    The beet salad.
    Lisa B.

I finally tried Black Pork yesterday for lunch with my friend. The whole experience was wonderful. We had the guacamole with puerco, an Asada taco, a chicken empanada, a black salad and a beet salad. That would've been enough by itself, but I also got a cheeseburger with mashed potatoes. All of the food was fantastic. I also had a latte which was very good as well. The owners, Veronica and Luis, could not have been nicer. I originally wanted to try the spinach salad, but they were short on ingredients. Luis made a tiny spinach salad for me so I could taste it. It had caramelized pears and cranberries, and a delicious dressing. I will let the photos of the food speak for themselves. At the end of the meal, Veronica brought us each empanada. They were banana and dulce de Leche. They were heavenly and a great end to a wonderful meal.

Not what you would expect for the location. I was looking up burgers in Long Beach when I came upon Black Pork. I actually didn't even look at where it was located, and I assumed it was closer to the dtlb area. I wanted to try the burger with the black bun, but there were out of the bread and were currently making some more. Instead, I tried the chicken sandwich, and it was so good. First of all, it's HUGE. And gorgeous. It's truly Instagram worthy. That and the fries in the gold bowl. They really have their presentation down. I wasn't even that hungry, but I ended up eating every last bit of it. Now I want to go back and try something else.

A small neighborhood restaurant with limited space but food packed with flavor! Love their cute restaurant front and decor inside. Ordering is simple and service feels like you're getting a home cooked meal. The wait for food wasn't long but you know that your food is being cooked fresh since you kinda have an open view of the kitchen. I always gravitate towards chilaquiles when available on the menu, especially empanadas and tacos. Everything we ordered had good flavor and by the end of our meal, we were pretty stuffed. Give this spot a try!

Fantastic food and excellent service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. We'll definitely be back!

This was my first time at Black Pork (I've been wanting to go for a while) and finally got to try them out during Long Beach Food Scene Week. They had an affordable three course meal that really gives you the chance to experience their food & service. If you've never been (like me), you order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. I arrived around 5:30 for a later lunch/early dinner and by about 10-15 minutes later all the indoor tables were full. I tried the mango & spice iced tea and fell in love. That's saying something because I usually don't like flavored iced tea but this one doesn't fall into the pitfalls so many do. It wasn't overly sweet and didn't have that fake fruit flavor to it. Whatever the "spice" was also added a nice depth to the flavor. I honestly started googling mango spiced ice tea at my table to see if I could find a recipe to recreate this at home. The mussel starter was quite good. I found them a little overly salted but not to the point where it impinged upon my enjoyment of them. Empanada: The outside was perfectly crisp and bubbly without tasting/feeling oily. I had the chicken and liked both of the sauces with it. Korean BBQ & Mashed Potatoes: So good. The person at the table next to me was complaining to his dining companion that the mashed potatoes weren't smooth but I enjoy a good chunky mashed potato and these were so flavorful. Scoop up a bit with each bite of meat and you have a winning combination. Service was very friendly and quick. Super happy to have finally experienced Black Pork.

The food here was incredible. Great flavor, quality, and presentation while being affordable. We had the beet salad, mussels, pork belly skewers with mashed potatoes, and criollo shrimp. My favorite was the criollo shrimp and beet salad but they were all hits. The establishment is small and casual which is in itself an appeal since you can enjoy a high class meal in flip flops. It's an order at the counter set up but they bring out the food to you. The woman (I believe she is the owner) who took our order was SO patient, helpful, and attentive. She mentioned they make all of their teas and syrups in house so will definitely need to try it out next time I go.

