Lunch special, pad Thai
Ashley H.

I've eaten here for years and years.. back to when they were a 4 table small little restaurant. Their food brings me such great comfort and a great price! Been loving the lunch specials lately which comes with an entree, soup, salad, rice and wonton strips. I recommend their: pad Thai, drunken noodles, rah nah, pad see ew, tom kha soup, tom yum soup, fried tofu. Also the people who work here are so nice and hardworking.

I loved coming to this place as a high schooler! They had cheap BOGO boba drinks. Food: 4/5 Came here for their lunch special. It did not disappoint. Their lunch special items came with salad, soup, wonton crisp, rice, and the entree. The green curry was spicy and flavorful. I love the fried eggplant they put in it. The Pad Thai was really good. I also liked their the salad dressing that came with their salad. Their combination fried rice was nothing special. I would recommend sticking to their lunch specials. I really like their drinks, the Thai iced coffee was strong and sweet. Price: 5/5 Their lunch special is only $10.99 for beef, chicken, or pork and like a dollar more for shrimp and seafood. Their drinks are probably the cheapest boba drinks you can find anywhere: 2 for $3.00. Service: 5/5 Great service, no wait, and food came out quick. Ambiance: 5/5 [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am biased because I loved coming here as a teen. The nostalgia comes rushing back. But overall it's a quant little restaurant with plenty of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

At the current 3.5 average rating, I'd say it's pretty accurate, but it's easy to round up to a 4. Tucked away in the corner of a small plaza, behind BMC and Yoshinora is Chillin' Thai. They have been here for many years, and at first glance, it shows. The decor is pretty dated and the seats, tables legs show it's age. Menus have a sturdy cover, but the paper inside are ripped. If you can overlook all that, then you'll enjoy the food a bit more. They offer lunch specials with a decent portion at a good price. We tried their red curry and ground chicken with mint leaves specials, both typical dishes you'll find In any Thai restaurant. Each order comes with soup and a side salad. The salad was very refreshing, chilled to a nice temperature and served with a sweet dressing. The hot soup was also good, providing a contrast to the chilled salad. Our entrees were both good. I'm not saying they were excellent or authentic, but tasty enough for us to enjoy. We chose medium spice level for both, and they both came with a nice bit of heat. They also offer a BOGO seal for certain drinks, so we both got a Thai tea. During the weekday lunch hours, we were the first ones in, but a steady flow of customers rolled in shortly after. The friendliness of the servers made this a pleasant dining experience. For me, Chillin' Thai is a good place to grab a quick lunch at a great price. It does give off a small business, family owned vibe, and I love supporting businesses like this.

My amiga highly recommend this Thai restaurant so we tried it out and it was yummy. Customer service was on point and the dishes we tried together was delicious we had chicken curry, papaya salad, and eggplant with chicken. I got the mango slush too! Great place to catch up with childhood friend.

Tantawan is my favorite spot for affordable and consistently delicious Thai food in the SGV!…read more My favorite dish is the pad kee mao with chicken. The dish is consistently packed with lots of protein, spice, and savory goodness! The noodles are always perfectly well-coated and cooked in the delicious umami sauce. I also like getting their pad see ew, as it has a nice balance of sweet and savory flavors and lots of vegetables. The BBQ ribs, Chicken satay, and steak salad plates with fried rice are also wonderful dishes.

