Came here for an early lunch, and unfortunately, it was not a good experience. We were the only customers in the restaurant, and the waiter didn't seem very friendly or welcoming, although she did say hello and sat us. We ordered a salad, which came out right away but was basically just lettuce with a small amount of shredded carrot. We were charged $6 for it, which felt very overpriced. We ordered sushi rolls, but they didn't taste fresh. I had the bento box and unfortunately, ended up getting sick afterward and wasn't able to eat for the rest of the day. What also stood out was that a woman came over to ask if everything was okay after we had already finished our entire meal. Since we were the only people in the restaurant, it would have been nice to have someone check on us while we were actually eating, especially considering the food quality. I won't be returning and I can't recommend this place.

This is a hole in the wall place that you won't notice easily. Street parking only. Ambiance: 5/5 Restaurant is bigger than we expected! Plenty of tables and can get loud later in the evening. Service: 3/5 There was only 1 lady waiting the entire restaurant. She was attentive in the beginning but her service became lacking when it got busy. Food: 4/5 Skewers were good but not a lot of options for seafood. Sushi was good; fish's quality was fresh and buttery. Fried rice was surprisingly good too!

Another fine evening , Excellent food . Kinda getting use to how this works. Come in sit down. Drinks ordered, take your pen and order the dishes you want on sticks , and order sushi. Come to think of it I never saw a drink menu. They have different types of beer and sake. But not sure of the prices. Food came out fairly quickly. And it's gotten busier than last time . I still enjoyed everything, we finished off all the items we ordered.

Friday evening was busy, with a few people waiting inline. Lucky our friends were already seated so we just joined in. It was the first time here so we ordered a bunch of skewers and grilled stuffs pretty much one each for tasting. The stood outs: - Edamame - I didn't touch it until the other dishes to arrive, thinking it's just edamame right, whatever. I was wrong! It's perfectly soft and very savory. I kept on eating it throughout the meal. - Agendashi tofu - Again, another app. I was expecting a oily fried thigh battered tofu. No, it was soft tofu with lightly fried skin in a flavorful dashi sauce. - Grilled oyster - We ordered two small and two large. Honestly the size differences are not significant. Smooth texture, lightly sauced, very meaty, cooked perfectly. - Grilled baby Napa cabbage - $4 for 4 strips of Napa cabbage sounds crazy yeah? The skill of creating the Maillard is worth it. Special shout out to our server Linda! Above and beyond!

I hate to give a newer restaurant a low rating. But a lot to improve on. All the skewers were kind of too salty. The meat skewers all tasted like same seasoning used. The lion king, 49ers and double hamachi rolls all $14.50 were tiny. Only 6 pcs and 8 pcs, the fish were tiny sliver. The sushi rice tasted plain with no rice vinegar. The service was nice but didn't get checked on until after finishing. I won't be returning here. Street parking.

First time here. Plenty of parking. I think it's great that they accept reservations. My party ordered sushi and skewers. Came here on a thursday night night, so it wasn't really busy. We were seated right away and was given about 5 minutes to look over the menu so we can order. Sushi items that we selected were great, but were smaller than what I'm use to getting. The skewers that my kids ordered was a hard miss. So I guess how they do it here is they precooked the skewers in the back, and place it on a metal griddle at the table. Which is kept warm by tea light candles. Maybe we came in on off night because our griddle was only lit when the skewers came. And not even 5 minutes later, one of the tea lights died. So it took longer to warm up that griddle. They all tasted the same, seasoned with the same thing. A tad bit salty to be honest. The service was great though, they were all nice and accommodating. But I might stick to sushi only the next time I come around.

