This place never fails! We have been fans of Spice Waala's Cap Hill location since they've opened and it's been so great to see the owner's dream blossom into a booming restaurant with two locations. BONUS, they now have soft serve! The flavor at our location was Fennel. This place is a great spot for a quick lunch or dinner that spices things up! We ordered 4 rolls and a snack, and it was ready in five minutes. They pack the rolls tightly in aluminum foil and pack ingredients of the chaat separately so nothing spills and everything is warm upon arrival home. I had a cold and the bursts of flavors opened my senses! It's definitely on the spicy side and not for the faint of heart!! Usually 2 rolls or 1 roll & chaat is very filling for one person for a great price. The best part of this restaurant is that not only are they making good food, they are serving the company. One of the co-founders is a social work prof @ UW. They donate hundreds of lbs of rice to Asian dominant food pantry's, healthy school lunches & summer meal packs to low income students, and snacks for hundreds of LGBTQ+ homeless youth. I recently ordered food delivery from this place today. I got an aloo roll and chicken roll. Although the filling had a decent taste, the paratha used for the roll wasn't good. It was sort of soggy and burnt. It tasted like soggy cardboard. The roll was lacking in sauce and veggie toppings inside. I wouldn't come back here again and wouldn't recommend this place. read more

The staff at the capitol hill location are always so kind. They were super busy tonight and accidentally forgot a part of my order. Chicken tikka roll was all right to me, and enjoyed by my companion who appreciated that it wasn't sweet or bright orange. Lamb kebab roll had the gamey-ness of the lamb to me, my companion liked the roti/wrap. The chickpea salad had spice too. Fresh. (Personal preference- wish there was a bit more green to their food). Great place to stop for a quick, affordable lunch! My friend and I both got the paneer kathi rolls which were delicious. The flavors were definitely on the milder side so I would love to try a spicier or bolder option next time. We split the tikki aloo chaat. It was my first time trying this dish and I loved it! It's a good balance of savory and sweet. Next time I'm going to try their mango lassi. Service was quick. It's counter service so you order me grab a table. We got there on a Friday around noon and it was still fairly empty. read more

I'm generally a big fan of street foods. With the high ratings of Spice Waala, I was very much looking forward to try it. Alas, I was underwhelmed. We bought two of the kathi rolls - a chicken tikka and a lamb kebab. They are like mini meat only burritos - no veggies, no other carbohydrates, just the meat and wrap. Their size is surprisingly small, about the length of a sharpie, and the girth of 4? sharpie's tied together. If I was hungry, I can eat one in 3 or 4 bites. It's better to think of their menu items as snack size; get two items if you want a meal size. Chicken tikka kathi roll - $7 - 3.5 Stars This eatery's tagline is that it's authentic Indian street food. It's meat in a wrap. The saving grace is the seasonings. The chicken tikka seasonings came across better and was more flavorful. The $7 price is "ok", not great, not a deal either. The meat seems good. Lamb kebab kathi roll - $8 - 2 Stars The meat in this roll was less flavorful than the chicken tikka. Sad. It's even more "hunk of meat in a wrap" than the chicken. There's a bit of green on the wrap though, maybe chutney? I can't tell. Anyway, the meat is a tad gamey. It's a dollar more too. I don't recommend this one. I ordered online while they were closed midday. They re-open at 5, and my food was ready at 5:11pm. Emails, texts, the process was easy. For pickup, just gave them my name, and I'm handed a bag. An awesome option for fast casual food in Cap Hill! Spice Waala is known for their delicious roti rolls of lots of varieties. The restaurant is an unassuming tiny door that you could easily miss from the street, but the indoor space is actually pretty big. Not a ton of indoor seating - maybe 3 tables and a counter. But it seems like they had tons of to-go orders coming through the whole time. I tried the lamb, chicken tikka, and paneer and all were delicious! The roti rolls are $7-8 each - I would probably need two to be full. The mango lassi was yummy but a little smaller than I was expecting. I'd definitely come back for the lamb and chicken rolls! read more

