We love coming here once or twice a year. The location is great. The staff is always professional. The view is spectacular. We love leaving the car with the valet and not worry about parking. We love the breakfast in the morning. However, last year the rooms are starting to look tired and dated. The feather beds are gone. The Spindrift is in need of some love. The fabrics in the room are fading and stained. The rooms need a fresh coat of paint. We stayed at the Spindrift a few weeks ago. Things had declined more in the last 6 or 8 months since our previous visit. The faucet in the tub could not be turned off. While the bedding was clean and the towels were fresh, the fabrics in the room were stained and funky. It looked like there was some repair work done to the ceiling that wasn't completed (can you just paint the ceiling?). When our breakfast arrived, the coffee carafe had a broken pour spout that was obvious (it needed to be thrown out). The bath salts that I used to love so much have been replaced with dollar store type bath salts that were not at all appealing. Things are just looking old now but the prices are soaring (we paid almost $500/night for a room with the water view). At the end of our stay, we checked out feeling a little sad that this quaint place isn't what it used to be. read more

I'm really disappointed. I booked a room here for July 18th-19th. I needed to move the reservation so I called July 17th to do so and they told me it was marked as a no show and booked for the 13th. Definitely was not. I was always only looking at one date which was the 18th and never even clicked on any other date on the calendar. Straight to the 18th Ana that was it. Clearly there was a glitch in the system and now I lost out on over $400 as they won't do anything about it. Not even a credit. Really bummed because I really wanted to stay here at some point. One of the most amazing and unique boutique hotels I have ever stayed at! This was a "middle stop" on my West Coast trip from LA to Portland. Spindrift Inn was the best hotel of my entire trip and exceeded my expectations. The ambiance and decor is lovely. I want to bottle the wood burning smell of this place-- heaven! The Rooms: Cozy, cute and quaint! Spacious room and bathroom with modern amenities. The bed was soooooo comfortable, I got the best night's sleep! We had a corner street view room overlooking Cannery Row. Window seating was great for reading a book or people watching (lol!). The Staff: Beyond accommodating and friendly. We met a bellhop in the elevator who made some small talk with us (where you from, what brings you out this way, yada, yada, yada). Turns out he knew some people that live in our area and he gave us an awesome dinner recommendation! Wish I knew his name, he was great! They also have a complimentary breakfast that we thankfully took advantage of. Nice little selection of breakfast breads, cereals, fruits, cheese, eggs, juices and coffee. All we had to do was fill out the card and hang it on our door... breakfast was served on a beautiful tray in the morning and I got to relax and take in the views and ambiance. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Without hesitation, I can definitely say that we paid for top notch service and accommodations. Friendly staffs! We've received exceptional service from valet to front desk and we were able to get our room when as arrived at 12:40pm and we were there on July 4th, 2013. The valet service is $21USD per day and you can get your cars as many times as you can. Although we didn't get the room that faces the ocean, but facing the street works fine with us. The hotel decoration makes me feel like a princess; I like how liked use vintage style for the room. One thing I didn't like is no air conditioning; I recommend to come here in cooler days. We did need to get our car in the afternoon; one of the valet turned the AC to the coldest while he was driving from their parking lot to the hotel. Seriously? You need to keep it in 60 degree??? We were freezing when we got our car; this is the very first time a valet guy changed our setting like that. [One star off here] The bed was somewhat comfy, but it's a bit too soft and not enough support for our backs. They did provide breakfast of our choice to be delivered to our room in the morning; however, the breakfast sucks, just like what you'll get from a motel lobby. Everything was alright until when we checked out; the front desk lady charged me full price of the hotel plus valet when the room was already paid for from the Internet. Although she apologized immediately and credited me back the charge, but the charges still stayed on my card charges list for a week - another star off for not being careful. She should have waived the valet charge or given some discount since it was her mistakes, but no, nothing was received for the apology. I guess next time we'll stay with the Hilton or Marriott brands when we visit in the future. read more

