Had a nice weekend stay. There is a cute little parking lot that is. Not charged extra which is a plus. It is not far from the freeway or to get anywhere. The staff were nice and accommodating. The room is decent and clean. It is a decent size and we got the king size bed. There is an air conditioner but we just popped open the window and the breeze is nice and kept the room cool enough. If the neighbors are loud you can hear them but that is no fault of the lodge. The pillows are really hard and stiff and the bed is firm. read more

My sister and I stayed in Room 107 and became sick almost immediately. After the first night, we both developed respiratory symptoms including an itchy throat, nasal drip, sneezing, and headaches. By the second night, our symptoms had worsened. On the third day, I discovered black mold behind the toilet, and upon closer inspection, found more mold on the walls near the shower. It was also clear the area had been painted over previously, as there were visible paint lines around the shower -- a sign this issue has existed for some time. The front desk attendant, Michael, was empathetic, professional, and genuinely helpful. He moved us to another room, which we inspected and found no visible mold. He also stated he emailed management about the situation, especially since the mold had made us sick. I am immunocompromised, so this is not a minor concern. Unfortunately, our interaction with management was extremely disappointing. We were told the "cleaning lady" would handle the mold. This is alarming because black mold cannot be properly remediated by wiping or painting over it. In most cases, the toilet must be removed and the affected drywall replaced. Simply cleaning the surface does not address the underlying moisture damage or the mold growth behind the wall. I tried explaining this to him but he literally laughed at me. When we requested a partial refund -- especially since we were charged $233.77 for a Saturday night in a mold contaminated room -- the manager became defensive. When I mentioned we had photos and would be reporting the improper handling of mold, he responded by accusing us of leaving "broken glass" and "syringes" in the room and said he had pictures as well. Deflection at its finest! These accusations were not only irrelevant but false. Since he wouldn't stop talking over us to allow an explanation regarding the "broken glass" and "syringes they apparently have pictures of, I will explain here: * The "glass" was from a ceramic coffee mug that accidentally broke when we moved rooms. As guests, we did not have cleaning supplies to sweep it up. * The "syringe" was actually a plastic saline flush used for my sister's contact lenses -- not a hypodermic needle. Instead of listening, the manager repeatedly talked over us and argued. His response was unprofessional, dismissive, and concerning, especially given the seriousness of mold exposure. Had management handled this situation with empathy, honesty, and proper remediation, we would not be leaving this review. What worries me most is knowing that future guests may be exposed to mold and mycotoxins if the hotel continues to paint over the problem instead of addressing the underlying water damage. Michael was the only bright spot in this entire experience -- truly a gem in a place that desperately needs more of him. As for the manager's imaginative claims about "syringes" and "broken glass," we would love to see those photos. Please, go ahead and post them for everyone. We could all use a little entertainment after discovering we'd been staying in a moldy bathroom. Meanwhile, we're home detoxing from mycotoxin exposure, and somehow we still didn't receive even a partial refund for being placed in unsafe conditions. The defensiveness, the false accusations, and the complete lack of accountability were... impressive, in the worst way. Bless your hearts. An absolute disgrace. read more

What a quiet and comfortable stay here at the Stage Coach Lodge! It's not much in terms of amenities but what it does have is clean rooms and useful items. The room was very sizable as well as being clean. This spot was one of the few affordable places and clean places that I found online around the city of Monterrey. Parking is small but no issue, they only allowed one car per room. Definitely a good place to stay if you're coming as a couple, not sure for families. Central to all the good stuff around Monterey including being a 30 minute walk (or few minute drive) to the wharf and downtown Monterrey. Some things to note, they have coffee and plastic utensils at the front office which is clutch if you're getting takeout/frozen foods to eat in the room. We had a good experience I think mainly because we were just flat out exhausted by the time we got here. Slept like babies. I will say that nobody was in the office when we checked out the next morning so that wasted a trip back upstairs to leave the keys there on a cold, foggy day. And while the staffer did mention we could leave the keys in the room the evening we checked in, still seemed odd the office was locked without any indication why. And just generally there were little to no amenities. Understand this is a lodge so I guess not really something they offer here but seems very thin on the necessities. read more

RONALD PRASAD just gave me HORRIBLE service over the phone while I attempted to cancel a booking. While attempting to cancel a booking he denied a request from my travel agency. I had an urgent issue come up and could not make the trip but he had no empathy for my situation and told me he had no option then later admitted he did but would not do it because he was upset I used a travel site and not his site. He then argued with me raising his voice and telling me no matter what he'll be charging me. I was understandably upset. He said he could do what he wanted and that if I had a problem with it to take it up with the travel site, which I did and they approved my cancelation. However, he didnt. This guy has no class, lied to me, was so rude, and didnt care whatsoever that his decision would be costing me hundreds of dollars! What a horrible representative of this establishment! 0 stars out 5 for this kind of behavior. read more

