps I will try them again on a different night. The food was great. I tried the Chicken Tikka Masala. The chicken was cooked perfectly. When the food first came out I thought there wouldn't be enough, but it was portioned perfectly. Overall, I gave it 3 out of 5 stars because of the service. My family was craving Indian in the Pine Brook area, and Spice Grill had some very good reviews. It did not disappoint! The restaurant is clean and tastefully decorated (nothing particularly special or memorable, but nice). The service was fantastic. They were very attentive, brought us fresh Naan and cleared our used plates away quickly. Food-wise, we all went with the buffet, although it looked like lots of people in the restaurant were opting to order off of the menu. We enjoyed everything. It was your pretty standard fare, from the crisp and tasty Samosas, to the Chicken tikka masala, to the lamb palak. It was all very well seasoned. It had a bit of spice, so you know it is there, but not so much that you are sweating and can't taste the food. I will definitely be back when looking for Indian in Parsippany. read more

Dined here for dinners + lunch buffets. The lunch buffets are a great value and they even make each person a mini personal dosa! Great touch. The rest of the food is quite good. Even with so many Indian restaurants in the area, we keep going back to the Spice grill. On a spur of the moment hankering for Indian food, the fiancée and I stopped by Spice Grill Sunday night on a trip home from a weekend away. What we stumbled into was a Sunday night buffet for $14.95. After briefly considering ordering from the menu, we realized the foolishness of that and dined on what was out. The Chicken Tikki Masala was fantastic. The Daal was ok (not the best but very good). The Chilli Chicken from their "Indo Chinese" menu was spicy and great. I absolutely loved the Samosas. The crusty breading holding the potatoes and the potatoes themselves were awesome. The vegetarian dishes were decent but I didn't spend too much time with those. The white rice was white rice. Very good. The highlight for me was that I tried goat for the first time here. As I brought the forkful toward my mouth, I uttered, "Don't think of goat. Don't think of goat. Don't think of goat." That of course only made me think of goat. But still, I enjoyed the taste and it was not nearly as gamey as I expected. Will definitely eat goat again! Oh my god that sounds so wrong. If you're ever looking for a cheap Sunday night out, you cannot go wrong with Spice Grill's dinner buffet. I only had two full plates which means I did not gorge myself entirely for a change. And that was nice. Also, for a place calling itself "Spice Grill," I assumed the food would be much more hot and assaulting. Not the case. Place is clean, and the food is really good. Had some saag paneer, chana masala, and the achari (pickle spiced) mushrooms. All were really good, especially the mushrooms. The Tandoori Roti was good also. Good place for takeout, and the restaurant is clean also. read more

There were indo chinese options, but we didn't order any of those. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, samosas, a lamb dish, and an eggplant dish. All of the meat was cooked beautifully. I really enjoyed eating here more than I thought I would. I don't know what I was actually expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. We finished everything. EVERYTHING. We would have licked the plates if we weren't in the restaurant. Samosas were meh. The desserts weren't anything to write about. You could probably get the same thing during buffet time. Spice Grill is a godsend for us, being that I live in Caldwell and I don't have to shuttle down to Edison to grab Indian food. However, that doesn't mean at all that Spice Grill doesn't maintain authenticity. The food is excellent! I primarily visit the Parsippany location, which I can't say has much atmosphere/decor but makes up for it by providing by far the most superior fare in the area. I do enjoy the Indian tunes with the videos playing on the television though. I have tried several restaurants that did not come close and were way to expensive. Spice Grill is top of my list and the first place we call when I crave my tikka masala. I know, I know, but I am white and am still learning the complexities of Indian cuisine and will probably explore other options at some point ;) read more

