My friends and I came in for dosa night on Thursday. Upon being seated, my friend asked how much the buffet costs. The waitress rudely responded that it cost $15, not including tip. Every time we needed to order, she'd ignore us until one of us would have to speak loudly. She wouldn't clear our table unless we asked despite the amount of plates piling up. She'd give us an attitude if we asked for anything. I'd been looking forward to trying dosa night as dosa is a South Indian staple and I'd grown up eating it. The dosas contained barely any filling. The sambar was bland. The idli was salty. I would say it's an embarrassment to call this a South Indian restaurant when none of the food is seasoned properly. At the end when we were paying, I wrote exactly how much was being split on 2 cards and 1 friend paid in cash. They were so incompetent that they charged my friend more than the cost of the entire bill despite my writing how much to charge each person. We then had to get that fixed. Never coming back here again. Horrible food and incompetent service! The waitress needs to learn how to do her job properly! read more

Seriously disappointed with my experience here. Flavors were decent enough, but that's where the fun stopped. I placed my order at 6:11PM over the phone. The worker there specifically told me "at least 25 minutes." "No problem," I thought. I was staying at a hotel about 5 minutes away. I got there and paid for my order (which was already waiting for me) at 6:27PM. You do the math, that's 16 minutes. I got back to my hotel room less than ten minutes later and was disappointed to discover that my chicken tandoori was only very slightly warm. Almost like it had been sitting for awhile prior to me picking it up. Had I gotten there any later, it probably would have been cold. I definitely won't be ordering take out from here again, nor will I be going back. read more

This place is barely OK Indian food, and this area has so much better competition. I came in on a Thursday I believe, trying to give them another chance after a bad first experience and they had this street food buffet. It was really good. So I give three stars. Call ahead and confirm that Thursday is the street food buffet and enjoy that, but otherwise you can do better in the capital district. They have a nice place so hopefully they will step up their game and I will come back, otherwise I would not. read more

This is one of those places that makes you want to write a review. They got wide variety of dishes in the daily buffet that no other indian restaurants are offering. Their specials are chicken tikka masala, Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani, and the deserts. Especially weekend buffets are special.We got an amazing food with indian spices! Good value for money. I went for the dinner buffet and I wish I hadn't wasted my time n money. While the options look and sound good like "dosa buffet" and "indo Chinese buffet" the actual menu is just beyond disappointing. None of the dishes taste good. While they are still edible and have some taste they just are no where close to what they should taste like. Making bhaji for pav bhaji is extremely simple. Im not sure how they could mess up pav bhaji when all it takes is boiling veggies and just putting them in a blender with the masala. It made me think n realize that these restaurants don't really care about quality. Also, it was surprising to see that they have some good reviews. Looks like they are for the ambience and service and majority of the people who rated the food good don't seem to have been to India or have had some authentic food. All in all the $17 for dinner is crazily overpriced for that kinda quality of food. Not visiting again. read more

I my self am from northern part of India, so i would try not compare it with food back in India. this place is quite and nice to dine in. they have buffet every day from 12-3 pm . the food is amazing, trust me, i moved to Albany from New York and stayed in Jersey City for a while. I would say by far one of the best Indian food in Albany. The chicken tikka masala is delicious and then you have tandoori chicken and pakoras. quite a good variety in buffet but some daal are not that great. You can try spinach lentil and other vegetables. in dessert, rice kheer and mango moose are good (but check on the calories :P). read more

I've visited a vast amount of Indian restaurants in search of finding the best place to enjoy some food for a decent price. Everything was so savory and as far as the buffet goes, try everything! My favorite was the chicken curry and the pani puri station! The waiters were so kind and once you finished your plate, they removed your finished plate within the minute -- they're very aware and helpful. I was greeted with great hospitality and a nice busy buzz on a Wednesday night. I sat down to a complimentary crisps seasoned heavily with salt and spiced with cumin served with a tamarind sauce and a mint sauce. I ordered the samosas to start off my meal. The samosas were very delicious however they were extremely heavy. I expected a much thinner skin but instead I got a very dough-y outer wrap. For my entree I ordered the tandoori mixed grill with a side of garlic naan and was given a side of jasmine rice. The items from the tadoor were great. The chicken were SO moist and tender despite it being white meat. The salmon was tender and flaky and cooked just as well. I DID have an issue eating the lamb kebab because of the texture but the flavor was great. If you want a good idea of the food this restaurant carries you should definitely order the mix grill. The naan was cooked well and were tender and had a great mouthfeel. The rice was fluffed properly and very light. I was given a proper mango lassi that I loved for it's creaminess and tartness, the perfect accompaniment for spicy grilled meats. Great restaurant, would definitely come back. TIP: DEFINITELY GET SOME TAKEOUT AND EAT IT TOMORROW NIGHT. THE FLAVOR IS SO MUCH MORE INTENSE AFTER A DAY OF REFRIGERATION/ HOME MARINATION. read more

