Came here with a group of about 35 people for a Saturday dinner. For large parties, the latest reservation time available was 5:00 PM, although we had initially hoped for 6:00 PM. We were also asked to submit our food order in advance so the kitchen could prepare accordingly, which was understandable given the size of our group. However, some dishes arrived only lukewarm rather than hot. For example, the tom yum soup wasn't as hot as expected and the burner appeared to have been sitting for a while since the flame went out fairly quickly after it reached our table. The food was generally good and comparable in quality to the Rowland Heights location. One interesting difference is that menu prices at this location seem to be slightly lower. We ordered a variety of dishes family-style among several smaller tables, and overall the food quality was solid. The biggest area for improvement would be service. Food was delivered very quickly, but interactions felt rushed and impersonal. Dishes were often dropped off without much communication and staff immediately moved on. Throughout the meal, our tables were not checked on and water refills were largely overlooked. The restaurant is conveniently located in the same shopping center as TJ Maxx, Daiso, and other businesses. Parking can be challenging during peak hours. Overall, the food was good, but warmer dishes and more attentive service would have made for a much better dining experience.
My favorite Thai restaurant was Sanamluang, until last December I bought Hainan Chicken from them for $24. I recognize that inflation is a thing which makes this experience even more special. Today I bought Hainan chicken from Banana Bay and it was half the price of Sanamluang with a bigger portion of food. This is now my favorite Thai restaurant.
First time ever dining at this location of Banana Bay. My wife and I have been to the Rowland Heights location many times over the years. We enjoyed our dinner here on a Friday night. The location much different from the other one. This location uses the Yelp waitlist system. There's no bar or live music like the other one. However, the location is very vibrant and clean. The restaurant is brightly lit and decorated nicely. My main takeaway from the Temple City is most definitely their pricing! The menu prices are much more affordable and a few dollars cheaper compared to Rowland Heights. We certainty LOVED that! The staff here were attentive for the most part the food takes some time and wasn't delivered all at the same time. However, the portions and quality of the food are up to par. My wife ordered the BBQ Chicken and I ordered my favorite Continental Fried Rice. The flavors were comparable and delicious. This location was certainly packed for good reason. Banana Bay has always been a family favorite spot for us and this particular location is great! We'd come back again soon! ( ^_^)b
My husband and I dined here on a Friday night around 8:30pm. As we were walking towards the restaurant, I noticed their big glass windows, warm lights, and occupied tables with happy faces making it inviting. We joined their waitlist on their tablet near their counter and we were seated within 5 minutes. Just like the other location in Rowland Heights, it's very busy on a Friday night! The restaurant overall is very clean except near the entrance due to high foot traffic. It's decorated with Chinese lanterns, cherry blossom, and bamboo trees placed in the middle of the restaurant. It almost felt like I was dining at a high end restaurant. It's significantly smaller than the other location, but the high ceilings give it a spacious atmosphere. There are plenty tables and booths. Be aware the booths do move easily when you get out of your seat. We were sat in the booth closest to their entrance which I didn't mind at first, but after a while the high foot traffic was distracting (maybe they could place a divider between the waiting area and the booth). Onto the food, pricing, and service: portion is generous and they are more affordable than the Rowland Height's location. I ordered the Bbq Chicken Fried Rice. Chicken was juicy and flavorful. It was easy to take off the bone. The fried rice was light, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I couldn't finish my plate (even though I wanted to) so I boxed the rest to take home. My husband got the Continental Fried Rice. A dish Banana Bay is well-known for. The chicken skin was crispy, the fried egg was yolky in the center, the sausages were soft, and the fried rice was consistent with my plate's. Service was great and the staff was attentive even during their peak hours. I gained a sense of relief when more than one waitress checked in on us periodically. Overall, my husband and I had a great first impression. We're already talking about coming back in the near future. If you're looking for a Thai spot where you can order a plateful of food at an affordable price, this one is it!
I'd head a lot about this place from the Facebook group SGV Eats. I can see why people rave about it, and they always have lines on weekends. Very nice interior decorating first off. Seems fancy, but the prices are fair. Excellent service and friendly staff. The food was great! Really enjoyed it and the fried banana spring roll sundae dessert!
We came to Banana Bay in Temple City for lunch and ordered the chicken with mint leaves, crispy salmon choo chee, and Tom Yum shrimp soup. Everything was packed with flavor. The chicken was super fragrant and savory, the salmon had that perfect crispy texture with rich tasty sauce, and the Tom Yum soup hit all the right notes. Not that super spicy, sour, and with plenty of big shrimps. Portions were generous for a lunch special and the prices are good deal. Service was quick and friendly. Highly recommended.
Background On Visit: Decided to patronize this shop to redeem my not to great experience at Thai Time in Monrovia. Visitation Rights: Been to this location probably 2 or 3 times. I have gone to the Rowland Heights location many times. Price Point: Like the affordability of this shop. Credit Cards: They're being accepted. Restroom: They're available to use. Location/Parking: Believe it or not, this use to be a Guppy House.Located in a decent size plaza on the NW corner of Las Tunas Dr. and Rosemead Blvd. Parking can be found in the shared parking lot. Please note that parking is a bit hard during peak times. Ambiance/Decor: Neat ambiance with modern furnishings. I like their fish tank that they have up front near the host/register area. Service: Service has been good for me. The staffers checked up on me. Food came out at a decent time. Food Of Choice: 1) Chicken Tom Kah: I liked this soup. Love the sweet coconut taste, but I do realize after awhile I do feel tired of it. Still good though. Perhaps I can ask for less coconut. It has a sweet, sour, and savory taste profile 2) Chicken Laksa Curry: Curry is quite delicious and addicting. I do like the curry more at Borneo Eatery. Banana Leaf For Thought: Wouldn't mind coming back. :)
I got the wrong order, this is my 2nd time my order was wrong ,last time my husband order pork fried rice and the give it to us Crab fried rice and right now my order is spicy sliced beef fried rice they're give it to me Crab fried rice but the order was right but after my husband opened the order was wrong, I don't know who's packing my order but in the receipt paper the name was Molly
Went to Banana Bay for a quick lunch. We went in the late afternoon on a weekday so we got seated quickly and they took our order in a timely manner. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered off the Lunch Special menu which offer great prices and a good amount of food. I ordered a pad see ew with beef and it was tasty. Would definitely come back especially during their lunch special hours.
Banana Bay improved so much. I came back recently and the service was a lot better. Foods tasted better. The only problem was their mild wasn't really mild (if you accidentally bite into the chili). They chopped bits of chilies into the Tom Yum soup. I didn't notice it and ate one. It was so spicy that it ruined the whole meal. I was constantly drinking my Thai tea (no milk). Yet, my mouth still felt spicy. Everything else I ate didn't taste right lol Luckily, I was able to try some of the other dishes before eating the chili. The pad kee mao was yummy. They do need to improve on the presentation. The way it was served looked like half a portion...maybe serve it in a smaller plate? The papaya salad was good very flavorful and sour. Just how I like it =] The vegan tom yum soup was good until I ate the chili. It really hit the spot before the chili lol The Thai tea with no milk was good. Tea flavor needed to be a bit stronger, but overall it was good. First time trying it without lime. Service was good this time around. We were seated promptly.
Still one of the best...... Enjoy the lunch menu before 3 PM, you get your salad, soup, and an entrée. You get fairly decent service. sometimes the servers don't smile much but I don't take it personal. It's still one of the better Thai places in San, Gabriel Valley, the discounted Thai tea a bit "watered down" but okay.