I want to preface that I'm originally from Vancouver, Canada, where bbq skewers and sushi are not uncommon--so I feel like I have some street cred when it comes to these things and I've been here twice already! Location: As some other Yelpers have pointed out, this restaurant is nestled in a quiet San Bruno neighborhood just off El Camino which makes it super accessible while also having nice ample street parking in a not-so-busy area. But don't let the humble location fool you into thinking this is just some mom n' pop place. Ambiance & Service: Love their accent wall filled with fun Chinese drinking and eating slogans. It really makes you feel like the owner wants you to have fun, chill, and enjoy some good eats with some drinks. Cool vibe all around where you can hang out with friends and just have a good time. I think it's also important to mention that this place was super clean. I came here with my 7 month old baby and there was lots of room to fit my stroller. The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating offering me a highchair or making way for my stroller. I would say this restaurant is family friendly as I saw a few other young families dining here, too. Food: I came with a group of friends the second time around and was able to order a bunch of different skewers and sushi to try. Everything was flavorful, well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and super fresh. Here are some notable dishes that I loved and would recommend: - Edamame. Don't sleep on these. I ordered 2 of these because they kept getting devoured by my friends. Not your typical boring salted edamame. Thank me later. - Lotus root chips. Another crowd favorite! If you like potato chips, give these a go! Perfectly paired with a beer - Salt & pepper corn. You think you know corn ribs? Let me get you on these and then you can thank me later. - Potato skewers. The kids loved these and so did I! - Chicken wing skewers. Love these so much! The skin is cooked beautifully where you get a nice crunch along with the medley of spices - Pork neck skewers. Lovely textures of soft and crispy - bbq beef skewers. Super tender and perfectly seasoned - lamb skewers. Again, tender and juicy - Jumbo chicken wing. I haven't seen any other place do this so it was so fun to see! It takes the chef a long time to meticulously cook this so it was definitely a treat! - Nigiri & Sashimi. All so fresh and clean tasting - Salmon skin roll. Perfect cook on these I love how each table gets a warming element for the skewers. Since they're heated using tea light candles, they don't cook your food but instead keep them warm in between bites and drinks. Nice thoughtful touch. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a chill place to wind down with family and/or friends. I believe this place is still fairly new so not many people know about it yet, but once word gets out it'll get super busy. For now, you should be able to visit on a weeknight without having to wait too long for a table. Go go go!

Heard about this place from a friend who said I needed to check it out. Little skeptical at first as it's in such an unassuming area. Wouldn't expect a good sushi/skewer restaurant to be hidden away like that. Skewers is where this place shines to me. I ordered almost one of each and honestly I was impressed. Especially for the price. Typically skewers are expensive in the Bay Area when you want quality, but Spiral provided the quality at a very reasonable price. Sushi was really good too. Wish I took pictures of everything. Sushi chef seems to know what he's doing and the service was fast and friendly. Another thing that stood out is the place is clean! A clean bathroom is always a big selling point to me. I'm coming back for more skewers and rolls soon!

Great little spot for sushi and skewers! We were craving sushi so left skewers for a return visit. The searing on the fish had great flavor. Service was friendly and helpful.

My friend was coming to visit and my husband found this new place and asked us if we wanted to try it. Sushi and skewer sticks? What a weird combo! What was I thinking? It was a GREAT combo! The restaurant itself was super cute and the waitress was super friendly and helpful! The food was even better! I was blown away! All of us kept saying "mmm" as we bit into each different piece. Our favorite sushi roll was the Romeo and Juliet. We ended up ordering another one of those along with the 49er. Each of the skewer sticks were packed with flavor and everything tasted super delicious! I can't wait to come back to try the other stuff!

    Seafood fried rice, various skewers

Very empty restaurant on a Sunday 7pm, which was a little concerning, but fine. The service was prompt , and the place was nicely decorated, so that's a plus. The food was bland. I think the only seasoning was salt, pepper, some spicy flakes. Chinese bbq from other restaurants usually have cumin/Chinese bbq seasoning which this place lacked. I think I was expecting Chinese bbq as described but met mediocre food. They were also out of many items on the menu ... Hopefully they will have better food since it seemed like a newer place

Food - ordered a ton of sushi and skewers. Sushi - chef's choice came with a variety of super fresh sushi. Salmon belly was a special and it was perfectly seared. Negihama roll was fresh and tasty. all the sushi was super good and fresh Skewers - ordered a variety of skewers from lamb, chicken and beef. The meats were perfectly seasoned and tender. You can choose to have it spicy or non spicy, which was nice since my bf eats spicy and I don't. Quail eggs were delicious Service - got seated pretty quickly and food came fairly fast. Ambiance - cute spot with lots of seatings, maybe 10 tables or so. Interior had a sushi bar as well for more cozy seating and overall was very clean and nice chill vibe.

What a gem! Everything we have tried has been delicious. We enjoy being able to get amazing sushi and skewers all in the same place. Notably, we have been to many skewer places and this has some of the most flavorful and tender. Service and ambience are great too. Very clean inside. We have been twice and both times have been, so good. If you want to try a new place this is it.