Take it from an Indian Food critic, food blogger and cook, this is one of the best Indian buffets I've had in the US. I've had Indian buffets in NYC, Long Island, Florida, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Boston. Here, the variety was great even for vegetarian folks. I was happily surprised to see pani puri and bhel puri on the buffet which turned out be absolutely perfect and yummy! That and fish fry, chicken chettinad, mutton masala, mushroom manchurian, paneer tikka masala, mirchi pakora were amongst the best tasting items. There were a few mediocre items like tandoori chicken, gobi tandoori, eggplant masala. But nothing too disappointing. I would definitely go back if I was to visit Albany again. read more

Everything you could possibly want in an Indian lunch buffet; from the fresh, steamy basket of naan delivered to each table, to the generously spiced soups, to the many excellent and assorted entrees, to the dessert that's actually worth saving room for, this place is excellent. When I went they had sumptuously spiced potatoes and paneer in a tangy butter sauce next to amazing goat curry, tandoori chicken, and the perennial British-Indian classic Tikka Masala, the "General tso's" of the Indian restaurant. Do not be ashamed to devour this inauthentic delicacy, for there are no hipsters to judge you in this hidden strip mall. There were several other dishes, too; Spicy Mint does not skimp. I had a mango lassi on the side, tangy and sweet and studded with little bits of mango. It was just the thing to blunt some of the spices, which, while not overwhelming, certainly weren't dialed down too much for the benefit of whitey. One thing that is unique to Indian food is the propensity for the vegetarian food to be every bit as good as the meat. That was the case here, as well, with plenty of variety for both vegetarians and omnivores alike. Finally, nearly but not quite stuffed, I went back for a little dish of dessert. A simple but rich and delicious mango custard as well as a variety of kheer made from vermicelli rice noodles, spiced with warm cardamom and sweet rosewater, and studded with pistachios; Indian desserts veer towards the sweet (and these were), but they were also exceptionally delicious. When is the last time you had a really good dessert on a buffet? Usually it's a gross afterthought, but here, it was every bit as good as anything else. These folks are detail-oriented, and clearly proud of their food. If you're in the area, you're not likely to find a better lunch, and I have very reason to assume the dinner and takeout options would be equally stellar. read more

So sad!! We used to LOVE this place so much and went all the time for lunch buffet and takeout. Ordered takeout tonight and it was unfortunately just really bad. Ordered butter chicken and sauce was so thin and had a very odd, very different flavor. Chicken was in small pieces and very bland. Also got the mixed grill which on thier website menu says includes fish, shrimp and chicken tandoori as well as a variety of kabobs; we got no fish, no shrimp just a variety of chicken in different marinades and 2 pieces of very tough lamb. We understand that menus need to be altered sometimes but a heads up would have been appreciated. Opted for the higher priced mixed grill because we wanted the fish and shrimp, would have just gotten chicken tikka if we knew. Also got chili chicken which was not even remotely spicy and so disappointing. Gobi manchurian was good, and naan was ok. So sad that they have gone down hill so far. They were very nice when we picked up the food and we hope they get back to the spicy delicious food they used to offer! read more

I have been here quite a few times. Even though they have small menu their quality of food, taste and service are good. They don't make you wait for long hours. So me and my fiance decided to cater food from them for our engagement party. They delivered it on time and the food tasted amazing. All of our guests were happy and inquired where we got food from. Delicious food, including south Indian specialties like dosas and deep-fried lentil doughnuts, which are pretty hard to find round these parts. Service was excellent: the server managed to keep my water glass filled (not an easy feat, given how much water i drink), brought out fresh sauces for me to wrap up with my meal, and even brought over a stack of paper napkins for me when he noticed me trying to discreetly wipe my nose with the edge of my napkin (eating spicy food makes my nose run and i was woefully under-prepared that day). My only complaint is that on my second visit, the lamb kebab i ordered was overcooked. However, my friend's shrimp and the chicken kebab i had ordered on my first visit were both cooked to perfection, so it may have been a fluke. read more

Finally got ourselves to Spicy Mint on a blisteringly hot Saturday morning. Cool and spacious inside with a lovely and delicious lunch buffet. Wonderful icy cold almond drink for starters. We appear to have been the first customers of the day, but soon after sitting down to sample all the different offerings, customers began to stream in. My water glass was filled constantly. Used dishes taken away quickly. Very courteous staff. Only thing missing was any kind of bean, chickpea or split pea, or dal dish. There was a lot of meat, rice, potatoes, vegetables. I have been to a plethora of Indian buffets in the Albany area and this might have been my worst experience. The food selection was pretty small and the taste left a lot to be desired. The food seemed like not a lot of effort was out into the preparation. I tried about 90% of all the dishes and was disappointed in everything besides the deep fried veggies and also the shredded cabbage. On top of the food selection and flavor being a disappointment, the service was also near non-existent. The waitress didn't even ask us what we wanted to drink, she brought us 3 cups of water and never came back to the table, even though myself and my two friends were out of water not even halfway through our meal. The place seemed to do decent business, which boggles my mind with Maharaja right down wolf 2-3 lights and that place is significantly better. If you are planning on trying this place out, do yourself a favor and don't. There is 0% chance I would ever try this place again. read more