Indeed the MOST romantic hotel in Monterey!! We have the ocean view room on the 3rd floor. Fireplace in the room. Perfect for weekend getaway with your significant others. We have the fireplace on all the time. Breakfast in the room. The room service setup the table and chairs facing the bay window. The view is just priceless!! The staffs in the hotel are super friendly. They remember our names and greet us all the time. They give great recommendation on the restaurants and activities. This hotel is definitely on my stay again list. It's so close to everything and in walking distance. Loved not having to drive anywhere this weekend. The rooms are cozy and cute. Enjoyed the fireplace - you don't usually see those in hotels anymore along with windows you can open all the way. The reason I did not give 5 stars was we did stay on the Cannary Row side. It's now 10:06pm and live music is blaring on the street. I get it it's a Saturday night but it's very loud. Boo! Regret not getting an ocean view now but it being $200/$300 more a night was too much for us. But, on the plus side we can see a small portion of the ocean from our side windows. Absolutely stunning boutique hotel! After a long drive up from Anaheim it felt great to walk into such a relaxing and cozy place. Spindrift is right in the middle of all the shops and restaurants in Monterey so you can walk around and explore very easily. Everyone working there was great. They valet parked our car and had us into our room within minutes of our arrival. When we walked back in after dinner we were greeted by the lady at the front desk saying "welcome home" and my husband and I really did feel at home there. Our room had a feather bed, fire place, dimmer switches, and bay windows. Right outside our room we had access to the outside stairs leading up to the rooftop patio where we could sit and look out on the beach. There was no air conditioning but the ceiling fan did a good job of cooling the room and this was in August which I'm sure is the hottest month. I keep my air conditioner at home set very cold and I was comfortable with the fan on so I doubt the lack of AC would be an issue for anyone. They bring a list of breakfast items you can have brought to the room for free which was very convenient. They have simple things like toast, boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, yogurt, cheese, and granola. It was definitely plenty to eat. My only regret is that we did not stay longer. I can't wait to visit again! read more

The room is great - bay window seating is awesome, wood fireplace is always a plus and the in room dining table turned every meal into a memorable ocean view experience. My last visit was a true disappointment, as the room I given was a total misrepresentation of their "most popular" room I selected. It was a small room that didn't look anything like the ones I stayed in previously, and it certainly didn't look like the one pictured on their site. No bay window, no dining table, no wood fireplace. I expressed my concern to the manager, who offered to adjust our room cost since all other options were sold out. We had a fabulous time during our stay! This boutique hotel bed & breakfast was a great way to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! The staff were excellent and even made our reservation to a wonderful restaurant to celebrate our special day! The service of our morning breakfast was delivered to our room daily where we enjoyed a spectacular view of the beach! The window seats were my favorite resting spot and the fireplace kept us warm even with having a window open to hear the birds and sounds of the ocean! Victorian Charm: old style service. They offer valet for $21 a night and they'll retrieve your vehicle at any time. Which may not be needed since you're in walking distance to nearly everything here on Cannery Row. The lobby: check into a real front desk, literally a desk with chairs. There's a large wood burning fireplace and Victorian style furnishings. This is also where they'll serve the wine and cheese. The elevator door may surprise you as it opens with great conviction! But, it's a smooth ride & after all the walking it's better than the stairs. The bed is amazingly comfortable with soft pillows. The Ocean Front rooms have amazing views & they provide binoculars so you can spend hours gazing into the ocean taking in the wildlife. We saw Sea Otters, both day & night as well as large pods of Dolphins & of course the endless numbers of birds. The room offers a seating area at the windows and a bench with pillows, the windows open so be careful not to lean out too far! There are large chairs with an ottoman in front of the fire as well as a large new tv, which we never turned on. They have a mini bar area and offer various items for sale, like a sardine factory book. It's a very nice hotel. They offer free wifi and a continental breakfast delivered to your room free of charge. The check in was a bit of a hassle as we used hotels.com just before arriving & they didn't get the reservation in their system. We had to give them the confirmation # our email address the price quoted and type of room booked. Check in took quite a while. This process should really be updated. All in all, as long as you're not insisting on brand new modern everything, you will be happy. If you enjoy character and charm, you'll love it. Staff was also friendly & helpful. read more