So here it is coming from Sunday night working up a small appetite for supper- I definitely had to…read morethink about where to go and so I thought about it -"Let's try something different, but not too far off" and so I landed at a restaurant I always wanted to try after passing by many times - the Smiling BBQ at El Camino Real - and it should have a specific caption lol, "Beifang/Northern Chinese BBQ." So I went in around 8pm not to bad - a very cozy down to earth feeling, restaurant was clean and also had that Northern Chinese vibe. The restaurant was family owned so the manager basically just spoke Putonghua/Mandarin - talkabout like lowkey down to earth (it's as if you gotta be really into the Chinese vibe to get the experience at this joint ). Restaurant was super clean actually for a Chinese place, "chuu bian juo"-or what he said was "have a seat anywhere," (I should've asked do they have maotai and cigarettes lmao like in Chinese fashion-cigarettes and alcohol accompany meals --what a tradition). So I took a little time and decided ultimately go with mainly what the place was for - BBQ. NOW THE FOOD- I'd say that is a definite 4.5 solid for me - VERY GOOD AND SUPER AUTHENTIC - solid Northern Chinese skewers - I recommend the lamb skewer (yang ro), beef skewer (nuur ro), chicken wing (jichi), squid skewer (wuzei) and of course traditional homestyle chives-stuffed pancake (jiou chai he ji). I wasn't sure as this was my first time I wasn't sure how big the portions are so I also ordered what is a "guozi" or fried egg pancake roll just-in-case. To my surprise everything was actually super well grilled - smokey - flavorful . The beef was cooked well and the skewers has a good balance of fat-to-lean meat content, for $5 pricepoint for 2x skewers, not a bad deal at all. The lamb was also super flavorful, not gamey (which is plus) and was juicy not dry. All good and the chicken wings skewer of 2x wings was also grilled semi-crispy with some seasoned spices (love the flavor and aroma). The squid was also marinated well in a sweet glaze before and was not overly cooked so it had texture/not too dry. Now onto the chives pancake and gouzi/fried egg pancake roll. Both were homemade and they were decent. Chives stuffed pancake had a decent texture and for 2x pcs not bad. The guozi was stuffed with some sausages/hotdog and pretty decent for a side dish-sweet sauce was good with the bbq. NOW THE AMBIANCE-ultimately a 4/5 because it was nice, it was clean, but the way they served the food was really lowkey as the plate was nonexistent they simply give you a tray at each table. Sorta interesting. But the utensils and everything was clean so thats good. THE SERVICE - now this is anywhere around 4/5 I would say the owner. Was nice and friendly but really - you might wanna communicate in Putonghua/Mandarin like I did - I mean you could use English as there electronic smart phone menu is in English and Chinese - but to talk to them effectively - I'm glad my Chinese linguistics sorta came in handy. Ultimately very down to earth people - when I asked for water and napkins they were very helpful and accommodating. Ultimately - the is a good place. Definitely worth to visit time and again.

The hummus was creamy, the chicken shawarma was flavorful, and the bread was so good I briefly considered putting it in my pocket for later. The Adana kebab had enough spice to remind me that I still have functioning taste buds, while the lahmacun was essentially Turkish pizza, but which raises the obvious question: Why haven't we been doing this all along? So far, so good. My stomach was optimistic. Then things became a little less heroic. Some dishes seemed to have been prepared by completely different kitchens that weren't on speaking terms. The mixed grill arrived looking like it was preparing to support me through the apocalypse. There was so much food that I started making strategic decisions about which items I would eat now and which ones I would leave behind for my imaginary second stomach. A few dishes were excellent; others were more "perfectly acceptable, but let's not get carried away." The atmosphere is pleasant, the menu has plenty of choices, and there are enough good dishes to make me want to return. "Great hole-in-the-wall Mexican near SFO airport"…read more Came here for dinner at 6pm on a Monday night, based on good Yelp reviews. The place is unassuming-- has a thin stretch of outdoor seating and a handful of tables inside. Not super bright in lighting, and a TV inside was showing a baseball game. Seemed like a lot of the business was takeout, as people would come, hover, get food, and leave. I was GOING to order the fish tacos or a fish quesadilla, but I was swayed by the picture of a breaded fish plate special. My son got the carne asada quesadilla, and others at the table got a veggie burrito and a chicken bowl. Food came out pretty quick-- maybe around or just over 10 minutes (the fish plate and veggie burrito came out slightly after the other two). I was very impressed that the fish plate looked even BETTER than the photo (see photos of both). The fish was HUGE. There was a generous helping of guacamole, lots of fresh avocado slides, some onion and cabbage, etc. There was a nice bed of lettuce on the side with sour cream over it, and the rice & beans (covered with a thin layer of cheese) on another side. The fish plate was just delicious. The batter wasn't overpowering or too heavy, and the fish was excellent inside (and very flat). I really liked the sauce in a little cup on the fish, or having it with avocado or guacamole, or even straight. The rice and beans were yummy too. Such a great dish, and it was under $20 before tax and tip. My dining companions all liked their food, though my son said the carne asada meat was "just good" (he had a bite of the chicken and said that was better). The person at the register was friendly. And as mentioned, the prices were very reasonable. I'd happily eat here again if in the area. Great portion size, great quality, good value, etc. Enjoy!