Came here on a Tuesday for lunch and it was pretty packed, but fortunately we didn't have to wait long to be seated. I heard about this place because of their affordable and large menu of lunch specials and wasn't disappointed. We ordered the tom yum noodle soup and the garlic pork with rice, both of which were priced very reasonably at $10.49 each. The tom yum soup was sour with a slight kick of spice and had a decent amount of toppings. The garlic pork was very flavorful, although there was a lot of fat mixed into the pork pieces. Overall, for the price and selection, the lunch specials at Banana Bay definitely get a thumbs up from me. read more

Came on a weekday. Parking was difficult in the plaza. Was seated quickly. We sat right across the kitchen corner and got served right away. Decor was really nice. We ordered the Rad Na with beef for $13.99, Crying Tiger for $14.49, Banana Bay Special Pad Thai for $13.59, Pad See Ew with beef for $13.59, and cup of Steamed Rice for $1.99. Felt the portions were small and the dishes tasted burnt and too sweet. Found little burnt specks in our food making us wonder if they clean or use really old pans. We also found a tiny winged insect in our Rad Na. None of us were fond of the food. Felt the serve was really good, probably because of where we sat. read more

This is a nice Thai restaurant we go to often, and always order the Papaya salad to start. The Seafood Curry is another favorite. Sometimes can get busy though. Only docking one star because staff was rude a few years back during the pandemic read more

We love this place and have been coming here for years whether it be small group large group dine in or take out they do not disappoint and their lunch specials are still pretty strong value in these times parking of course is a nightmare in this shopping center but that should not be against them they could get busy at times read more