Spice waala is one of seattles hidden gems in my opinion. I needed that. The interior, meh, I had to walk up a partial flight of stairs. Gave me Vibes like I was I'm a cave or something. I couldn't imagine trying to eat inside for a fun date or anything, but it's clean and inviting. The workers are nice and described the food very well. The Food, OMG yes, I need more. This is one of those places that end up throwing in the rotation for a quick filling meal that won't hurt your pockets. I really felt like I got my monies worth. I ordered the chicken Tikka roll, aloo Tikki chaat, and a Mango lassi. The Lassi was more like a drinkable yogurt and I'm glad I also got a cup of water on the way out. The roll was very small looking but filled with well seasoned and cooked meat. It was so good, but I do think it would be slightly better if the chunks where cut into smaller bits and there was a bit more sauce. I'm a sauce guy so I say that about almost everything I order. The chaat was some sort of a yummy potatoe cake with some amazing side dressings. I used the extra dressings on my roll and it made my tongue sing. I'm currently craving another one I hope this place sticks around. Maybe they can add Indian tacos to the menu one day. A taco truck used to make India tacos in the chaz area back in the day. I was craving some good Indian food and found the Spice Walla location in Capitol Hill. They are mostly a to-go restaurant with a few tables. The menu is short, so it was easy to decide what we wanted. We got one chicken tikka kathi roll each and one aloo tikki chaat. We also opted to add an egg to the rolls. The food was super tasty. The chaat was probably the best I've had in US. Would definitely visit again! read more

FYI: The Yelp check in is NOT accepted anymore. I love authentic snack-y Indian food (oops sorry!! Not indian fusion apparently) and I was so excited to try this place (after trying Roll Pod in Bellevue which is INCREDIBLE). The rolls are SMALL ($7-8 each which is a tad pricey), 2 or 3 probably make a meal. The wrap is very thin. Ordered the Paneer and chicken tikka wrap. Paneer was crumbly and light (reminded me of tofu). Chicken tikka wrap - flavor was pretty good. Mango Lassi ($3) was thick and delicious and fresh, also small. The rolls don't come with sauce or chutney or anything, would have been great if they did. Ordered online and the food was prepared quickly! Service was very friendly. read more

Taste is there. People are friendly. But portions are small for the amount you pay for. I wonder if they thought of making it a little thicker like a burrito. The chicken had a kick. This place is awesome and everyone should try it. Loved the variety of items available. Individual portions are small but the price is right and actually it makes it more fun to try many things at once. Chicken Tikka Kathi Roll (5/5) - flavor bomb of juicy chicken in nice chewy flatbread Masala Aloo (4/5) - the fries themselves were good though not too out of the ordinary BUT the chutney is excellent Bhel Puri (4.5/5) - this was really great. I loved the texture of the rice puff and the tangy sauce was delightful Chana Chaat (4.5/5) - chickpea salad, really surprised how much I enjoyed this as well. Sweet, tangy, flavorful Mango Laasi (4/5) - also great. A little on the thick side so I still needed water on the side Overall a truly wonderful experience. I was pretty skeptical coming here because I was unsure if it was authentic. However from the moment you walk in to the restaurant, you get hit with a familiar nostalgic smell so you know it's going to be good. The rolls were STUFFED with meat and everything was super affordable. For the amount of meat they give you, I'm quite surprised it manages to stay at its price. Here's what we got: 1. Lamb Kabob roll 4/5 The entire roll was stuffed with meat. The lamb was very well seasoned but it is slightly gamey. 2. Paneer Burji Roll 5/5 This roll was super flavourful with a lot of green peppers. 3. Mango Lassi 5/5 Thick and delicious, I wouldn't recommend making this your primary beverage, you should definitely also bring water for the rest of the food. This is more like a desert beverage. 4. Chaat Papdi 5/5 Super cute little card that comes with it to explain how to prepare it! It comes disassembled which is great so it doesn't become soggy. The papdi itself was so fresh, it almost seems store made. 5. Masala Aloo 4/5 For $3.50 they give so many along with a great spicy chutney. There's a some seating inside, no outdoor seating. However nearby there's a couple of benches and volunteer park is also close by. Overall if you're looking for some comfortable Indian street food, this is a great option. Nothing was too greasy, nice flavours and really nostalgic. read more