This hotel is located on Cannery Row and is in very short walking distance to restaurants and shops! There is valet parking, and when we arrived, someone from the hotel was out there within a couple minutes to unload our bags. Hotel staff were very warm, friendly, and accommodating -- probably more so than a lot of other hotels we've stayed at. We stayed in a downstairs suite that felt almost like a little apartment. There were hardwood floors throughout, which we didn't expect. There was a room with a sofa, chairs, table, TV, and a bathroom, and then a hallway that had another bathroom with both a bath and shower. The hallway leads to where the bed is. Then there's two stairs that go down to a sitting area with a fireplace, another TV, love seat, table, a desk, and large windows with really stunning ocean views. We loved hearing the roaring waves crashing, so relaxing to fall asleep to that. There is also a private patio to that room. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Pillows were not. Breakfast is continental, but not complaining. We have a toddler who is kind of a picky eater, and she was more than happy to eat the flavored yogurt and fresh fruit. There's also toast, muffins, hard boiled eggs, cereal, juice, milk, and coffee available. A few cons. As mentioned, we have a toddler, and had we known there were those two steps in the room, we probably would have booked a different room, as our toddler took a spill down them twice on the day that we arrived. There is a curved metal railing, but it was too high for her to be able to hold onto. So if you are traveling with little ones, you may want to consider a different room. Furniture is very outdated. The chairs were not very comfortable to sit on, but the sofa in the main sitting area was not too bad. There is not a dresser in the room so there's no storage for clothes other than the closet. There are some night stands on either side of the bed that do have drawers but they are very small and not deep enough to really accommodate a five-day stay. There is a refrigerator, but no wet bar. Not a big complaint, but when you need to wash sippy cups and other stuff, it makes it easier to have a wet bar. Overall, this was a nice stay, and we'll probably be back. read more

Beautiful location. Stayed four nights for a total of $1800.00. My card was charged multiple times (4 x $2300=$9200) .and was told not to worry these charges would fall off before we left. Upon leaving they charged my card for the final total. My card started getting denied and was now over limit. I have called multiple times and been told over and over that they don't see these holds. (I was told by my credit card company they are supposed to re-credit these not just clear them). Two of the holds have dropped off after 2 weeks. the last two are supposed to drop off on the third of next month! Thanks for nothing, will never stay there again. read more

5 stars all the way! The inn is on the pricier side, but it absolutely worth every penny. We took the ocean view and the views along with waking up to the sound of the ocean in the morning makes it worth it. Service was excellent throughout and the hotel staff took care of all our request. They even sent us a bottle of champagne on the house when they got to know of our anniversary! They do have a wine and cheese reception in the evenings. Breakfast is served to your room based on your food choices and at your preferred time. The location at the center of cannery row also puts most visiting spots within walking distance. If you're visiting Monterey for a romantic weekend, this is the place to stay! read more

I came here over the weekend to literally "get some air." Opting for one overnight stay I requested a room with a view. When I arrived parking was simple enough. The valet was very sweet and was quick about making sure my car was taken care of. Check-in was easy and I made my way up to my room. The view was not a ocean view but one of Cannery Row. Not what I was expecting but not something to get upset about. The bed, while pleasant enough and charming to look at, was very uncomfortable due to being far to soft and lumpy. My back was not happy. In the morning you get breakfast served to your room which was nice but I wish they had more options compared besides hard boiled eggs, cereal, coffee and toast. The one thing that bothered me was I discovered an open bottle of water with the Spindrift Inn label on it in the fridge. As I was checking out I informed the front desk of this so as not to be charged. Unfortunately, the message I left at the front desk didn't carry through and I found the charge on my statement, resulting in me contesting it with my bank and having it reversed. It's a nice, quaint hotel with stunning views but I'll probably try another hotel next time I come to Cannery Row. read more

It's obviously an older hotel with a vintage feel to it so I expect outdated. Hotel was still very clean and staff were very friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed our stay very much. We come to Monterey for a getaway every now and then. This weekend we were at Cali Roots music festival so I didn't get a chance to take pictures of our room here but I assure you this is a great stay for a smaller location right in the heart of cannery row read more

