I was curious about this place when it first opened, especially because it was popular. There was always a line or group waiting to get in. I knew that I would eventually try it. Over the past several months I've ordered takeout a few times. I was a little surprised at how long it took. On average about 20-25 minutes from the time I called to the time it was ready. Bb.q chicken is a popular chain Korean fried chicken joint located inside a strip mall in San Bruno. Inside, you find a number of seats available for sitting if you choose. You pick your chicken, whether with bone or boneless, and your choice of sauce with of course has a Korean bent, such as Gangnam, spicy Galbi, cheese, honey garlic, etc. We tried the soy garlic chicken today. Overall, the chickens were on the smaller size compared to some other Korean fried chicken places. The chicken was crunchy indeed like Korean fried chicken should be but I didn't find the chicken stand out from others. The chickens were kind of dry inside. The sauce was decent. I actually wanted to eat in store but the bathroom smell was so strong that I decided at home was better. The store smells almost unsanitary to eat at. The service was okay. While the location itself is tiny, the menu is enormous and every flavor packs a huge punch. The restaurant is pretty small for dine in. It felt a little unwelcoming when you walked in since the greeter is in the middle of the restaurant and so you walk in the door and don't know what to do since you only see empty tables and no one greets you because they don't even see or know you walked in? After ordering at the counter, you get your own water, plate and utensils. Basically paying gratuity to serve yourself. We were served the kim chee fried and ttokbokki after 20 minutes of order but the two orders of wings came another 20 or 25 minutes afterwards! Would have been nice to eat the wings with the sides? They were very busy with online or to go orders. Never really had service as we sat in dine-in. Overall the food was good. I was SO excited to see a bb.q in the Bay Area.. I've had it in LA and even in Korea and it was always amazing. Sadly, this San Bruno location was... a chicken-flavored disappointment. My girlfriend and I came here after work, starving. Right off the bat, the guy at the counter was already acting weird. We ordered and asked for two bottled waters and he kept insisting there was "house water" on the side. Like... okay? Do we look like we don't drink bottled water? Weird flex, but whatever. Then the ketchup saga began. We got fries with our chicken, but only got 5 tiny ketchup packets. We finished those immediately, asked for more and he reluctantly handed me just 4 more. Finished those too (hello, the fries weren't small) and my girlfriend went up to ask this time. His answer? "We don't have any more." Sir. I literally saw you grab them from the bowl 30 seconds ago. Don't play ketchup games with me. At this point we were already annoyed but when the chicken finally came out, we decided to just pack it up and eat at home. The restaurant itself is pretty small, just a few tables for dine-in. The chicken was moist and crispy but not quite flavorful enough. My go-to order is the Honey Garlic boneless. It's the perfect balance of sweet and savory, and the crispness is what makes you want to keep eating! Don't skip out on the tteokbbokki either. Placed an order for half and half (original and secret sauce, flavor was fine) takeout Sunday evening. The ambiance is just a regular franchise store with outdated looking booths and tables. We came in store to place the order, it took 30 minutes for the food to be ready. We got home and found out that the order was incorrect. I called the store right away and a female employee offered two options: to have our order remade or a refund. Didn't want to go back to the store, nor did we want more chicken; we opted for a refund. She asked for the order number and the name of the order. She told me she processed a refund and that we should expect a refund in 1-3 days as it takes time for the system to process. As we didn't finish the chicken the same day, I warmed some up the next day. I could taste the unpleasant taste of oil that ruined the chicken flavor. I simply didn't want to eat it anymore. However, if you don't have sharp tastebuds you may not taste it. It tasted like seed oils that had been sitting, reused for too long, although common for the industry. I ended up speaking to different employees on the phone to check-in about the status of refund also on Friday and Saturday which I kept being told they would talk to their manager. I missed one return call of Friday which they could have messaged me or left a message. So I called back on Saturday and was told by an employee the manager said that I needed to call DoorDash. I got around to calling DoorDash support on Monday morning. I was told that once three days has passed from the order date, that it's the responsibility of the store, not the customer to call DoorDash merchant services to process the refund. After that, DoorDash will void the order, and the merchant needs to follow up in their DoorDash platform to complete and approve the refund. I called the store on Monday after opening time at different intervals and the phone wasn't being picked up. Instead I went in person and told the employee the issue. She called her manager to relay the message that DoorDash support stated that he needs to call them. Instead the manager kept telling the employee I need to call DoorDash. The employee's manager even claimed he couldn't do anything about the refund because it's passed three