Best Indian food ive ever had in town! Ultimate hole in the wall spot! Decided to bring my boyfriend here who was unsure to try Indian for the first time, considering the smell of the spices never caught his craving attention. To say that "Yay! I'm a fan." would be totally spot on. First of all, it is inside of a slightly sketchy International Wholesale-esque Warehouse (DK Market), which is a good thing to know beforehand. The place is an adorable little restaurant - inside of the warehouse. It is set up like a Deli, where you can take your order to go, or you can grab one of the tables inside of the little shop and settle in for a bit. It is also dead-silent in there, so I was able to eavesdrop (accidentally) on the other patrons... who were about 6 tables over... The staff were all incredibly friendly and patient, albeit a bit overwhelmed/frazzled when we were there. We ordered a Veggie Pakora plate to go as well as two Galub-Jamun as a dessert. Alright. I'm trying to calm down - but I never knew that Broccoli could be THAT delicious. It was crispy, perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection. The two dipping sauces that we were given were the perfect compliment to enhance the savory spices of the dish. The only downside was that it took an awkward amount of time for the dish to arrive - which meant that it was made to order, which that, and the aroma that it had - more than made up for. The Galub-Jamun (a favorite of mine) was shockingly moist, and while it was almost drenched in the slightly sweet Rose Water syrup, it was not cloying in the slightest. It was light, a little sweet, and the ideal end to our mid-afternoon snack. While perusing their menu we noticed a note that said that if you don't see it on their menu, you should still ask for it - because they are willing to make it. How often do you see that?! The portions are deceptively large and are very reasonably priced. Another thing - when I came here, I noticed that at least 4 groups of Indians came into the restaurant. Now, as much as I don't like to generalize, there are 2 things that I've observed about Indians 1) They know their Indian food 2) They do not like being ripped off So seeing that this place was popular among Indians definitely assured me that this was authentic stuff. I'm not usually a fan of Indian food, mainly because my poor stomach can't handle the spices but my roommates came home with the Chicken Tikki Masala 1 day and after trying 1 bite, I've been hooked and going back since. It's such great comfort food on dreary study days. The spices are not overwhelming at all and I love the balance of flavors. It's a nice creamy texture too that serves as perfect dipping sauce for the Naan that's included (you can choose rice too). The portion is big enough for me to split into 2, there always seems to be an endless amount of chicken within that small container as well. I would recommend this for people who are not a big fan of Indian food, it's mild enough to be enjoyed by all! You can also order through the website which is great and pick it up w/in 15 minutes. The parking lot is a little chaotic due to its small size. It takes a lot of maneuvering around all the cars, and it is inside the market so don't pass it like I did. Holy mother of goodness! We are from San Diego and we went on a 9 day vacation exploring the countryside and National Parks in WA. We arrived at SEA airport on a Saturday and as soon as we rented our car we found the nearest place to eat lunch and found this. We were expecting a buffet as we had a long drive ahead. They didn't have a buffet but their menu is not at all disappointing. Their curries come with Rice or Roti(2 pcs). I ordered Paneer Tikka Masala with Rice and my wife ordered mix vegetable korma with Roti. The curry serving size was so big that I ordered an extra side of Rice just to finish mine. The taste was out of this world. Trust me. Read my other yelp reviews and you will that I am hard to please. This food blew my mind. I could literally feel the dopamine rush in my head. Fast forward 9 days, we visited the North Cascades National Park on the last day of our trip and we had to catch an early morning flight back to San Diego. We called the restaurant to check when they close and they said they close at 8PM. It was too early for a restaurant and it was a Saturday. Anyway, we were 200 miles away and it was almost 5:30 PM. I broke all the road rules and made sure I am at the restaurant by 7:59 PM. Yes, I checked the time. We walked in fearing they were closed. But they said they can accommodate us but only To-Go orders. I said I will take it. Can't afford to lose out on awesome food. We ordered the same dish as we did previously. Took it back to our hotel room and literally licked the to-go box clean. No kidding. We were glad we had it to-go because I will not be able to lick it clean if I were eating at a restaurant. Giving this place 4 stars and not 2 is a hard choice. We've ordered from them now 6 times, and each time the lamb dishes have been spectacular. They definitely are hit and miss with your spice preference. I always say make it as spicy as possible, sometimes it is, others it's zero spice. I'd say this happens approx 50% of the time. Their lamb is insanely tender, and the portions are more than appropriate for the price. But recently, we discovered a goat dish that we immediately were giddy ordering. It arrived, and there was 90% bones, and maybe (that's being generous) 5% edible meat. Most was chewy and impossible. Love