Indian chaat place in Seattle!! How could we not try it? It is a relatively small joint with limited seating. We went on a weekday so were lucky to find a spot. It was very clean and the staff was wearing masks and they served in disposable containers probably due the Covid situation. We ordered almost everything vegetarian on the menu - fries, rolls, chaats and chai. We loved the masala aloo aka potato fries. They had been nicely tossed in masalas and along with hot chai it made a perfect combo in the rainy weather. The aloo roll and paneer rolls were average but filling. I preferred the aloo one. I was not a fan of the paneer texture in the paneer roll. Aloo tikki Chaat and papdi Chaat were amazing! Papdi Chaat being my favorite of the two. I wouldn't mind more of the sweet tangy tamarind chutney on my chaats. Next time, I'll definitely ask for some on the side. We were too full for bhel but will definitely try that on our next visit and update my review. Do give this place a try! read more

Really tasty and affordable Indian street food - if we had more time in Seattle, this place would've made it on my list of repeat places to visit. We tried a few things and they were all delicious - lamb kabab roll, chicken tikka roll, papdi chaat and the bhel puri. There's some indoor seating and a bathroom available if you need to use it. The rolls are a bit small so you may need to eat 2 or get a snack to accompany your roll to make it a meal. If it was just me - my picks would be the lamb kebab roll and the papdi chaat. read more

I remember when this shop opened years ago, and I was excited. This might sound excessive, but half a dozen times I have tried to get food here just to find I'm 30 minutes too early, 30 minutes too late, or one time, I showed up on the random day they just don't open at all. Well over a dozen times I have thought about going here, but gone somewhere else, because I don't remember their complicated schedule, and didn't want to risk walking to them just to find them closed again. Today I got there as they opened. at 5pm, I entered the store, they pointed at the clock and said they would open in 5-10 minutes. The other reviews make it sound like they have great food. I wouldn't know though. Anywhere else I go, they are just open. I buy food, I eat. There is no complicated matrix of time-based accessibility. Very good Kati rolls. We had the chicken tikka masala roll with egg, mango lassi, and the Chana chat. All very good! I'd highly recommend all the items I ate. We didn't have it but the seasonal rose cardamom ice cream also looked amazing. At the price point - Spice Waala's target market captures people in the local vicinity that are looking for a budget-friendly lunch/dinner option. At the price point, it is unfair to assume the same standards as a $20-30 meal. The lamb kebob roll was my favorite and while it was satisfying, it wasn't filling so I'd recommend getting 2 rolls. Fries are decent - everyone has their own preferences though. Service is fairly quick, staff are pleasant, and there are a few small tables/benches inside that you can sit at and eat. However, it's a small space so most people tend to just grab a to-go order. read more

Wow I was actually blown away by this place! We had heard great things, and had high expectations. When we first walked in and didn't see many South Asian staff or patrons, I was a bit apprehensive about how authentic it would taste or feel. I WAS WRONG! It's so rare to have this level of quality, taste, mix of spices, and diversity of South Asian snack items on a menu. This is easily the best chaat place around Seattle! I also absolutely love that it offers something beyond the regular North Indian menu of options. We ordered the Aloo Tikki Chaat, Paneer Bhurji Roll, Channa Chaat, Bhel Puri, and stood outside to eat it, just as you would at a roadside stall in India. Visited the place in person recently. The folks working at the restaurant are some of the best guys I've spoken to. They were extremely nice. The quantities were good for the price. The perfect lunch spot! We ordered the chicken tikka roll, extra yogurt and chutney plus the aloo tikki chaat. SO delicious. The chicken was well marinated and tender, very flavorful. I loved adding the extra yogurt and chutney to each bite. Don't be fooled by the size of the roll, it was the perfect amount for lunch with the chaat! I ventured to Spice Waala during an intense craving of chaat, and was only partly satiated. I ordered the aloo tiki chaat and paneer roll. The aloo tiki chaat was pretty good, but could've used more flavor and didn't taste too authentic. The paneer roll came out cold and didn't have too many distinguishing features. We got the chicken tikka & lamb kebab kathi rolls. Both were full of meat and the flavor profile will make you crave to come back for more! Both rolls had the perfect amount of spice, make sure to get the yogurt sauce to dip. It pairs very well with the roll. We also got the tikki chat, the potato patty was flavorful and went well as a side dish with the kathi rolls. Lastly, we got the mango soft serve for dessert. It was so refreshing and creamy. For our appetizer, we started with the Samosas (Two crispy pastries filled with your choice of freshly mixed vegetables or delicately spiced lean ground beef) which were excellent. Next we ordered the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and butter chicken. The naan and samosas showed up piping hot but the chicken tikka masala & butter chicken were cold. I probably should have said something as I was disappointed but was too hungry to care at that moment. If I'm in the Seattle area I may stop by Taste of India again.

