I just stumbled upon this place. Had no idea what I was getting into. I had 90 minutes to find lunch in Arcadia, which is a good place to choose among restaurant, but just so much for me. I was having Mexican too much and being gluten free and mostly vegetarian really cuts into my options. I drove around until I spotted this little hole in the wall. Running out of time I just threw caution to the wind and went in. I didn't really notice how small the place was until I was already inside. There is a full length mirror on the back wall and at first I didn't realize it was a mirror. There is a desk right there and it looks like a small office. At first I didn't see the cash register so it was the menus poking out of the bin around the corner of the desk that tipped me off that I was in a restaurant. Ah ha, take out only. I must have been too hungry and a little slow on the uptake. I got Pad See Ew with tofu instead of meat. No place to eat there so I ate in the car. It seemed like a huge amount of food. It completely filled the take out container. I knew I would have some for dinner later. Turns out I was wrong. It was so delicious that I kept eating until it was gone. My girlfriend and I have gotten food here twice now and both times they have put meat on one of our dishes even though we ask for no meat. The food is decent and the portions are great but we can't eat any of it when they put meat since we are vegetarian. The first time I didn't mind as much because mistakes happen, but twice in a row? My family and I always order here if we're in a bind or have no idea where to eat. We live down the street so it's really convenient. The dishes are all pretty decent. My favorites are the pad thai (shrimp) and the thai beef salad. They're heavy handed with the chili, so beware of the spice. They also have smoothies with boba. I'd recommend the green tea one. Great restaurant. My wife and I eat there regularly on Tuesday and Thursday nights. I'll call and place the order - usually they tell me it's ready in 15 minutes. Then I'll start driving. I usually arrive 5 minutes later, and my food is ready to go! Very fast service. Very friendly folks. I wish they had a dine-in option, but I guess the small size of their building allows them to offer great food at such ridiculously low prices. I mean, you can't get a subway sandwich for what they sell some of their best specials for. My favorite dish is the spicy mint leaf ground chicken $5 special. I always order it with "no spicy." I usually get that every time, and I mix things up with my second dish. We like the tofu eggplant, the pad thai, the bean sprouts with tofu, and the garlic chicken. My wife and I will rotate through those options and share each others' dishes. They have a 20-min parking green-zone in front the restaurant that is usually open. I've never had trouble parking in front of their establishment. Surprising, given the volume of people they service and the absence of a parking lot (at least one that I'm aware of). I saw another review that says Spices Thai doesn't take credit cards. I use my credit card all the time! Perhaps there's a minimum purchase of $10 that I'm not aware of because I always buy two dishes. But they DO accept credit cards. Bottom line: food is great. Prices are amazing. My husband, my sister and I dropped by this place on a Saturday night. The place is just for takeout only. Inside the place, there are a cashier desk and a couple chairs. It is very cute. We placed our orders and waited for less than 10 minutes. We got three boba drinks. They were all pretty good. My husband loves the THAI ICE TEA WITH BOBA, and I like the TARO DRINK WITH BOBA. The melon drink was ok. The YELLOW CURRY WITH CHICKEN was unbelievable. It was so creamy and flavorful. That is one of the best Thai curry I have eaten so far. I can really eat that all day long. Just give me a big bowl of rice. The duck curry was good too. Since it is a red curry, it is a bit spicy to my taste. (I don't eat spicy at all.) But, it is still very tasty. Compare with the yellow curry, I would pick the yellow curry for sure. The THAI FRIED RICE WITH PORK was surprisingly good. It was light, and delicious. My sister likes this dish the most. I live 2 blocks away. Phone in, pick it up in 15 minutes. The food isn't all that pricey, it averages around the 7s for a meal. Of course, their dumplings (or the tofu) are worth the extra price for an appetizer. They also have All Day Lunch Specials for 6 which comes with one dumpling, though the dumplings, oddly, doesn't come with dumpling sauce (they only give you one though). A great place for take out Thai. Whenever I feel like a good meal to last me the whole day at work, I end up calling for take out here. Their staff is very friendly staff and have amazingly good prices. Their Everyday Special $5 meal are great deals. The portions are very generous. Pad See Ew is pretty good. This Thai take out restaurant is fantastic. I've only been there once, but I'm hooked. I usually pick up take out from Original Thai BBQ in Glendale. But when their gas was out and the restaurant was closed the other night, many wife let the fingers do the walking. She came up with Spices Thai. She ordered five dishes and they were all fantastic. Very flavorful. Beautiful colors. I ate that meal with my eyes, nose and mouth. Deeeeeelicious. Fried rice, chicken curry, catfish, it was all so tasty. read more