Been coming to this place for a while and extremely love their weekday lunch special!! Portions seem like vary which is unfortunate but for about $10 a plate that's hard to beat these days. We got the pad thai which is a staple for us but tasted a bit too tomato-y today, solid 7/10 - comes with peanuts, bean sprouts, and a lime. We also got the satay fried rice combo which was new but it came with a tom yum soup and salad, 6/10. Green curry is also a solid option and is spicy, comes with a side of rice and is flavorful. Lastly, we got the pad kee mao which you can adjust the spice level, 7/10 for us! All the dishes have a nice "wok hay" and are flavorful. Banana bay is a no fuss thai restaurant and can get busy. The staff is quick and they get tables in and out pretty fast. It's a chill laidback spot and is great for families and easy dinners. Good for big groups as well! read more

My wife recommended this spot to me as I was craving Thai style food on a Sunday. As soon as we entered, I could tell why this was such a popular spot as it was filled to the brim. We waited around 15 minutes as there was a wait list and got seated by a couch table next to the window. I'd say that service was pretty decent, I could understand that because it was super busy that the staff is running around everywhere but it did take a bit for our order to be taken. + points for clean interior and a nice bright design inside as well to create that brunch atmosphere. 1. Banana Bay Pad Thai Pad Thai of course is one of the most desirable dish when it comes to Thai food, so we had to try this one out. Portions are decently big, easily a shareable dish between another. The mix between the rice stick noodles, eggs, ground pork, bean sprouts, and crushed peanuts is the perfect match of sweet & savory. Super crispy and very addicting when chewing. There's also a lime if you that extra kick to the flavoring. Noodles are definitely fresh which is a huge plus. 2. Moo Yang First time trying Thai style pork and I'd must say that it was a surprising taste. They came in pork strips style that's marinated and is served with sticky rice & some leaf wraps for that extra flavoring. Super flavorful unwrapped & wrapped, can't really go wrong whichever way you decide to eat the dish. They're all bite size which is perfect for a extra bite. Portions are not that big but just right for a extra appetizer for your main entree. We overlooked the menu and I'd say that this is very much affordable for decent/high quality Thai food, most definitely one of the spots that worth visiting when in SoCal as there's other locations. read more

Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - Moo Yang (grilled pork with sticky rice in banana leaf) was grilled well but a touch on the drier side and the sticky rice was quite fragrant. We also ordered the Banana Bay Pad Thai but couldn't really tell what the difference was from a regular Pad Thai. The dish itself was a bit sweeter than expected but still delicious overall. Service: 5/5 - super quick service while being polite and friendly! They checked in on us a few times to ensure we had everything we needed. Ambiance: 5/5 - open spacing feels comfortable and clean. The white couches were probably not the best idea since it looked nice from a distance but was quite stained when you actually looked closer. Value for price: 5/5 - decent portion sizes for the cost of the food! read more
This was my go-to spot during my college years, so returning brought back a wave of nostalgia. It was nice to revisit. We ordered the chicken soup, garlic rice pot, and crying tiger steak. The chicken soup had great flavor; however, the chicken pieces were still attached to the tendons, which was not my preference. The crying tiger steak was tender and enjoyable. My favorite dish of the meal was the garlic rice-flavorful and well-balanced, with just the right amount of garlic. The staff was friendly, though service could use improvement. After taking our order, our server did not check on us after she took our order. It took quite some time to get anyone's attention for the check. We ultimately walked up to the front to pay our bill. Overall, the food delivered on flavor, and with more attentive service, the experience would have been much stronger. read more
I was here for their lunch specials. Small portions but lunch specials are cheaper and it came with a drink for extra $1.99. They offered fried rice dishes, pad Thai, curries, and other noodle dishes in their lunch specials between 11am - 3pm on Mondays through Fridays. I ordered their Pad Se Ew with pork. Noodles in Pad Se Ew were good and perfectly seasoned with oyster sauce. It was sweet as well as salty flavor. Comforting fried noodle dish. Tom kha soup was served hot in a boiling pot with variety of seafoods like squid, clams, shrimps, fish, and crabs in it. I liked the coconut flavor as well as lemon grass flavor of this soup. Good to eat there with a group of families or friends. Service was nice and staff were friendly. This place was almost full tables inside during their lunch hour. Their lunch specials are affordable and delicious here. Even though there is a big lot, parking can be difficult during lunch or dinner time. read more

Tried this place on a recommendation since we are not from the area. Let's start off that my review is based as an out of town visitor. I've never heard of this place before dining, however, I am glad that it is now on my radar and wish we had one closer to Ventura County, lol! Got seated pretty quickly. Menu has a good amount of variety to try. All our items we picked were tasty and more than enough to share. For a little over $60- imagine our surprise when the check came. Not only was lunch full of bursting umami flavors - they included drinks for under $2 if you get the lunch combo. Shock is an understatement but a happy shock, nevertheless. Plating was great with portions that is very well worth the price. You get flavor that feels home cooked and can wash it down with their Thai tea. I opted to get mine with no half and half as a lactose intolerant person, but OH-EM-GEEEE. Next time, I'm ordering extras to take for my trip home! We liked that it was a spacious dining establishment. Service was great & quick since we were hungry diners. We left Banana Bay with happy stuffed bellies! read more