this place. Love. Great flavor and was soo good with the naan. We also ordered the mango lassi. It looked neon yellow, but tasted pretty good. Not sure why the color was so bright. Before leaving the house for the airport, we decided we'd love to try something new. I've never been impressed by Indian food, and decided to give it one last try... At first I was a little skeptical, but as they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover". I'm glad we stayed, because the food was absolutely delicious. We loaded up on food. Seriously. Talk about Secret Gardens and Hidden Delights. Spice King is modestly situated at the entrance of DK Market like an undercover member of the royal guard. Like the clandestine royal guard, once you find them and see what they're all about you see that they don't fool around. These people serve seriously delicious Indian cuisine in a seriously kind manner for a seriously sane price. In my world, this is old school good. Kind and skilled cooks, well-mannered servers, honest food, clean and comfortable environment. The menu isn't enormous but it surpasses the basics and it's more than enough choice. The restaurant is small and most customers I've seen are East Indian. As you know (and don't pretend to be PC on me here) this is a very good sign. When I'm in the area I'll go here to eat even if I'm not shopping at DK Market. Indian is my favorite food and I like theirs. read more

First off, I would like to correct a misconception about the location of this restaurant. It's been said by some other Yelpers that it's in "kind of a bad neighborhood" or a "warehouse district." Well, in my opinion, both of those descriptions are a little exaggerated. When I read that, it conjured up visions of a desolate-looking, dirty district down by the docks or something. I didn't think it was a bad neighborhood at all, although I will concede that it's a rather unusual location for a restaurant. It's not in a typical retail zone; it's in a kind of a mixed zone... I'd call it light industrial/commercial. So, if anyone is thinking they shouldn't go here because it's unsafe, I wanted to give my two cents about it being perfectly fine. Now, about the food: It was good, and plentiful. It wasn't expensive, but it wasn't cheap (entrees are around $10-$13). Samosas were quite large, so one apiece was plenty as an appetizer. We ordered Butter Chicken and Lamb Coconut and Tandoori Prawns, as well as Basmati Rice and Plain Naan. It was all delicious. The rice and naan portions were huge. The chicken and lamb portions were more moderate. Also, we used a Restaurant.com discount, and they didn't balk about it at all, as can sometimes happen. The service was fine. The restaurant is located inside of a grocery store next to a hair/threading salon but don't let this deter you! I ordered the chicken tikka masala + lamb curry + garlic naan. So the only reason we went here was bc we had a Groupon. However, even after the Groupon punch card is gone, we will return if we are in the area. We had the paneer pakora, butter chicken w/rice, lamb curry w/plain naan , mango lassi and grabbed some Indian sweets to go. The paneer pakora was amazing! Definitely think we will order that one again. It seemed to be stuffed with a bit of the green chutney and it had a light batter on the outside so it wasn't greasy and heavy at all. Yummmmm! The butter chicken and lamb curries were ordered at a level 2 out of 5 but lamb was a bit spicier than I expected (hubby disagreed and felt it was spot on). The lamb was my favorite and we will definitely be getting that again. There were tons of lamb pieces which I wasn't expecting. The butter chicken was a bit tomatoey and sweet. It wasn't bad but it was just a bit different than I'm used to. The naan was a bit soft and wasn't crispy around the edges - think we will try the garlic naan everyone raves about the next time we are back. The mango lassi wasn't my favorite - don't think I'll get that again. (just asked the hubby and he thought it was fine and even the 19 month old drank some - maybe my tastebuds were a bit off today). Overall, the price, portion size and quality were great and they were very friendly. We will be back! Plus, with the Groupon card, they took the more expensive item off of our bill - that was a huge plus!!! It is in an odd location and at first glance may scare away the less adventuress but once inside you are treated to a clean, modern facility with a super friendly staff. The food is amazing and everything I order is a delight. My wife and I have been a hand full of times and make it a staple. The food comes in average proportions but is not expensive. I usually order three dishes for the two of us and we leave very full. Extras like naan and rice are very inexpensive and taste amazing. It is not extremely romantic inside and is geared towards the lunch crowd. The staff make us feel like family and are always very attentive. If it was in a nicer facility I would give it 5 stars but if you are just looking for good food this is the place. read more

Went there after seeing review on Yelp. We're fans of Indian food and didn't even know about this place! Great find! :) I believe we were helped by the owner. It's a cute little place, locally owned (gotta love that!). Let's see ... 2 dishes (Butter Chicken and Tikki Masala) and an order of naan bread (large enough for us to share) and a $30-ish check (with tip/tax/etc). The dishes came with rice and there was plenty of leftovers (Lunch tomorrow ... thank you!). I would say it is a hidden gem. Naan-n-Curry is slightly better in flavor. Indian Curry House has a weekend buffet, but this place is good, local, and the price is much more competitive. We'll be back! read more