But Indian-Nepali Kitchen is one of Seattle's most sought-after spots for affordable eats. But don't sleep on the rest of INK's broad menu of South Asian fare -- The Infatuation magazine even considers it to be one of the best restaurants in the city, full stop. INK shares a strip mall with a bodega and nail salon. Black cushioned chairs are pressed up to lacquered wood tables, and the tan walls are decorated with an assortment of cultural tchotchkes. Bollywood music videos play on the main dining room's single flatscreen, while images of Nepali mountain ranges flash on the screen in the accessory dining room. My partner and I dined at INK for weekday dinner on our drive up to the North Cascades, and we had the dining room to ourselves. Only a handful of takeout patrons rolled through during our visit. We kicked off our meal with the Mixed Appetizer. The Vegetable Pakora component was a consensus hit. The rich, crispy bites functioned well on their own and were fun conduits for the fragrant mint sauce and the tart tamarind sauce. In comparison, the samosas were forgettable, sporting overwhelmingly thick shells and hit-or-miss fillings. Of the three varieties, only the earthy ground lamb was worth finishing. Next, we tried the Combo Momo platter. Admittedly, the signature momos were surprisingly mediocre. Across the varieties, the wonton-like Fried Momo was the clear winner with its exciting texture without overpowering the delicate filling flavor. Meanwhile, the standard steamed momos tasted like something out of the frozen section, the Chili Momos were dominated by fast-food-quality sweet-and-sour sauce, and the Sandheko Momos had an unassuming, generally savory curry flavor (which was far outdone by the tangy side of house chutney). For our entree, we were very impressed by the Butter Curry Lamb. The thick curry broth was vibrant and dynamic; we sipped it by the spoonful. The tough lamb felt like an afterthought. The Garlic Basil Bread wasn't particularly basil-y, but the naan slices were pillowy, flaky, and addictively buttery. To drink, we shared an Iced Chai. The tea was more spiced than sweet; the average Starbucks patron might turn their nose up to it, but the light drink was a welcome contrast to the dense entrees. For dessert, we opted for the Gulab Jamun: the ping pong-sized cheese balls were deceptively dense, each packing a rich, syrupy punch. The service was quick and efficient, and our bill worked out to about $75 (after tax and tip). The flavors topped out at very good, but never quite achieved greatness. The portions were generous -- we probably could have done without the momos and still had a satisfyingly hearty meal. For a no-frills meal that will, at a minimum, be tasty, INK is a safe bet.

The oysters were the main draw for me, and they were totally worth the visit. Old Stove serves them with a savory watermelon sauce in addition to a traditional cocktail sauce--eaten together, it's a flavor explosion that I can't quite describe. We also enjoyed the garlic everything fries, which were delicious! We just had to try a flight to sample the brews. There are some really good beers available here, especially the Belgian blonde, citra pale ale, and the stout. I did not really care for the seasonal sour (grapefruit, I think)--to me, it just tasted like a sour and nothing more, but someone with more interest in sour beers would probably enjoy it just fine. Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. If you can snag a seat outside, you'll get to enjoy the waterfront. Inside, the decor is industrial but fun. Not sure if this runs all the time, but when we were there, the tvs were playing vintage beer ads, which was quite fun. They also sell some pretty good t-shirt designs. Overall, Old Stove Brewing is the perfect combo of good location, good food, and good beer. Definitely recommend a visit when in the Pike Place area!