days. Because it was getting no where, I called DoorDash support again and had them explain to the employee what I already told her. She then called her manager again, and after 45 minutes of the manager arguing and refusing to call DoorDash he finally agreed to call them. He asked for some personal info to search the order, but told me he didn't have a pen and paper and asked me to text him via his employee's phone. Like just open a note on your phone? He even tried to blame me and say that I should have called DoorDash right away after the initial Sunday phone call where I complained about the wrong order. No, your employee on the phone told me she had taken care of it. Manager told me it would take him 1-2 days to take care of the matter and another 1-3 days for DoorDash system to process the refund. All this to say, the lack of follow up and follow through from the employees and store manager, I shouldn't have to keep asking them what the status is and what's happening. His actions gave the impression that he viewed this task as an inconvenience and kept pushing back in various ways, till he realized I wasn't going to let it go. If the manager had dealt with the problem right away once notified by staff and took the lead to contact DoorDash things would have been simple. Only took eleven days after my order to finally get the refund. The main part of the food industry entails customer service. read more

The wings are crispy, right amount of spice, moist, and still hot when I get the food home. I also tried their Rose' Ddeok-Bokki and LOVE IT! The sweet potato fries are pretty good too. It's only 4 stars because there's no half star option, otherwise it's a solid 4.5 stars. It's not a 5 star because the amount of Pickled Radish they give you is not enough for your order size of wings so I also buy extra and occasionally I've had to wait an extra ~10-15 minutes when they said it would be ready at a certain time. This is an updated review of bb.q Chicken San Bruno location. My first visit and review of the location was in Nov 2024. I have only frequented this location maybe 3x's and wife 3x's separately bringing her friends for their first try. The chicken itself in consistent, but the FRIES are not. bb.q is a franchise and it was my understanding all franchisees were to adhere to corporate guidelines for consistency. I looked into this and my assumption was correct, that all franchisees need to adhere with what corporate hands down. As for the San Bruno location it's apparent they may not be adhering to guidelines regarding the type of fries they should be using. Back when they first opened in Oct/Nov 2024 they were using the correct fries, but somewhere down the road they changed them. When I first noticed the change I mentioned it to whoever was in charge and their response then was they had run out of the coated fries and were using a different type as a substitute. My sister-in-law who frequents the Apple Park location (nearly every two weeks) with us, went to the San Bruno location with her daughter and came back complaining; the fries weren't the same and although the chicken was cooked perfectly, it didn't have sufficient sauce. I said regarding the fries, "really? they told me they were out last week and had to substituted it for another. I would have thought they would have resolved it by the next order." A couple weeks later my wife who can't help talking about how good bb.q chicken is, brought one of her friends to the San Bruno location due to the shorter distance. Naturally my wife was deeply disappointed because the fries are what she bragged about most because they pair so well and really compliment the chicken. Two weeks later I had a craving for bb.q and stopped by the San Bruno location also due to distance and ordered the Lunch Special (my definite go to!!). The chicken was great as ever, but again, the fries were not the same. I asked the person in charge after repeated visits the fries are still not as before. I was then told they were no longer using the coated fries. So, unless corporate gets involved to make a change, I will no longer frequent nor recommend the San Bruno location. It appears to me the franchisee wants to cut back on cost at the expense of the brand image. Hopefully someone at corporate investigates and makes the necessary change. As a customer who has found consistency in Las Vegas, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Hawaii, why not San Bruno? The staff at San Bruno is still very nice and the chicken consistent. I ordered two kinds of wings - the mala and the classic soy garlic. The wings were absolutely torturous as I drove them to their final location. But alas, even after 20 minutes, they were still crispy, relatively warm, and looked amazing! We both really enjoyed the mala which did impart just a little tingle. Great food, everything was crispy and seasoned well. Every piece was juicy even the breast from the half chicken. The mala flavor was my favorite so far, not super spicy but was a little more black pepper forward with the chili flavor coming after. I love bb.q chicken and think it's much better than bonchon! The rosè rice cakes were delicious and very unique. Super cheesy and rice cakes were nice and chewy. I'm so happy that a bb.q chicken opened near us and can't wait to come back to try all of the flavors. Cheeseling is a very interesting flavor, and while I neither love it or hate it, I do respect the uniqueness and think it's a must try for the one time for those adventurous enough. The restaurant as a whole isn't too big, but we have not had trouble finding seating the two times we've been. read more