Quick and easy check-in with friendly staff. Very helpful with information about local area and where to go. The location was close to Fairgrounds via shuttle for our priority, the Monterey Jazz Festival. It's also a short ten minute drive to Fisherman's Wharf with ample selection of restaurants and parking. Most of your excursions on the bay for sailing and whale watching also depart from the wharf. read more

I stayed here for one night this past weekend, and I was really impressed. Everything was immaculately clean and looked brand new. Our room was very quiet. (we did opt for the second floor). It was very spacious with a king size bed, and lots of room to move around and store things if we had stayed for longer. The bathroom was large and well stocked. For the price, I was expecting a lot less than what we received. I was happy about the Keurig with Peets coffee although I wish I would've brought milk because they only had powdered creamer. Lol. So that's a heads up for you. I really have nothing to complain about which is amazing. Highly recommend. read more

Nice room, super cute. I also liked that they have actual cable and not like other hotels who claim to have cable and when you arrive, it's only local channels. We were running late on the road so we called ahead and they kindly let us check in at 10:45pm instead of their standard time. Each room has a different name and it made it so special! While the rooms are non-smoking, It was really nice to have a smoking area with seating so my fiancé didn't have to smoke in a dark parking lot. This is the first time I've gotten to use a king sized bed and it was lovely, the curtains of the room were great at blocking light in the morning, the carpet felt clean which is great if you're like me and don't like wearing shoes indoors, and the bathroom was stocked with shampoo, conditioner, shower bell, goats milk hand soap, and makeup wipes. We stayed here over night and got engaged the next day, and I must say staying here and waking up here made today absolutely special. We saw the pool but didn't get a change to use it this time since we only stayed for one night, but we will definitely be rebooking here next time we're in the area and will try it out !! read more

My review of this hotel is very negative, starting right from the front desk. The person who checked us in appeared to be of Indian background, and the interaction felt cold and unfriendly. No smile, no welcome, nothing. He immediately said that our rooms were not ready and that early check-in would cost 25 dollars. We booked through Booking, and in the chat between the hotel and me there was a written confirmation that we could check in at 1 PM for free. The front desk clerk told me that this "does not concern him at all," and that I should resolve it with Booking myself. He said he never approved anything. Booking, of course, was impossible to reach because the phone line is automated. In the end, we were checked in only around 2 PM, closer to 3 PM. We had to leave, go get lunch, and come back later. Even though he saw that we were with children, he did not offer a place to sit or even a glass of water. The front desk basically does not function, and the whole experience felt worse than a basic roadside motel -- more like a low-level two-star place. We stayed in room 207. The air conditioner was so loud when heating that it was impossible to sleep. It rattled like heavy machinery. We practically did not sleep for two nights. Even though there were four of us, only two beds were made, and we did not receive any extra bedding. There was not even drinking water in the room. The vending machines that were supposed to dispense water charged our card but did not give anything. The room smelled damp. I am not coming back here again. read more

A great little place in Monterey. We were driving down the coast and stopped here for the night. The rooms are very nice and well maintained. Each room has a name, ours was the "Jellyfish Room". They have small pool, but it was too chilly for a swim. There was plenty of parking and we had a great stay. Highly recommended, would stay at again if we are in the area. read more

This hotel is in a quiet part of town, yet still a10 minute walk to the beach. it is clean and the deluxe king room was very comfortable, spacious and had a nonslip mat for tub and a makeup mirror In bathroom. Its not a 5-star hotel but the experience exceeded my expectations. The young lady at the counter was pleasant & accomodating, let me check in @11 instead of the standard 4 pm. Parking was free & felt safe inside the courtyard. Room was clean, the mattress was medium firm & comfy, pillows were adequate. Bathroom looked updated & clean, water was hot with good pressure. For the price & quality i was quite content Sure the walls were thin but thats true for most hotels. Check out was at 11 am, from my car I saw the cleaning lady opened my door & peeped inside my room @1015am, no doubt checking to see if i m gone so she can clean the room. This "Lodge" is not in the heart of Monterey, but really is a gem! It has something for everyone (even a dedicated smoking area for those few that still smoke). The rooms are spacious, modern, clean. It was close to the main road and the freeways! The place was nice and cozy, and clean. There was daily maid service. There was some issue with the cable which we googled and were able to triage and get the remote to work. We appreciated that there was a fridge and a microwave. There was also parking right near the front. We were able to refill our water bottles in the office near the coffee station. We would recommend this as a budget friendly place. read more