This place is amazing! The food quality is for fining dining, but it's affordable and you don't have to dress up for it since the place is simple and chill. The owner gave us a free dessert, too. Make sure to chat with them! Sometimes they're just hesitant to approach you :) The garlicky mashed potatoes -- chef's kiss

Delicious and savory food! I went in last week for take out and phone ordered 3 empanadas.. to my surprise they gave me 3 extra as Veronica said they had a BOGO deal on empanadas that day. They were all flavorful but my favorite were the pork and papas con chorizo. Then the sauces they give you to go along are just chefs kiss! I previously dined in with my husband during LBFS week and I still haven't gotten over the curry mussels, so tasty and full of flavor! In addition to the BOGO deal on the empanadas Veronica and I had a heartwarming conversation. It felt as I was talking to a comadre I had known for years! Good vibes and delicious food.. what more can you ask for? Can't wait to return. Thank you for your hospitality Vero!

The burger was amazing. Huge portion. Cooked nice and slow. Prime meat. Amazing customer service. Nice indoor and outdoor dining. Defiantly going back and recommending. Hidden gem in LBC

The food is a definite 10/10. This is definitely a hidden gem. The service is very friendly and the husband wife due is amazing. They are very welcoming warm people. The place is a little small but it's definitely an advantage, it will never be too loud or unbearable because people (my self included) can be very loud. All the empanadas are amazing and their green salsa and chimichurri are to die for. The cubano sandwich a reimagined version but it hit the nail on the head. There's nothing on the menu that is not either a 10 or a 9. Can't wait to go back. Been there 3 times already. The clam chowder definitely the best in Cali.

My best friend and weekly lunch buddy was very excited to bring me here for lunch on Wednesday. He raved about the food, particularly the chowder, and the Cuban sandwich. This is not in the best neighborhood in Long Beach. It is not a fancy-pants kind of place. The bar next door was being pressure washed inside and out when we slid by to the front door of Black Pork! The menu was intriguing, the beef sandwich grabbed my attention at once. The gal behind the counter was very nice about explaining the options. The steak sandwich which I had ordered, turned out to be fantastic. The steak was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned perfectly presented and I ate every single bite. The French fries were exceptional! Very crispy, hot fresh seasoned, even crave-able. I am still remembering them 5 days later, they were that good! My friend got the chowder, he let me try it and it was 10 out of 10! So creamy, filled with yummy clams, potatoes, and dreams! You Must get the chowder! He also had the Cuban Sandwich and it was also THE BEST! I could go on but this is our kind of place. Humble, mom and pop turning out awesome delicious food in a clean cozy unassuming venue!

    A SALT MINE

Similar to another review .. I don't get the hype??? Doesn't the cook at least do a taste test before the food is served to customers ????.. or they just don't care just to save money?? I just ate a pound of salt...and I like salt but this was out of control. What a waste of $5O+. This pork thing was sooooo salty and the skin was so chewy loaded with fat instead of meat....and the mash... it was just a pound of salt as well with a hint of potatoes. My husband warned me and threw his entire meal away and I didn't believe him so I served myself and a little portion and it was enough to make me sick ... Why?!?!?!?!

Pork belly skewers with mashed potatoes

Black Pork is a small restaurant that is located on the side of a busy street in West Long Beach. Yelpers brought me here with their photos and reviews flaunting the stellar portions of meat. The value for the meat is pretty fair. For today's visit I had the Guacamole con Puerco ($12.50). The guacamole is nicely balanced with citrus, onions, and serranos. I like that it's topped with pork rinds and thin pork belly. I did have more guac than I could eat with the toppings - I ate my leftovers with my entree. I should have bought some extra tortilla chips for $2.50, but it was not recommended to me as an option. For the main course, I went with their pork belly skewers ($17.50). You can't tell in the pictures, but the pork belly servings are MASSIVE. I chose it with mashed potatoes on the side. The pork is cooked nicely; however, I should have ordered it with rice to balance out the fattiness of the pork. I purchased a side of rice and brought my leftovers home to eat it this way for lunch. I didn't see their specials listed inside the restaurant, but I saw another patron eating a huge steak. When I looked at their website, I saw it listed online as a special. Their steaks look impressively huge, and I would have considered it if I knew that they were serving it. I really like the meats that are offered here. I think sandwiches and apps sound tasty/balanced here and it's probably the best way to eat their delicious meats. I think their entree-sized meats are generous, but I think that they could be better balanced with acid/spice/carbs/herbs to elevate it to a five-star level. I also wish I could have had a beer, but my mexican coke was fine! Other yelpers are correct: it's not the best neighborhood and you'll have to find street parking. It's counter service. You order as you enter, and they deliver your plates to your table. You could also order online for pickup orders. The restaurant is small and there are about 5-6 tables and bar seating. Overall, I think that is a small business that's worth supporting! Next time I come by here, I'll probably get some of their sandwiches to go! Their black cheese fried burger certainly looks epic.

