Going to a food truck used to be a unique dining experience, but now, it's commonplace. Navat is a bright orange truck on a busy street corner. When you walk up and/or park in the giant supermarket lot they're next to, you will see things you'd expect from somewhere that serves halal meats, with a slightly different twist...none of this is commonplace. They focus on Central Asian (think of the countries that end with "stan") and Mediterranean food. The former is what makes them unique...I don't want to say it's fusion, because there is Central Asian cuisine, but the cross of Eastern Europe and Western Asia is obvious. There are differences like the pita bread looks more like a hamburger bun and there's some similarities too. They serve dumplings, but it also looks like pierogis. There's beef pilaf, instead of plain white rice or biryani. What drew me in to finally try their food was the wrap. The mixed wrap comes with chicken shawarma and beef/lamb gyro. It's everything you want in a wrap/pita...meats cooked on a spit, some veggies, and fries. The latter was the biggest selling point for me since it's usually extra, or not done at all, at other places. The wrap is huge...think giant burrito. It's also grilled on the outside which is always a nice, added touch. Unfortunately your first bite will most likely be the powerful tang of the orange house sauce they put in the wrap. It's not bad...it's zesty and tangy and sweet and I think ultimately it elevates the flavors of everything, but it also overshadows all of the other flavors. I asked for it with light sauce and even that was too much for my liking. However, I don't know if ordering it without would do you any good either cause it may be too dry without it. When you get past the sauce taste, you will find a depth of flavors underneath. It's familiar like any other gyro wrap you've had, but it's a little bit different. The shawarma is nice and tender...maybe too tender. The gyro isn't just shaved meatloaf...it's got a crispiness to it, almost like eating carne asada. The lettuce, tomato, and onion salad give you all the right textures in between. The fries were a bit soggy, but it really makes the wrap that much better. Overall, I liked it...but I'm not sure if I would get it again. Between the overpowering sauce and just the wrap costing 18 bucks...the meal was pretty easy to swallow, but the price isn't. However, they have many other things on the menu that'll get me back to try more. read more