Spice Grill is formerly Palki Fine Indian Cuisine. We were very pleasantly surprised with both the cuisine and the service. Before any course was served the waiters placed a crisp bread with caraway seeds with a choice of two delightful dipping sauces. I began my meal with a tomato soup that was excellent. Many restaurants try to pass off a marinara sauce style soup or cheat with campbell's in the can, but the soup was lightly spiced and the spicing was done so well that I could not decipher the ingredients. We shared an appetizer of vegetable pakora...a delicious assortment of vegetable fritters. The breading was light and crisp and complimented the tasty vegetables within. There were 3 of us dining and we each ordered something different so we could try different things and share. All 3 dishes were outstanding... Goat Palak for $12.95 )baby goat cooked with fresh garden spinach & flavored with fresh herbs & spices), Chicken Biryani (Basmati rice cooked in Indian herbs and spices), and Shrimp Tandoori. the waiters were sure to ask us how spicy we wanted our entrees...I prefered mild, while my other two dinner companions wanted more "regular" spicing. We all got our entrees delivered with the spicing we ordered. We finished our meal with a generous dish of mango ice cream. The wait staff came up to ask numerous times how everything was...I was also impressed that people of Indian origin were dining at Spice Grill as well...that is a testament that the food being served is authentic and true. Easy to get to off the highway and parking is plentiful. The service is pretty good, considering so many Indian restaurants have rather rude waiters. Food is of decent quality. I've had better, so it's not a place I'd come running to or consider it any Indian go-to spot. They have a buffet at dinner time, but the food didn't look too fresh so we just stuck with ordering directly off the menu. The buffet did have a decent selection of all the meats (lamb, chicken, goat) among other dishes. So if you want to try a lot, then just do the buffet. After years and years saying that I wanted to try out their buffet special on the weekends, we finally got there. Funnily enough, Spice Grill wasn't our first choice of restaurant since I had a Yelp deal at another location. The other location was closed for a private party but we were fiending for Indian food and I've always liked Spice Grill, just that I hadn't tried the buffet yet. So we came and loved it and now we go about once a month to eat their buffet. I find their dishes much more flavorful and sooo delicioussss! So we haul our young kids in just to get our Indian buffet mix. Love it! I could use some right now! read more

In a random NJ strip mall sits Spice Grill.This is our second visit there.The restaurant is set up as a nice sit down eatery but they seem to do more takeout than dine in business.It lends to a confused atmosphere,as patrons come to pick up their take out as you sit at a candle lit table while kids are screaming in the attached party room. It was disconcerting to say the least. Out waiter actually left our table mid order to answer the phone for a take out order!I was floored,as that has never happened to me before. The food is definitely the bright spot of this establishment. I would give the food a 4 and the service a 1.Our waiter never came back to check on us.The water guy was the only person on point as our water glasses were constantly refilled. I had the tandoori chicken which was great and my wife had the lamb.Like I stated before the food was authentic and tasty but the atmosphere and service were lacking. We were asked by our waiter if we wanted goat curry which was separately made and was included in the buffet price. Although the meat had a lot of fat, it was still a nice gesture. The manager also gave me a 20% discount automatically without telling him that I was a Novartis employee.* They have roti that is baked very thinly and not too burnt. They also change up their desserts. Out of the times I've been there, they have served the red sugary ball in sugar water and a white ball (cheese) in white creamy sauce. My apologies for not knowing the names. I'm not usually a huge Indian food fan (because I'm a wuss about spiciness) but decided to give Spice Grill a try with a restaurant.com coupon. The decorating in the place is very aesthetically pleasing and the people who work there are very friendly and answered all my questions. I went for dinner on a weekday and it was actually rather busy for a weeknight but [who I assume to be] the owner kept an eye on us. He was very accommodating. (Sorry I can't remember any of the dish names.) We ordered the shrimp appetizer. The sauce was a bit heavy. I ordered an almond based chicken curry dish which I was hoping would be milder and sweeter than it was but it did hit the spot for my curry craving. My boyfriend ordered another chicken curry dish that was a bit spicier. I wish the dishes included vegetables instead of just rice but overall, it was good. read more