We were very excited to try this new spot! We are big fans of kathi rolls after having tried Kathi Roll and Thele Wala in NYC. As Seattleites, we think this restaraunt addresses an important gap in Indian food currently in the area. However when it came to the food, we were supremely disappointed. The paneer roll was a flavourless blend of uncooked spices and masala. When the spices are well cooked.. this is what brings flavour. Otherwise you feel like you're just taking a bit of raw spices. The chicken kathi roll had a similar issue. The menu is a bit misleading as the roll was not actually traditional chicken tikka - it was rather, chicken masala. While the chicken itself was quite well made, the flavour was lacking. Perhaps the onion to spice ratio was off, and there was a similar issue of the spices not being cooked well enough. The roti wrapped around the roll did not taste as fresh as places like kathi roll. The menu did not indicate that the roti was freshly made and we didn't ask, but I was left wondering why it didn't have the taste of fresh rotis right off the tava. One of the things that leads people to a place like mamnoon street is because of the delicious, fresh bread they make for their shawarmas. We also ordered the aloo tikki chaat. Again, this is something we were very happy to see on the menu but when the dish came we were left slightly disappointed. The yogurt was not well chilled and the chaat was topped with what appeared to be pieces of canned beet were also not a highlight. The aloo tasted like a microwaved piece of tikki. The staff was extremely friendly and seem to genuinely care about their customers. The restaraunt is well designed, and played lively Bollywood music. We also commend this restaraunt for serving halal meat which we know will appeal to our many Muslim friends. We feel this restaurant has INCREDIBLE potential and as fellow South Asians here in Seattle we really want to see Spice Wala succeed. I had the pleasure of dining at Spice Waala over the weekend and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The food was absolutely delicious, boasting a melody of flavors that danced gracefully on the palate. Each dish was prepared to perfection, making it evident that the chef is indeed skilled at his craft. The service was another highlight of our visit. The staff were courteous and attentive, ensuring our needs were met promptly and timely. Our orders were taken without any delay and the food arrived at our table hot and fresh. The servers were friendly and made sure to check on us every now and then, which added a nice touch to the overall dining experience. The ambiance of Spice Waala was nice and contributed to the pleasant atmosphere. The tasteful decor and soft lighting created a cozy and comfortable environment that was perfect for our evening out. However, there were a couple of aspects that could be improved. Firstly, the pricing seemed a bit on the higher side considering the portion sizes. While the food was delectable, the amount served didn't quite justify the price tag, leaving us with a desire for a little more on our plates. Secondly, the water area was a bit of a letdown. They had a little Brita for self-service water, which didn't seem to be cleaned anytime recently. This was a minor turn off as cleanliness is something I value, especially in a dining setting. Despite these minor hiccups, our experience at Spice Waala was largely positive and enjoyable. Therefore, I am happy to rate it 4-stars out of 5-stars. I would certainly recommend Spice Waala for anyone looking to enjoy a tasty meal in a lovely setting, and I'm looking forward to revisiting in the near future to explore more of their enticing menu. read more

Spice Waala is a delightful Indian street food gem nestled in the heart of Seattle. I recently indulged in their Chicken Tikka Kathi Roll and Aloo Tikki Chaat, and they transported me back to the bustling streets of India with their explosive flavors. Each mouthful of Aloo Tikki Chaat offers a symphony of textures and flavors, ranging from the crispy tikki to the creamy yogurt and the vibrant tang of the chutneys. As for the Chicken Tikka Kathi Roll, the real star of the show were the tender, marinated chicken tikka pieces, which brought an extraordinary burst of flavor to every bite. Service was top-notch as well, with quick turnaround times and attentive staff. My only wish? More seating to savor the experience fully. Nevertheless, the portion sizes are generous, perfect for a snack, although for a full meal, you might want to consider ordering two items (just my opinion).