Bad picture of great food ... the massive and massively delicious Cubano sandwich.

We had a reservation for six and the hostess greeted us and sat us right away. Our server, Nate, was fantastic. He knew the menu and answered all of our questions. He even explained how some of the drinks were made. Later we found out he was actually one of the bartenders helping out as a server for the night. Which made sense considering how well he knew how the drinks were made. He was attentive and checked on us often to make sure everything was going well. One thing that made him stand out was, he actually conversed with us rather than just asking if we needed anything and then leaving. The Old Fashioned was one of the smoothest and best I've probably ever had. My nephew ordered the Ube Painkiller after Nate described how it was made. I had a sip, and the ube flavor really came through without overpowering the drink and it was perfectly matched with the dark rum, which Nate said came from the Caribbean. The Brussels sprouts had a nice mix of tender and crispy pieces that gave additional texture. The calamari was tender and the pesto style sauce paired real good with it. The Thai curry sea bass was flavorful, flaky, and had the right amount of spice. The cioppino had a rich shellfish flavor in the broth and I appreciated that the tomato base didn't have such an acidic taste. We also shared the tomahawk, which was juicy, cooked perfectly, and had a sprinkle of coarse salt that really brought out the flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was excellent, but Nate's service really made our night special, making us feel right at home.

Happy hour was happening which we took advantage of. It was 4.00 off appetizer, 2.00 off draft wine and beer. Also, they made sure that our little pup was well taken care of as well. Food wise, an order of the poke wrap. Nice chunks of ahi with a scoop of rice, lettuce, avocado and wasabi sauce. It was good but a little messy. As it would be with all of the lettuce wraps. The steamed mussels which is a must. The broth was delicious and served with two nice thick slices of toasted bread. Decent size mussels cooked deliciously in the broth. A must try. Lastly the calamari which was tossed with jalapeños. Both deep fried and quite tasty. Nice crunch to it but not overly cooked. That was also served with two dipping sauce. Everything was delicious. Towards the end of the meal, Melinda noticed that a bug was in my wine which she was very sweet about and made sure to take care of it. The simple little gesture was greatly appreciative. The whole experience was excellent. Everyone was the sweetest and friendliest. Will definitely be back.