My husband and I spent the weekend here for our 15 year anniversary. Check in was easy. They have valet. A couple of times my husband had left his phone and sunscreen in the car and the Valet had no problem grabbing these items and bringing them straight to the room. They offer a continental breakfast service sent to your room in the AM. My only gripe would be the american cheese they put on the fruit and cheese platter, would rather not have had it. When you think of a chees in a platter like theirs I would think of a more cubed cheddar cheese of some sort. There was a fire place in the room that we were excited about, we over did it and made the room really hot. But that was our fault. Our room over looked the street and it was fun to sit out there and people watch. We went during the pandemic so be ready with your face mask, it is heavily enforced. My wife and I spent two nights during the week at the Spindrift Inn. We were able to check in early and had a room on the third floor facing Cannery Row. The room was nice, clean and we loved the sauna adjoining the bathroom. Staff was attentive and polite. Ordered one meal from Lalla Oceanside care next door, which was delivered to our room and it was very good food. Location was perfect and close to lots of attractions and restaurants. This is not the hotel's fault, but the road outside was noisy at night with high performance cars driving around the parking garage across the street and the last day a sanitary sewer truck was cleaning the sewer. An oceanside room would probably eliminate the issues. Overall, we highly recommend the hotel. read more

I was taken to the Spindrift Inn by surprise on my birthday in April and wow what a surprise it was! With covid -19 going on I wasn't expecting to go anywhere and was quite bummed but my Fiance did a great job working with the hotel and ensuring we stayed safe during our stay. The staff were so friendly and helpful and respectful of the restrictions put in place. Our room had a cute hand written happy birthday card for me and a complimentary bottle of wine which was also another really nice surprise. What more could you want than a beautiful and spacious hotel room on the water in walking distance of a world class aquarium and lots of restaurants. This was our third stay and we were upgraded to a room overlooking the small beach below and the Monterey Bay. All rooms have comfy king beds, a lovely window seat, a gas fireplace and much more. The valets brought our car promptly each time we needed it. Breakfast was plentiful and served on a large tray on the table in our room. The staff were helpful. I'll start off by saying this was booked through Hotel Tonight. On our way to Monterey to celebrate a birthday weekend I receive an email and call from Hotel Tonight indicating that the hotel made an oversight and could not accommodate us for our stay....This was very upsetting, as an alternative they offered to place us at Casa Munras in historic Monterey (location was in downtown away from Cannery Row) they indicated that there would be no charge and assured us that breakfast and other amenities available at Victorian Inn would be available at Casa Munras....We thought okay crisis averted but then we received another email and call from Hotel Tonight indicating that Casa Munras didn't have capacity either so they were going to place us at Spindrift Inn but would now be responsible for parking charge. With no other option available we decided Spindrift Inn would work as it placed us back in the area we wanted to be in. To avoid any misunderstanding and surprises I elected to call Spindrift Inn directly to confirm we in fact had a room reserved for us and if there could be any accomodations for the hassles. We were told that they could not waive parking but would be able to split the cost. They indicated that the room would be a king size room with oceanview and balcony. I felt reassured and less irritated. Upon checking in the service was lackluster, we went upstairs to the room and opened the door and it smelled of must and or mildew and it was certainly not an oceanview as it was directly over Cannery Row. I don't know if this is Inns of Monterey's (Monterey Bay Inn, Victorian Inn, Wave Street Inn & Casa Munras) mode of operation but it certainly felt like a bait and switch and I would have appreciated if they were more transparent in their actions rather than tell me one thing on the phone and then let me experience another. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this collection of hotels in Monterey. read more

I stayed here in May 2017 on my month-long California solo road trip. This inn is BEAUTIFUL and has an unparalleled view of the ocean. I literally opened my window and had a direct ocean view - I could've hopped out onto the sand and been about 5-10 feet from the ocean. I loved it so much and was so charmed I left my windows open listening to the surf for hours before I went to sleep. Parking is valet only or you can park on the street or in one of the garages but you are going to have to pay. I arrived late, after sunset, and was departing first thing in the morning so I was able to park about 2 blocks up on the street after hours and left before they started monitoring the meters again. But if you are staying several days you are going to have to do something more permanent with your car as this place is on the low street by the ocean and there is no parking like that on Cannery Row. It's right in the heart of everything so you can walk to dinner and shopping and the main Monterey drag. I spoke to staff and had them make some suggestions for places to see when I left the next day and got a map and some suggestions. Everyone was very kind and my in-room breakfast was delivered promptly as ordered the morning before check-out so I could eat up before I left. Breakfast wasn't amazing, it was standard fair like yoplait yogurt, fruit and some pastries and cereal but it was fine. They can also deliver from a nearby restaurant to the room if you desire. The room itself was beautiful and I loved it - it had a fireplace and a large bathroom. It's an interesting layout so there wasn't a lot of room for my large bags - but it was stunning and I hope to come back and spend more time in Monterey. read more