This is one of my favorite places for take out. Service is great and the food is bomb. One of these days I'll figure out which sauce goes with what dish. But like I said, all of their dishes here are amazing. They have pork fried rice for $5.00. Don't be fooled by the quality of the dish by the price. It is great. I highly suggest you guys try the Larb. They will ask "how spicy?" Don't be a hero and get it spicy. Mild is ok and you can always alter the heat. Bbq pork is another favorite of my wife and I. I can appreciate a small family run restaurant, and this place definitely fits that description. It is take-out only...no dine-in. But that's ok. My wife and I were lured here by the high Yelp scores and we really wanted to like this place. We were greeted by a friendly employee and a wonderful smell of Thai food. Even the menu prices were really reasonable. We ordered chicken pad thai, basil beef, basil chicken, and thai iced tea. The pad thai was for my 5 yr old and she complained of it tasting "different". I took a bite and noticed that the noodles were overcooked and had very little flavor. In fact, the only flavor that I tasted was something that resembled tap water. How and why does this pad thai taste like tap water?!?! It was inedible and we ended up throwing it away. When we ordered the basil beef and basil chicken, we were asked how spicy...we said "medium". Holy crap it was SUPER HOT!!! We're Korean so we can hang with the pretty spicy stuff, but this was ridiculous. My wife only ate about 1/4 of the food before she stopped and dumped it in the trash. I am a cheap-ass so I finished my food so as not to waste it. I was dying though. The Thai iced tea was okay. Nothing special. As much as I wanted to really like this place, the food was barely edible. I'm not sure how it got such good Yelp scores when our experience was the opposite. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because they had good service and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they have other dishes that are excellent. I'm not a big Thai food fan. I don't eat the usual common stuff AT ALL. I super picky. they only thai dish i've ever had and liked is "spicy mint over rice" and it's funny cuz it's not mint, it's basil. So when i try it somewhere, I describe the dish and cross my fingers and hope it's what I like, or at lease close... It was perfect. Just the way i like it. This place is no longer a great value and just another restaurant. I had the pad thai and it was average. YES! It's a hole in the wall. YES! There are no tables, only take out. YES! It's cash only. But I pay cash all the time anyway and I eat at home so it doesn't bother me. It is a Mom and Pop shop that serves good food at a cheap price. It's cheaper than other restaurants... I guess because there's no dishes to wash. I think the dishes around $3 less than other places. It's good guys. There's a nice selection on the menu and the family is always nice and serves you right away. Then there's the portions, it's pretty big compared to other Thai spots in my opinion. This place is good if you are in a pinch and need a quick lunch to-go - but don't expect much from food quality. I was in the mood for yellow chicken curry and I called in and asked if they had any curry on special. A friendly lady said they did and told me they had either yellow or red curry was $6.99 - $7.60 with tax. She asked if I wanted mild, medium, or hot - I picked mild and she said it would be ready in 10 minutes (yay!) As I travelled down 1st Street (south of Huntington) - and found it difficult to make my way down the street. Every block has a stop sign and the middle school in the neighborhood had just let out and the streets were crawling with kids. There's free parking out front on the street (and plenty of it) and my order was ready and waiting. I didn't know it when I ordered - but the daily special comes with soup, a fried dumping, and the entree. I was excited to see the soup, but it was inedible. It was extremely salty. It had a lot of cabbage(??), a couple pieces of white chicken, and some sliced carrots. I really liked the veggies, but the broth was too salty and I could only eat a couple bites. That's ok, though - it's the yellow curry I want! Side note to mention - everything was very well packaged. The soup was in a separate container and a separate plastic bag. My entree was in it's own container and in it's own plastic bag. The curry was in yet another container inside the entree container. No spillage or leakage, that's for sure! And my main bag had a spoon, fork, and packet of soy sauce. When I opened the entree there was a nice sized container of curry, a fried dumpling, and two scoops of steamed, white rice. The fried dumpling was on the cold side, but was very tasty! I was only going to have a bite, but ended up eating the whole thing! The curry was nice and hot and I was excited to dig in. It was filled with the same white chicken pieces the soup had - lots of carrots, onions, and red peppers. The chicken didn't seem like it sat in the curry very long at all. So much so, my guess is they have the curry ready, then add the chicken just before putting it together. Because of that, the chicken didn't have much flavor. And, because it was small white meat pieces, it was pretty tough/dry. The curry itself had a nice flavor - was very mild - not much heat at all. I wasn't planning to eat all the rice - but there was barely any chicken in the curry and while usually one scoop is more than enough - I ended up eating both scoops! Overall, it was a disappointing lunch. Had there been some tasty chicken in my curry (and enough of it) it would have salvaged everything. The rice was nicely cooked and the meal (except for the dumpling) was a good temperature... yet it was lacking overall. The curry had a nice flavors to it but was much runnier than I'm used to. I ended up soaking the rice in it and enjoying it that way. I was baffled because even though there was a lot of containers and seemingly a lot of food - I was not satiated in the least (unless you call curry soaked rice a meal). We've been getting spices for the past year and this place is probably the best Thai food around. The portions are very large and the prices are very reasonable. We always get the Pad Thai, the noodles are just so chewy and flavorful. The only thing to be aware is that the curries don't come with rice so you'll have to order it separately, which would be welcomed. We have been back here a couple more times since the first review. The ingredients are always fresh, portions very generous, and services excellent. However, four out of the six times we have been here the proteins were overcooked - beef and chicken. Pretty good spot! I usually order the Pad See Ew, and they definitely make a good one. The only negative I can think of right now is that I was about to order the Panang Curry also, but they don't give you rice with that (which most places do), so I just went with the Pad See Ew. For being a takeout only place, it's pretty good though; although their prices are virtually the same as restaurant prices.
