Sailing towards San Francisco after our overnight at Sausalito.

I recently completed my Bareboat Chartering Course (ASA104) with Spinnaker and in fact I've completed all my sailing instruction here. Without doubt, every instructor at Spinnaker knows there stuff and is both a good instructor and sailor. My instructor (Dan) is a little gruff at first, but boy does he know his stuff. From captaining ferries on the Bay, to delivering sail vessels up and down the coast, sailing to Hawaii on celestial navigation after a battery fail, he's done it all and he's got stories to share. Throughout my time sailing with Spinnaker I feel my sailing skills have continued to grow and develop and I feel ready for more adventures. More importantly I also feel part of a community and have developed many friends through sailing here and I highly recommend them. They just had 3 instructors win ASA instructor of the year - out of only 30 nation wide and 3 of 4 awarded in the Bay Area, you'll be hard pressed to find better. The only downside is that Redwood City isn't the prettiest location to sail from, but it is definitely convenient if you live on the peninsula.

Docking at pier 1 and a half for some coffee.

Finally made it under the Golden Gate Bridge as a skipper.

Their surfskis are super nice. They have V5, V8s, V10s. You can start all the way from beginner and make your way to the olympics on V10s. The boats are in brand new condition. The paddles are grat. The club also has two functional outriggers but no paddles. But at least they let you paddle them, unlike all the annoying outrigger Hawaiian clubs who won't let you touch their single Outriggers for fear you might break something. I was mainly an outrigger guy, so I loved this place. The people in the club were great. Mainly Chris Flynn, Operations Director. He let me fix the outriggers and paddle them. When there was an issue with a former club taking away my paddle he made them give it back. Anything you ask and he is happy to give it a try, you need parts, classes. So, if you have some spare change and want to go paddle BIAC is the place. Spotted a couple Gray Whales from a distance, and after a tip from another boat were able to get closer to two others swimming together and ride along with them for a while. Captain Smitty and Lee were great! Knowledgeable, friendly, informative, and great stewards of the sea, and marine life. We definitely recommend these guys. It was so clean, well until we all made a mess. It is a lovely boat. We felt so safe with the crew. The Riptide is owned by Capt. William Smith. He has been a licensed captain for over 30 years. You will find it located on "H" dock at Pillar Pt. Harbor in El Granada (near Half Moon Bay), California. The Captain was with us and he was able to help the weak ones, like me, without making me feel like I did not belong. The boat leaves super early in the morning so get some sleep the night before. I had to nap after. Go to their website to see what type of fish is in season or you will not be happy. We went for Rockfish and caught a few and were so happy. We grilled it all up and it was great and we were able to serve a lot of people. I was hoping to see a whale, but sadly, did not. I think they are pretty rare to see in that area. They have clean bathrooms. We will be back, this time for salmon.