Usually for hotels, I pro and con everything out but I realized I don't have a lot of cons here. This hotel far exceeded my expectations. I was hesitant to stay here because of distance to the aquarium and star review on other sites, but it was a very easy 5 minute drive and it was a great place to stay. Side note, it's also a 2 minute drive to Dennis The Menace Playground and 3 minutes to a tasty dinner place called Melville Tavern. This place is better in person than the pictures posted. The staff is very friendly and informative. Even the manager greeted us. Housekeeping was helpful as well. The room was nice and spacious. It was recently renovated. The courtyard, lounge area, and pool were also renovated. Can't complain about the low price either. It's a small hidden location surprisingly quiet. Don't let the HWY fool you. You can't hear it. There's a lovely nursery next door. It's definitely a hidden jem. read more

First off, it's important to temper your expectations. Because despite the nice pictures shown online and the constant reference to this property as a hotel, this is actually a motel, and a pretty old property at that. Upon entering our room, we noticed that the safe had not been reset, so we were unable to utilize it. Thankfully, front desk was very prompt and quickly came up to reset the code. We were rather disappointed the following day when we came back to our room after a trip out to find that housekeeping did not clean our room. We were informed at that time that housekeeping only cleans the room every other day. The owner claimed he told us the day before when checking us in, but both my wife and me were there and neither of us heard him say so. Nor did we notice any signage at the front desk counter indicating such. Nevertheless, the did provide us with clean towels and toiletries, which we appreciated. Housekeeping does a pretty decent job of cleaning the rooms. However, the rooms themselves are quite past due for a more modern update. The wifi is also pretty weak here, and the walls rather thin. Also, a coin operated laundry room is available downstairs if you need. For the price, it's not a bad stay. But you should be aware of what you're getting, so you don't set your expectations too high. read more

We ran into some problems during our stay, but the owner made it right. Pros: * Useful amenities including a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV, safe, desk, and free WiFi that's reasonably fast * Facilities look updated and well-kept * Each room seems to have its own name. Ours was the Steinbeck Room and had a John Steinbeck canvas print - nice touch there * Family business where the owner mans the front desk * Price was fair Cons: * Our room had a noticeably squeaky floorboard (but we were in the room directly above the lobby, so I guess they don't mind hearing it!) * We could hear some traffic noise from the nearby highway Neutral: * No audible noise from neighbors, though we did hear some plumbing noise when they were showering * Breakfast is no longer offered, though there is still free juice and coffee in the lobby in the morning We stayed here two nights. The first morning, I woke up early (6am) to get ready for an event I had to go to, and was alarmed to find that there was no power! No lights, no outlets. Fortunately, the outage resolved 20 minutes later. But the bigger annoyance was that the shower valve was broken such that it only let through hot water. And man was it hot - I had to slosh it over me and not stay in one spot for too long to avoid getting burned. I reported this to the owner, Ron, and he was very apologetic and called their plumber. But this was Saturday evening and the plumber was unable to come out that day, plus the water would have to be shut off to the whole complex, which I recognized would be inconvenient for guests. So I told Ron that I would keep making do, and he offered a very reasonable partial refund. And the next morning when we were leaving, I saw the plumber show up. Stage Coach Lodge isn't a perfect place, but it's clear that the owner cares. That's a good sign, and I'm confident that this place will continue getting better. read more

My family and I stayed there Thanksgiving 2022 and liked it so we decided to stay again when we went for Christmas last year. I don't think we will be staying again. I'm not sure if they changed the cleaning crew or something. The bed my daughter slept in had some black dirt or something, my husband said there was hair in the bath/shower and there were small stains on the pillow cases. I left my charger plugged in,came back to the room after the cleaning crew tidied up our room and the charger wasn't plugged in. The 2 gentlemen working the front were friendly. read more

This hotel is conveniently situated between the Cannery Row tourist area and the old downtown section of Monterey, with super easy access to Pacific Coast Highway. Rooms are generously sized, quite clean, and quiet. Rooms also include refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, hair dryer, safe, and the other usual stuff. Pretty good place. Can't really think of much criticism. The soda machine near the laundry was completely empty and didn't look like it worked at all. Clean, quiet (except for our unruly children who luckily didn't get us kicked out), comfortable, and reasonably priced considering the area. $250 a night for a moderate, very small hotel room is outrageous if you ask me but by today's stardards and how expensive everything is in Monterey I guess it's fair. Great liquor store just down the street about a half a mile and great auto shop about a block away so both of those places ended up coming in handy. The pool was nice. It's a clean, nice hotel. $250 seems like a lot per night but I think that's just Monterey for you. So glad we live in Reno. read more