FOOD: I just don't know why they have such a great review. Food was just average. Gobi manchurian was bad..they cooked tht with ketchup. Dahi baigan was also not propery prepared. Paneer makhani was okay. Bhel was dry. Not impressive at all. Service: service was also below average. Took lot of time to serve even when there was not many people there. Price: it was reasonable. I love this place. It's my go-to. It is so consistent, I'm always guaranteed a great tasting dish out of here. I have never once had a bad experience. Usually I have ordered take out, but I have eaten there a few times. They are so nice and willing to please. My only complaint is that, in the past, if I ordered 3 dinners for take out, I'd only get one container of rice. The rice comes with the meal. Now when I order I specify how many containers I want. I was taken here by an Indian coworker who recommended it for a work outing after myself and another co-worker begged her to take us to a good Indian place. Her family has been there quite a few times, and she has even run into other people from work here! I have to say I was very impressed. The service was good, and the food was incredible. We all ordered different dishes and shared most everything, so I had a taste of quite a few dishes, including chicken, lamb, vegetables, chickpeas and spinach. Everything was delicious, and the chicken basically melted in my mouth. The amount of spice is flexible. We requested mild and it was perfect. If considering Indian Food I think Spice Grill is a pretty good bet. The servers were really helpful in helping us select an appropriate meal. The Samosa appetizer wasn't what I was expecting, I thought samosa were fried stuffed pastry puffs but we got something a little different which is to be expected as I'm not familiar with the cuisine. And I didn't ask for a description of the item. We were seated at a two top next to an abandoned door which had a draft so that was disappointing. Went there for Friday dinner . The place was packed. Had to wait for 15 mins before getting a table. It is a huge place.As you enter the restaurant, there is a nice Indian food aroma which does increase your appetite :) The food is also good. We ordered Tandoori chicken, Lamb curry and Lamb Korma. The best was the lamb curry. It had the right spice level and was just awesome. Lamb korma was also good jut that it was bit on the salty side. But the lamb pieces and the portions were quite good.Tandoori chicken was also nice ! The service was OK, It took them a while to start but once started the food was on the table in time. Loved the staff here. Everyone was friendly and nice. I came to pick up my take out, and while I waited I was offered a drink by a waitor. They have a buffet in a small section of the restaurant, which you then eat in the front. It's clean and crisp looking, but you sit behind windows in view of anyone outside. We liked the sunday buffet here. We are not from NJ so not sure how this compares to other restaurants in the area, but the people that we went with said that it has one of the better buffets in the area. It was ofcourse all you can eat with fresh nan being served at the table. The aloo tikkis with chole was awesome. For curries, they had some paneer dish, mushroom mutter, navratan korma, some chicken thing and some dal thing. They also had dosas, veg manchurian and fried rice. For dessert they had kheer. The place was decently full when we got there. (It was kind of late in the day though). Won't mind trying it again at some point. read more

Love this place. They recently expanded and it looks great. Spice Grill is an extremely moderately priced, very casual, and yet delicious restaurant. We have been to this one and the east hanover location a few times and the food is always delicious. This past time we got extremely tender Tandoori chicken--it was perfect. Samosa chat, also flavorful and well balanced, and the Paneer Makhani with Prawns as well. The prawns were slightly overcooked, but the dish was terrific. Flavors that dance across all of the different tastebuds. Even the next day it was DELICIOUS!!! Hmm, and I Always forget the name of this dessert...but it was made with mango and cardamom and a custard/ice cream texture. I will be back again and again! read more

Spice grill is a good fast food kind of Indian restaurant. I would not say that the food is amazing, but I doubt anyone would truly say that McDonald is amazing either. The food is decent enough to enjoy casually and just tasty enough to spark a somewhat dull obligatory party in your mouth. Yeah... that's the best way to describe it. But by no means should you avoid it just because the party will be dull... just stop by for a an hour or so, like you would at a dull obligatory party, and grab a morsel. It's very...OK. read more

What can I say... I would love to give this place more stars and in all fairness, I probably would if I didn't go there with a group. When I strolled in with my entourage I felt a lot of cold eyes staring at my friends and I. I don't know why, and I cannot blame the establishment for this feeling but it was there none the less. Nothing special here, though certainly not terrible. I am a harsh critic of Indian food as I'm used to having it cooked at home daily, and this place wasn't that great. We tried the goat meat curry (not good), the garbanzo beans (better), and the eggplant curry (much more like it). In addition the tandoori dishes were quite dry and not very spicy. This place is a little better than other buffets. The buffet has a combination of mini-dosa, north indian fare and indian-chinese. The dosa's with the buffer are small. The first one we got was thin and crispy. The later one (different person cooked it) was tiny and thick. Surely the second person did not know to lay out a dosa. read more