Well, what can I say...we were REALLY disappointed with our stay. For one, none of the staff were wearing masks. Honestly, coming from the field I work in, it was a huge disappointment that they were not compliant with federal recommendations to help slow the spread of COVID in an indoor setting. We are not out of the woods yet and this made my husband and I both uneasy upon arrival. Second let down: When we asked for our car to go out on the town, on several occasions, there was only one valet working despite the hotel being very busy. It took way too long to get my car, to the point where we almost missed our dinner reservations twice! Should amend the staffing to accommodate the number of patrons present. Pretty straightforward, no? Third let down: The continental breakfast was not good at all. No organic options, coffee was meh. Just not a good breakfast by any modern standards. And finally the last let down: The room. The fire place is a nice touch, but it literally makes the room a furnace even when turned off and in blustery weather. The thermostat in our room for the regular climate control did not work and the fire place roasted us the whole time. There were no instructions for working anything in the room and oh, did I mention the TV didn't really work either? Disappointed is an understatement... I really had high hopes from the photos and description for this hotel, but honestly for what we were charged for this complete let down, I would absolutely recommend staying elsewhere. read more

I have only been in my hotel room for a few hours and I'm already in love with the hotel. It is right on cannery Row with great views of the row or great views of the ocean. The staff is so incredibly friendly, and incredibly accommodating which has been such a breath of fresh air after coming right off a bad experience at a hotel. My room was not ready when I checked in (I was early) so not only did they take my luggage for me while my family and I walked around Cannery Row, they put it up in the room for me and then called me as soon as my room is ready. I am on week three of a long adventure with my three children and service like that is so extra appreciated and so incredibly helpful. I will 100% stay here again and I am bummed that I only booked one night. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. We had a 3rd floor room with an ocean view. The windows open up onto the beach and we were able to get a nice breeze and fall asleep to the wave crashing. The one draw back for me is the lack of screens or anything keeping things from falling out of said windows. Since we had 2 young children in our party, I was extremely nervous about the windows. Other than that, it was a beautiful room with comfortable beds, clean rooms, and friendly /helpful staff. It is a little pricey, but worth the money. read more

My husband and I had a weekend getaway to Monterey and this place was great, but it did have its pros and cons. The location is right in the middle of cannery row. The valet was easy and the front desk staff was nice. We were able to valet our car early and pre-register. We walked around and they called us when our room was ready. We arrived in our room right at 4pm. We were lucky enough to get a corner room which had a wrap around balcony. The room was cozy and comfortable. They had service to get extra pillows for more comfort which we did. The little complimentary cheese/wine offering was nice, and the continental breakfast was awesome. Good options and they bring it to your door and pick up the tray afterwards too. Definitely take advantage of those! As for the downsides, there were a few. The stairs are on the outside of the building. On a personal note, we were on the second floor so it seemed more rational to take the stairs rather than the elevator for one floor - take it as you will. The TV is mounted above the fireplace and the chairs are really close so if you want a good view of the TV while sitting on the chairs, you either have to move the chairs way back or sit on the bed. No blower in the bathroom. The hand and body soap left a residue on the body which I ended up using more water than wanted. Minor side story. We were there too for my birthday and after checking out, my husband told me he had asked the front desk in the evening if there was anything they can do for me as a surprise. They said they'd send up a box of chocolates and a card along with our breakfast in the morning. Unfortunately the surprise never came, and he was slightly sad. Hope they're able to accommodate the next request. Nonetheless, still a nice stay. read more

Beautiful spot! Love the customer service and the view. I wish they enforced quiet hours as the corner deluxe suite is right next to the stair well that leads out to the beach. A lot of kids running in and out, without locking the door. Otherwise, great stay! read more

Great location Close to everything downtown. If your room has a fireplace, don't light it. We lit ours and the chimney chute said it was open but it smoked out our whole room and our clothes spelt smoky the entire trip. Also when we checked in on the 20th in the evening the receptionist was not friendly. I asked how many floors the hotel had and she said 4. I kindly asked if we could have the top floor and she really responded "WE ARE COMPLETELY BOOKED"in a very loud demeaning voice. Our friends who checked in along with us in the adjacent room responded as well how rude and unfriendly she was. What made the stay more enjoyable was that room service and the valet were extremely friendly. read more