I went here for the day before Thanksgiving to have a nice dinner with my girlfriend and her family. There was surprisingly a lot of people on the waitlist, but we didn't wait too long until we were shortly seated. The venue is very open and spacious with plenty of seating for various party sizes. The staff were kind and patient with us as we decided what we wanted to eat. Now onto the food: 1. Beef pad thai - this was my favorite and definitely satisfied my pad thai cravings. The fat from the beef added so much flavor to the dish. 2. Satay - I was afraid that this would be dry, but was actually very juicy! The bread was a nice addition to it as well. 3. Crying Tiger - Well cooked and large portions which was a good addition to the pad thai. 4. Papaya salad - this had a spicy kick, but was a good pallet cleanser. 5. Pineapple fried rice - Wasn't served in a pineapple unfortunately :( Although the rice was delicious. Always down to go back to Banana Bay for comfort food with good company read more
I was in the area for an escape room, and I wanted to eat something near the escape room for dinner with my friend. I had not been to Banana Bay in Temple City before, so I decided to come here for dinner. Banana Bay is a Thai restaurant that is quite spacious, and the staff are super nice. We got seated in a comfortable half booth half table in the back of the restaurant. The service was quite fast and attentive. My friend got a green curry and I got a continental fried rice. My wife got drunken noodles. I did not try the green curry. I tried my wife's drunken noodles and they were quite solid. My own continental fried rice was quite good. It came with Thai sweet chili sauce, a runny egg, and sausage. The chicken was a bit dry but the skin was super crispy. The fried rice was quite flavorful. Been going to Banana Bay for over two decades. We started going when it was only in Rowland Heights. The prices are very decent! The lunch special are so inexpensive for the amount of food you get. Some of my favorite dishes are the pad kee mao, house noodles, and continental fried rice. HAPPY THAIING! read more
We had a large reservation for Banana Bay with a party of ten. Making a reservation was super easy and they had the table ready and set for us before our party arrived. Food: 5/5 We orders a ton of food including curries, noodles, rice dishes, appetizers, and soups. My favorite dishes were their fried tofu, their papaya salad, and tofu pad se ew. Their favors are very rich and their side chilis and sauces add a lot of depth and spice. Service: 5/5 Their service was great! The food came out pretty quick after they took our order. Their waiters were attentive and came to take away our plates and refill our waters pretty often. Ambiance: 5/5 This place is very nice and spacious. I come here for a more casual dinner compared to the Rowland Heights location. This place is not as loud and good for chit chatting. I'd definitely come back! Catfish with no bone. Spareribs thats thin and crispy! Nothing else to say other than a perfect thai food place thats affordable! Price A+ Quality A+ Where else can you find such an amazing place!? Service was good, we got seated immediately and the place looks small. We went during off peak hours (weekday at 5:30 PM). Good choice for basic Thai food options. Comfortable seating and a large parking lot in a busy center. Lunch specials are well priced and offers discounted beverages as part of the package. Sharp waiters who are busy hustling. read more
Well I tried a couple of new things ! Tom Yum Soup - This was pretty good! 5/5 Sweet soup base and just the perfect amount of spice. You can adjust the spice level. Chicken Satay - Honestly wasn't a big fan of this. The chicken tasted like bbq and coconut and the sauce was way too sweet for my liking. The sauce was like a curry sauce. AMBIANCE 5/5. Noon on a Tuesday. Seated right away. Table for six, but we were four. We had space to be comfy. Nice booth with chairs on one side, except the sofa seat was very cracked and my friends didn't want to sit there, it looked so unpleasant. But ended up not wanting to make a fuss. Time for the owner to inspect/replace/reupholster the cream color pleather. Otherwise, beautiful modern Asian themed decor with open seating. FOOD 5/5 Great lunch specials. Reasonable prices. Ordered separate the Flying Pig 5/5 just so everyone could try it because you can't get it in a lunch special...use the sauce it comes with...mildly spicy but so gooood. SERVICE 5/5. Ordered dessert and i asked to wait to serve it after dishes cleared...our server did that. Asked a server to help us take a group pic, the server did that. Check ins and water refills and more napkins, they did that. Asked to have the check brought to me, to prevent squabbles over the bill, the server did that discreetly. Great service. Great food. Great place for lunch or dinner. TIP: Appeal to the parking gods, parking is free but can be a challenge at busy times. Reservations taken for a party of 6 or more. read more