This place is really delicious! I'm surprised! I came here meeting up with two other friends, and was confused on why they were both so excited about this place when the outside of the place wasn't that great. The food certainly proved me wrong! The staff was very friendly and patient, as my friend and I were waiting for the last one to arrive. Prices were reasonable for the portion size. I'm always at DK market and always walk past this little place so I finally made a note to stop in when I was there. I had already eaten lunch beforehand so I wasn't hungry but I knew I wanted to try something. I decided to order the meat samosa. It wasn't on any visible menu, but I asked if they had Rasmalai (a type of dessert) and they did! I added two orders of that to my to-go order as well. They came out quick and we were on our way. I tried both items when I got home and was really pleased with what I ordered. The meat samosa (one order came with 2 samosas) I had came with ground lamb and was nicely flavored and not overly salty. The mint and sweet (maybe tamarind?) condiments that came with it were really tasty as well. I could've used a little more spiciness to the samosa but overall I was really pleased. One order of Rasmalai had two pieces per order and I wish it was a little cheaper for the sizes you get, but I have to say, it was one of the better Rasmalai I have had so I can maybe look the other way. This place does seem shady as all get out, located in what appears to be an industrial block inside a warehouse.... seating area just about as small as could be and appears to be more targeted for 'to go'. But we ordered, and MOSTLY I was pleasantly surprised. Only really a few negatives that weren't enough to make me completely never want to come again. Samosas w/ channa, good (loved the channa) but sort of skimpy on the filling. Garlic naan, have had better elsewhere & was too crispy and too thin - not worth the extra cost. Bhartha, DELIIIIIIIIIIICIOUS - my most favorite thing we ordered. Chicken tikka masala, my husband got it 2 stars (not flavorful enough for me) but he liked it. Tandoori mixed grill, eh honestly it was a'ight - nothing to write home about. Wow. This place is great! I was a little hesitant to order, sight unseen, via Eat24 but Indian food just sounded so good. My husband and I only had one "issue" (which wasn't really an issue, because it was a preference thing), and that was that the butter chicken at spice level "hot" was REALLY hot. My husband, when given a choice, will always order the highest level of spice or close to it. With that said, he still loved the food; he will just order "medium" next time. Now for the rest of the pros! All of the food we ordered was delicious. We got the previously-mentioned butter chicken, vegetable samosas, meat samosas, garlic naan and paneer tikka masala. The chicken and paneer came with generous sides of rice. The helpings are extremely generous, and we will happily have leftovers for at least two days. Another pro is that it was affordable. We both had chicken curry dishes, mine was with hot peppers. They were both great selections. I had Nan with my dish and my son had rice. First off, this is the first place where they give you enough Nan to go with the entire meal. I didn't run out, and matter of fact had enough to give to my son. I'm giving it 4 stars on the food alone. If I was to rate the entire package it would be 3 just because the place is a couple of tables, what looks like an old deli counter and a television that is playing Ballywood soap operas. a few weeks ago, while out with friends, we ended up here right at closing time. The smells in the air impressed upon me immediately and they were kind enough to invite us to stay, but we felt guilty about keeping them late and went to Nann-and-Curry instead. That said, I returned last night to once again be greeted by those same intoxicating scents, and was greatly rewarded. I wish we had stayed that night a few weeks ago because this is, without question, the better of two Indian restaurants in Renton. Possibly even the area at large. Last night we had the lamb samosas, large and generous, which were delicious. The Daal soup, a huge bowl for a reasonable price, was also delicious. A HUGE piece of garlic naan that was freshly grilled and wonderfully garlicky. We also had the lamb curry and the chicken tikka. Both had thick, rich, sauces, were well spiced (we started at a baseline 3 stars so we could judge which direction to go for next time), and completely satiated the insane desire for Indian food I'd been nursing for weeks at that point. It's a 'strange' location, I guess, but a little bravery will end with you greatly rewarded. This place is a gem and I know I'll be back. read more

Even though I spend a lot of time further north, I'd still rather eat here, at this little hole in the wall, more than other Indian restaurants between Federal Way and Seattle. The Food: Great! Love it! Definitely one of the better Indian restaurants in the area. I've tried 6-7 of their dishes and have loved them all. I've taken friends and family there as well and likewise, they've been equally impressed. I love the Chicken Tikka Masala, veggie pakoras, and malai kafta, but I honestly cant say that any of the other dishes I tried there are anything other than delicious.
