This place was phenomenal in the beginning. I started to become a repeat customer since Indian food was OUT of this world. When I had dined in, I had tipped for their customer service. Afterwards I started to do take out due to my job requiring me to be on site. Since then, I haven't tipped due to it being to go orders and they aren't really doing a service then. The cashier both man and woman were energetic in the beginning but as soon as I did take out, they started to become mopey and moody. Just today 12/27/2023, mind you, I've been coming here for 2 months now. They gave me the smallest portion of rice I have ever seen. Usually it would be enough to make me full and in a food coma! Now it was enough for a child in the outskirts of Asia to be full. At first the environment was very warm and inviting. They give you $2 worth of chicken breasts with some curry and rice. They are definitely making more than enough to support their workers. Hungry for Indian food and with all the restaurants still closed for dine-in I turned to UberEats for some recommendations. Spice King came up highly recommended and nearby so I thought I'd give them a shot. I ordered butter chicken with roti, naan, and gulab juman. The order came quite quickly packaged in typical takeout containers. There was a little bit of leakage from the butter chicken's lid leaving a small puddle of bright orange gravy at the bottom of the bag. The food was still very warm when received and smelled so good! Having never tried roti or gulab juman I wanted to try something new. Comparing the naan with the roti seemed like an unfair fight as I have loved naan since the first time I ate it. Indeed it was an unfair comparison as the roti was good it couldn't hold up a candle to their delicious naan. I could see the appeal, though, if you just wanted to eat something less bready. The butter chicken was exquisite. It was tender and super flavorful. I ordered the two star spice level and had to giggle because while I enjoyed the heat it was a bit more potent then I was expecting. Big chunks of chicken swimming in oodles of gravy made for a very filling meal! Now the gulab juman was my toeing outside the line. First, I was surprised they were cold. I kept reading comparisons to doughnuts when I looked at the description on-line and these were more like doughnut's very distant, maybe related maybe not cousins. Heard about this place through Yelp. Decided to check it out because I was craving Indian food. This place is really good. Walking in you are enveloped with the rich amazing smells associated with Indian cuisine. The menu and the restaurant are simple, but sometimes simplicity yields great results. Keeping something simple, especially in restaurants, means you do a few things very well instead of many mediocre. I got the the veggie samosas, garlic naan and, saag paneer. The samosas were perfectly fried and crispy. The filling was aromatic and delicious. Simple but the flavors shined. The naan was garlicky, not greasy and didn't weight you down. The Saag Paneer was really good. Super spicy which is what I wanted but mellowed out by the cheese. However, not so spicy that you can't taste the flavors. Which is something hard to do. The rice that accompanied it was a perfect foil to it, when it got a bit too spicy. The service was fast, efficient and, friendly. I would have given five stars but since it was my first time there, I would like to go back a few more times and try more things to be able to give it a five. reasonably priced indian food in the renton area. this restaurant is located within the DK market. i ordered takeout from here on a monday night. the restaurant space inside is smaller but i did notice they have a private seating room with curtains which is pretty cool. i ordered the butter chicken with rice & naan. my total came to $14. was happy about the price because the butter chicken with rice or naan alone is $10.99 so it was nice to pay extra for naan & still have the price be below $20. woohoo! would say this butter chicken was a solid 5/5: had a nice kick to it, i got 3/5 stars. i was sweating a bit eating this but not uncomfortably. i'm a little congested so it opened my pores up a bit. rice 4/5: they give you huge portions which i appreciated because i love the long grain rice especially with the buttered chicken! naan 4/5: i got the garlic naan as an extra & so glad i did! it tasted so good dipped in the buttered chicken yum!! nice size portions as well overall would definitely recommend coming here for indian food! good prices & delicious hot food read more