I moved to the SGV a little over a year ago and I have been sorely disappointed by offerings this nook of LA county has to offer *ahem banana bay*. I found myself driving to the SFV or Thai Town whenever I was too lazy to cook Thai food on my own. I decided to take a gamble with this restaurant and I am so very glad that I did. It's so good and authentic that I have come out of yelp retirement (Yelp Elite 2016-2020) to leave this review. I ordered four things as take out: Issan Sausage, Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken, Spicy Fried Crispy Cat Fish, and Drunken Noodles. I was told that they were out of the Kra Pow Century Egg and stewed pork leg over rice. Hopefully, I'll get to try it next time! Issan Sausage: Good portions. Flavor is very good, a little sour, a little salty, and a hint of sweetness. I think the flavors could be a bit more bold with the sour but overall the flavors profile is as it should be. Frying it also added a nice crispiness to it. Spicy Fried crispy Catfish: Flavors were really good. Sweet foods is typically not usually in my flavor profile, but this is one of the few sweet entrees I actually like. Catfish can be a bit more fried but that is moreso a preference on my part. Drunken Noodle Beef: Good char on the noodles. Flavor was really good as well. Not that much beef but the star of the show are the noodles. I was a tad confused on the egg in my drunken noodle but to each their own. I would probably order it without the egg next time because it does change the texture a bit. Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken: Now here's where it gets interesting! Tantawan actually uses holy basil (Kra Pow). It's harder to find but it has a very distinct flavor that Thai-American cuisine has for the most part substituted due to scarcity with Thai Basil (Horapha). I don't think you can get more authentic than actually using the right herb. Funnily enough, I think it can throw off people that have never had authentic Kra Pow as my partner said it tasted herbally. Thai food can be very hit and miss even among the Thai community as we all have different preferences when it comes to the holy trinity of sweet, salty, and sour. I am personally on the spectrum of sweet should be hinted at and never the forward flavor. Tantawan with the dishes I ordered definitely held to my flavor profile. Very well cooked and good flavor profile. I didn't have to add any seasoning as everything was cooked just right. I called my take out in and they said it would be ready in 20 and it was when I arrived. Even as the food sat in my passenger seat as I drove home I could tell from the smell emanating from the take-out bag that the food was going to be good. Quick and courteous service!

This small restaurant serves comforting and incredibly delicious Thai food that deserves much more attention. Generous portions at very reasonable prices. Every dish is packed with bold, rich flavors that feel homemade and full of love. I was blown away by how flavorful and well-executed each one was. The Khao Soi was rich and comforting, the Beef Massaman Curry was deep and aromatic, and the House Fried Chicken, which is marinated overnight, was incredibly flavorful and crispy. We also tried the Prik King, Poh Tak Seafood Pot, and many other dishes that were just as impressive. Every plate showed the care and authenticity behind the food. I ordered the Pad Thai and Yellow Curry, and both completely hit the mark…read more The Pad Thai is high-quality and very traditional--the noodles have that perfect chewy texture and a great sweet-and-tangy tamarind flavor without being overly sweet. The Yellow Curry is pure comfort food; the broth is incredibly rich, smooth, and aromatic, with perfectly cooked potatoes and veggies. On top of the great taste, the portion sizes are very generous. You definitely get your money's worth here, with plenty of food to leave you full (and probably take some home). Will definitely be ordering from here again! Highly recommend.

This place has been around for years, but it's my first time trying it…read more Ong Choy: really love the way the Ong Choy is made, it's not too salty and oily. It's flavorful and Ong Choy is nice and crunchy. Definitely a great vegetable selection. Pad Thai: the sauce is way too heavy and sweet. We didn't enjoy this as much as we thought we would. The first taste was good, but the more you have the saltier/sweeter it gets. The lime juice didn't lighten things up either. Don't really recommend it. Crab fried rice: there's a good amount of crab and egg in this dish. The rice is on the softer side, it's not dry and hard like most fried rice. We still enjoy it, the texture of the rice didn't kill the flavor of it. The flavor is very balanced, but quite oily. Tom yum seafood soup: There's a good amount of seafood in this soup. The flavor (sweet and sour) is well balanced. Sweet rice with mango: A great dessert option to finish the meal. It is not overly sweet. I'm not a fan of coconut, but the coconut is not distinctly sweet and overwhelming (so I was able to have some). The sweet rice is chewy and warm when served. And the mango is perfectly ripe and sweet. Definitely recommend it. The service was outstanding! The restaurant decoration is very traditional and unique. They are quite busy when we arrived on a Sunday night. I would give this place an overall 3.5/5 because they can definitely work on some of the dishes.