Just because of that I would definitely come back. We reserved at the earliest they had open that day (11am) and they were able to hold the spot for half an hour max--it wasn't too crowded yet but already a good amount of people coming in. They also had a shopping event that day so that might also be part of it. When you first walk in, there is a visitor log you sign into and they give you a badge that you return when walking out. THIS PLACE RIGHT HERE!!! All surrounding brunch spots... meet your match…read more This family-owned gem is about to take over the downtown brunch scene. My family and I stopped in on a Saturday around 10 a.m. The place was already packed with a line out the door, but don't let that scare you. The wait moved fast, and the staff ran that dining room like a well-oiled machine while somehow making you feel like you were a guest in their home. You order at the front, grab your number, then impatiently wait for greatness. Right away, the baristas were brewing, shaking, and stirring up some of the best drinks I've had in a long time. Matcha, mochas... Starbucks could NEVER. I ordered the banana strawberry matcha and an iced mocha. While I was at the counter, I obviously had to grab pastries because... self-control wasn't invited. The display alone had me ready to order 14 of 'em. I went with the tiramisu cookie, guava croissant, and strawberry cream croissant. Now for the main event. There were four of us, so naturally we ordered enough food for a small village. Savory pancakes, a bulgogi breakfast burrito with fries, steak and eggs, another breakfast burrito, and the Thai pizza. Yep. We came to eat. While we waited, I took in the atmosphere. The entire place felt warm and inviting. Sunlight poured through the windows, giving it the feeling of eating breakfast on your family's back patio. Just laughter, clinking forks, happy conversations, and those little "mmm" moments happening at every table. That's always a good sign. The Thai pizza hit the table first. Fresh out of the oven and straight to Flavor Town. The crust had to be handmade because there was no way something that good came from a freezer. The basil, sausage, and everything working together made this anything but your average pizza. It was different--in the best way possible. Five minutes later... Gone. Next up were the savory pancakes. At first glance, they looked simple. Then I took a bite. That little stack of fluffy pancakes topped with berry butter didn't even need syrup. THANK YOU for understanding that pancakes don't need to cover an entire plate to be memorable. These were soft, flavorful, perfectly sweet, and somehow disappeared before I could fully appreciate everything else on the plate. Speaking of everything else... The steamed eggs were light and fluffy. The hash browns? Listen... Whatever they're doing to those potatoes back there needs to be studied. They had the perfect golden crunch with this buttery goodness that made me question every hash brown I've ever eaten. Fried in beef tallow? Magic? I don't know. I just know I wanted another order immediately. The bacon deserved its own shoutout too. Fresh, crispy, and full of flavor--not bacon that was cooked at 5 a.m. and has been sitting around waiting for someone's Grand Slam order. This bacon had integrity. Then came the steak and eggs. The steak was tender, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. I had absolutely no interest in sharing. But somehow the potatoes still managed to steal part of the spotlight. Again... Those potatoes. Give me 14 of those babies to go. The breakfast burritos were packed with flavor, but those crispy potatoes inside gave them the texture that took them from good to unforgettable. And that green aioli? Bottle that stuff up. Immediately. This place just gets it. They understand that quality matters. Every ingredient tasted intentional, every dish felt like someone actually cared before it hit the table. Too many restaurants are cutting corners these days, and I will happily support businesses that refuse to compromise. Worth every penny. This is hands down one of the best brunch spots I've been to in a long time, and I already can't wait to come back. Do yourself a favor and go. Just don't blame me when there's a line.

Each was perfect. The sliced/cubed steak had a hint of sweetness and was tender. If you're picky about eggs benedict, you'll appreciate this place. The coconut cream that accompanied the pancakes is addictive. The service was great. Looking forward to returning to try different things on the menu. I bookmarked Lazy Dough as a place to bring friends and family.

And there's no better way to do it than through food. :-) First trip out was to The Pan and I loved it. Arlene, our server, was fantastic. Attentive without being overbearing, super friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about their extensive menu. I got the Lucky's Clucky and it was delicious. I also got to try the lemon dream pancakes and it almost made me regret my choice. The place was packed for good reason. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was lively. Really great vibe in the place. Enjoyed everything from start to finish. Will definitely be back.

There was about a 30 minute wait since they don't take reservations, but it was definitely worth it. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals, and no one had any issues with their food. I ordered the stuffed French toast, and it was absolutely amazing...easily one of the best brunch items I've had in a long time. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back the next time I'm in the area. 10/10 recommend!

I was really impressed with the meat quality as well as the bread. I usually don't get anything fancy on my burger so I tried the standard cheeseburger. This is probably why most people came in with online/phone orders for pickup and got the heck out of there in a hurry. Fries are okay at best but the onion rings are fantastic! I don't recommend the smash style burger because it's smaller and doesn't come with the fixings, but if that's your thing than by all means enjoy. I got the backyard bbq burger and it was very tasty. Not the best I've ever had but it definitely hits the spot and prices are not bad at all here. If I happen to be in the area again I would definitely be down to phone in my order and pickup for takeout to enjoy the tastiness somewhere I feel a little more comfortable. Staff was also very friendly - when they could be seen at least, but it was one cashier/server with two guys in the kitchen and although it's a small hole in the wall place there is still plenty to do if you're understaffed so I'm not even mad about it. Thanks ya'll!