This is a fabulous place, highly recommend it! Second time here- first time, I had truly the best chai of my life, and never forgot about it! Went back today, and it was lovely- very chill at 1pm on a Wednesday, food was great, mango lassi was delish. My favorite part was actually the staff- the hostess/cashier/waitress was so kind and helpful, and just made us feel so welcome. As did the other staff member who brought our drinks. This is a pretty small, hole in the wall, restaurant, located just inside D K Market, to the left of the main entrance. While the setting may not be super fancy, the place is simple and clean. The menu is large with lots of options for everyone. They also recently updated their menus, including a lot more photos too. They menus look really nice. I'm not too adventurous yet and usually stick to just Butter Chicken. But, honestly, the butter chicken here is so good! No frills. Just creamy, rich, smooth, extra flavorful sauce-y goodness. I really enjoyed the food at Spice King! The butter chicken was so creamy and flavorful, and the girl helping us was so sweet. It was my first time ordering here and I used the website recommended; however the hostess told me it takes a long time to process and get the order in. So I suggest calling in when ordering to go. We got 3 orders of butter chicken--3,4,5 spice level. The portions are so generous and I got to enjoy it for lunch and an evening snack! They don't skimp on chicken and it's plenty despite other reviewers. The garlic naan is an upgrade but I will continue to get it! It's so flavorful and really complements the butter chicken well! I highly recommend. Basmati rice was my sister's choice as she loves rice with her soups/curries and they're also very generous on the portion of rice too. Based on the high rating on Yelp, we ordered takeout from Spice King, and were quite disappointed with the quality of the food. Chicken tikka was in what tasted like a ketchup-bbq sauce - yikes! The butter chicken had dry chicken pieces. Malai kofta was average, as were the naan and chicken biryani. Maybe our selections were not their best dishes (they don't have a big menu), but we will not be repeat customers here. When I have a craving for Indian food, this is my go to place and I don't even live in Renton. All the food is so flavorful. I tend to get the Navrattan Korma and veggie samosas. The chutney makes it. Naan is solid and delicious with everything. My friends always get their sandwiches and love them. This last time I got the Chicken Biryani which comes with a sauce and it really hit the spot. You can't go wrong. Don't be thrown off by the fact it's hidden inside an International market you may not have frequented before. It was located in this grocery store which has good enough parking spots around the building. Restaurant itself was little small but everything was very clean. Reasonable price and good portion. I ordered Paneer Tikka Masala and Lamb Karahi both with rice and with spicy level of 4. Additionally I ordered garlic naan and mango lassi. Overall, all of them were good. We have dined here before. It's in a mini shopping center in the industrial part of Renton. It's hard to just run into. You would certainly need to be looking for it to know it's there. This time we ordered delivery through door dash since we are in the middle of the pandemic. We have several Indian restaurants to order from much closer to our home BUT this place is so amazing that we prefer to order here. The spices in their meals are just so developed it's hard to order anywhere else. Pricing is right and the value is there. If you like spicy then 4 is a good balance of flavor and spice. 5 can get more of that heat and over powers the spice. But if you like spice then 5 will not disappoint you. Each main choice comes with your choice of side to be included. We added rice to each one so we could extend this through the next couple of days. There is only two of us so we end up eating this over 3 days. My mom and I were trying to buy some samosas to take home yesterday after finishing our grocery shopping. We saw someone was waiting with their shopping cart so we came in with our paid groceries. Before we could even say anything we were told to leave because they don't allow carts in their establishment. Basically shooed out. Even the person who had their cart inside was confused because he had his cart in there while waiting. It left such a poor taste in our mouths so we left. It's hard to judge a place when COVID is happening. The food was good but I miss in house dining so I could not get the whole experience of this place. It sit inside of a international market which had me waiting to go do a little shopping. I got the butter chicken and it was good. Ordered 4 star but it was more of 2.5 to 3 at the most. Reviewing this place after my 4th or 5th order. For some reason I really wanted to hold back my comments and make sure I understand this place well before I wrote the reviews. Here's my understand and my review: I am fairly convinced that the chicken they use in the recipes come out frozen from their fridge. How can I say so ? Well, for one, all chicken are diced in perfect cubes, more or less uniformly sized, and the gravy and sauces are never well absorbed by the meat. I am not implying that frozen food is not good but if I am onto indian cuisine then it better not be frozen. The entire aspect of slow cooking and dwelling in spices is taken away if you cook with frozen meats and ingredients. I will pass this place if I want to eat quality. Having said that you get what you pay for. The food here is priced lower than what some other Indian/ Pakistani restaurants in Renton Charge for at par or even worse quality. read more
